Laredo, TX. He was born in San
Luis Potosi, Mexico.
He is survived by his children,

(Evangelina) Yguerabide, Irma
B. Gonzalez, Fred (Susana)
Yguerabide; sisters, Tomasa
(Jose) Torres and Rita Hinojosa;
five grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; nine great
great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at

Dr. Roberto Cruz Perez
Our beloved husband, father,
grandfather, and brother, Roberto
Cruz Perez, age 66, of
Austin, passed away on Monday,
Dec. 6, 1999.
Dr. Perez attended Sacred
Heart Parochial School through
the 7th grade in San Beinto and
was an alter boy at St. Benedict’s
Catholic Church in San
Benito from age six until he
served in the military. He attended
St. Anthony’s Seminary
as a seminarian in San Antonio
for one year. He began his college
at St. Edward’s University
in Austin in 1952. He received a
BS in the field of eduation from
Texas A&I University in Kingsville,
TX. in 1959 and accepted
his first position with the
Brownsville ISD. He earned his
Master’s Degree in Eduation
Administration in 1974 from
Southwest Texas State
University and a Ph.D. in
Education Administration in
1981 from the University of
Texas at Austin.
He married his high school
sweetheart, Raquel, on June 24,
1956 in San Benito. Between
1956 and 1971, he and Raquel
became the proud parents, of
nine wonderful children.
Mr. Perez was always teaching,
supporting, entertaining and
serving as a role model for the
young and old. Whether as a
youth group leader, baseball
coach or church leader, he
made a difference in every life
he touched. He served as a
teacher, principal and superintedent
of schools. He was also a
consultant presenting
teacher training programs in the
Laredo School District, Roma
School District and Mathis
School District. Other school
districts in which he served
were Austin, Dallas, Terlingua
and Del Valle. He also served as
President of Del Valle Independent
School District.
Following his work with the
Texas Education Agency, Dr.
Perez moved to the Laredo area
to teach at Texas A&M International
University. Dr. Perez was
devoted to educating teachers
about how to better educate the
children of Texas. He empowered
the people he served by
encouraging and drawing out
the best of each of his students.
All children of Texas, and their
teachers have been blessed by
his contributions, dedication
and devotion. His goals and
dreams will continue in those
who were touched by him and
his marvelous works and devotion
to his wife, family, church
and community.
Dr. Perez was very involved
wiht Austin Interfaith, Dolores
Catholic Church Ministries and
Phi Delta Kappa at the
University of Texas. He was a
member of the Texas Association
of Secondary Principals,
the Knights of Columbus and
Montopolis Community Center
Incorporated. He was Assistant
Professor of Professional Programs
at Texas A&M International
University in Laredo
from 1994 until he was incapacitated
in 1998.
Dr. Perez was preceded in
death by his parents, Felix and
Maria del Pilar Perez, and a
brother, Ramiro Perez.
He is survived by his wife,
Raquel Leal Perez of Austin; his
daughters, Maria P. Lucio and
husband, Alfredo Lucio of Austin,
Maricela F. Treviño of Laredo,
Criselda Katerina Almaraz
and husband, Rodolfo
Alamaraz Jr., of Zapata; sons,
Robert L. Perez Jr., and wife,
Rosie Perez of Houston, Mario
H. Perez, Xavier E. Perez, Jose
O. Perez, David E. Perez and
wife, Irma Perez, all of Austin,
Marco A. Perez and wife, Leesa
Perez of Cleveland; sisters, Lucy
Perez, Mary Perez, Connie
Villarreal, all of Austin, Delfina
Isabell of Alabama, Rosie
Cosgrove of Blanco; brothers,
