Juan Raul Sanchez

LA FERIA — Juan Raul Sanchez 11 passed away on Friday March 4, 2005 at McAllen Medical Center, he will be dearly missed by his family friends and all whose lives he touched. Juan was currently in rolled at Dominguez Elementary of La Feria and enjoyed spending lots of time with his teachers and his friends at school.

He is preceded in death by his father Juan Jesus Sanchez, one sister Mary Jane Sanchez and one brother Michael Sanchez.

Juan is survived by his loving mother Odelia Sanchez of La Feria step father Jesus Jose Ontiveros of La Feria Four sisters Joanna (Guillermo) Hernandez Jr. of Harlingen, Elizabeth (Hector) Gutierrez , Claricia Sanchez of La Feria, Denise Ontiveros of La Feria and one brother Andrew Ontiveros of La Feria.

Visitation will be held Today Sunday March 6, 2005 from 10 a.m. till 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of La Feria.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday March 7, 2005 departing Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of Palms of La Feria at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of La Feria. Burial will follow at La Capilla Cemetery of La Feria.

All funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of La Feria,  Texas.

Amalia  Jackson Becerra

SAN BENITO — Amalia  Jackson Becerra, 86, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 4, 2005 at Harlingen Medical Center. Amalia was born on October 31, 1918 in La Joya,  Texas to Ruperto and Rita Jackson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ramiro Becerra, Sr. of San Benito. Four sons: Ramiro (Maria) Becerra, Jr. of San Benito, Jose R. (Dora) Becerra of San Benito, Rodolfo (Juanita) Becerra of Combes, TX, and Rolando (Adalia) Becerra of San Benito; 14 grandchildren: David Becerra, Maricela Cervantes, Ricardo Becerra, Maggie Rivera, Rolando Becerra Jr. Gloria Becerra, Adrian Becerra, Gilberto Becerra, Betty Becerra, and Jesse Becerra. 19 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Amalia was a wonderful loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ricardo, Rolando, Jr., Daniel, Jose R. Jr., Rodolfo, Jr. and Gilbert Becerra. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters who she loved as Daughters: Maricela Cervantes, Maggie Rivera, Rita Villareal, Gloria Becerra, and Betty Becerra.

Mrs. Becerra will be having visitation from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. in the South Chapel. Her funeral mass is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Thomae-Garza Funeral Home of San Benito.

Saturnino Reyes

HARLINGEN — Saturnino Reyes 79 passed away on Friday March 4, 2005 at the Weslaco Rehabilitation Center, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Saturnino devoted his life to his wife children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also had a great love for his business in landscaping.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years of marriage Norberta Reyes of Lyford, seven children Leonor (Jose) Gaytan of Miami, Florida, Rosa M. (Tony) Gonzalez of Harlingen, Angelica Reyes of Los Fresnos, Guadalupe (Eva) Reyes of Monterrey, Mexico, San Juana (Alejandro) Olvera of Harlingen, Carlos (Leticia) Reyes of Matamoros, Mexico, Martin (Margie) Reyes of Lyford, twenty eight grandchildren and fifty great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today Sunday March 6th 2005 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday March 7, 2005 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. at Rudy Garza Funeral Home Chapel of Peace.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 8, 2005 at Rudy Garza Funeral Home Chapel of Peace at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park of La Feria,  Texas.

Pall bears will be Carlos Reyes, Martin Reyes, Tony Gonzalez, Danny Gonzalez, Valentine Olvera, and Omar Olvera.

All Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen,  Texas.

Leslie D. Larson

HARLINGEN — Leslie D. Larson, 82, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was born December 27, 1922 in Galva, Illinois to Leslie Lawrence Larson and Frances Richter Larson. Leslie married LaVaughn Krapfl August 15, 1941 in Chillicothe, MO and after their marriage, they moved to  Washington, D.C. to work. He had been a resident of Harlingen for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, LaVaughn Larson of Harlingen; children, Suzanne (Jim) Long of Lansing, IL and Leslie L. (Earlene) Larson of Westlake, OH; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and his sister, Carol (Wyman) Martin of Hendersonville, NC.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at Palm Garden’s Rec. Hall at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kathryn Cox officiating.

For those desiring to do so memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Joann Scavo (Hammack) Brooke

Joann Scavo (Hammack) Brooke, 69, passed away Friday March 4, 2005 at her residence in South Padre Island to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Joann was born November 19, 1935 in Denver, CO. to William Vincent Scavo and Hilda Simoni Scavo.

Joann moved to South Padre Island in May of 1996 and bought the popular "Lost Galleon" seafood restaurant in July of 1996.

She was a flight attendant for United Air Lines in the 1950’s, owned, operated and started several businesses in the St. Louis, MO area, where she lived most of her adult life before moving to South Padre Island.

She is survived by four children and five grandchildren; Constance (Rueben) Casas of Mohave Valley, AZ, Rev. Tony (Andrea) Hammack, Nate,  Taylor and Brooke of Marble Hill, MO; Julie (Mark) Willman, Kalee and Dane of Wentzville, MO; T.J. Brooke of Columbia, MO.

She is survived by her sister, Constance (Hank) Stehle of Castle Rock, CO and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Life Memorial Service for Joann will be held at Louie’s Backyard Upstairs Local Bar, 5 p.m., Sautrday, March 12, 2005

Joann will be best remembered as someone who loved people, reading and one who loved to travel.

The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.

Paula Rincon

MERCEDES, TX — Paula Rincon, 81, passed away Sunday evening at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rogelio Rincon in 1999; and a brother, Bernabe Mascorro in 1982 and is survived by three sons, Rodolfo Rincon of Harlingen, Ruben Rincon of Mercedes, Roberto Rincon of Houston; two daughters,, Rosa Linda Ramirez of Pasadena, TX, Rebeca Fernandez of Mercedes. Also surviving are three brothers, Cristobal Mascorro, Ruben Mascorro both of Holland, MI, Florentino Mascorro of Ft. Wayne, IN; three sisters, Concepcion Mascorro, Petra Guerrero both of Mercedes, Cleotilde Beltran of Holland, MI; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery also in Mercedes.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Nona Stanley

BIG SPRING, TX — Nona La Verne (Broyles) Stanley, 69, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham minister of 14th and Main Church of Christ, officiating. A private family interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Nona‘s home, 4900 Wasson Road.

She was born on February 6, 1936, in Rio Hondo,  Texas and married Alfred J. Stanley on May 4, 1956 in Harlingen,  Texas. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1993.

Nona had worked for the  Texas Veterens Commission at the V.A. Medical Center from 1982 until she retired in August of 2003. She enjoyed antiqueing, Skip-Bo, dominoes and traveling with friends. During her marriage to Alfred, she had lived in Plattsburg, New York; Omaha, Nebraska; Las Vegas, Nevada; Harlingen,  Texas and Okinawa, Japan.

She was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ and loved her church family and friends.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, D. F. and La Rhonda Stanley and A. J. and Sherrie Stanley all of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty L. and Wesley Thixton of Big Spring; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Malcolm Broyles of Pasadena and Sidney and Linda Broyles of Harlingen; seven grandchildren, Clay Thixton and wife, Aubrey, Kristen Nichols and husband, John Paul Nichols, Clint Stanley, Charlene Stanley, Kaylon Stanley, Kay’C Stanley and Kaleb Stanley all of Big Spring; two great grandchildren, Tucker Thixton and Koby Nichols both of Big Spring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Eura (Stambaugh) Broyles; one brother, Byron Broyles and one sister-in-law, Maxie Broyles.

The family suggests memorials to Sunnyside Children‘s Home, P. O. Box 1373, San Benito,  Texas 78586.

Jose Yanez

HARLINGEN, TX — Jose R. Yanez, 81, entered the Lord‘s Heavenly Kingdom March 6, 2005 at Harlingen Medical Center due to a lengthy illness. He was a lifetime resident of Harlingen and worked for Valley Baptist Medical Center for 15 years.

Jose served his country December 28, 1942 during World War II with an honorable discharge from the Army of the United States November 10, 1945. He was awarded a purple heart for his courage and valor at war among various medals.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dolores Rios Yanez of Harlingen; 2 daughters: Gloria (Steven) Casiano of C.C.,  Texas, Oralia Yanez of Salinas, CA; 5 sons, Reynaldo (Lupita) Yanez, Benny (Maria R.) Yanez, Fernando Yanez all of Harlingen, Angel (Teresa) Yanez of Salinas, CA, Noe (Rosie) Yanez of San Antonio, TX; 2 sisters, Teresa Hernandez of Harlingen and Margarita Perez of Santa Maria, CA; 1 brother, Miguel Yanez of Salinas, CA.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin today, March 8, 2005 at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service to begin at 7 p.m. tonight. Chapel services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Trinity at Harrison Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Las Rusias Cemetery with full military honor under the auspices of American Legion Post 205 and V.F.W. Post 2410.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trinity at Harrison Funeral Home, 1002 East Harrison Ave., Harlingen,  Texas 78550.

Shenoah M. Reyna

MERCEDES, TX — Shenoah Michael Reyna, 4 months old, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Driscoll Children‘s Hospital in Corpus Christi,  Texas.

He is survived by his mother: Christy Presas of Mercedes,  Texas; Sister: Dalia Danielle Reyna of Mercedes; Maternal Grandparents: Dalia and Raul Vela of Mercedes,  Texas; Paternal Grandfather: Guadalupe Presas Jr. of Mercedes; Paternal Great-grandmother: Maria Elisa Presas of Mercedes,  Texas; Uncles and Aunts: Rene and Ruby Presas of Mercedes,  Texas, Steven and Veronica Perez of Mercedes,  Texas, Shevawn Chacon, Alma and Roy Rivera of Mercedes,  Texas.

Shenoah is preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Guadalupe C. Reyna, Maclovia A. Reyna; and Great-Aunt: Mercedes Reyna; Great-grandfather: Guadalupe Presas Sr.

Visitation hours will be today, Tuesday, March 8, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. To 9:00 p.m. at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace. A rosary will be prayed tonight at 7:00p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 9, 2005. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Deacon Roberto Cantu officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Mercedes,  Texas. Pallbearers are: Steven Perez and Rene Ismael Presas.

The four months that Shenoah spent with us brought great love and joy in our lives. His presence, love, and laughter will be dearly missed.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen.

Camila G. Saldivar

SANTA MARIA — Camila G. Saldivar 86, entered the Lord’s Heavenly Kingdom Saturday March 5, 2005 at her residence surrounded by the loving embrace of her family. She was a devout catholic member of St. Margaret Ann Catholic Church in Santa Maria. She was also a member of the church choir and Guadalupanas Society.

Camila is preceded in death by her husband Victor and a son Raciel Saldivar.

She is survived by her children: Ramon (Juanita) Saldivar of La Paloma, Roberto Saldivar of Santa Maria, Rafael (La Valle) Saldivar of Houston, Juan Victor Saldivar of Houston, Irma Garza (Israel) of Houston, Hilda (Frank) Canas of Los Indios, Minerva (Robert) De La Portillo of Houston. Also Survived by 21 Grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, sister: Silveria

Fuentes of Santa Maria, Brothers and sister’s-in-law: Trina Longoria, Ramon Saldivar, Nazario Saldivar, Santos and Deacon Salvador Saldivar, Guadalupe and Maria Garcia.

Visitation will begin today at 1 P.M. until 9 P.M. at Trinity at Harrison Funeral Home with prayer of the Holy Rosary at 7 P.M. tonight. Visitation will continue Tuesday at 9 A.M. at her residence in Santa Maria until departure for a 1P.M. Mass of Christian burial at St. Margaret Ann Catholic Church, Santa Maria. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Saldivar family would like to extend a very special Thank You, to the  Texas Visiting Nurse Service of Harlingen and Odyssey Health Care of Brownsville for the professional care tended to their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

Etta Violet Abbott

HARLINGEN — Etta Violet Abbott, 85, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

She was born in Corpus Christi,  Texas on April 27, 1919, to James Phillip Brown and Minnie Lee Brown.

Mrs. Abbott was the owner of Windsor Package Store in Corpus Christi and worked for Central Power and Light Co. for 10 years. She was a member of the Golden Kilowatt Club.

Mrs. Abbott moved to Harlingen in 1984 and was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Thomas Patrick Abbott.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marge Woodul of Ruidosa, New Mexico and Mary Gantner of El Paso,  Texas; niece, Linda Lindsay of San Marcos,  Texas; nephew, Ted Hunt of Taft,  Texas and a number of great nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2005 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2005 with the Rev. Judy Sessions officiating. Entombment will be in Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi,  Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Building Fund in Harlingen,  Texas.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
