RELAMPAGO, TX — Guadalupe C. Gomez, 48, passed away Sunday at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

He is survived by his wife Maria C. Gomez of Relampago; a son Guadalupe Gomez of Relampago; his mother Victoria G. Gomez of Relampago; two brothers Jim (Zaida) Gomez of Houston, Ricardo (Alexandra) Gomez, Jr. of Relampago; six sisters Janie Ayala of La Feria, Linda (Macario) Mejia, Irma Gomez both of Relampago, Gloria (Richard) Huerta, Alicia (Larry) Gonzales both of McAllen; Margaret (Mario) Castaneda of Corpus Christi. also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Progreso. Cremation will follow.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Ayala, Mike Mejia, Rick Huerta, David Huerta, Max Mejia, Abram Mejia. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Gomez, Ricardo Gomez, Jr., Aaron Gonzales.

Arrangemens have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Dora Alicia Lopez

MERCEDES, TX — Dora Alicia Lopez, 51, a lifetime resident of Mercedes,  Texas passed away on Sunday July 18, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen,  Texas. She was born November 11, 1952 to Manuel and Ofelia Yanez De La O in Matamores, Mexico.

She is survived by her loving family: Husband: Jorge Lopez of Mercedes,  Texas; Mother: Ofelia De La O of Mercedes, TX; Children: 1 daughter, Raquel (Gilbert) Gomez of Harlingen, TX; 2 sons: Noel (Marisela) Lopez of San Antonio, TX, Jorge Luis Lopez of Mercedes, TX; 2 grandaughters: Kimberly and Leslie Lopez of San Antonio, TX; 2 sisters: Dalia (Juan) Carr of Mercedes, TX, and Belinda (Reynaldo) Moreno of Mercedes, TX; 4 brothers: Javier (Maria) De La O of Mercedes, Victor (Rosie) De La O of Mercedes, Sergio (Sonia) De La O of Mercedes, and Saul (Edna) De La O of Weslaco, TX.

She is preceded in death by her father: Manuel De La O.

Special thanks to her aunts: Benita and Ester Yanez; and family friend, Moses Arjona, Jr., who were all there during her illness.

Though Dora struggled with her illness she was always a very dedicated volunteer with the parental involvement school program. Dora was a very loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, she is and always will be very loved and missed by all those who knew her.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a holy rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 21, 2004. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church with Fr. George Kerketta officiating. Interment will then follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria, TX.

Pallbearers are: son, Noel Lopez, Saul De La O, Sergio De La O, Javier De La O, Reyanldo Moreno Jr, Jose Manuel Moreno. Honorary Pallbearers are: Victor De La O and Javier De La O, Jr.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Mercedes,  Texas.

Guadalupe Arguelles

MERCEDES, TX — Guadalupe Arguelles, 89, passed away Monday at Retama Manor Nursing Center in Weslaco.

He is survived by his wife Ercilia Garcia Arguelles of Mercedes; four sons Fernando Arguelles of McAllen, Guadalupe Arguelles, Jr., Rudy Arguelles, both of Mercedes, Roberto Arguelles of Mission; a brother Francisco Arguelles; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; three nieces and sixteen nephews.

Visitation wll be held Tuesday from 11:00 until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Chapel service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Martha M. Rodgers

HOUSTON, TX — Martha M. Rodgers, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2004 in Houston,  Texas.

Predeceased by her husband, J.D. Rodgers, she is survived by 2 sons and 4 daughters.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, from 7-9 p.m., at Darling-Mouser. Home Going services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 31, at St. James Baptist Church (1/4 mile N. 802 at Old Port Isabel Rd.) with Pastor Leroy Roundtree officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Jose F. Rodriguez Sr.

HARLINGEN, TX — Jose Francisco Rodriguez, Sr., 83, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Rodriguez was a lifelong resident of Harlingen and was preceded in death by his wife Maria Santos Rodriguez.

He is survived by his children Jose Francisco (Sylvia) Rodriguez, Jr. of Rio Hondo, TX., Santos (Rafaela) Rodriguez of Primera, TX, Adelia Hernandez of Rio Hondo, TX, Guadalupe Salinas of Harlingen, TX, Rosalva Skinner of Harlingen, TX, Isabel Gonzalez of Harlingen, TX, Jose Rodriguez of Harlingen, TX, Jose Luis (Gina) Guzman of Japan, Michelle Diaz of Arizona; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with Pastor Guadalupe Ramirez of the Templo Rosa De Saron of Rio Hondo officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Manuela P. Gibson

HARLINGEN, TX — Manuela Perez Gibson, 73, passed away July 27, 2004 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her sisters, Herminia Perez, Harlingen, Guadalupe (Carlos) De Los Rios, Pebble Beach, CA; brothers, Pedro (Eva) Perez, Combes, TX, Felix (Dora) Perez, Combes, TX, Jose Angel (Darlene) Perez, Lyford, TX, and Dion Perez of Marble Falls, TX; brother-in-law, Elias Flores, Combes, TX; and sister-in-law, Cornelia Perez of Blessing, TX; 29 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Gibson; parents, Lucio and Maria Perez; sister, Aurora Flores; and brothers, Margarito Perez, Abelardo Perez and Mario Perez.

Manuela was an active member of the Queen of Peace Church in Harlingen. She loved God and she loved life. Her family was a great source of pride to her. Her astute observations and very frank discussions will be greatly missed.

A rosary will be held at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 30, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen, with graveside services at 4:00 p.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, TX.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Martha M. Rodgers

HOUSTON, TX — Martha M. Rodgers, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2004 in Houston,  Texas.

Predeceased by her husband, J.D. Rodgers, she is survived by 2 sons and 4 daughters.

Marilyn Haddox

HARLINGEN, TX — Marilyn Haddox, 73, stepped into God’s loving arms on May 30, 2004. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.

She loved, and will be missed by many others.

Her husband, Allen H. Haddox, and her son, Bill Haddox, preceded her in death.

Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Charles M. Herring; her grandson and granddaughter, Charles K. and Kathryn Herring; her sister, Shirley Hadlock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held for Marilyn at 8th & Harrison Church of Christ, Harlingen, on July 31, 2004, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, TX 78586.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Albina Badillo

SANTA ROSA, TX — Albina Badillo, age 94, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening at Rio Grande Regional Hospital. She was born in Pannamaria,  Texas. She grew up in the La Grulla, TX area and had lived in Santa Rosa for over 75 years.

She is survived by her 12 children: Linda Flores of Santa Rosa, Frank Badillo (Polly) of Woodster Ohio, Carmen (John) Lange of Amarillo TX, Isabel Rodriguez of Santa Rosa, Manuel (Severa) Badillo, Jr. of Natchez, Miss., Joe (June) Badillo of Omaha, Neb, Oralia Badillo of Santa Rosa, Estella Weidner of Katy, Ellen (David) Webb of Katy, Robert (Jesusa) Badillo of Donna, Adela Badillo of Santa Rosa, Rick (Cindy) Badillo of Alamo; 2 sisters, Adelaida Pena of Santa Rosa, Mariana Gonzales of Santa Rosa; 1 brother, Pedro Ruiz of Santa Rosa.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Badillo; parents, Gabriel and Herlinda Badillo; her brothers, Bruno Villareal Robstown, TX, Guadalupe Ruiz, Sr., and Amanzio Garza; a son, Ricardo Badillo.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m to 9 p.m at Santa Rosa Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 pm. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 31, at 3 p.m at Primera Iglesia Bautista of Santa Rosa with Pastor Lee Castro officiating. Burial will follow to La Capilla Cemetery in Santa Rosa.

Pallbearers will be David Webb, Robert Badillo, Rick Badillo, Rene Lopez, Jr., Lonnie Lopez, and Manuel Badillo.

Mona S. Hopkins

BOERNE, TX — Mona Salinas Chong Hopkins, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2004.

She was the Superintendent in Hebronville ISD and Eagle Pass ISD, Asst.

Superintendent of Harlindale, Deputy Superintendent of Harlingen, and Area Administrator for Brownsville ISD.

Always very well respected in her profession, she was recongnized for her achievements in January with an Honoarary Lifetime Achievement Award from  Texas Assocaiation of School Administrators. Her mother, Margarita B. Salinas, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Hopkins; daughter, Mona M. Fuentes and husband, Jerry of San Antonio; son, Thomas K. Hopkins and wife, Kimberly of Harlingen; son, Patrick K. Hopkins and wife, Maricela of San Antonio; daughter, Lisa Karen Carlson and husband, Aaron of The Woodlands; and grandsons, Thomas C. Hopkins, Zachary Hopkins, Patrick A. Carlson, Michael McDonald Carlson, and Alejandro Patricio Hopkins.

A Rosary was recited on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Porter Loring North Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 3 p.m., at the Holy Cross Mausoleum Chapel, 17501 Nacogdoches Road. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Mausoleum.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Marcial Reyes, Ismael Mijares, Danny Martinez, Danny Tijerina and Rey Perez.

HARLINGEN, TX — Gilberto Trevino Rosales, 61, entered into the Lords heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, July 27, 2004.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Elena Rosales; brothers: Pedro Rosales, Calixtro Rosales, Luis Rosales, Miguel Rosales, Geronimo Tamayo; sisters: Carolina Garza, Antonia Luna Robles Rosales.

He is survived by his wife, Aurora Ordaz of Harlingen; 1 daughter: Frances Rosales Ford of San Antonio; 1 step-daughter: Carmen Malone of Harlingen; 2 brothers: Teodoro (Frances) Rosales and Tomas (Angelita) Rosales all of Harlingen; sisters: Rosa Abrego (Juan) of El Ranchito, Delfina Ayala of La Feria, and Susie Rocha of Houston, TX.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Rosales, Kiki Rosales, Rollie Rosales, Gilberto Rosales, Elias Rosales, Roberto Abrego.

Visitation will be held Friday July 30, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Chapel services will be held Saturday July 31, 2004 at Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Trinity Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow to El Muerto Cemetery under the direction of Trinity Funeral.

Cruz M. Rodriguez

MERCEDES, TX — Cruz M. Rodriguez, 73, passed away Thursday at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Maria Moreno; one brother, Claudio Moreno; one grandson, Rocky Joe Moreno and is survived by her husband, Margarito Rodriguez of Mercedes; two sons, Margarito Rodriguez, Jr. of Mercedes, Jorge Salazar of McAllen; a daughter, Norma Linda Rodriguez of Mercedes; a brother, Maximo Moreno of Hidalgo; a sister, Porfiria Vargas of McAllen; also surviving are six grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
