Enrique J. Garcia, Sr.

SAN BENITO — Enrique J. Garcia, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2003 at his residence.

Enrique was born in San Benito, TX. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WW II under the rank of Captain.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lilia; and his son, Enrique Jr., also of San Benito. He is also survived by his sisters, Cristina de Castillo Garcia of Brownsville, Guadalupe Garcia of San Benito; and his brother, Luis Garcia of San Benito; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held on Monday, the 19th, 2003 at the Thomae Funeral Home Chapel at 701 N. Bowie St., San Benito. Funeral services will be at St. Benedict’s Church on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at 10 a.m. followed by the burial at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito under the direction of Thomae Funeral Home, Bowie St., San Benito.

Beverly I. Dusek

HARLINGEN — Beverly I. Dusek, 62, passed away May 17, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Beverly was born September 18, 1940 in Harlingen,  Texas.

Mrs. Dusek is survived by her husband, Frank Dusek of Harlingen; daughter, Ann Massengale of Haslet,  Texas; son-in-law, Alan Massengale of Haslet,  Texas; grandson, Greg Massengale of Haselt,  Texas; granddaughter, Katy Massengale of Haslet,  Texas; mother, Ann Tankersley of Harlingen; sister, Jo Ann Alexander of Austin; and numerous cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Hall officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Maxima M. Davila

SAN BENITO — Maxima M. Davila, 69, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

She was a lifetime resident of San Benito and a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Jose Davila of San Benito; sons, Jose Davila, Jr. of San Benito and Santos Davila of San Benito; daughter, Maria Del Jesus Davila-Mata of Houston; siblings, Maria Guadalupe Casas of San Benito, Camila Ramirez of Denton, Pedro Meza of San Benito, Jovita Alvarez of San Benito, Juanita Perez of Los Angeles, Maggie Meza of San Benito; two grandchildren, Esai Mata and Jose Antonio Davila.

Mrs. Davila was preceded in death by her parents, Santos and Maria Del Refugio Meza; two brothers, Julio and Manuel Meza; one sister, Paula Govea; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 19, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral service will take place at St. Theresa Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2003..

Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Santos Davila, Jose Davila, Pedro Meza, Joel Alvarez, Santiago Rodriguez and Alberto Alvarez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home.

Maurine Savioz Dietz

BAYVIEW, TX — Maurine Savioz Dietz, 88, entered into eternal rest on May 18, 2003 at her residence in Bayview,  Texas.

She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Maurine was born in Villa De Guerrero, Mexico on February 2, 1915. She lived most of her life in Houston,  Texas where she attended our Savior Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years of marriage, Conrad R. Dietz; one daughter, Rev. Dr. Evelyn D. (Edward) Morris of Bayview,  Texas; five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by Lt. Col. Frederic Henri Dietz, U.S. Airforce.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mont Meta/Restlawn/Cox Funeral Home, 2906 S. Expressway 77/83 Harlingen,  Texas 78550.

Funeral service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Harlingen on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 11 a.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at Forest Park Lawndale of Houston,  Texas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Paul Lutheran School, 1920  Washington St. Harlingen,  Texas 78520. (956) 423-3924.

All funeral services are under the direction of Mont Meta/Restlawn/Cox Funeral Home.

Faustino L. Garcia

SAN BENITO, TX — Faustino Leonel Garcia, 20, of San Benito passed away on May 18, 2003.

Mr. Garcia was currently employed with Time Warner Cable Vision, was a resident of San Benito,  Texas for 10 years and graduated from San Benito High School.

He is survived by his son, Ethan Leonel Garcia of San Benito, TX; mother, Rosa Amalia Gonzalez; father, Miguel Gonzalez; 2 sisters, Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, and Amalia Michelle Gonzalez all from San Benito, TX; maternal grandmother, Margarita Mayen of Guatemala; paternal grandparents, Guadalupe and Maria Evangelina Gonzalez of Rio Bravo, Tamps., Mex., and Mr. And Mrs. Faustino Garcia of Guatemala; great grandmother, Ernestina Lopez of Rio Bravo, Tamp., Mex.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Faustino Leonel Garcia; and grandfather, Alberto Mayen.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Tuesday, May 20, 2003, he will depart to Rio Bravo, Tamp., Mexico at 12 noon.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church in Rio Bravo Tamp., Mexico.

Interment will follow to Valles De La Paz Cemetery in Rio Bravo, Tamp., Mexico.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito,  Texas 956-399-1331.

Raymond Scheopner

LA FERIA, TX — Raymond C. Scheopner, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at McAllen Medical Center with his devoted wife and children beside his bed. He was born in Pilot Point,  Texas on March 30, 1926 to John and Mary Scheopner. He joined the Army in March 1944, served in Europe, and fought in the last battle in Germany before V.E. Day. He continued to serve in post-war Germany and was chosen as one of General George Patton’s pallbearers. He was honorably discharged from the Army in July 1947. Raymond moved to the Valley to drive a grain truck for his brother-in-law and met and married Loretta Grotzinger on September 26, 1949. They had 53 very happy years of marriage together and 4 children.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; son, Jim (Sue) Scheopner; daughters, Mary Lorae Scheopner, and Kathy (Mike) Malone all of Harlingen. He has four grandchildren, Leisel (Brad) Koeber of San Antonio, Heidi Scheopner of Harlingen, Kristin and Randy Malone of Kingsville; brother-in-law, Albert Wiesman of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Betty Scheopner of Harlingen. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

His children and grandchildren were a great source of joy and pride to him, and he was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them when they were little and as they grew up. His entire family will miss his laughter, card playing, and garden. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald in August 1954; one brother, Lawrence Scheopner of La Feria; four sisters, Minnie Schon, Laura Schon, Clara Scheopner of Pilot Point, and Caroline Wiesman of Fort Worth.

He farmed for many years in the La Feria area before becoming a La Feria Police Officer and Chief 1967-1974, and owning and operating Ray’s Exxon Service Station 1968-1974. He then became the transportation and Maintenance Supervisor for the La Feria Independent School District, retiring after 17 years.

He had previously driven a school bus for 15 years in La Feia, thus giving 32 years of service to the La Feria Independent School District. Upon retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard, playing casino machines, cards, dominoes, and gardening. He gardened for the world and enjoyed giving away vegetables to his many friends. He belonged to the Holy Name Society at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church until it disbanded and was an usher for over 45 years. The family would like to thank Dr. Galindo and his staff at McAllen Oncology Center for their special treatment.

Visitation hours will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. with father Willie Verboomen officating.

Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria. Pallbearers will be Leon Schon, Harold Schon, Chuck Bauer, R.D. Moore, Bill Farrism, Andy Rodriguez, Manul Briones, Steve Philipp, and Francis Phillipp. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made in his name to the St. Franics Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Carmen Olmos Torres

HARLINGEN, TX — Carmen Olmos Torres, 47, and a lifelong resident of Harlingen entered into rest on May 17, 2003.

Carmen was very active in her children’s sports and schools activities. She was a sponsor and follower of the girls Harlingen South Lady Hawks Basketball Team. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her and loved her.She is preceded in death by her father, Roberto Olmos.

She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Robert Torres; three children, Jennifer Lee Torres (Rudy Gonzalez), Cyndee Torres, and Roberto Trinidad Torres (Robby) all of Harlingen; and one granddaughter, Leanndra Aleisha Correa. She is also survived by her mother, Josefina Olmos of Harlingen; six sisters, Guille Ramon (Mito) of Harlingen, Maggie Rodriguez (Mito) of Harlingen, Delia O. Pesina of Austin, Rosa O. Trevino (Noe) of Harlingen, Ester Cerrillo of Harlingen, and Lisa Olmos of Austin; she is also survived by two brothers, Joe Olmos (Mari) of Harlingen and Robert Olmos of Salinas, CA; a close friend, Harty DeLeon and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held today, May 20, 2003 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church with Deacon Ignacio Gonzalez officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Ramon, Adolfo Ramon, Alex Rios, Eddie Zepeda, Rudy Najar and Rudy Flores. Honorary pallbearer will be Devon Sepeda.

The family wishes to thank the head nurse in charge Mr. Gus Ezubio at VBMC NICU for his care and support and going above and beyond the call of duty during such a difficult time. Arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen,  Texas.

Leonard J. Grinnell

HARLINGEN, TX — Dr. Leonard Jason Grinnell, 101, entered into rest on May 17, 2003 in Harlingen,  Texas.

He is preceded in death by his former wife Vivian McCarter; two daughters, Dawn Arnold and Donna Aver.

He is survived by his current wife, Theresa Grinnell of Harlingen; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Eugene Arnold of St. Louis, MO; one niece and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 003 at 10 a.m. at 1000 Camelot Drive in Harlingen with Rev. Judy Sessions of St. Albans Episcopal Church officiating.

Dr. Grinnell’s wishes were that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Humane Society or the charity of you choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen,  Texas.

Raymond Scheopner

Herbert Teller

HARLINGEN, TX — Herbert Teller, 78, passed away on May 19, 2003 following a long bout with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; his children, Michael Teller, and Barbara Teller; his step-daughters, Nena Bloomqirst and Naima Kradjian; and seven grandchildren, all living in the Northeast.

Mr. Teller, retired to Harlingen after a career in law, both as Attorney and Judge in Miami, Florida.

No local services will be held. Remembrances may be sent to Omega Hospice, in memory of Herbert Teller, 2108 Central Blvd., Brownsville,  Texas 78520.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thomae Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito,  Texas 956-399-1331.
