Charlleen Ogden Wallingsford

NEDERLAND/RAYMONDVILLE — Charlleen Ogden Wallingsford, 47, went to be with the Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 in Beaumont,  Texas, after a long struggle with cancer.

Charlleen was born on August 24, 1957 to Jim and Betty Ogden in Weslaco,  Texas. She attended school in Lasara and Raymondville before graduating from Raymondville High School in 1975. She married Chad Wallingsford on March 12, 1987.

Survivors include her husband, Chad of Nederland,  Texas; her son, CJ and daughter, Chryste, both of them home; her parents, Jim and Betty Ogden of Danbury,  Texas; two sisters, Jackie (Kyle) Webster and Marci Ogden of Danbury,  Texas; two nieces, Kacey Williams and Chantal Webster; four nephews, Farrell (Stephanie) Williams, Karson Williams, Steven Webster and Michael Barnes; her in-laws, Kenneth and Ann Williams of Coleman,  Texas; a special cousin, Debra Jane Powell of Livingston,  Texas and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Ogden Williams, her maternal grandparents, Charlie and Leona English and her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Merry Mae Ogden.

Charlleen will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends are welcome to meet with Charlleen’s family at Duddlesten Funeral Home, Sunday at 4 p.m.

The family requests memorials to the First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Raymondville with burial in the Raymondville Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Valentino (Val) "GG" De La Torre

Harlingen — Valentino (Val) "GG" De La Torre, 59, was called home to the Lord’s Heavenly Kingdom October 1, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born February 14, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to his parents Frank and Lupe De La Torre.

He worked for the state of Illinois as a youth counselor in Chicago and was also a paraprofessional for many years. His hobbies were collecting antique cars and he loved to read.

He survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Sylvia De La Torre of Harlingen; two daughters, Olga Lydia Quezada (Tony) of Harlingen and Cristela Brooks (Philip) of Chicago, IL; one adopted daughter, Linda De La Torre, 11 grandchildren and one brother, Martin De La Torre of Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his son, Valentino De La Torre Jr., his parents, Frank and Lupe De La Torre and a brother, James De La Torre.

Visitations will be held Monday, October 4, 2004 beginning at 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. officiated by Pastor Mel Justice of the First Church of the Nazarene. Chapel Service will be held Tuesday October 5, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Juan A. Quezada, Benito Garcia, Alex Rodriguez, Manuel Hernandez, Jonathan Quezada, Alberto "Tico" Quezada, Raul Rodriguez and Isreal Perez.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel, 1217 South F Street, Harlingen, TX 78550.

Adrian E. Sanchez

Harlingen — Adrian E. Sanchez, 41, of Harlingen entered into rest October 3, 2004. Adrian was born November 7, 1962 in Harlingen. Adrian was a 1982 graduate of Harlingen High School and played varsity football. He attended The University of  Texas in San Antonio from 1983-1986. He later moved to California where he was an Executive Chef for Houston’s Restaurant of Beverly Hills and Mortan’s of Chicago.

He is survived by his children, Garrett Matthew Sanchez and Alexandra Kelsey Sanchez of Orange County, California; his parents, Primitivo and Aurora Sanchez of Harlingen; sister, Diana (Domingo) Lopez of Dallas; two brothers, Eduardo (Elvia) Sanchez and Steve Sanchez of Harlingen; nieces, Criselda Sanchez, Mia Lopez, Emily Lopez; nephews, Eric Sanchez, Vicente and Donovan Lopez, and his girlfriend Mary Villagomez.

Visitation will be today, Monday, from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. and Tuesday, 10 a.m. till 9 p.m. and prayer services will be at 7 p.m. both days. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2004 departing the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. service at Abundant Life Church in Harlingen and interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Oscar Noyola, Domingo Lopez, Manuel Flores, Ramiro Rodriguez, Daniel V. Cantu, and Herb Tamez Jr.

Adrian had many friends and was known for his sense of humor; he had an outgoing personality and was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." Luke 23:42-43.

C.L. Boyle

HARLINGEN, TX — C.L. "Smokey" Boyle, 91, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2004 in Harlingen,  Texas.

He was born in Pettus,  Texas on June 27, 1913 to Garnnet Boyle and Hester Virginia Swisher Boyle. He graduated from Taft High School in 1928. "Smokey" as he was known acquired the nick name from his semi-pro baseball days. He worked at an oil refinery in Pettus,  Texas as a stillman and lab technician and also rebuilt and managed a refinery in the New Orleans, LA area. He managed a radio station KVIC in Victoria, TX and was a foreman at a plant that built boilers for Destroyers in Gretna, LA. He also was a builder and owner of NAPA Motorparts Store in Harlingen for 15 years. He was a partner in a used car business and vice-president of Burton Auto Supply. He also owned 3 fruit groves in the Valley. He worked many years with the Valley Sportsman‘s Club to get Trout and Redfish put on the game fish list and netting out of the coastal areas.

"Smokey" farmed and worked with Valley Youth Crusaders numbering 3 to 400 valley youth. He later ministered and preached to thousands of Winter Texans for over 30 years and was invited to preach at over 100 churhes here in the Valley. In the summers he preached around United States, Canada, Japan, and England. He was president of the Baptist Brotherhood Association and a member of the Gideons. "Smokey" also was known for the many visits he made with his men‘s Sunday School class across the border with gifts from the Frank Ferree Organization also known as the "Border Angels". He also was inducted into the Valley Football Hall of Fame for his over 36 years of officiating in the area.

He is survived by his dearly loved and missed by wife, Helen Louise Bunicke of Harlingen whom he married in El Paso, TX in 1938; sisters, Edith Boyle Kennedy of Corpus Christi, TX, Joyce Boyle of San Antonio, TX and Ginger Boyle Terrell of Waco, TX and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at the Rio Hondo Baptist Church in Rio Hondo, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2004 with the Rev. Gene Horton and Rev. Buddy Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be the Deacons from the Rio Hondo Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations may be made to The Gideons, P.O. Box 290, Harlingen,  Texas 78551.

Guadalupe Casanova, Jr.

LOS FRESNOS, TX — Guadalupe "J.R." Casanova, Jr., 21, of Los Fresnos,  Texas entered into the eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ early Sunday morning, October 3, 2004 in Los Fresnos, TX. He was born on October 11, 1982 in Harlingen,  Texas and was a resident of Los Fresnos,  Texas for many years.

He leaves behind a loving family: mother, Beatriz Casanova, Los Fresnos,  Texas; father, Lupe Casanova, Los Fresnos,  Texas; sister, Josefina C. Martinez, Chicago Heights, IL; brother, Joey Casanova, Los Fresnos,  Texas; son, Ismael Casanova, Los Fresnos,  Texas; girlfriend, Kelly Fivek, Los Fresnos,  Texas; maternal grandmother, Josefina Solano, San Benito,  Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His pallbearers will be: Leo Casanova, Martin Casanova, Alfonso Casanova, Juan Patino, Mario Valdovinos and Rolando Flores.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the North Chapel, with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 in the North Chapel at 2 p.m. and interment will follow to San Benito City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors, 395 S. Sam Houston Blvd., San Benito,  Texas 78586. 956-399-1331.

Bobbie Petch

HARLINGEN — Bobbie Thornton Petch, 75, passed away Monday, October 4, 2004 at her residence in Harlingen. Mrs. Petch was born in Ft. Worth,  Texas on November 25, 1928 and was a former resident of Port Isabel. She graduated from Baylor University and taught school in La Feria for 28 years.

For many years Bobbie was a violinist with the Valley Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen, member of the Laguna Madre Yacht Club and member of the South  Texas Chorale.

She is survived by son, David Feuriet of Waco; step-son, Randy Petch of Weslaco; step-daughters, Lorna Petch of Wimberly and Karen Grigsby of Hartford, CT; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Petch in 1993.

Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 10 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2004 with Rev. Steve Purdy officiating. Burial services will be held in Ft. Worth,  Texas on Saturday, October 9, 2004.

A gathering of the family and friends will be held after Services at the 1st United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The South  Texas Choral, The Golden Palms Retirement Center Library or the 1st United Methodist Church in Harlingen.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Guadalupe R. Garcia

CLEVELAND/HARLINGEN — Guadalupe R. Garcia, 91, entered into rest on Monday, October 4, 2004 in Conroe, TX. Mrs. Garcia was born in San Benito, TX on Jan. 1, 1913 to Maximo and Josefa Rodriguez.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ezequiel Garcia; and by her son, Jose Jorge Garcia.

She is survived by her four sons, Ezequiel (Maria Alicia) Garcia, Jr. of Dallas, TX, Humberto (Velma) Garcia of Richland Hills, TX, Cayetano Garcia of Cleveland, TX, Pedro (Gloria) Garcia of Lamesa, TX; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Belia Coy of San Benito, TX; and numerous other family members.

Visitation will be held today, October 6, 2004, from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on, Thursday, October 7, 2004, at 9:30 AM for a Catholic funeral service at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Juan Valenzuela as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park Cemetery in San Benito, TX.

Pallbearers will be Chris Garcia, Bert Garcia, Zeke Garcia, J.J. Garcia, Marcos Garcia and Rene Galvan. Honorary pallbearers will be Nelson Fleming, Andy Jaszkowik, Joe Tamez and Jesse Tamez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen.

Weldon Haynes

HARLINGEN — Weldon C. Haynes, 86, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

He was born to Reverend and Mrs. Palmer T. Haynes on January 9, 1918 in Abilene,  Texas. Being the son of a ciruit preacher, Weldon spent his childhood years in West  Texas and  Oklahoma. He later entered the United States Air Force and became a Captain stationed in England. He faithfully served his country flying 67 missions over Germany. Upon his return from war he moved to Raymondville,  Texas and married his loving wife, Evelyn in 1948. There they began a lifetime of farming and were friends to many in the community. Weldon will always be remembered as such a kind, honest and gentle man who always wore a smile on his face. He had a disposition such that brought peace wherever he presented himself. Often Evelyn would call him "her angel." He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he now is in heaven with his best friend that he referred to as his "farming buddy" Kenneth Johnson, his son-in-law.

Weldon was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Palmer Haynes, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Haynes of Harlingen; 3 daughters, Randye (Dennis) Bastian of Burns, Wyoming, Vicki (Dwayne) Patterson of Corpus Christi, Debby  Johnson of Harlingen; 9 grandchildren, Patrick Donaho, Evyn (Bill) Cocke, Jessica Haynes, Bridget Bastian, Cole Bastian, Derek Patterson, Chad Patterson, Jesslyn Patterson, Kevin Johnson; 3 great grandchildren, Danielle Johnson, Chase Johnson, and Dallas Donaho; 8 sisters, Ann Wright, Carol (Ed) Gates, Gladys (John) Wiebelt, Louise Hall, Blanche (Bill) Crossman, Mary (Tom) Lewis, Esther Munson, Sarah (Lloyd) Bracksieck. He is also survived by his favorite pet dog "Odie".

A private and extended family military service was held on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Raymondville Cemetery. The Reverend Ed Gates officiated the ceremony along with a reading by Chad Patterson of a tribute to his grandfather for his service in World War II.

In lieu of flowers and for those desiring to do so, memorials are requested to be made to the Humane Society of Harlingen, 1106 Markowsky, Harlingen,  Texas 78550.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home in Raymondville.
