SAN BENITO, TX — Otila Pena, 82, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Visitation hours will be held Monday, January 31, 2005 from 12p.m. to 9p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home Chapel with a holy rosary to be said at 7p.m.
Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in San Benito at 10a.m. Burial will follow in Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum in San Benito.

Reyes Cano Villarreal
LA SARA — Reyes Cano Villarreal, 85, of La Sara entered into rest Sunday January 30, 2005 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Reyes was born to Francisco and Gregoria Villarreal in General Bravo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mrs. Josefa O. Villarreal and daughter Ramona (Jose) Velazquez both of La Sara, and son Juan Manuel (Irene) Villarreal of Kingsville 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by six brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held today at Duddlesten Funeral Chapel with a holy rosary recited at 7p.m. Funeral will be held Tuesday 10a.m. at St Patrick’s Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.
Austin T. Partida
WILLARD, NC — Austin Tyler Partida, of 8110 NC Hwy 11, Willard, died Sunday, January 30, 2005.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Padgett Funeral Chapel. Rev. George Price, Jr. and Rev. Frank Moss will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
He is survived by his mother, Amanda Partida of Willard and his father, Phillip Monson of Albertson; maternal grandparents, Danny and Elizabeth Lanier of Wallace and Richard and Thania Partida of Texas; maternal great grandmothers, Faye Lambert of Surf City and Modesta Partida of Texas and his bestest friend, Kelsi Pacheco.
Austin was born January 15, 2002 in Duplin County. He attended Pin Hook Church.
Casketbearers will be Luke West, Kevin Williams, Woody James and Randall Jones.
The family will receive from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace, N.C. and at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Lanier, 240 Sawyer Lane, Wallace, other times.
Edward L. Law
HARLINGEN, TX — Edward Leslie Law entered into rest on Saturday morning, January 29, 2005 at his residence in Harlingen. He was 74 years young. He was born in Audubon, Iowa and moved to Des Moines and resided there most of his life until moving to Texas in 1997.
Edward retired in the early 90‘s as owner/operator of Law Automotive. He was a Life Member of the Elk‘s Lodge # 98 of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. He also was very active in the Village Association where he resided here in Harlingen. His many activities during his lifetime included fishing, camping, card playing, horseshoes and traveling to visit family and friends. He was a caring person, always helping other people with various tasks, big or small.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Shirley and his oldest son, Mark Edward.
Survivors include his two daughters, Lynda of Colorado and Tracy of California; two sons, Steven of Des Moines and Craig of Colorado. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will not be held. The family wishes that you attend the church of your choice and pray for God‘s Blessings.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest making a charitable contribution to the Sandi Jo Funk Hospice Program, Valley Baptist Medical Center, P.O. Drawer 2588, Harlingen, Texas, 78551 or a favorite charity of your choice, in memory of Edward Law.

HARLINGEN, TX — Maria Teresa Garcia, 72, of Harlingen, TX passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center on January 29, 2005.
Survivors include the following: 1 daughter, Patricia (Ruben Cisneros) Garcia of Harlingen, TX; 2 sisters, Olga (Beto) Mares of Ohio, Maria (Rogelio) Rodriguez of Harlingen, TX; 2 brothers, Homer Alba of California, Pablo Gutierrez of Harlingen, TX; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by husband, Federico Garcia; mother, Teresa Gutierrez; brother, Aurelio Castro.

Mildred S. Baileys
HARLINGEN, TX — Mildred S. Baileys, 87, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was born August 26, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois.
Mildred moved with her husband, Major Ronald W. Baileys from Chicago to Harlingen in 1977. She was a housewife, dedicated volunteer at Travis School and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church.
She will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Leah Herkel and Deborah Ewert; her son-in-law, Keith Ewert and her friends.

Otila M. Pena
SAN BENITO, TX — Otila M. Pena, 82, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center on Sunday, January 30, 2005. She was born February 2, 1922 in Odem, Texas. Mrs. Pena had lived in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and San Benito, Texas for number of years. She had been employed as a nurse‘s aid at Northwest Community Hospital and was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Pena was preceded in death by her husband, Enrique Pena, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Aurelio) Quiroga, Enrique (Lynn) Pena, Jr., Peter Pena, Blanca (Gustavo) Rodriguez, Joe (Debby) Pena and Otila "Tillie" (Richard) Gonzalez; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at St. Benedict‘s Catholic Church in San Benito at 10 a.m. with Father Luna officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be David Pena, Aurelio Quiroga, Sr., Aurelio Quiroga, Jr., Richard Gonzalez, Ernie Gavina and Richie Gavina.

Alberto Banda
SAN BENITO, TX – Alberto Banda, 79, devoted husband of 60 years, loving father and grandfather went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 31, 2005 at his residence, an honest, humble, hardworking man, with a love for conjunto music, he saw only the best in people and accepted everyone unconditionally. He brought joy and great pride to his family and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife: Angelita Sanchez Banda; 5-sons: Vicente (Maria) Banda, Jose Guadalupe (Maria Del Carmen) Banda, Jorge Alberto (Diana) Banda, Jesus (Dolores) Banda, and Antonio Banda; 5 daughters: Juana (Arturo) Hinojosa, Enedina (Rudy) Bush, Graciela (Phillip) Lopez, Enedelia (Jesus) Rodriguez and Adriana (Joe) Lopez; and son in law, Jose Luis Govea; one brother, Domingo Banda; 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and many good friends.
He is preceded in death by parents, Vicente and Eudelia Banda; daughter, Maria Luisa Govea; brothers and sister, Juan Banda, Teodoro Banda and Antonia Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held today Wednesday, February 2, 2005 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. and Visitation will continue Thursday, February 3, 2005 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services will begin 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2005 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Adeline B. Steuck
HARLINGEN, TX — Adeline Belle Steuck, the daughter of William and Eunice (Cooper) Signall, was born November 7, 1934 in Gray, Iowa. She moved with her family to the Royal, Iowa area, where she attended school and graduated from Royal High School. On June 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Steuck in Sutherland, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in San Antonio, Texas, the couple returned to Iowa and made their home in Iowa City for 20 years. They lived in Spirit Lake for 7 years, before moving to Harlingen, Texas in 1977. While in Harlingen, the couple operated Ken‘s Paint and Body Shop and Adeline worked in the Lighthouse as a sales person for light fixtures and fans.
The couple was blessed with a son, Robert "Robby" born in 1964 and who passed away on August 12, 2001 in a car accident in Texas. Adeline passed away on Monday, January 10, 2005 at the Angel Care Hospice in Harlingen, reaching the age of 70 years, 2 months and 3 days. Adeline was a very compassionate and caring person.
Adeline leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Ken Steuck of Harlingen, Texas; a brother, Robert and his wife, Peg Signall of Dallas, Texas; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Lorraine and Gail Boardman and Kary and Roger Gopperton all of Sutherland, Iowa; also nieces and nephews and many friends both in Iowa and in Texas.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert "Robby"; her parents, Bill and Eunice Signall and her husbands‘ parents, Alfred and Louise Steuck.
Funeral services for Adeline B. Steuck, of Harlingen, Texas and formerly of the Sutherland and Royal, Iowa area, were held on Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 10:30 A.M. from the Bethel Lutheran Church, Sutherland, Iowa with the Rev. Leroy Riemer, officiating. Burial was in the Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland, Iowa.

Lloyd Wheelus
HARLINGEN, TX — Lloyd Wheelus, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 31, 2005. Lloyd was born March 25, 1911, in Junction City, LA to his parents, John and Mattie Wheelus.
As a longtime resident of Santa Rosa, Texas, Lloyd was a successful farmer and employee of Pacific Produce. He was devoted to his faith and served in many capacities touching lives as a deacon, ordained in 1935, and member of Santa Rosa First Baptist Church and Harlingen First Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Santa Rosa School Board for 24 years and also served on the Valley Baptist Hospital Board for 13 years when it was located on F Street in Harlingen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Myrtle Goss Wheelus; daughter, Margaret Ann Moorman, daughter, LaRue Elliff and husband, Larry; son, Gary Wheelus and wife, Kathy; brother, Bush Wheelus; and sister, Floye Thorp. He is survived by 6 grandchildren and spouses, Teresa and Ron Coleman, Randy and Michelle Moorman, Laura and Bill Mathis, Joe Elliff, Bill and Merrillee Elliff, and Robin and Monica Wheelus; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bill Thurman and Jimmy Wheelus; sister, Syble Rhea; son-in-law, Bob Moorman; and grandson, Ronald Moorman.
Lloyd and Myrtle have enjoyed their last 15 years at Golden Palms Retirement Center. The family desires to acknowledge the loving providers who gave dedicated and professional care to Lloyd and Dr. Darryl White and the staff at the Family Practice Residency.
Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
A celebration of Lloyd‘s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Harlingen, Thursday, February 3, 2005, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Pat Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Lloyd‘s grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the Deacons and their wives of the First Baptist Church serving as Honorary Pallbearers.

Donald E. McCann
HARLINGEN, TX — Donald Everett McCann, 89, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. Donald was born on July 30, 1915 in Raymond, Iowa to Clarence and Irma McCann.
Donald married Evalena Danielsen on January 5, 1946 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Donald was a distribution manager for Viking Pump Company in Cedar Falls, Iowa; having retired in 1979; and moved to Harlingen in 1983. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Harlingen; he was a member of the US Army, serving during World War II; he enjoyed Square Dancing and Ballroom Dancing; and he was a member of the Harlingen Elks Lodge #1889.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Evalena McCann of Harlingen; nephew, Rick Thuesen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister-in-law, Vivian Thuesen of Waterloo, IA; and many friends.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Grace Lutheran Church in Harlingen with Reverend Kathryn Cox officiating.
