Marie H. Wilson

RIO HONDO, TX — Marie Hazel Wilson, 73, passed away on Wednesday morning at a local hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson II in 1986.

She is survived by two sons, James E. Wilson III of Harlingen and John A. Wilson and his wife, Ann of Rio Hondo; three daughters, Linda M. Goad and her husband, Gerald of WI, Ruth A. Reed of WI, and Becky L. Rains and her husband, Lawrence of Harlingen; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation held today from noon till 7 p.m. at the Thomae Funeral Home Chapel 701 N. Bowie St. in San Benito. Graveside services will be held Friday, December 12, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.

Services are under the direction of Thomae Funeral Home, 701 N. Bowie St., San Benito 399-9992.

Roberto I. Saenz

COMBES, TX — Roberto I. Saenz, 42, entered into rest on Monday, December 8, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Roberto was preceded in death by his parents, Cosme Saenz and mother, Norma Saenz.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Saenz of Combes, TX; daughter, Melissa Saenz of La Feria, TX; sons, Cosme Saenz of Korea, Roberto I. Saenz, Jr., Samuel G. Saenz of Harlingen, TX; three brothers, Samuel Garcia of Pearsall, TX, Marvin (Isabel) Saenz of Pleasanton, TX, Rosendo (Delia) Saenz of Weslaco, TX; two sisters, Liviar (Joe) Rodriguez of Dilly, TX, Liliana Saenz of Pearsall, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, December 11, 2003 from 10 AM until 9 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with the Holy rosary to be prayed at 7 PM.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Friday, December 12, 2003 at 9:30 Am for a 10 AM Mass of Christian burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be Cosme Saenz, Rosendo Saenz, Marvin Saenz, Lupe Zavala, Sammy Chacon and Larry Martinez.

Private family interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

T.P. "Jake" Trice

PORT ISABEL, TX — T.P. "Jake" Trice, 85, of Port Isabel,  Texas entered into the eternal Kingdom or our Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, December 8, 2003 at his residence in Port Isabel, TX.

He was born on June 26, 1918 to T.P. Trice, Sr. and Ola Bivins Trice in Atlanta,  Texas. He was a 1936 High School graduate of Atlanta High School in Atlanta, TX. Earned a Bachelor’s Degree from East  Texas State in 1941, and a Master’s Degree in 1946 also from East  Texas State, and married his beautiful wife on August 17, 1946. He was an Educator at Mission High School from 1947-1951, and at Los Fresnos Schools from 1952-1957. He moved to Port Isabel, TX in 1957 and retired from the Port Isabel School District in 1981. Mr. Trice was an avid golfer, and a avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Trice of Port Isabel, TX; son, Paul B. Trice of Port Isabel, TX; sister-in-law, JoAnn Trice of Houston, TX; and his loving dog, Taffy Girl of Port Isabel, TX.

He was preceded in death by parents, T.P. and Ola Trice; sister, Mara Trice; and brother, Frank B. Trice.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2003 at First United Methodist Church, 101 W. Adams St. in Port Isabel, with Reverend Mike McLaughlin officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Madre, 190 Port Rd., Port Isabel,  Texas 78578 or Boys and Girls Club of Harlingen, P.O. Box 1982, Harlingen,  Texas 78551, or the charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston Blvd., San Benito,  Texas. 956-399-1331.

Gladys Nile

WESLACO, TX — Gladys Nile, 103, passed away December 4, 2003 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born to Ralph and Josephine (Chapman) Gilman on May 29, 1900 in Laconia, New Hampshire.

In 1980, she moved to the Valley with her husband, Ralph. She had been a resident of John Knox Village in Weslaco for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ralph in 1994. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Pauline Nile of Montana.

Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, December 10, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Graveside services and interment will be held Monday, December 15, 2003 at 2 p.m., at Mountview Cemetery in Billings, Montana.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.

Raul Serrato

HARLINGEN, TX — Raul Serrato, 44, entered into rest on Friday in Galveston, TX.

Mr. Serrato was a lifelong resident of Harlingen and was preceded in death by his father Agapito Serato, Sr.; and sisters, Inocencia Rodriguez and Mary Martina Valles.

He is survived by his wife, Enedina Serrato; mother, Eduvinges M. Serrato; step-daughters, Yvette and Yvonne Chavez; step-grandson, Matthew Chavez; sisters, Maria De Jesus Espinoza, Ana Serrato; brothers, Francisco (Vicky) Serrato, Israel Serrato, Presciliano Serrato all of Harlingen, TX, Baltazar Serrato of California, Agapito Serrato, Jr. of San Benito, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, December 8, 2003 from 10 AM until 9 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Angels with the Holy rosary prayed at 7 PM.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home today, December 9, 2003 at 9:30 AM for a 10 AM Mass of Christian burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen, TX.

Artrice Day

PORT MANSFIELD, TX —Artrice (Artie) Baker Day, 78, entered into rest on December 4, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center after a short illness. Mrs. Day was originally from Kentucky and a Valley resident since 1978.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Harry Day; one brother, Gerald Baker of Kentucky; three children, Marion Day of Bucharest, Romania, Cyndi Wheeler of Port Mansfield, TX, Harry Day, Jr. of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; six grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

There will no local services for Mrs. Day. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Sandi Jo Funk Hospice Program, P.O. Drawer 2588, Harlingen, TX. 78551

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Paula S. Perez

MERCEDES, TX — Paula Salas Perez, 85, a lifetime resident of Mercedes passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

She was born February 27, 1918 to Rafael Salas and Catarina Tomeseo Salas in San Nicolas, Tamps., Mexico.

She is survived by her loving family, 6 sons, Jesus (Enriqueta) Perez of Mercedes, TX, Miguel (Guadalupe) Perez of Mercedes, TX, Ismael (Josephina) Perez of Fresno, CA, Esiquiel Perez of Mercedes, TX, Raul (Elvia) Perez of Mercedes, TX, Rene (Yolanda) Perez of La Grange, TX; 3 daughters, Maria Ruelas of Mercedes, TX, Emma (Ramon) Vargas, Jr., of Mercedes, TX, and Dalia (Eddie) Howell of Mercedes, TX; 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Teodoro Perez.

Visitation will be today, Thursday, December 4, 2003 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary held at 7 p.m. tonight.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow, Friday, December 5, 2003.

We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will then follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco,  Texas.

Pallbearers will be Roger Perez, Michael Perez, Adrian Vargas, Marc Howell, Ricardo Perez, Miguel Perez, David Perez, Ismael Perez, Jr.

She was a very loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She will be dearly loved and missed by all those who knew her.

Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Mercedes,  Texas.

Forrest W. Ritter

HARLINGEN, TX — Forrest Walter Ritter, 55, passed away Monday, December 1, 2003 at his residence in Harlingen.

Forrest was born in Waxahachie,  Texas on October 6, 1948 to Harley and Ethel Ritter.

Forrest graduated from Victoria High School in 1968 and soon after joined the military.

He served in the US Army for 10 years and the US Navy for 7 ˝ years.

After his discharge from the service he moved to Harlingen in 1985 where he was a truck driver for many years until being disabled.

He is survived by his mother, Ethel Ritter of Harlingen; sister, Bessie Souris of Westhoff, TX; brothers, James Ritter and George Ritter both of Harlingen; grandmother, Hattie Beach Conklin of Battle Creek, MI; nephews and niece, Victoria and Garrett Souris of Westhoff, TX and Gregg Chennault, Jr. of Cuero, TX.

Services and burial will be held at a latter date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio,  Texas.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Ignacio Aguilar, Jr.

SAN BENITO, TX — Ignacio "Chito" Aguilar, Jr., 62, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Harlingen Medical Center.

He was born in Brownsville,  Texas on April 9, 1941 to Ignacio and Senaida Aguilar. He was the grandson of Jesusa Alvarado.

He is survived by one sister, Maria Teresa Guerra; children, Zenaida (Jose) Torres, Sofia Aguilar, Danny Aguilar, Gracie Aguilar, Eddie Aguilar and Ruben Aguilar; 20 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Senaida Aguilar and his grandmother, Jesusa Alvarado.

Visitation will be held at the San Benito Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 2 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2003. Interment will follow to the Harlingen City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito,  Texas.

Leonard Schibi

HARLINGEN, TX — Leonard Schibi, 87, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2003 at his residence in Harlingen. He was born January 8, 1916 in St. Paul, Kansas to Leo and Sophie Schibi.

Leonard had lived in Harlingen since 1982 moving here from McAllen where he was a resident for many years. He was a retired Postal worker with the McAllen Post Office. He was a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen.

He is survived by daughters, Joan Schibi of Lafayette, LA, Barbara Cox of Pasadena, TX and Kay (Gene) Hanvy of Harlingen; son, David (Kerri) Schibi of Harlingen; three grandchildren, Ryan, Cody, and Lance Schibi all of Austin, TX.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Kathrin Schibi on February 29, 2000.

Visitation hours will be held from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a Rosary Service to be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2003 with interment to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Building Fund in Harlingen,  Texas.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Amelia Trevino Doan

SAN BENITO — Amelia Trevino Doan, 92, entered into rest on Friday, November 28, 2003 at Harlingen Medical Center. She was born on March 15, 1911 in Brownsville, TX. She had lived in San Benito for 90 years. Amelia was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church in San Benito, TX, and the United Methodist Women. She was a descendant of the Cavazos family, who were original Spanish land grant holders of South  Texas, Mrs. Doan married Allen Judson Doan in 1929. Mr. Doan had come to the Valley in 1914 at the age of 7. Together they raised one son and four daughters. In addition they are survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is survived by son, Allen Judson Doan Jr.; four daughters, Elizabeth Jean (Elwood) McAdams, Amelia Jeanette (William) Horton, Almina (Wayne) Porter and, Diantha (Lonnie) Gray; 10 grandchildren, Pamela Adams, Charles Owen, Sharon Ganter, Allen Horton, Leah Kadunce,  Taylor Horton, Mary Beth Horton, Michael Porter, Kelli Porter Jarrell, and Kristen McMillon, and 16 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Judson Doan, her mother, Guadalupe Cavazos, and her brother, David Trevino.

Visitations was at the San Benito Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2003. Services will be at the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2003. Officiating will be Jason Adams, Minister of the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her sons-in-law, William A. Horton, Lonnie Gray, Elwood McAdams, Wayne Porter and her grandsons, Michael Porter and  Taylor Horton.

Memorial donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Sam Houston, San Benito, TX 78586.

The family acknowledges the loving care provided by her home care friends, Elvia Howell, Lupe Cortez, and Nellie Perez, who made it possible for Amelia to spend her last days in her home of 65 years and to her many friends from her beloved church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito, TX.
