Eustolia Loya Salinas

LYFORD — Eustolia Loya Salinas entered into eternal rest, Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen,  Texas.

She was born November 21, 1932 in Lyford,  Texas and the youngest daughter of the late Eusebio Loya, Sr. and Andrea Cavazos Loya. She met Frank P. Salinas form Raymondville and married on February 10, 1952.

For many years while raising their family, she and her husband were members of the L.H.S. Band Boosters, Supporters of the L.H.S. Football team, members of the Prince of Peace Church, members of the Alter Society and participate in the seasonal Jamaica’s at the Prince of Peace Church. She was also a volunteer worker at La Rosita Adult Day Care and at the Sunglo Adult Day Care Center.

Eustolia’s easy going and friendly personality allowed her to make many friends through out the years. No matter where she went or where she was a she never came home without making a new friend. She was known as one of Lyford’s Biggest Fan and supporter of Lyford’s Football team. She was a true Lyford Bulldog supporter since 1970 when her son now Coach Ricardo Salinas played for the Lyford Varsity Bulldogs. Every football season, come Friday she was out there along with other LHS football supporters decorating Bulldog Blvd. and old Business 77 with green and gold streamers. She was always ready to cheer the team on every Friday night even after her children were long gone from school. She was known to many besides her own grandchildren as Grandma Salinas. She was loved by many and was considered a true friend.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frank Salinas; her son, Ricardo Salinas (Letty); her daughters, Janie Gutierrez (Erasmo) and Nelda Jean Garza; grandchildren, Erasmo Gutierrez III, Bobbie Jean Garza, Frank Jason Gutierrez, Frank Ricardo Salinas, Laura Ann Salinas, Tracey Rae Garza, Leslie Lorraine Garza, Reyes Salinas; great grandchildren, Corrina Crystal Gutierrez, Julisa Gutierrez,  Taylor Brooke Garza; one sister, Alejandra Cruz of Taft,  Texas and sisters-in-law, Antonia Loya and Lydia Loya of Brownfield, TX.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Reyes Loya Sr., Manuel Loya of Brownfield, TX, Eusebio Loya of San Antonio, TX and sisters, Siria Loya and Rachel Cortez.

Pallbearers will be Frank Gutierrez, Frank Ricardo Salinas, Erasmo Gutierrez III, Reyes Salinas, Rick Loya, and Joe Castro.

A rosary will be held Sunday, February 15, 2004, 6 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lyford,  Texas. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lyford,  Texas. Burial will immediately follow at the Lyford Evergreen Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home in Raymondville,  Texas.

Josefa "La Guera" G. Flores

MERCEDES — Josefa "La Guera" G. Flores, 85, passed away Friday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacobo Flores in 1992.

She is survived by her long time companion, Jesus Longoria of Mercedes; eight sons, Luis Jacobo Flores of Anaheim, CA, Adalberto Flores of San Antonio, TX, Juan Javier Flores and Jacobo Flores, Jr., both of  Texas City, TX, Baldemar Rainer Flores, Fernando Flores, Gerardo Flores and Gilberto Flores all of Mecedes; two daughters, Maria Hortencia Cantu of Corpus Christi, TX, and Maria Magdalena Perales of Mercedes. Also surviving is one brother, Eulalio Garcia of Mercedes; one sister, Rita Ramos of Mercedes; 31 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel. Funeral Mass will be said Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Mercedes with burial following at Mercedes Memorial Restlawn under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home.

Maria M. Oviedo

Sebastian — Maria M. Oviedo, 75 years old, was born December 11, 1928 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, entered eternal rest on February 14, 2004 at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen,  Texas.

She’s preceded in death by her husband, Celestino Oviedo Sr. April 11, 1999.

She was a member of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in Sebastian, TX. She also sang in the church choir, and a member in the Alter Society.

She is survived by her brother, Guadalupe Martinez; sisters, Domitila Cita Roje Martinez of San Luis Potosi, MX; six daughters, Margie (Jim) Acuna, Angie (George) Villarreal, Rachel (Julian) Rodriguez, Yolanda (Beto) Rickford, Dora (Domingo) Rangel, Rosa (Edward) Mendez; five sons, Celestino Jr. (Mary) Oviedo,

Tomas (Berta) Oviedo, Ray (Lina) Oviedo, Abel (Martha) Oviedo, Ernesto Oviedo and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her sons and grandson Robert L. Stillman.

John 14:28—"You have heard me say to you I am going away and coming back to you, If you loved me, you will rejoice because I said, I am going to the Father, for my Father is greater than I."

Visitations will be held today, February 16, 2004 at St. Martin de Tours Church, Sabastian beginning at 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with prayer of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. tonight.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at 10 a.m. with Fr. David  Jackson S.S.C.C. as celebrant. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery, Sabastian, TX.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel 1217 South F Street, Harlingen.

Ysidra Losoya

EDINBURG, TX — Ysidra Losoya, 67, passed away Sunday at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

She is survived by her husband, Enrique Losoya of Edinburg; three sons, Guadalupe Ruiz, Rodolfo Ruiz both of Edinburg, and Alberto Ruiz of Mercedes; also surviving are two daughters, Marta Contreras of Donna, Albina Gonzalez of Stratford, TX; also surviving are eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Chapel services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Interment will follow at Solis Cemetery in La Feria.

Serving as pallbearers will be Guadalupe Ruiz, Rodolfo Ruiz, Alberto Ruiz, Juan Pablo Gonzalez, Armando Contreras, Manolito Ruiz. Honorary pallbearers will be Miguel Contreras, Fidencio Contreras, Ariel Ruiz, Pablo Gonzalez, Jr., Rodolfo Ruiz, Jr., Samuel Ruiz. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Maria De Jesus Cavazos

SANTA ROSA, TX — Maria De Jesus Cavazos, entered into the Lords heavenly kingdom, Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Knapp Medical Center.

She is survived by her parents, Sandra Garza and Enrique Cavazos; 2 brothers, Enrique Cavazos, Jr., and Modesto R. Cavazos; 2 sisters, Brandi M. Cavazos and Margarita C. Cavazos; maternal grandparents, Elena Garza and Reynaldo Garza; paternal grandparents, Modesto Cavazos and Alicia Cavazos; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at 10 a.m., with Fr. Andre Kazadi as celebrant at Santo Nombre Cemetery under the direction of Santa Rosa Funeral Home, 201 N. Main, Santa Rosa, TX.

Remigio Garza

SANTA ROSA, TX — Remigio Garza, 45, entered into the Lords heavenly kingdom, Sunday, February 15, 2004, at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

He is preceded in death by his father, Eugenio Garza in 1991 and a brother, Domingo Garza in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Antonieta Garza of San Rosa; 3 sons, Guadalupe Garza, Gilbert Garza and Javier Garza all of Santa Rosa; 2 daughters, Sylvia (Sergio Botello) Garza and Janet Garza both of Santa Rosa; mother, Nicolasa Garza of Santa Rosa; brothers, Elias Garza of Santa Rosa, Hilario Garza of La Feria, Ramon Garza and Jose Oscar Garza both of Santa Rosa, Rene Garza of Stanford, TX, Ernesto Garza of Harlingen; 4 sisters, Maria M. Morales of Combes, Juana Martinez of Harlingen, Consuelo Torres of Santa Rosa, and Candelaria Ruiz of Caro, MI; and 3 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 10 a.m. with Deacon Genaro Ibarra as celebrant. Burial will follow to La Capilla Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lupe Garza, Benito Barrera, German Perez, Marco Perez, Marcos Estrada, Gabriel Larios, Noe Garza, Kenny Martinez, David Mart Martinez, and Eric Morales.

Arrangements will be under the direction of Santa Rosa Funeral Home, 201 N. Main, Santa Rosa, TX.

Santos G. Losoya

SANTA ROSA, TX — Santos G. Losoya, 81, passed away Friday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

He was born April 7, 1922 in Mercedes, TX. He was preceded in death by his son, Rolando Losoya in 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia Mireles Losoya; five sons, Alberto (Ana) Losoya, Ricardo (Gloria) Losoya both from Rochelle, IL, Santos Losoya, Jr. from Jonseboro, Ark., Primitivo (Guillermina) Losoya, Rene (Dalia) Losoya both of Santa Rosa; three daughters, Maria E. Ellis, Isabelle (Chon) Astudillo both of Rochelle, IL, Refugia Losoya of Santa Rosa; also surviving are 17 grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Interment will follow at La Capilla Cemetery also in Santa Rosa. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Nina Mae Reid

WESLACO, TX — Nina Mae Reid went home to meet her Savior on February 15, 2004. She was born on February 25, 1916 in Honey Grove,  Texas to Norman and Lilly Moore.

As a young girl, her family moved to Mercedes to farm. She married Eura Reid in 1938.

They had two young sons and had been married only five years when he passed away in 1943. With tremendous help from her family, she raised two very fine sons, Jesse and Norman, both who precede her in her homecoming. She worked at Magic Valley Co-Op in Mercedes until her retirement. She enjoyed playing "42", visiting with family and friends and friends and cooking. She made the best chocolate chip cookies!

She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Marion Moore, Malcolm Moore and Willard Moore.

She is survived by one brother, N.J. Moore, Jr. of Kerrville, TX; a sister, Ruby Casey of Corpus Christi, TX; a daughter-in-law, Sally Reid of Mercedes. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Debbie and David Martin, Tim and Beckie Reid and Heather Reid; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler Martin, Courtney, Allison and Norman Eric Reid all of the mid-Valley area. Graveside services and interment will be held today, Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Don Brytenson, Minister of Mercedes Christian Church.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to  Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Treasure Street Auction, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, TX 75219. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.

Evila C. Elizondo

SAN BENITO, TX — Evila C. Elizondo, 89, of San Benito,  Texas entered into the eternal kingdom of her Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, January 16, 2004, at her residence.

She was born in San Benito,  Texas on March 10, 1914 to Julian and Guadalupe G. Cortez.

She will always be remembered as a Beloved Wife, Mother, and a Woman that had music in her Soul, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be starting at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2004, in the North Chapel, and her funeral service will be on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 10 a.m., in the North Chapel with Deacon Margarito Briones officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be: George Elizondo, Mario Elizondo, Gabriel Vargas, Juan Aguilar, Jr., Tony Aguilar, and Michael Vargas, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mike Vargas, and Placido Cortez, Jr.

She is survived by the following: 4 children, Mario Elizondo, San Benito, TX, Rosemarie Vargas, San Benito, TX, George Elizondo, San Benito, TX, and Sandra E. Aguilar, Rio Hondo, TX; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; 3 siblings, Don Cortez, Harlingen, TX, Julian Cortez, Harlingen, TX and Nena Myers, Hartford, Connecticut.

She was preceded in death by husband: Jacob Elizondo and 3 siblings: Placido Cortez, Israel Cortez, and Rebecca Gonzalez.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Professional care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston Blvd., San Benito,  Texas 78586. 956-399-1331.

Gilberto Cavazos

MERCEDES, TX — Gilberto Cavazos, 61, passed away Tuesday at his residence in Mercedes.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Cavazos of Mercedes; four sons, Antonio Cavazos of Ft. Worth, Gilberto Cavazos, Jr. of Mercedes, Tomas Cavazos of Monett, MO and Juan Cavazos of Sinton, TX; three daughters, Emilia Paredes of Mercedes, Petra Carpenter of Ft. Worth and Maria Huerta of Mercedes; two brothers, Rafael Cavazos of La Mesa, TX and Leonardo Cavazos of Weslaco; one sister, Inez Ibarra of Mercedes.

Also surviving are 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes.

Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Arrangements are under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Joan Woltman

HARLINGEN, TX — Our Mother and Wife, Joan Woltman, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, Donald of Harlingen; and 3 children, Allan Woltman, Karen Harrison, Susan Dimos; and 5 grandchildren, A.J. Woltman, Amy Harrison, Adriana Woltman, Michelle Dimos, and Marc Harrison.

In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated in her memory to the 1st United Methodist Church of San Benito,  Texas.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2004 with Rev. Jason E. Adams officiating at the 1st United Methodist Church, located at 400 N. Sam Houston Blvd., San Benito,  Texas.

Interment will then follow to Heavenly Grace Cemetery in Harlingen,  Texas.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito,  Texas 78586.

Gabriel T. Silva

South Bend, IN — Gabriel T. Silva, 62 years old, residing on Clara Avenue, South Bend, passed away at 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Silva was born on February 23, 1941, in La Feria, TX to the late Tomas and Petra (Trevino) Silva. He lived in South Bend for the past 38 years. On March 17, 1961, in La Feria, TX, he married the former Dominga Martinez who survives.

Along with his loving wife of 43 years, Dominga, survivors include: five daughters, Noelia (Kevin) Sanders of Lakeville, Mary (Kevin) Fuchs of Lakeville, Norma (Robert) Hennesey of South Bend, Sylvia (John) Horvath of South Bend, and Nelfa (Chad) Newport of South Bend; 13 grandchildren; four sisters, Lucia Leija, Tomasa Trevino, Rosa Jimenez, and Petra Garza, all of  Texas; and one brother, Lupe Silva of  Texas.

Mr. Silva retired from KoKoKu Wire Industries, South Bend where he was involved with the machine maintenance. Mr. Silva was extremely knowledgeable with machinery and was mechanically inclined. As a hobby, he enjoyed working on cars and helped many people in doing so.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704  Johnson Road, South Bend. Rev. Derrick Sneyd will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Friends may visit with the family from 3-8 p.m., on Friday, February 20th, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, where a rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Gabriel T. Silva may be donated to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
