Roberto Silva

HARLINGEN, TX — Roberto "Popeye" Silva, 74, and a lifelong resident of Harlingen entered into rest on May 20, 2003 in Harlingen,  Texas.

Roberto was born to Silvano Silva and Amada Silva on August 19, 1928. Some of his favorite past times were fishing, watching sports on television and spending time with his family and friends.

He was known for his compassion and sense of humor; he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Silvano and Amada Silva; sister, Angelita Delgado; brother, Reymundo Silva; son-in-law, Victor Manuel Moncivaiz; and great granddaughter, Cierra M. Errickson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Yolanda Silva of Harlingen; six children, Shelly Silva, Mary (Albert) Vasquez, Gracie (Thomas) Sinkey, Ana M. Moncivaiz, Ernesto S. Silva, Roberto (Becky) Silva; one sister, Herlinda Munoz all of Harlingen, 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, May 21, 2003 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. for a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Amado Palomares, Armando Galvan, Jr., Isreal Villarreal, Jr., Daniel Silva, Derick Galvan, and Arturo Gutierrez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Vasquez III, Ernest Silva II, Jacob N. Silva, Ryan V. Moncivaiz, and Johnathan R. Silva.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Ricardo Zartuche, Sr.

HARLINGEN, TX — Ricardo Zartuche, Sr., 67, entered into rest on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Harlingen Medical Center. Mr. Zartuche was a fifty year resident of Harlingen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Antonia De Los Santos Zartuche of Harlingen, TX; sons, Ricardo Zartuche, Jr., of Harlingen, TX, Noe (Becky) Zartuche of Edinburg, TX, Ruben (Dora) Zartuche of Harlingen, TX, Jaime (Cristina) Zartuche of Los Fresnos, TX; daughters, Sylvia Zartuche (Kirby) Carpenter of San Antonio, TX, Diana Zartuche of Harlingen, TX, Cynthia Zartuche of Harlingen, TX, Delia Zartuche (Joseph) Miller of San Antonio, TX; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Cesario Zartuche of Bushnell, IL, Santos Zartuche of Bushnell, IL, Primo Zartuche of Munster, IN, Ramiro DeLeon of Granville, IL; and sister, Dolores Garcia of Granville, IL.

Visitation will be held today and Thursday, May 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Roses with the Holy Rosary to be prayed both nights at 7 p.m.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Friday, May 23, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Mathias Shanley as the Celebrant.

Interment will follow at La Capilla Cemetery in Santa Rosa, TX.

Pallbearers will be Noe Zartuche, Sr., Ruben Zartuche, Sr., Ruben Zartuche, Jr., Jaime Zartuche, Joshua Duran, Noe Zartuche, Jr., Alex J. Garza and George Garcia.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Miller and Kirby Carpenter.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home.

Serapio Costilla

HARLINGEN, TX — Serapio "Lapo" Costilla, age 48, entered the Lords kingdom Monday May 19, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

He was a lifetime resident of Santa Rosa and self-employed trucker.

He is preceeded in death by his mother, Elida; sister, Marcelina; and a brother, Esteban Costilla.

Survivors include wife, Maria Juana Costilla; children, Jacinta Costilla, Milagros Costilla, Margarita Costilla, Betsy Costilla, Serapio Costilla Jr., and Susan Lee Costilla; step-daughters, Maria Alicia Rodriguez and Maria Isabel Castillo; 6 brothers; 1 sister; and 9 grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will be held today, Thursday, May 22, 2003 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow to Guadalupe Cemetery in Sebastian.

Pallbearers will be Jacinto, Serapio Jr. and Damacio Costilla Jr., Leroy and Roy Perez, and Josh Hinojosa.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Serapio Costilla family at P.O. Box 7 Santa Rosa, Tx 78593.

Arrangements will be under the direction of Santa Rosa Funeral Home 201 S. Main Santa Rosa 636-9237.

Angelita Garcia

MISSION, TX — Angelita Farias Garcia of Mission passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2003, at her home at the age of 58. Born to Matias and Mary Farias of Brownsville, her mother, Maria Farias preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Roy Garcia and three children, Roy II, Rosette and husband, David Keith; and granddaughter, Sidra Salinas, and Rosman and wife, Kay Garcia. Also left to cherish her memory are her father,Matias Farias; her brother, Matt Farias; and sisters, Elizabeth (Guevarra) and Evelyn (Ybarra).

Her family and many friends will dearly miss Angelita.

Angie was a devoted wife, loving mother and heart and soul of her family in every way. In work, Angie was a devoted employee of Mission Independent School District at the Administration Office for 30 years, and was a tremendous supporter of her husband, as well as "the girls" she worked with.

The Garcia family will be receiving friends and family at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home at 621 Grifin Parkway in Mission from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2003. Prayer services will begin at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Conway Avenue Baptist Church in Mission. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission.

Maria A. Guzman

LA FERIA, TX — Maria Andrea Guzman, 79, entered into rest on May 20, 2003 in Harlingen,  Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Guzman, Sr., (1981).

She is survived by three children, Paula Rivera (Feliciano), Daniel Guzman, Jr. (Raquel Marie) all of La Feria, and Amos Guzman of Corpus Christi.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rito Esparza; and 3 sisters, Maria Elena Esparza of Reynosa, Margarita Esparza and Trinidad Esparza all of Saltillo, Coahuila.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, May 22, 2003 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 23, 2003 with Visitation to begin at 8:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Rio Hondo Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ramon Esparza officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Guzman, Jr., Amos Guzman, Moises Rivera, Alejandro Rivera, Jose Guzman, and Ruben Contreras. Honorary pallbearers will be George Diego, Juan Gonzalez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Adrian R. Saenz

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Adrian Ricardo Saenz, 25, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2003.

He was born September 21, 1977 in Raymondville,  Texas to Maria Elva Saenz.

He lived in Raymondville all his life and served in the Marines for 4 years from 1998 to May 2002.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m., May 23rd, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. A Rosary will be held Thursday at 7 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

He is survived by his mother, Maria Elva Saenz of Raymondville; two sons, Adrian Richard Saenz of Raymondville and Adrian Ricardo Saenz, II of Camp Lajeune, N.C.; his aunt, Vicky Tagle of San Antonio. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Guadalupe A. Hernandez

LA FERIA, TX — Guadalupe Arturo Hernandez, 57, entered into rest on Monday at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Hernandez was a lifelong resident of La Feria and is survived by his wife, Maria Hernandez; daughters, Vera Hernandez, Sandra Hernandez; sons, Mario Hernandez, Ismael Hernandez and numerous other family members.

In loving memory of Mrs. Hernandez, the family will hold a private interment of cremated remains at a later date.

Lola Jayne McHenry

OCONEE, IL — Jayne McHenry was born April 21, 1900 in Oconee, Illinois.

During World War I she championed women’s suffrage and subsequently became one of the first woman principals in central Illinois. Barred from teaching after marriage, she and her husband Keith made their way to West Allis, WI, where they lived for 35 years. Mrs. McHenry then worked as an instructor and supervisor for the Elmo Roper Public Opinion and Market Research Survey, was a member of the West Allis Woman’s Club, and served on the State Federation Board and the State Board of the Wisconsin Mental Health Association. A devoted mother, she was a strong advocate for parent education.

The McHenrys moved to Harlingen,  Texas in 1972. At 80 she took driver’s education for the first time and received her  Texas license. She was a HOSTS volunteer for 20 years until age 96, tutoring young students in reading. Despite declining memory and increasing frailty, she maintained an irrepressibly positive outlook, with ever growing and deepening faith.

Jayne McHenry passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on April 11, 2003, just ten days shy of her 103rd birthday.

Her husband Keith preceded her in death in August, 1984, as did her son, Keith Jr., in January, 1994.

Survivors are grandson, John with wife; son and two daughters of Raleigh, NC, and grandson, William of Stow, OH; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m., May 24, 2003 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1406 E. Austin, Harlingen,  Texas, 78550 to whom donations of remembrances should be addressed.

Jose Resendez

SAN BENITO, TX — Jose Abel "Pepe" Resendez, 59, of San Benito, TX passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center on May 21, 2003.

Mr. Resendez was a lifetime resident of San Benito, TX and member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include wife, Rufina J. Resendez of San Benito, TX; daughter, Lisa Leal of San Antonio, TX; 3 sons, Jose Camarillo of Harlingen, TX, Ramiro Resendez of San Benito, TX, and Rafael Resendez of San Benito, TX; 5 grandchildren, Vanessa Dominique Resendez, Sea Amors Leal, Lisa Marie Camarillo, Nicole D. Camarillo, and Jose Abel Camarillo Jr.; 2 sisters, Consuelo Domanski of El Ranchito, TX, and Florinda Mares of Harlingen, TX; 7 brothers, Ricardo Resendez, Antonio Resendez, Luciano Resendez, and Rudy Resendez, all from San Benito, TX, Roberto Resendez of Harlingen, TX, Eduardo Resendez of Chicago, IL, and Ramiro Resendez of Columbus, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luciano and Anita J. Resendez.

Pallbearers will be Rudy Resendez, Rafael Resendez, Ramiro Resendez, Joey Camarillo, Sonny Domanski and Victor Martinez.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2003 with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Chapel.

A chapel service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Thomae Garza Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow to San Benito City Cemetery.
