Roderick Pierpont

AUSTIN, TX — Roderick McIver Pierpont, 53, of Austin  Texas died Friday, January 16, 2004 at Venice, Florida.

Graveside services will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Summerville, SC, Friday, January 30, 2004 at 2 PM.

Mr. Pierpont was born February 16, 1950 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, a son of Lt. Col. Wilson R. and Suzanne Prioleau Wilbur Pierpont.

Mr. Pierpont was educated in schools in  Texas, Virginia, Orleans France and Mannheim Germany. In 1972 he was graduated from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville,  Texas where he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music Fraternity after which he taught music and was band director in  Texas at schools in Del Valle, San Benito, Austin and Round Rock during which time he took bands to the Cotton Bowl and the Macys’ Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Survivors include his parents of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two brothers, Wilson R., Jr. and wife Peggy of Venice, FL, and Joseph M., his wife Carmen and their son, Hayden of Mt. Pleasant, SC.

He was the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Roderick McIver Wilbur of Charleston, SC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Pierpont of Ware, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 220 Wexford Blvd., Venice, FL 34293, or the Hospice or charity of choice.

Manuel Correa Lara

HARLINGEN, TX — Manuel Correa Lara, 94, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 27, 2004.

He is survived by seven sons, Enrique Lara of Monterrey, Ramiro Lara of Harlingen, Rafael Lara of Florida, Conrad Marcos Lara of California, George Lara, Pedro Lara and Francisco Lara all of Harlingen; four daughters, Maria Ayala of Austin, Teresa Trevino of Harlingen, Anastacia Olvera of Houston, and Rosalinda Martinez of Waco; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Lara is preceded in death by his wife, Juana Lara and three sons, Juan Manuel, Mario and Guadalupe Lara.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home. Rev. Pedro Briseno will celebrate Funeral Mass at 2 p.m., on Friday, January 30, 2004, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with interment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Harlingen.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home.

Bobbie Jones

HARLINGEN, TX — Bobbie Fern (Reneau)  Jones was born in Amarillo, TX, January 2, 1927 to Maloy and Gaber Reneau. She went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Rosetta; a brother, Coy Edwin; a sister, Clowa and her husband, Bo Jones.

Bobbie and Bo were married June 1, 1968 and they ultimately spent the last 21 years of their married lives in Tyler, TX. Bo died in May 2001. Bobbie moved to Harlingen, TX in March of 2002 where she resided until her death Sunday evening.

Bobbie spent her youth in Iowa Park, TX where she married and had four children, Dennis (Becky) Mitchell of Harlingen, TX, Linda Mitchell of Pensacola, FL, Michael (Judy) Mitchell of Iowa Park, TX, and Lea Ann (Tom) Olson of Great Falls, VA. To her grandchildren she was known as Nana and she had 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Bobbie was an active member of Southside Baptist Church of Tyler, TX and First Baptist Church in Harlingen, TX. Her love of her entire family and friends was only exceeded by her love and confidence in our Lord. To her credit she made absolutely sure that all of her children met Jesus Christ and that they are now currently in fellowship of our Lord. She was a great Mother, a wonderful mentor and confidant, and a Nana surpassed by none. She will be missed.

Funeral services will be held at the Tyler Memorial Funeral Home in Tyler, TX, 3 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2004, with the Rev. Ron Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Park.

Visitation hours will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Trey Mitchell, Tod Mitchell, Brandon Jones, and Steve Black.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Myrtle Ruth Holbrook

SAN BENITO, TX — Myrtle Ruth Holbrook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on Monday morning, January 26, 2004, in the loving arms of her husband, Robert.

She was born on January 31, 1930, in Kingsville, TX to Emil A. Jesse and Irene B. Jesse.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a brother, Emil R. Jesse, of Kingsville, TX; and a sister, Lorene Fredland, of Plaquimine, LA.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert Holbrook of San Benito; sons, Curtis (Sandy) Holbrook of Carrollton, TX, Hank (Karen) Holbrook of Kerrville, TX, and Richard (Helaine) Holbrook, of Farmersville, TX. She is also survived by sisters, Bertha (James) Alford of San Antonio, TX, Mildred (Charles) George of Baton Rouge, LA, and Emilene (Robert) Rose of Kingsville, TX. She also leaves eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as her faithful and loving sister in Christ, Delores Gilliland; and a close and faithful friend of many years, William (Bill) Ballenger of San Benito.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She served as Sunday school teacher and served on the various church boards. She was active in United Methodist/Women and served several years as church treasurer. In 1997 she was named Outstanding Church Laymen of the Year. She was also an active member of P.E.O. Chapter L.

In close harmony with her church work was being a homemaker for a family of three boys. This led her into Cub Scouting where she served as a Den Mother and helped many young boys find their way into adolescence. These boys grew up and made their way into various fields of endeavor. One of these youngsters is now Rev. Sam Hunnicutt. In 1968 she began working for San Benito Bank & Trust Company. She held many positions in the San Benito Bank and retired in 1995 as a Vice-President. After retirement she became active in community activities, working mainly for the San Benito Food Pantry.

Thomae Funeral Home is in charge of the services and there will be a viewing from 1 p.m to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m .to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2004.

Local services will be at the First United Methodist Church in San Benito on Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Jason Adams officiating with Entombment Services following at Mont Meta Mauseleum.

The family requests that in lieu of floral arrangements that a memorial donation to be made to the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Sam Houston, San Benito.

Funeral services are under the direction of Thomae Funeral Home 701 N. Bowie Street, San Benito,  Texas 399-9992.

Willis Isaac Hudson

PORT ISABEL, TX — Willis Isaac Hudson, 79, passed away Monday morning at Harlingen Medical Center on January 26, 2004.

Mr. Hudson was born in Abilene, TX to Isaac Hudson and Neva Parker Hudson, a graduate of Rose Polytechnic Institute at Terre Haute, Ind., in 1948. Mr. Hudson was a WW II veteran serving in the Army in the 324th infantry. After his marriage in 1948, he returned and was a prolific boat designer.

Survivors include his loving wife – Mackie of 55 years; 1 son, Willis Rex Hudson and daughter-in-law, Connie, of Bayview, TX; 2 daughters, Maria Perlman and son-in-law, Steve, of Koloa Kauai, Hawaii, and Barbara Bell Hudson, Port Isabel, TX; 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Memorial services are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Delta Funeral Directors, 13th. E. Harrison, Brownsville,  Texas. 542-2222.

Virginia Foster

MERCEDES, TX/HUMBOLDT, KS — Virginia Foster, 73, passed away Saturday at Comfort House in McAllen.

She was preceded in death by a son, Chris Allen Foster and is survived by her husband Donald E. Foster of Mercedes; a son, Bruce Dean Foster of Cleburn, TX; a daughter, Gial Lyn Collins of Thayer, Kansas; two brothers, Don Lee of Topeka, Kansas, Dale Lee of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Betty Hardman of Chanuke, Kansas; also surviving are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service held Tuesday, January 26, 2004 at the Encore-Mercedes RV Park in Mercedes at 2 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Robert Leo Smith

HARLINGEN — Robert Leo Smith, 90, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004 at his residence in Harlingen.

Leo was born in Byers, OK on June 27, 1913 to Robert and Minnie Smith. He was a lifetime resident of Harlingen and Rangerville area. He was a graduate of Primera High School in 1931.

Leo was a longtime farmer in the Rangerville area and for 27 years worked as a Canal Rider with the Cameron County Harlingen Water District #1. He also was a member of the 8th and Harrison Street Church of Christ in Harlingen. Leo and Sallie Edith Smith celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 13, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Sallie Edith Smith of Harlingen; sons, Richard and wife, Mae of La Feria, TX, Jerry and wife, Joyce of Abilene, TX, Leslie and wife, Linda of San Diego, CA, Mark and wife, Beverly of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren, Laurel Berryman of Malcolm, NE, Robert Smith of Raymondville, TX, Stacey Smith of Bryan, TX, Sherri Smith of Ft. Meyer, FL, Randy Smith of Abilene, TX, Stanley Smith of Ft. Worth, TX, Elisa Darnell of North Richland Hills, TX, Amanda Stuckey or Kirkland, WA, David Smith, Daniel Smith, and Faith Smith all of Houston, TX; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edith Arnold of Harlingen; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitations hours will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home form 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2004 with Jake Vincent of the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Buffo, Robert Smith, Stacey Smith, Stanley Smith, Jim Wigginton, and David Bridges. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Ferris, Bob Bishop, Leo Wall and Myrlos Waters.

In lieu flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to the Sunny Glen Children’s Home in San Benito, TX.

Virginia Bridges

DONNA — Virginia Bridges, 88, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Edinburg Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.

A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Victoria Palms Ballroom in Donna.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home, 900 W. 4th, Weslaco, TX.

Germaine Walker Reimann

HARLINGEN — Germaine Walker Reimann, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died on Thursday, January 22, 2004 in Harlingen, TX.

She was born on March 4, 1925 in Hornick, Iowa to James Harold Walker and Susie Lovina Parks.

She is survived by her husband, Stan Reimann of Santa Rosa; son, Dennis (Debby) Reimann of Round Mountain; grandson, John of San Antonio; four step-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Diana) Walker of Harlingen; brother-in-law, Bob Reimann of Belvidere, IL; three nieces and a nephew. Also surviving are dear family friends, Angie and Noe Moraida of La Feria and Janet Smith of Houston.

No local services will be held.

In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the Harlingen Humane Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Mauricia Guzman

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Maurice Guzman, 95, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Raymondville, TX.

A rosary will be held Sunday, 7 p.m., at Duddlesten Chapel.

Funeral service will be held Monday, 10 a.m., January 26, 2004, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at El Toro Cemetery.

She is survived by her three sons, Merardo Guzman of Batesville, TX, Leonel Guzman of Lacanor, Wash., and Leonardo Guzman of Raymondville. She is also survived by 28 grandchildfen and numerous great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Walter A. Brisky

BROWNSVILLE, TX — Walter A. Brisky journeyed to his eternal life with God on January 22, 2004, in the presence of his loving wife and family, following a sudden illness.

Brisky was born in Granite City, IL on May 8, 1919. He met his wife, Florence (Rusty) Brisky in San Francisco as they both served in the military service and married in 1945. He moved his family to Brownsville, TX in 1958.

Brisky and his wife owned and operated Brisky Insurance Agency until 1986 when he retired to enjoy their extensive family, fishing, golf, and traveled the country following PGA Tour events and living life to the fullest. Brisky enjoyed all sports his entire life and was quite active to this age of 84. His greatest accomplishments is his legacy of family.

Brisky was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Theresa (Mickus), in 2002; his brother Charlie and sister, Isabel; his father and mother, Jacob and Antoinette Brisky.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rusty Brisky; and nine children, Marie (Corky) Gray, Toni (Bill) Vaclavik, Patti (Bill) Brotherton, Bob (Sun) Brisky, Philip (Lois) Brisky, Barbara (Charlie) Barrera, Linda (Albert) Perez, Bill Brisky and Mike (Judy) Brisky; and son-in-law, Gregg Mickus; seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin today from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. with a chapel service to begin at 2:30 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Sunday, January 25, 2004 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Porter Loring Funeral Home in San Antonio. 2102 North Loop 1604 East at Gold Canyon Dr. (210) 495-8221.

Graveside services will be on Monday, January 26, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Vaclavik, Gregg Nickus, Charlie Barrera, Albert Perez, Kevin Brotherton, Dustin Brisky, Roland Lopez and Gilbert Sandoval.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chuy Castellano, Meme Lopez and George Lopez.
