Efrain Pena, Sr.

HARLINGEN, TX — Efrain Pena, Sr., 69, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at his residence. Efrain Pena was a man who loved God with all his heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Victorino and Caolina Pena; and his brothers, Josue, Teofilo and Horacio Pena.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Adelfina Pena of Harlingen; his three loving daughters, Estela (Peter) Pinon, Noemi (Fred) Rivera, Elia Araujo all of Harlingen; his four sons, Efrain (Maribel) Pena, Jr. of Victoria, TX, Ezequiel Pena of Austin, TX, Josue Pena of Harlingen and Eleazar (Lisa) Pena of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson; one sister, Maria (Fortunato) Cavazos; one brother, Samuel (Esther) Pena both of Weslaco, TX; sisters-in-law, Julia Pena of Weslaco, TX Elva Pena of Pharr, TX; and his aunt, Elvira Pena of Weslaco, TX.

Visitation will be held today, March 22, 2005 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with a Prayer service to be held at 7:00 PM.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM funeral service at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church with Pastor Peter Pinon officiating Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park in Harlingen, TX.

Pallbearers will be Efrain Pena, Jr., Eleazar Pena, Peter Efrain Pinon, Fernando Arujo, Jaime Cavazos and Mark Anthony Pena. Honorary pallbearers will be Peter Pinon and Mike Escamilla. Mr. Pena was a loving and caring man.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen.

Olivia M. Corkill

FRISCO/SAN BENITO, TX — Olivia M. Corkill, 91, passed away on March 20, 2005 in Victoria Garden Nursing Home in Frisco,  Texas.

Olivia was born on January 30, 1914 to Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Munguia.

She married Frank Corkill and lived in San Benito for 89 years before moving to San Antonio with her daughter, Irma and son-in-law, Raul in 2002.

Mrs. Corkill relocated to Frisco,  Texas with Irma and Raul in 2004 and was a resident of Victoria Gardens Nursing Home for the last months of her life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Corkill in 1973; three brothers and five sisters; grandson, Eddie Tamez in 1980; her son, Ramiro Corkill in 1995; and step-sons, Frank and Luis Corkill.

Mrs. Corkill is survived by her two sons, Richard Corkill of Harlingen and Ruben Corkill of  Oklahoma; two daughters, Olga Rodriguez of San Benito and Irma Tamez of Dallas; four step-children, Ofelia Sanchez of San Benito, Elvira Guerra of San Benito, Minerva Vasquez of California and Viola Gonzalez of California; 26 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Thomae Garza Funeral Home Chapel with Funeral Services to be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Our Lady Queen of the Universe in San Benito. Interment will follow to Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae Garza Funeral Home, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito,  Texas. 399-1331.

Herschel Virgil Kennedy

WESLACO, TX — Herschel Virgil Kennedy, born August 10, 1921 to Herschel V. Sr. and Helen Rebecca Kennedy, entered into eternal rest on March 19, 2005.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, March 22, 2005 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.

Graveside services and interment will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Donna City Cemetery in Donna.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.

John Alexander

HARLINGEN, TX — After a long and valiant struggle with cancer, John Lawrence (Larry) Alexander departed this life to join his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 24, 2005. Larry was born on December 7, 1945 in Breckenridge, TX to James Harvey and Mary Julia Alexander.

He graduated from Harlingen High School and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the  Vietnam War. Larry earned a bachelor‘s degree from Angelo State University and a master‘s from the University of  Texas Austin. He was employed as a Vice President of Hygeia Dairy Company, and later as the program chair for the Computer Science and Technology Department at TSTC. Larry was an avid golfer and a dedicated member of Life Begins at 40.

Larry is preceded in death by his father, James H. Alexander; his mother, Mary Alexander; and a baby sister, Mary Jean Alexander.

He is survived by his wife, Lori; his two sons, Tyler and Clinton Alexander; one step-son, Reagan Chappell; and his daughter, Suzanna. He is also survived by one brother, James H. (Pat) Alexander, Jr.; and two nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Harlingen.

For those desiring to do so, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Victoria Rodriguez

MERCEDES, TX — Victoria Rodriguez, 59, a lifetime resident of Mercedes passed away on March 24, 2005 in Georgetown,  Texas. She was born November 8, 1945 to Hermejildo Rodriguez and Juanita Garcia Rodriguez in Mercedes,  Texas.

She is survived by her loving family: One Son: Jose (Patricia) Alvarez of La Blanca,  Texas; Five Daughters: Trinidad Rodriguez of Georgetown,  Texas, Elizabeth (Robert Moreno) Rodriguez of Georgetown,  Texas, Maridsa (Rutilo Renteria) Maganas of Georgetown,  Texas, Betty Alvarez of Georgetown,  Texas, Blanca Estella Alvarez of Mercedes,  Texas; 22 Grandchildren, 9 Great-grandchildren; Three Sisters, Five Brothers, Several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. To 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday, March 27, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. To 9:00 p.m., Rosaries will be held both nights at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 28, 2005. A 10 a.m. Chapel Service will be held at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace. Interment will then follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco, TX.

Victoria was a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is dearly loved and missed by all those who knew her.

Evangelina Villa

MERCEDES, TX — Evangelina "Vangie" Villa, 64, passed away Friday at Weslaco Nursing Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raul Villa, Sr. in 1970; her mother, Victoria Garcia in 1996; two brothers, Jose Francisco Mata in 1979 and Jaime Marin in 2000; and is survived by three sons, Raul Villa, Jr. of Mercedes, Noel (Frances) Villa of Weslaco, Javier (Elizabeth) Villa of Weslaco; five brothers, Cruz (Elodia) Mata of Rochelle, IL, Leonel (Maria) Mata of Dundee, IL, Eddie (Rose) Mata of Weslaco, Robert (Anna) Mata of San Juan, Rene Zamora of Mercedes; also surviving are two sisters, Victoria (Gary) Pitman of Hayward, CA, Mary (Bill) Daniels of Auburn, AL; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with a service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, interment will follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Lola M. Campbell

GRAIN VALLEY, MO — Lola Marie Campbell, 82, of Grain Valley, Missouri, formerly from Harlingen passed away on Tuesday, March 22 2005 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Heartland Church, Blue Springs, MO; burial is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2005 in Restlawn Memorial Park, La Feria, TX.

In lieu of flowers, Lola has requested donations be made to the Heartland Church Building Fund, 400 SW Lake Village Blvd., Blue Springs, MO 64014.

Rena Jo Zinn

HARLINGEN, TX — Rena Jo Zinn, 69, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Rena was born on November 26, 1935 in Mercedes,  Texas to Abe and Rosa Baum. She was a longtime resident of the Valley and had lived in the Harlingen area for many years where she and her family owned and operated Baum‘s Men’s Wear.

Rena was active with many organizations and memberships from the Jaycee‘s, where she was the State Jaycette of the Year three years in a row; Beta Sigma Phi - Order of the Rose; Zonta Club; Dance Club; Life Begins at 40 at Harlingen Country Club; Temple Beth Sisterhood; Harlingen Beef Club; and worked many years with the Rio Grand Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes.

She is survived by her husband, Herschel Zinn; daughters, Sharon Zinn Rudesal and husband, Les and Stephanie Zinn; granddaughters, Adrian  Johnson and husband, Nick, Charlotte Rudesal, Stescha Burks, and Sonny Meyers; sister, Zetta Fair; nephews, David Fair and wife, Doris, Larry Fair, Harvey and Sharon Zinn, Elias and Janis Zinn, Alan and Barbara Zinn, Michael and Robin Leff; niece, Pamela and Alan Reingold; sisters-in-law, Harriett Zinn, Frances Leff and husband, Charles and Esther Kelter.

Visitation hours will be held from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2005 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Graveside services only will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park, 2 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2005. Pallbearers will be Burt Keyes, Robert Lytol, Steve Hollon, Charles Reininger, Don Moskal, Lonnie Davis, and Larry Warner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Cason and Paul Gordon, Jeff Kellogg, Dick Welch and Kellogg Motors.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Bruce Robert Campbell

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Bruce Robert Campbell, was born June 25, 1958 in Harlingen,  Texas. He attended Southwest  Texas State University in San Marcos where he met and married Sheri Ann Beane, the mother of his children who was also killed in the automobile accident. Bruce was a Real Estate Broker in Austin until he moved to Raymondville and became active in the family ranch, Sal Del Rey. He was affliliated for a short time with S.R. Campbell Properties in Harlingen. Bruce had extensive farming interests at the time of his demise. He received several awards for his farming practices from the Government Agriculture Department, and he was manager of the reforestation of the Sal Del Ray Preserve. He served as first counselor in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Raymondville under Branch President Steve Marshal.

Bruce had many interests and hobbies. He loved scuba diving, boating, fishing, dancing, collecting antique guns, reading, farming, and his 5 dogs.

Bruce will be remembered most for his sensitive and caring heart. He loved and cherished his family and friends above all else. He would drop anything to help a friend.

He is preceded in death by his father, Byron Van Sandt Campbell and nephew, Byron Smith of WA.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Meri Christan Campbell and Milena Kailen Campbell both of Austin. His mother, Mrs. Elouise Cheney Campbell; his sisters, Gael Campbell Smith of Seattle, WA and Jenny Lynn Wiggins of Bountiful, Utah; his brother, Scot Campbell and sister-in-law, Caroline Campbell of Harlingen, aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The viewing was held at the Raymondville Duddlesten Mortuary with the family present Monday 28th from 3-5 p.m.

The funeral will be held at the Raymondville Memorial Cemetery Tuesday 29th at 4:30.

Pallbearers include: Kevin Campbell, Johnny Gorena, Matt Theiss, Reagan Florence, Russell Wofford, Randy Gregory, Eddie Hess, Chuey Rodriguez, Joe Rodriguez, Reuben Rodriguez, Seth Breazeale, Dale Murden, Joe Wetegrove and Ken Griffiths. Honorary pallbearers are, Michael Boylan of Houston and Dr. Alan Spence of Raymondville.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Florentina L. Saldivar

HARLINGEN, TX — Florentina L. Saldivar, 82, entered into eternal rest Monday, March 28, 2005 at her residence surrounded by her family‘s loving embrace.

She is preceded in death by daughter, Guadalupe Flores; son, Mario Lopez; and son-in-law, Jose Zuniga.

Survivors include one son, Domitilo (Carmela) Lopez of Matamoros; Daughters: Elvira (Jorge) Ortiz, Teresa (Jose+) Zuniga, Eugenia (Eladio) Claveros all of Harlingen, Julia Juarez of Weslaco, TX, Rosa Lopez of Gilroy, CA, Esmeralda (Hector) Iboa of Morgan Hill, CA, Maria Perez of Gilroy, CA; 42 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; sisters, Petra Morales, Victoria Lopes, Lus Galarza, Pola Lopes; brothers, Elodio Lopes and Marcial Lopes.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2005 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with prayer of the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass of Christian burial is tentatively set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Entombment will follow to Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum..

Honored to be pallbearers will be grandsons: Jose Zuniga, Jr., Juan Carlos Zuniga, Manuel Flores, Marcos Flores, Danny Flores, Marky Rodriguez.

All arrangements are under the direction of Trinity at Harrison Funeral Home. 1002 E. Harrison Harlingen, TX.

Cayetana Hernandez

HARLINGEN, TX — Cayetana Hernandez, 81, of Harlingen passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2005.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gonzalo Hernandez; Two sons: Pedro Hernandez and Jesus Hernandez; Two daughters: Hermelinda Mares and Rosa Vargas. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren as well as 33 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 29, 2005 from 1 - 9 p.m. at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m .

Funeral service is attentively scheduled for 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church with internment to follow at Ashland Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home.

Hector Cascos

BROWNSVILLE, TX — Mr. Hector Cascos, 83, passed away March 27, 2005 at Valley Regional Medical Center. Originally born and raised in Mexico City, he had spent the last 55 years of his life in Brownsville and considered Brownsivlle his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos H. Cascos and Ernestina M. Cascos; his sister, Laura; and brother, Sergio.

He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Gloria G. Cascos; his sons, Carlos (Candi), Hector (Lucille), Jaime; a daughter, Gloria (Gilberto) Rico; his grandchildren, Casandra, Andrea, Hafid, Havannah, Alexa, Alessandra, Gilberto and Andres. He is also survived by his brother, Hugo Cascos; a sister, Elena Tilley, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cascos owned and operated H. Cascos & Company, which provided bookeeping and tax services. In addition, he assisted many non-residents in obtaining legal residency and U.S. Citizenship for over 30 years.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2005, with a Mass beginning at 7 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 602 E. Elizabeth, Brownsville,  Texas 78520.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Way of Southern Cameron County, P.O. Box 511, Brownsville,  Texas 78552-0511.

The family of Mr. Cascos would like to thank Valley Regional Medical Center‘s ICU staff and attending physicians, Drs. Juan Martinez, Ahmad Karkoutly, Danilo Asase, Eduardo Kofman, Jamil Madi, Oscar Maldonado, Raymundo Matar and Rosell Pettorino.

A special thanks to Father Armand Mathew, to all our friends and extended family for their support and prayers.
