Ray Hollida

COMBES — Ray Hollida, 95, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Clute,  Texas. He was born in Wynn, Arkansas on May 17, 1908. Ray was a long time resident of the Valley arriving in the Combes area in the 1920’s. He was active in the business community, church, schools, and civic organizations for many years.

Ray operated the Gulf Station known as Ray’s Service Station from 1929 to 1977. He served as mayor of Combes for several years, took care of the water system before Combes hooked into the Harlingen water system and sold the lots and managed the Combes Cemetery. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Combes, he was a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and superintendent, Training Union director and a trustee of the church. Ray and his wife Cloyce were honored several years ago by the people of Combes after they set a record with 40 years of business on the same corner in Combes.

He will be greatly missed by his two sons, Clarence Ray of Leakey,  Texas and Sam of Seguin,  Texas; daughter, Nita Ganstine of Lake Jackson,  Texas; six grandchildren, Raymond Hollida, Russ Hollida, Dennis Ganstine Jr., Denise Bass, Gregory Ganstine and Carrie Hollida; and five great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Cloyce in January of 2003.

Visitation hours will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at the Combes First Baptist Church, 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2003. Burial will follow at Combes Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rio Grande Children’s Home in Mission, TX or to the First Baptist Church in Combes.

Arcelia Silva Bustillos

WESLACO, TX — Arcelia Silva Bustillos, 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

She was born on September 11, 1912 in San Miguel de Camargo, Tamps., daughter of Matilde Silva and Josefina Villarreal de Silva.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesus Bustillos; and son, Hugo Mario Bustillos.

She is survived by her sons, Eduardo, Jesus, Dennis, Israel Bustillos; daughters, Adela, Arcelia, Elena, Adelina Bustillos; brother, Israel V. Silva; sister, Eliza V. Cavazos; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco on Saturday, June 28, 2003 from 2 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 29, 2003 from 1 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. both days.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2003 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at the Weslaco City Cemetery.

The Bustillos family would like to give a very special Thank You to friends, relatives, Dr. L. M. Volpe and Dr. D. Slavin.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco.

Mike Carlisle

HARLINGEN, TX — Mike Carlisle, 47, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003 at his residence in Palm Valley.

Mike was born in San Benito,  Texas on October 24, 1956. He was a lifetime resident of Harlingen and had recently moved back to Harlingen after living in Austin,  Texas for the past 8 years.

Mike was a graduate of Harlingen High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He also attended the Second Baptist Church in Harlingen.

He is survived by daughter, Tara L. Macias of El Paso,  Texas; granddaughters, Juliana and Jade Macias of El Paso,  Texas; father, Eddie Carlisle, Jr. of Harlingen; brother, Jim Carlisle of Corpus Christi,  Texas; sister, Judy Hooker of New Braunfels,  Texas; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bille Sue Carlisle.

A memorial service will be held at the Second Baptist Church in Harlingen, 7 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2003 with the Rev. Jerry  Johnson officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Santos Maria Arizpe

SAN BENITO, TX — Santos Maria Arizpe, age 78, entered the Lords Kingdom Tuesday evening at her residence. She was born September 23, 1924 to Aurelio and Juana De Leon.

She is survived by her husband, Leonides Arizpe; six children: Lazaro (Ester) Arizpe, Alvaro (Rosa Maria) Arizpe, Juan (Rosalinda) Arizpe, Maria (Isaias) Rodriguez, Alejandra Arizpe all of Harlingen, Elvira (Alberto) Garcia of San Benito; 22 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Candelaria De Leon and Maria De Jesus De Leon; 2 brothers: Preciliano De Leon and Juan De Leon.

Funeral services will be held in Matamoros, Mex., Thursday, June 26, 2003 under the care of Funerales Ramirez.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Trinity Funeral Chapel.

Manuela C. Villarreal

SANTA ROSA, TX — Manuela C. Villarreal, 78, a lifetime resident of Santa Rosa was born on September 6, 1924, and passed away at her home.

Manuela was an avid seamstress and had a fondness for animals, plants and flowers.

She is survived by her loving husband, Pilar Villarreal and five sons, Lupe, Pilar (Maricela), Robert, Sammy and Juan. She is also survived by a daughter, Yolanda (Juan) Barrera; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 26, 2003 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home.

Chapel Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2003 at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home with interment to follow at Combes Cemetery.

Juanita Garcia

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Juanita Juarez Garcia, 68, passed away Friday, June 20, 2003 in California. She was born July 22, 1934 in Raymondville,  Texas to Leonardo and Angelita (Cano) Juarez. She moved to Raymondville from California in 2001.

Funeral service wil be held Wednesday 10 a.m., June 25, 2003 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary will be held today, Tuesday 7 p.m., at Duddlesten Chapel.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dolmiro Garcia of Raymondville; three sons, Bobby and Dolmiro, Jr. Garcia both of Cuca Monga, California and Victor Juarez of California; two daugthers, Imelda Garcia and Perla Garcia both of Cuca Monga, California; four sisters, Olivia J. (Lalo) Fonseca and Celia (Lucio) Garcia both of Raymondville, Ester (Lupe) Garcia of La Villa and Carolina (Manuel) Castillo of Fresno, CA; and one brother, Claudio (Nora) Perez of San Antonio. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Phillip T. Foster

HARLINGEN — Phillip T. Foster, 72, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Phillip was born on July 4, 1930 in Fowler, Kansas to Walter and Olga Foster.

He graduated from Fowler High School in 1949 and was baptized in the Christian Church in Fowler, Kansas on October 4, 1942.

Phillip retired from Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas; and he served in the U S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954.

Phillip is survived by his children; Trisha Anderson of Pampa,  Texas and Phyllis (Tony) Tonnett of Lawrence, Kansas; his brother and sisters, Forres Forest of Wichita, Kansas, Virginia Copple of Meade, Kansas, Dorothy Salisbury of Kankakee, Illinois, Betty Murrell of Salt Lake City, Utah, Beverly Foster of Wichita, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Eugene, and Dean.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Fowler Cemetery in Fowler, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fowler Cemetery in Fowler, Kansas, 67844.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Frank Amell Glispin, Jr.

HARLINGEN — Frank Amell Glispin Jr., 86, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003 in Harlingen. Frank was born in Houston,  Texas on October 6, 1916 to Frank and Pearl Glispin Sr.

Frank was a Veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corp, in World War II and was stationed in North Africa, Italy and other European Countries; he was a member of the Harlingen Elks Lodge #1889, the American Legion Post #205, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2410, the Knights of Columbus, and a longtime member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Frank graduated from Damion High School in Damion,  Texas; after his discharge from the service, Frank returned to Houston,  Texas and worked for Slitz Beer. He moved to Harlingen in the early 1950’s and was the Anheuser Busch beer distributor until his retirement in 1979. Frank enjoyed hunting, traveling, and working in the yard.

Frank is survived by his loving children, Janis Glispin (Clifford) Muir of McAllen, Frank (Beth) Glispin III of Dallas, and Nancy Glispin (Terry) Gray of Harlingen; six grandchildren, Trey Muir of McAllen,  Taylor and Stephen Gray of Harlingen, Christopher, Phillip and Ella Glispin of Dallas.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Jane  Taylor Glipsin; parents Mr. & Mrs. Frank Amell Glispin Sr.; and sister, Mary Louise Hodges.

Visitation hour will be held Sunday, June 22, 2003 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. to receive friends at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park with Father Frank Clancy officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen.

The family would like to thank Janie Ruiz, Dr. Ferris and Dr. O’Donnell for all their kind assistance during Frank’s illness.

Sylvia Flores

BROWNSVILLE, TX — Sylvia Flores, 37, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, TX.

Ms. Flores was a 1985 graduate of Porter High School and continued her education at TSTI in Harlingen. She was currently working at Harlingen Good Samaritan as Human Resource Director. Her hobbies included baking, fishing, reading, attending her nieces’ and nephews’ activities, and attending spiritual retreats.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jose Manuel Flores.

She is survived by her sons Steven Flores and Joel Hinojosa Jr., her mother, Aurora Flores, 2 sisters, Virginia Hamby and Janie Garcia, 3 brothers, Juan Manuel Flores, Reynaldo Flores, and Guadalupe Flores, nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law, Andres Garcia Jr., all of Brownsville, TX.

Visitation was held Friday, June 20, 2003 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. at Buena Vista Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at St. Eugene de Mazenod with Deacon Bruno Cedillo as celebrant. Funeral procession will depart Buena Vista Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m.

Committal service will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Andres Garcia, Jr., Joel Hinojosa, Billy Hamby, Rene Berlanga, Reynaldo Flores, and Delfino Flores, Jr.

Hector E. Casas

SAN BENITO, TX — Hector Edmundo Casas, 79, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Mr. Casas is survived by his wife, Berta T. Casas of San Benito, TX; daughters, Mary Cynthia (Marc) Cerrato of Las Vegas, Nevada, Norma Jeanne Casas of Austin and Linda Sue (Salvador Martinez) Casas of Austin; his son, Hector Anthony (Sonia) Casas of Harlingen; 2 grandchildren, Jose Francisco Casas of Austin and Abraham Martinez of Austin; his brothers, Adolfo Cordova, Sr. of San Benito and Joe Casas of Orange, California; and sisters, Enedelia (Adan) Sanchez of Delware, Ester (Joe) Garcia of Church Falls, Virginia, Olivia Gonzalez of Alice, TX and Juanita Casas of Alice, TX.

Visitation will be held at San Benito Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19, 2003 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito,  Texas.

Luanne Favre

LONGVIEW, TX — Mass of Christian for "Luanne" Favre, 58, of Longview, TX, were held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2003 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Bay St. Louis, MS.

A Rosary was recited at 8 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2003 at Edmund Fahey Funeral Home. Entombment was in Gulf Coast Memorial Mausoleum.

Luanne Favre died Wednesday, May 14, in a Dallas hospital. Mrs. Favre was born February 24, 1945 in Harlingen, TX to Edward O. and Cora Elizabeth Harmon. She was a Register Nurse in labor and delivery at Longview Regional Medical Center. She completed the diploma program in 1967 in Sacramento CA, and received her associates degree. She was an avid reader and had a passion for collecting any thing associated with Precious Moments. Also, she was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, David F. Harmon.

Survivors include her husband, Byron P. Favre of Longview; brother, Jay Harmon of La Veta, CO; step-daughters, Michelle Favre and Marie Wicker; grandson, Dwayne Favre and granddaughter, Amanda Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Raymond Hinman

HARLINGEN, TX — Raymond (Sailor) E. Hinman, 50, Merchant Marine Born Dayton, Ohio on March 12, 1953. He died on Friday, June 6, 2003 at Valley Baptist Hospital.

Surviving from previous marriage, Virginia Murphey; two sons Jeremy (Lynda) Hinman, Jason Hinman; sisters Suzy Manning, Sandy Griesheyer, Sheri Hinman, Sena Dixon and present wife Tenna Felix, wife of 17 years.

Memorial services will be on June 2004 at South Padre Island. Arrangements were under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
