Reverend Msgr. Lucian R. Brasley
Reverend Msgr. Lucian Roger Brasley was called by the Eternal Shepherd to his permanent home on Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 in San Antonio.
He was born on June 14, 1928 in Pembroke, New Hampshire.
Monsignor Brasley was ordained on March 17, 1956 in Manchester, New Hampshire by The Most Reverend Matthew Brady. If one would like to outline Monsignor Brasley’s accomplishment it would be a long list. His professional and personal accomplishments are numerous but his highest joy and pride was the priesthood.
After serving as a Navy chaplain, Msgr. Brasley retired to the Diocese of Corpus Christi in which he held numerous assignments with the latest, Vicar General for the Western Vicariate, pastor of St. Peter and of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Laredo.
Msgr. Brasley is survived by his father, Philip Brasley (deceased); mother, Blanche Brasley (deceased); brothers and sisters, Irene Daneault (deceased), Rene Brasley, Dora Martel, Rita Hamel, Leo Brasley (deceased), Constance Towle, William Brasley, Jeanne Dow, Donald Brasley (deceased), Gerard Brasley, Roland and Helen Cote. May the Good Shepherd who called him to be his priest give him eternal rest.
A rosary will be recited on Sunday evening, Dec. 19, 1999 at 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2219 Galveston.
Visitation will commence at 6:30 p.m.
Visitation will be held on Monday morning, Dec. 20, 1999 at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2219 Galveston, with a holy Mass to be held at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be at Mount Calvary Mausoleum in Manchester, NH at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Monsignor Brasley’s name to the Blessed Sacrament Education Fund, Blessed Sacrament Church, 2219 Galveston, Laredo,  Texas 78043.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joe  Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez.

Reverend Msgr. Lucian R. Brasley
Reverend Msgr. Lucian R. Brasley, 71, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999.
Visitation was held Monday morning, Dec. 20, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2219 Galveston, with A holy Mass at 11 a.m.
The holy Mass was officiated by Bishop Roberto O. Gonzalez O.F.M. from Corpus Christi,  Texas and Monsignor Stanley A. Sliwiak, Ph.D.
Pallbearers were Rosendo E. Ancira, John Daves, Lt. D. Wendeborn, Javier Medellin, J.O. Gonzalez and Arnoldo Gutierrez.
Internment will be at Mount Calvary Mausoleum in Manchester, N.H. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Monsignor Bradley’s name to the Blessed Sacrament Education Fund, Blessed Sacrament Church, 2219 Galveston, Laredo,  Texas 78043.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joe  Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez.

Nicolasa E. Peña
Nicolasa E. Peña was born on Dec. 6, 1908 and died on Friday, Dec. 3, 1999.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raul Hinojosa Peña on Jan. 11, 1976; her mother, Sebastiana Rosales Estrada, her father, Gabriel Estrada and her daughter, Diana L. Ramirez.
She is survived by her sister, Gregoria Resendez of Laredo; children, Raul (Bette) Peña Jr., of Huntsville, Alabama, Jose G. (Valeria) Peña of Uvalde, Javier (Irma) Peña of Houston, Ricardo R. Peña of Houston, Rosa M. (Ignazio) Vallone, of Laredo, I. Minerva (Jarriel) Koplin of Clarkston, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; five, great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited on Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999 at 7 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held Monday, Dec. 6, 1999 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home, 310 Hillside Road, to Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mass to begin at 9 a.m.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the Catholic Cemetery.

Alfonso Verduzco Jr.
Alfonso Verduzco Jr., 69, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 at his residence.
Funeral procession was held on Wednesday morning, Dec. 1, 1999 departing at 9:40 a.m. from Joe  Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez to the Laredo City Cemetery for a Graveside Service at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers were R. Don Ladner, Joseph R. DesJardin, John Brown, Jerry Castillo, Jorge Villafranca, Hector Mendes, Alex Lara, and Alejandro Cortez.
Honorary pallbearers were J. Jorge Verduzco, Jose Pepe Gonzalez, Alfonso Fernandez III and Alfonso A. Tijerina.
Arrangements were under the direction of Joe  Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez.

Jesus Jose Luis Lancon Sr.
Jesus Jose Luis Lancon Sr., 60, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999.
Visitation was held and a rosary was recited on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999 in the Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave.
Funeral services will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999 from the Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels.
Holy Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church.
Interment will then follow in the Laredo City Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave., Laredo, (956) 723-2979.

Israel Mora Jr.
Israel Mora Jr., 27, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999 in Oilton,  Texas.
Israel was a devoted father and husband. He will be remembered as always trying his hardest to reach his goal in life.
He would always try to give as much of himself and place his wife and children first. Israel had a smile for everyone in any situation. Since he was close to God, Israel was a great man of God. He would always give himself to serve the Lord, regardless of the situation or moment.
His family will also remember him as a loving brother, a good listener and advisor.
Fellow worshipers knew he was available at any time. He would always bring humor and laughter due to his spirit. He may no longer be with us but we will have him in our hearts forever.
His spiritual love will live in our heart and home and will be with us wherever we are. Israel will be greatly missed by his family and friends whom he touched so dearly.
Israel was preceded in death by his brother, Israel Mora.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 10 years of marriage, Jessica Mora; his children, Tiffany Denise Mora, Joshua Israel Mora and Jireh Nicole Mora, all of Laredo; he is also survived by his parents, Israel and Virginia Mora; brothers and sisters, Nora Hilda (Antonio) Romero, Ana Virgina (Juan Jose) Hernandez, Maria del Carmen Mora, Maria Reyes (Juan) Martinez, Alma Delia (Oscar) Gonzalez, Veronica (Jose Angel) Rosas, Claudia Antonia (Jose Luis) Barrera and Ricardo Mora; his father and mother-in-law, Carlos and Alicia Mata; his brothers-in-law, Carlos (Diana) Mata Jr., Gabriel (Gabriela) Mata, Armando (Analia) Mata and Joel Mata; sisters-in-law, DeAnna (Eugenio) Armendariz and Sara Alicia Mata; also by his nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him greatly.
A prayer services will be recited on Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999 at 7 p.m. at Joe  Jackson Heights Funeral Chapel, 719 Loring at Cortez.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 10 p.m.
A Chapel service will be held on Friday morning, Dec. 3, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Joe  Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez. Funeral procession will follw to the family’s plot.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joe  Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez.

Ruben H. Cortez
Ruben H. Cortez, 36, passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999 at 8:40 a.m. from the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Holy Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Committal services and interment were held in the Laredo City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Cortez, Norberto Cortez, Rogelio Rodriguez, Roberto Rodriguez, Domingo Cortez Jr., Alejandro Cortez, Gerardo Bautista and Kelly Hamlin.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hernandez Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave., Laredo, (956) 723-2979.

Judson C. Twiss
Judson C. Twiss, 87, passed away Nov. 24, 1999 in Laredo,  Texas. He was born in Laredo.
Judson was a lifelong resident of Laredo. He was owner of El Cañonazo Store in downtown Laredo and also had ranching interests in Webb County.
Judson was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lillian Twiss, who passed away on Nov. 27, 1995.
He is survived by his daughters, Dorothy Lynne Twiss (Charles) Odom of Laredo and JoAnne Moran of San Diego, CA.; grandchildren, Coral Lynne Miller, Afton Elizabeth Miller, both of Laredo and Karen Bergman of San Diego, CA.; nieces, Lucille Earle, Joyce Early, Linda Farias and Nella Saldaña.
Visitation was held Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 at the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services were held Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999 at 9 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, (Guadalupe and McClelland) with Rev. Paul May officiating.
Interment followed in the family plot of the City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Korb, James Ridolfo Sr., James Ridolfo Jr., Hector Mendez, Jim Winch and Maurice C. Holden Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were the Marine Corps League - Laredo Detachment.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, Brad Jackson, Director.

Lucy Lozano
Lucy Lozano, 69, passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999 in Ontario, California.
She was peceded in death by her daughter, Alicia Sanchez.
She is survived by her daughters, Rachel (Jose) Torres of Alta Loma,  Calif., Hortencia (Gregg) Fletcher of Seattle, Wash., Maria Elena Garcia, of San Antonio; son, Pete (Belinda) Lozano of Laredo; brothers, Felipe Quiroz, Juan Quiroz; sisters, Martha Barrajan, Sara Quiroz; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, 1999 at Forest Lawn Chapels in Pomona,  Calif.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999 at 10 a.m.

Virginia D. Saldaña
Virginia D. Saldaña, 92, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999 at a local hospital.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Narcisco Dilley.
Mrs. Saldaña is survived by her husband, Andres Saldaña Sr.; daughters, Maria J. Sepulveda, Olga J. Garza; son, Amador Juarez; sister, Anita Placencia; step-children, Andres Saldaña Jr., Olga S. Saucedo, Malia S. Almeida; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; also, many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999 at Nieto Dickey and Lopez Funeral Home Chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 3, 1999 at 8:45 a.m. from Nieto Dickey and Lopez Funeral Home. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nieto Dickey and Lopez Funeral Directors, 802 Coke.
