HARLINGEN, TX — Rolando Iracheta Varela, age 25, entered the Lords Kingdom Saturday, December 13, 2003.

He is survived by by his wife, Yvonne Elizabeth Varela; 4 children, Selena Varela, Priscilla Varela, Kimberly Varela, and Melissa Varela all of Harlingen; his parents, Reymundo and Cayetana Varela of Harlingen; 2 brothers, Reymundo Varela Jr. and Billy Varela; 1 sister, Irma Varela all of Harlingen. Also surviving is his paternal grandmother, Herlinda Garcia Varela.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Albert officiating. Burial will follow to Las Rucias Cemetery under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel at 1217 South F. Street, Harlingen,  Texas.

Ricardo Montemayor

SAN BENITO, TX — Ricardo Montemayor, 76, passed away at Harlingen Medical Center on December 15, 2003.

Mr. Montemayor was retired from United States International Boundary and Water Commission and was a lifetime resident of San Benito,  Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Maria L. Montemayor; sons, Ricardo Montemayor, Jr., of Harlingen, TX and Robert Montemayor, of Houston, TX, Ernesto Montemayor, Javier Montemayor, and Jose Luis Montemayor; daughter, Dora Montemayor all from San Benito, TX; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Olivia Montemayor, of Brownsville, TX, Celeste Rodriguez, of San Benito, TX, and Alma Beltran, of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by son, Isreal Montemayor; parents, Isidro and Angelita Montemayor.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be held 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, December 16, 2003 with a Holy Rosary starting at 7 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will begin 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

Interment will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Thomae Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito,  Texas 956-399-1331.

Jorge Trevino

MERCEDES, TX — Jorge (George) Luis Trevino, 43, passed away December 12, 2003 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph Luis Trevino and Stephen Adrian Trevino both of San Juan; one daughter, Crystal Michelle Trevino of San Juan.

Also surviving are his parents, Eleno Trevino of Nuevo Progreso, Tamps., and Alicia G. Valderas of Mercedes; one brother, Jose Alfredo Trevino of Nuevo Progreso, Tamps.; one sister, Alma (Alfonso) Garza of Weslaco; two grandchildren, Jazlynn and Jazmine Trevino of San Juan; one niece, Analicia Garza; five nephews, Alfonso Garza, Jr., Alex Garza, Jose Alfredo, Jorge, and Jaime Trevino.

Visitation will begin Dec. 16, 2003 from 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Funeral Mass will be said Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Mercedes with burial following at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Adela A. Verdin

WESLACO, TX — Adela Ayala Verdin, 71, passed away to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 13, 2003 at Knapp Medical Center.

She was born October 13, 1932 to Gregorio Ayala (Lino Gonzalez) and Daria Garza Ayala.

She married Marcos G. Verdin on September 23, 1951 in Weslaco at La Santisima Trinidad Methodist Church.

She was employed with Williamson Dickies for 18 years and later with W.I.S.D. for 29 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Marcos G. Verdin.

She is survived by a 1 son, Marcos Verdin Jr. (Norma) of Sebastian, TX; 4 daughters, Maricela V. Garza (Sem) of Santa Rosa, TX, Maria Teresa Castellano (Alfredo) of Kingsville, TX, Rev. Marilanda V. Torres (Joe Frank) of Weslaco and Marena Thelma V. Garza (Elias) of Richland Hills, TX; 1 brother, Gregorio Ayala Jr. of Weslaco; 1 sister, Paula Gorbea of San Jose, CA; also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 12:00 Noon to 9:00 PM, today, December 15, 2003 at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Angles with a 7:00 PM prayer service.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, today, December 16, 2003 at La Santisima Trinidad Methodist Church.

Officiating will be Rev. Pedro Hinojosa W. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Sem Garza, Elias Garza, Alfredo Castellano, Marcos Verdin Jr., Joe Frank Torres and Gregorio Ayala Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ruben O. Garza, Samuel R. Garza, Benjamin Castellano, Gregorio Ayala III, Rene Ayala and Jacob Garza.

Evelyn W. Rosenar

HARLINGEN, TX — Evelyn W. Rosenar, 80, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2003 at her residence in Harlingen.

Evelyn was born on May 15, 1923 in San Antonio,  Texas to R.M. and Lillian Wall.

She was an accomplished accountant and wonderful musician; having won a competition through R.C.A. Music Hall in New York in Classical Piano.

Evelyn was an avid golfer and a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Maurice Rosener of Harlingen; sons, Scott E. Rosener of Harlingen and Kirk W. Rosener of San Antonio; sister, Patsy Rogers of Houston; and one grandchild. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Reverend David Reed officiating.

For those desiring to do so, memorials may be made to the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Maria E. Jimenez

La Feria — Maria E. Jimenez 58, of La Feria entered into rest Saturday, December 13, 2003.

She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Daniel Jimenez of La Feria; sons, Daniel (Ida) Jimenez, Jr. of La Feria and Jose A. (Patricia) Rocha of Santa Rosa; daughters, Adelina Rebecca (Andrew) Funston of North Carolina and Alexis Marie Sanchez of La Feria. She is also survived by her grandsons, Daniel and David Jimenez; father, Pedro Rocha and sister, Maria Elva (Urbano) Rivera of La Feria.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Adelina Rocha and 2 brothers, Guadalupe and Jose A. Rocha.

Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel in La Feria.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2003 departing the chapel at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church with Father Plutarco as Celebrant. Funeral services will conclude at the church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Heart Association 888-433-7654, American Kidney Fund 800-638-8299, or the Diabetes Foundation 800-779-2533.

Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Palms Chapel in La Feria.

Felipe Gonzalez

ANSON, TX — Felipe Gonzalez, 51, died December 11, 2003 in Lubbock. Born August 14, 1952 in Rio Hondo, Felipe was a son of Paula (Perez) Gonzalez and the late Guadalupe Gonzalez. He married Rosalinda Gonzalez, March 12, 1984 in Rio Hondo. Felipe was a farmer and a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalinda Gonzalez of Anson; two sons, Samuel Reyes of San Benito and Felipe Gonzalez Jr. of Anson; four daughters, Martha Gonzalez, Amanda Gonzalez both of Anson and from a previous marriage, Maria Jenetta Gonzalez and Felice Anna Gonzalez both of Dade City, Florida; one daughter-in-law, Maribel Gonzalez; three brothers, Juan (Norma) Gonzalez of Rio Hondo, Felix (Olga) Perez, Jr. of Ohio and Guadalupe (Margarita) Gonzalez of Florida; six sisters, Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez (Judy Kaneff) of Canton, GA, Rafaela (David) Gallegos, Maria Luisa Gonzalez, Oralia (Eddie) Salinas all of Rio Hondo, Juanita (Julian) Gonzalez of Dade City, Florida, and Diana (Alonso) Hernandez of Nacogdoches; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15, 2003 at San Benito Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church with Father Mario Castro officiating at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Las Yescas Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Reyes, Felipe Gonzlaes Jr., Julian Lopez, David Gallegos Sr., Robert Barrientes, Eddie Salinas, Alonso Hernandez, and Juan Jose Gonzalez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito, TX.

Adela Ayala Verdin

Weslaco — Adela Ayala Verdin, 71, passed away to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 13, 2003 at Knapp Medical Center. Roberto M. Candelas, Sr.

SAN BENITO — Roberto M. Candelas, Sr., 93, of San Benito,  Texas entered into the eternal kingdom of Our Lord Jesus Christ on December 13, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

He was a resident of San Benito, TX since 1963 and worked to the age of 76 in farming and ranching industry. He was born June 6, 1910 in Flagstaff, Arizona to Santos and Maria M. Candelas.

He is survived by is wife, Antonia L. Candelas of San Benito; four sons, Roberto Candelas, Jr. of Dallas, TX, Miguel Candelas of Houston, TX, Antonio Candelas and David Candelas both of San Benito, TX; seven daughters, Leticia Garza, Rebecca Carrizales, Norma Leal, Sandra Chapa all of San Benito, TX, Irma Stoner and Mary Leos both of Houston, TX and Yvette Gonzales of Harlingen, TX; 26 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Alfonso De Luna, Rigoberto De Luna, Ramon De Luna, Lionel Carrizales, Gerardo Leal, Aaron Chapa, and Michael Candelas. Honorary Pallbearer will be Adrian Chapa.

Viewing will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2003 and a prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the North Chapel; interment will follow to Mont-Meta Memorial Park of San Benito, TX.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston Blvd., San Benito, TX 78586, 956-399-1331.

Edubijes Galvan

PORT ISABEL — Edubijes Galvan, 81, of Port Isabel passed away on December 11, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Galvan was born on October 17, 1922 in La Tina,  Texas.

Mr. Galvan was a World War II Army Veteran and Honorable Discharge in 1946 from the United States Army. He was a member of Our Lady Star of Sea Church in Port Isabel and life residence of Port Isabel and La Tina,  Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inocencia Galvan and grandson, Eric Galvan.

Mr. Galvan is survived by four sons; Lorenzo (Sylvia) Galvan, Edubijes Galvan Jr., Ramiro (Linda) Galvan, and Roberto Galvan all of Michigan; two daughters, Erlinda (Michael) Henry and Angie Galvan both of Illinois; four brothers, two sister, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Visitations will be held today, Sunday, December 14, 2003 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria in Port Isabel, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Visitations will be held Monday, December 15, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic Church, with funeral services beginning at 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow to Las Yescas Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Lorenzo Galvan Jr., David Galvan, Ricardo Gonzales, Miguel Angel Dominguez, Nativida Galvan Jr., and Fernando Garza.

military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by The American Legion Post 205 and the VFW Post 498 of Harlingen and San Benito, TX.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Home, San Benito,  Texas 956-399-1331.

Esperanza Cavazos Rodriguez

SAN BENITO — Esperanza Cavazos Rodriguez passed away Friday, December 12, 2003. She was born April 24, 1936 in Burgos, Tamaulipas, Mexico and raised in Rio Hondo. She was a lifelong resident of San Benito.

She was a wonderful and unselfish person in every aspect of the words. Her greatest joys were her two sons and her our grandchildren.

We will forever miss her helping a neighbor or friend, her tireless volunteer work at St. Theresa Catholic Church, her sharing of her plants and her carrot cake.

Her passing has left a huge void in the lives of her family and her many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Rogelio; her sons, Jaime (Gloria) Rodriguez and Marcus (Alicia) Rodriguez; her grandchildren, Aaron and Anissa Rodriguez and Adriana and Alejandra Rodriguez.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary (Frank) Maldonado and Gloria (Carlos) Lugo, both of Rio Hondo, Carmela (Julian) Romero of Monterrey, Mexico, and Guadalupe Cavazos of San Antonio, TX.

"Tia Espie" will also be missed by all of her nephew and nieces.

Her pallbearers will be Ramiro Guajardo, Carlos Lugo, Frank Maldonado Jr., Eluid Plata, Rolando Rodriguez, and Timoteo Villafranca.

Visitations will be held Sunday, December 14, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home located on corner of Business 77 and Williams Rd. in San Benito.

Her funeral will be held Monday, December 15, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito, TX.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito, TX.
