Virginia R. Guerrero

SEBASTIAN, TX — Virginia R. Guerrero, 59, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004 at her home in Sebastian, TX. She was born January 30, 1945 in Sebastian,  Texas to Esteban and Cecilia (Rodriguez) Guerrero.

A Rosary will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m., at St. Martin of Tours Church in Sebastian.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, 4 p.m., July 8, 2004, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Sebastian.

Her body will be lying in State at the Church, Tuesday and Wednesday until time of service.

Virginia was member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, she was a CCD Teacher for many years, Eucharist Minister and also served Retama Manor residence, Alter Society and member of the choir.

She is survived by her mother, Cecilia Guerrero of Sebastian; four sisters, Catalina Guerrero of Harlingen, Juanita Guerrero of Sebastian, Maria L. (Enrique) Torres of Sebastian and Nora Guerrero of Sebastian; four brothers, Merced (Belia) Guerrero, Victoriano (Enriqueta) Guerrero, Margarito Guerrero all of Sebastian and Basilio (Angelita) Guerrero of Brownsville.

She is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews, 24 grandnieces and nephews and 12 great grandnieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Esteban Guerrero; and sister, Amparo Guerrero.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Antonio Guerrero, Victor Guerrero, Jr., Ronnie Guerrero, Michael Torres, Thomas Carlos Guerrero and Adrian Romo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Torres and Esteban Romo, Godsons, R.J. Gonzales and C.J. Guerrero.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Martin of Tours Church Building Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Pedro P. Tapia

HARLINGEN/MINNESOTA — Pedro Pascual Tapia, 74, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 2, 2004, at Burnsville, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Leonor Tapia; and a brother, Hector Tapia.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dominga Zetina; his children, Leonor Gonzalez, Rosemary Corpus, Francis Tapia, Mary Lopez, Lucia Tapia, Victor M. Tapia, Nicolas Tapia, Jose V. Tapia all of Minnesota, Eva Martinez, and Mario A. Tapia of Harlingen, TX.

Also survived by siblings, Amador, Raul, Antonio, Candelario Tapia; and sister, Josefina Martinez.

Several nieces and nephews and 19 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Mont Meta Restlawn/Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Harlingen, TX from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 7, 2004, with a same day Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Hector Carrasco at 3 p.m.

Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Chapel in La Feria, TX.

Funeral services are entrusted to the care of Mont Meta Restlawn/Cox Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX a Dignity Memorial Provider.

Rafael Romero Tapia

HARLINGEN, TX —Rafael Romero Tapia, 60, entered into the Lords heavenly kingdom Friday, July 9. 2004 while at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Imelda Cantu. 2 daughters: Irma Cantu and Hilda Hernandez all of Harlingen. Parents: Eduardo Tapia and Belen Romero of Mante, Tamaulipas. 2 brothers: Nicolas Tapia and Jose Tapia both of Austin. 6 sisters: Ester Tapia and MartaTapia both of Austin, Graciela Tapia of Rio Hondo, Maria de la Luz, Oliva Tapia, Rosaura Tapia all of Mante, Tamps. 4 step-grandchildren: Jeanette Cantu, George Hernandez, Luis G. Hernandez, Arturo Sepulveda. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held and a holy rosary recited Monday July 12, 2004 .

Funeral services will be held today Tuesday July 13, 2004 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic with Fr. Jorge Antonio Gomez.

Pallbearers will be Jorge Hernandez, Leonel Lopez, Jose G. Cantu, Vicente R. Henriquez, Nicolas Tapia and Vicente Henriquez, Jr.

Burial will follow to Las Rucias Cemetery under the direction of Trinty Funeral Chapel 1217 South F. Street Harlingen, Tx

Roberto Garcia

SEBASTIAN, TEXAS — Roberto Garcia, 44, passed away Friday, July 9, 2004 at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, TX. A Rosary will be held Tuesday 7:00 p.m., at St. Martin of tours Catholic Church in Sebastian where his body will be lying in state.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:00 a.m., July 14th, at St. Martin of Tours.

Burial will follow at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Sebastian.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Garcia of Sebastian; one son, David Garcia, II of Sebastian; one daughter, Amanda Garcia of Sebastian; Father, David Garcia of Sebastian; Mother; Esther Ambriz of La Mesa, TX; four sisters, Yolanda Morales of Lubbock, Sylvia Luna of San Antonio, Ida Coy of Sebastian and Lesvia Martinez of Leander, TX.

Pallbearers will be Juan Tovar, Christopher Acosta, Jonathan Acosta, Roman Morales, Nat Esparza and Ernest Ramirez, Jr.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Stevenson F. Pawloski

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN — Stevenson F. Pawloski, 52, died on July 7, 2004. He was hit by a car while changing a tire.

He died at a Michigan Hospital. The Pawloski wintered in Harlingen, TX. Mr Pawloski is survived by his wife Debra Pawloski, 2 stepsons, 2 stepdaughters and 17 grandchildren.

Adrian A. Lino

LOS FRESNOS, TX — Adrian Agustin Lino, 32, entered into rest on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Adrian was born in Harlingen,  Texas on September 23, 1971 to Jose Alcario Lino and Ernestina Herrera Lino. Adrian was a hard worker and enjoyed doing his carpentry work. He also enjoyed to bar-b-que.

He is survived by his mother, Ernestina Lino; brother, Jose Alcario (ex-wife, Imelda) Lino, Jr.; sister, Idaline (Orlando Olvera) Lino; uncle and godfather, Raul C. Cortez; ex-wife, Claudia Claudio; daughters, Sabrina Lino and Sierra Lino; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his other family, parents Pablo and Aida Juarez; brother, Polly (Noemi) Juarez; and sister, Elaine (James) Perez, Diane (Smiley) Casarez and Amy (Raul) Flores.

Adrian was preceded in death by his father, Jose Alcario Lino, Sr.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at San Benito Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Claudio, Alex Puente, Joel Salas, Sr., Willie Arriaz, Luis Diaz, Richard Ceventes, Raul "Roy" Lino and Luis Lino Sr.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home.

Evangelina Quintanilla

RIO HONDO, TX — Evangelina R. Quintanilla, 96, entered into the Lord’s Kingdom on April 18, 2004.

She is preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers, and the father of her six children, Miguel Quintanilla.

She is survived by four daughters, Elida Gonzales of Hempstead,  Texas, Oralia (Santiago) Sanchez of Grand Prairie,  Texas, Irene (Jose) Hinojosa of Rio Hondo,  Texas, Rita (Joe) Franco of McAllen,  Texas, two sons, Lupe (Sandy) Quintanilla, and Arturo (Juanita) Quintanilla of Amarillo,  Texas.

She is also survived by two brothers, Matiriano Rodriguez of Brownsville,  Texas and Juan Rodriguez of San Antonio,  Texas, 27 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, July 20, 2004 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen.

The funeral procession will depart the funeral home on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. for a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo,  Texas. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Cemetery in San Bentio,  Texas.

Pallbearers will be Chris Scott, Richard Sanchez, Santiago Sanchez, III, Joseph Franco, III, Miguel Gonzales, and Miguel Quintanilla.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Robert Holder and Dr. Juan Maldonado and staff at the Harlingen Nursing Center and staff for all of their loving care and attention towards their mother.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen,  Texas.

Andres Gomez

HARLINGEN, TX — Andres G. Gomez, 71, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2004, at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Gomez, was born in Harlingen, retired employee of Frito-Lay after 26 years of service as a route sales man in 1992m and was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

He is survived by his dearly beloved wife, Guadalupe; sons, Epigmenio (Rebecca) Gomez, Andres Gomez, Jr. (Georgina) of Houston, Jesus Gomez of Harlingen; daughter, Maria Luisa Gomez (Ed Tabarez) of Harlingen; sisters, Maria Pena (Jesus) Primera and Josefa (late Moises) Monroy of California; sisters-in-law, Rafaela (Hector) Garcia of Palm Valley, Enedina (Leon) Hernandez of Weslaco, Idolinda, Angelita De La Rosa and Diana Guevara of La Feria; brothers-in-law, Ramon and Epigmenio (Lupita) De La Rosa of Indiana, Gilberto (Eva) De La Rosa of Lyford, TX; grandchildren, Epigmenio Jr., Chelsea, Elijah, Alyssa, Adria, Andres Gomez III, Ashley Gomez, Crystal Garza, and Gregorio Tabarez II.

He is preceded in death by parents, Epigmenio and Apolonia Gomez; and sisters, Petra and Roberta Gomez.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosar at 7 p.m. at Mont Meta Funeral Home Chapel in Harlingen.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Alphonsus McHugh, SS.CC at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2004.

Serving as pallbearers will be Epigmenio Gomez, Andres Gomez, Jesse Gomez, Don Capetillo, Gilbert De La Rosa, Hector Garcia and Honorable pallbearer will be Epigmenio (PJ) Gomez.

Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in La Feria, TX.

Funeral services are entrusted to the care of Mont Meta Restlawn/Cox Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider.

Rene Moreno

WESLACO, TX — Rene Moreno, 56, passed away July 15, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Rene was born in Donna, TX where he attended public schools and graduated from Donna High School. He attended Pan American University, Laredo College and Laredo University where he studied Criminal Justice.

Rene began his 26 year law enforcement career when he enlisted in the United States Army on September 6, 1968. He belonged to the 194th Maintenance Battalion, Eight Army. His duties involved maintaining all emergency equipment for National Emergency Overseas within the Republic of Korea and he also supervised approximately 50 men whose responsibility was to repair emergency communication equipment. He earned the National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expitionary Medal (Korea) and the Expert Marksman Medal. He then worked with several local agencies which included Donna Police Department, Weslaco Police Department, McAllen Police Deparment and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department. He went on to continue his career with the Legacy INS Border Patrol in April of 1975 as an Immigration Patrol Agent stationed in Laredo,  Texas. He transferred to the Progreso port of entry as an Immigration Inspector in July of 1978. In December of 1983, he was promoted to Immigration Examiner and transferred to the Harlingen District.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucy S. Moreno of Weslaco; his two sons, Rene, Jr. (Irina) Moreno of Denton and Roberto Moreno of Boston, MA; his parents, Luciano and Francisca Moreno of Donna; his brothers, Mario (Lupe) Lopez, Javier (Patricia) Moreno, Alvaro (Frances) Moreno, Pedro (Azalea) Moreno; and his sisters, Hilda (Ramiro) Rangel, twin sisters, Rosa (Joel) Garcia, Andrea (Jose) Cavazos, Anna Maria (Alex) Madrigal and Laura Hernandez. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Richard, Annie, Matthew, Jacqueline, Anjelica, Veronica, Alvaro, Jr., Ruben, Rubi, Fabian, Ilissa, Trae, Noah, Mark, Lucas, Alexa; and his great grand nieces and nephews, Nicolas, Morgan, Marquis, Karina, and Desiree.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hermenejildo and Leocadia Moreno; maternal grandparents, Mariano and Aniceta Lopez; his nephew, Javier Moreno, Jr.; his niece, Elizabeth Moreno; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Domingo and Agelita Sanchez.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Donna. Interment of ashes will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #8788 if McAllen.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.

Lee Roy Davis

HARLINGEN, TX — Lee Roy Davis, 21, passed away on July 19, 2004, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., continuing on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Mont Meta Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Service will be held at Templo Jerusalem at 10 a.m., July 22, 2004, with Rev. Reynaldo Silva officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, TX.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mont Meta Restlawn/Cox Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX, a Dignity Memorial Provider.

Paul Worth

Rancho Viejo, TX — Paul Worth of Rancho Viejo, died peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the age of 93.

He is survived by his wife, Libby and his children, Robert Worth of Mastic Beach, NY, Nancy Mirman of Somers, NY, John Doyle of Prescott, AZ, Pat Doyle of Sacramento, CA, Mike Doyle of Laredo, Dan Doyle of McAllen, Sue Hassel of San Antonio, and Kelly Doyle of Austin; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He was the longest acting treasurer of the Men’s Golf Association of Rancho Viejo where he lived since 1974. After he retired from his business, Rent-A-Tool Company in 1972, he operated Pali Bookkeepers until December 2003. In 2001, AARP saluted him as one of the oldest working people in the Valley.
