Geraldine J. Polhemus

MERIDEN, CT — Geraldine J. Polhemus, 58, of 80 Hanover St., died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at her residence.

Born in New Haven, CT, July 1, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Geraldine Hoadley LePage.

Before her retirement she had been employed as a corporate secretary with the Adams & Graham Law Firm in  Texas.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Kaye Olivarez of Rockport, TX and Rachel Ament of  Oklahoma; two sons, Jon Bryan Polhemus of Rockport, TX and Patrick Allen Polhemus of California; a sister, Linda LePage of Meriden; three brothers, Richard LePage of Apache Junction, AZ, Ronald LePage of Meriden and Martin Stabler of Lutz, FL; three grandchildren, Steven Olivarez, Nathan Olivarez and Jonathan Olivarez, all of Rockport, TX; and a niece, Laura Brewerton of Cheshire, CT.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.

Aurora G. Garcia

HARLINGEN, TX — Aurora G. Garcia was a housewife all her life. She was born in Kenedy,  Texas on August 23, 1929.

She is survived by her children, Miss Lydia Garcia, Delia (David) Martinez, Elvia (Daniel) Rios, Maria Inez Torres, Dolia (Juan) Esparza, Dalia Vega, Ricardo (Norma) Garcia; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; uncle Jacob D. Salazar; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernardino Garcia on June 15, 1992; her son, Juan Bernardino Garcia on November 3, 1999.

Visitation wil be held Thursday, July 10, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria,  Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Garcia, Lupe Garcia, Martin Garcia, Tony Lerma, Daniel Rios, Juan Esparza.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mont Meta Restlawn Cox Funeral Home, 2906 S. Expressway 77/83 Harlingen,  Texas 78550.

Soledad E. Velasquez

HARLINGEN, TX — Soledad E. Velasquez, 63, entered into rest on Monday at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Velasquez was a 43 year resident of Harlingen and is preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Teodora Delgado Elizarraraz and her son Cruz Velasquez, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years Cruz P. Velasquez of Harlingen, TX; sisters, Consuelo E. Perez of CA, Juanita Elizarraraz of MX; brother, Alfonso Elizarraraz of Harlingen; sons, Pete (Hilda) Velasquez, Martin Velasquez and David (Cindy) Velasquez all of Harlingen; daughters, Janie (Robert) Velasquez of Harlingen, Mary (Rene) Sanchez of La Feria, TX, Rosie (Orlando) Casanova of Harlingen, Ada Canales of Harlingen and Sandy V. Puga of Combes, TX. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home, today, Thursday, July 10, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria, TX.

Pallbearers will be Pete Velasquez, Martin Velasquez, David Velasquez, Michael Lee Velasquez, Martin Velasquez, Rene Sanchez and Christopher Rene Sanchez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Oliver Bergschneider

HARLINGEN, TX — Oliver H. Bergschneider, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in Harlingen,  Texas. He was born on June 8, 1915 in Levasy, Missouri.

Oliver married Zola Barksdale in 1938 and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in October. He had been a member of the Buckner, Missouri Masonic Lodge #581 for over 53 years, a member of the American Legion Post #499 in Blue Springs, MO and a member of the United Church of Chirst in Levasy, MO.

He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1980 after a long career as a Safety Engineer for Farmers Insurance Group and then he and his wife moved permanently to Harlingen in 1994.

He leaves his wife Zola; two children, daughter, Karen Crow and her husband, Allen of Rockwall,  Texas; and son, Ron Bergschneider and his wife, Donna of Levasy, MO; three grandchildren, their spouses and children, Scott (Dawn), Brooke and Brenna Flucke of Wichita, KS, Robin (Sean), Sean Michael and Ryan Sales of Grain Valley, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and older brother, and a younger sister.

There will be no local services.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Memory of Oliver H. Bergschneider, payable to the Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Memorial Fund, Levasy, MO 64066.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Eduardo Cantu

MERCEDES, TX — Eduardo Cantu, 81, passed away Friday at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was Born December 18, 1921.

Mr. Cantu had been a longtime Mercedes resident where he worked as a shoe maker for numerous years, he had last resided in Donna.

Mr. Cantu is survived by his wife, Estela Cantu; three sons, Francisco (Josie) Cantu of Weslaco, Edward, Jr. (Ofelia) of Edcouch-Elsa, Oscar (Josie) Cantu of Mercedes; five daughters, Elva Cantu, Alicia Sauceda, Olga (Alfredo) Vela, Alma (Ruben) Garcia and Lupe (Rene) Hernandez all of Mercedes; his mother, Manuela Martinez Cantu of Mercedes; three brothers, Silverio Cantu, Jose (Oralia) Cantu both of Mercedes, Ruben (Olga) Cantu of Edna, TX; five sisters, Jesusa Rodriguez of Monterrey NL Mexico, Antonia Medina, Yolanda (Jesus) Noriega, Maria (Guadalupe) Garcia, Hilda (Guillermo) Andaverde all of Mercedes; also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Pete Gonzalez III, Bobby Cantu, Lee Roy Cantu, Steven Garcia, Juan Chavez, David Cantu, Ramiro Sauceda, Edward Cantu III; and honorary pallbearers will be all of Mr. Cantu’s Grandchildren.

Visitation will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes with Deacon Roberto Cantu as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Manuel Mondragon

HARLINGEN, TX — Manuel Garcia Mondragon, (Ret. T/Sgt. USAF), 69, was born on August 20, 1933 in Corpus Christi, TX. He left us to be with our Lord on July 9, 2003, after complications suffered at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, TX.

Mr. Mondragon proudly served in the USAF and retired after 23 years of service. After his retirement, he moved his family to Harlingen, where he worked as a pressman for different companies in Harlingen.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lorenzo and Belia Mondragon; step-father, Antonio Mondragon; brother, David "Willie" Mondragon in 1965 and his first wife, Adella Mondragon.

Surviving him is his second wife, Oralia R. Mondragon; his three children, Geneva, Manuel Jr., and Theresa. The lights of his life, his six grandchildren, A.J., Jesse, John-Michael, Joshua, Joey, Erika Lynn and baby Emma Nicole born nine days before his death; and stepchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers, Lorenzo (Margarite) Mondragon of Venezuela, Ruben (Lupita) Mondragon of Corpus Christi, TX, Richard (Cruz) Mondragon of Plano, TX; three sisters, Elvira Mondragon of Corpus Christi, TX, Alicia (George) Melendez of Corpus Christi, TX, Gloria (Pete) Pina of Kingsville, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held today, Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with a prayer service to be held both nights at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park Cemetery in San Benito with military graveside services under the auspices of the American Legion Post 205 and V.F.W. Post 2410 officiating.

Pallbearers will be Manuel Mondragon, Jr., Richard Hurtado, Raul Moore, Sam Moore, David Chairez, Mark Chairez, Daniel Cavazos, Jr. and Joel Cavazos.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Margarito Zuniga

LOS INDIOS, TX — Margarito Zuniga, 62, passed away at La Hacienda Nursing Center on July 11, 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Cruz Zuniga of Los Indios, TX; 3 sons, Jesus (Raquel) Zuniga, Jose Zuniga and German Zuniga of Los Indios, TX; 5 daughters, Maria (Gerardo) Hernandez of Los Indios, TX, Sonia (Rudy Sotelo) Zuniga of Lyford, TX, Irma (Reynaldo) Garcia, of Los Fresnos, TX, Veronica Zuniga of Los Indios, TX and Lucinda Zuniga of Los Indios, TX; 11 grandchildren; 5 grandsons and 6 granddaughters; 3 brothers, Emilio Zuniga, Benito Zuniga, and Ruben Zuniga; 3 sisters, Esperanza Trevino, Fidencia Chapa and Guadalupe Rodriguez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melchor Zuniga and Rafaela Cerda Zuniga; and brother, Gilberto Zuniga.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003 with a Rosary starting at 7 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2003 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church. Intement will follow to Gomez Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito,  Texas. 956-399-1331.

Juan Manuel Vallejo

LAKE JACKSON, TX — Juan Manuel Vallejo 76, entered the Lord’s Kingdom July 10, 2003 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. He was born May 17, 1927 in Mercedes, TX to Ladislao and Victoria Vallejo.

He is survived by five children: Amador Vallejo of Mexico, Leobardo Vallejo of Florida, Benito Vallejo of Clute, TX, Mario (Blanca) Vallejo of Lake Jackson, TX and Maria Garcia of Clute, TX; five grandchildren: Nancy L. (Mario) Campos, Juan Manuel (Liz) Lara, Daniella Cerda, Sammy Garcia, Jose Luis Garcia; step-grandchildren: Benito Rios, Gabriel Gonzalez all of Clute, TX and Jose A. Gonzalez of  Washington D.C.; three great-grandchildren: Nereida Campos, Yesenia Munoz and Juan Manuel Lara Jr.; two sisters: Maria Lerma and Benita Lopez of Harlingen.

Visitations were held Friday, July 11, 2003 with prayer services conducted at 7 p.m. Chapel Services will be held Saturday July 12, 2003 at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow to Heavenly Grace Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel, 1217 S. F Street, Harlingen,  Texas 78550.

Salatil Pruneda

HARLINGEN, TX — Salatil Pruneda, 62, was called home to the Lord’s Kingdom July 9, 2003 at his residence.

He was born August 24, 1940 in China, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Crespin and Adelina Pruneda.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosaelia Pruneda; a son, Jose Salatil (Constantina) Pruneda; two brothers, Hermenegildo and Guadalupe Pruneda; four sisters, Criselda Cantu, Irma Rivas, Teresa Farias and Ofelia Coy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial Services were held in Ejidio Salicenia, Tamps., Mexico, July 11, 2003.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel, 1217 South F Street, Harlingen,  Texas 78550.

Dorothy Beatrice Weber Kloepping

HARLINGEN — Dorothy Beatrice Weber Kloepping, 72, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2003 at her residence in Harlingen.

She was born December 19, 1930 in Rangerville,  Texas.

Dorothy graduated from San Benito High School in 1949. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen since 1949, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She belonged to the St. Paul Ladies Aid, held many offices and was active with the Evangelism Committee.

She belonged to the Rio Grande Valley Quilt Club and Valley Arts and Craft. She worked on the Board of Directors of Community Concerts also at one time.

She was employed at the La Feria Co-op Gin as a bookkeeper for many years until her retirement on December 31, 1992.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Robert of 53 years; son and wife, Gary and Cass Kloepping of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; daughter and her husband, Debra and Mike Rickert of Napa, Idaho; granddaughter, Denise Rickert of Anchorage, Alaska; grandsons, Michael Rickert of Denver, CO, and Zachary Kloepping of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; two sisters, Betty Schindler of Harlingen and Elizabeth Mehler of Waco, TX; two brothers, Donald Weber and wife Allene of Clovis, CA and Laurance Weber and wife Shirley of Harlingen; sister-in-law Dorothy  Johnson and husband, Earl of Santa Rosa, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Emma Weber, sister, Lucille Weber and brothers, Clarence and Edward Weber.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen, 10 a.m. Monday July 14, 2003 with Rev. Bill Reagan officiating.

Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Allan Johnson, Keith Kloepping, Wayne Swanson, Ken Markwardt, David Hensz, and Frank Hale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran School in Harlingen.

The family would like to express their thanks to Sandi Jo Funk Hospice, Dr. John Ferris and staff for their concern and care.

Also a special thanks to Gloria, Tammy, and Mary for their loving care, help, and patience with Dorothy.

Arrangements are under the care of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
