At the induction ceremony at Zeno‘s, many of Mr. Mercier‘s family members and friends were in attendance.

A son-in-law, Pat Stoner, was one of the speakers. Afterwards, many of Mr. Mercier‘s former players stopped by his home for a visit.

The ceremony was videotaped and played back for Mr. Mercier Saturday evening. According to another son-in-law, Randy MacCash, Mr. Mercier saw the tape one more time before he died on Thursday. "The Hall of Fame was speical for Bud," MacCash said. "He wanted to make it through that for sure. After that, I think Bud thought his life was complete. He was happy."

He also served as assistant athletic director during a portion of his career at UMR.

Mr. Mercier was born July 8, 1936, in St. Louis, to the late L.A. Mercier and Virginia Mercier, who survives and lives in Fredericktown, MO, where Mr. Mercier was a standout on the Fredericktown High School football team.

An injury cut short Mr. Mercier‘s football career at the University of Missouri Columbia. He earned a bachelor‘s degree from UMC in 1959 and a master‘s degree from Arkansas State University in 1966.

Mr. Mercier retired from coaching in 1996. Since then, he and his wife, the former Jane Burton, have maintained homes in Rolla during the summer and Harlingen, TX during the winter.
