Maria C. Alvarez

HARLINGEN, TX — Maria Cecilia R. Alvarez, 50, passed away Monday April 18, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

She is survived by her husband, Marcelo Alvarez of Harlingen; a son, Marcelo Alvarez, Jr. of Harlingen; two daughters, Vianey A. Hunter of Los Fresnos, Adelaida Alvarez of Harlingen; three brothers, Jesus Rodriguez, Rigoberto Rodriguez both of Reynosa, Juan Rodriguez of Houston; two sisters, Veronica Rodriguez of Laredo, Dinora R. Losoya of Midland, TX; also surviving are five grandchildren.

Visitation will take place Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Funeral Chapel at Harrison.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen. Interment will follow at El Muerto Cemetery also in Harlingen.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel at Harrison in Harlingen.

Jose Maria Flores, Sr.

SANTA ROSA — Jose Maria Flores, Sr., 74, entered into rest on Monday at Harlingen Medical Center. Mr. Flores was a lifelong resident of Santa Rosa. He retired from the La Feria I.S.D. as a maintenance man and bus driver after 15 years of loyal service to WB Green Junior High School.

Mr. Flores was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Guadalupe Flores; son, Daniel Flores; and daughter, Maria Christina Flores.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Maria Isabel Flores of Santa Rosa, TX; children, Juan Jose (Josie) Flores of Santa Rosa, TX, Mario Alberto Flores, Sr. of Santa Rosa, TX, Jesus Enrique (Eva) Flores of Bluetown, TX, Guadalupe Amparo (Mike) Robles of Harlingen, TX, Maria del Carmen (Oscar) Fuentes of Santa Maria, TX, Jose Maria (Diana) Flores, Jr., of Richmond, MI, Noel (Norma) Flores of Santa Rosa, TX; brothers, Gumeciendo (Elma) Flores of Odessa, TX, Fidel (Olga) Flores of Harlingen, TX, Benito Flores of Indiana, Martin Flores of Iowa, Jesus Flores, Jr. of Iowa; step-daughter, Maria Elvia Valdez of Monterrey, MX; and step-son, Efrain Andrade of Monterrey, MX; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, April 19, 2005 from 1 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of Peace in La Feria with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Catholic funeral service at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria, TX. Interment will follow at Heavenly Grace Cemetery in La Feria, TX.

Pallbearers will be Esequiel Flores, Mario Alberto Flores, Jr., Oscar Fuentes, Jr., Steven Andrew Flores, Michael Robles and Noel Flores, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Omar Flores, Romeo Fuentes and Adrian Flores.

Alan J. Fox

KERRVILLE, TX — Alan Jensen Fox, 75, died peacefully at his home in Kerrville, TX on Monday, April 18, 2005. Alan was born September 4, 1929 in Raymondville, TX where he lived until retiring and moving to Kerrville, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gorman and Eva Fox; and his sister, Barbra Jo Fish.

Alan is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Charlie Fox-Simpson and son-in-law, Richard Simpson of Horseshoe Bay,  Texas. Additional survivors include several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Services will be held Friday, April 22, 2005 at 4 p.m. at St. Christopher‘s Episcopal Church in Bandera, TX. Burial will follow in the St. Christopher‘s Episcopal Cemetery, Bandera, TX.

Pallbearers will be Blake Stewart, Bob Ed Stewart, Mike Boyle, Norman Koger, Joe Herod and Dick Simpson

Honorary pallbearers will be Marshal Pickard, Lee Roy Ross, Gene Hiatt, F.G. Page and Jim Shafer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia Society or the First United Methodist Church in Raymondville.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at Vista Home Care & Hospice, Dr. Wilson, the staff on the Oncology floor at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen and Dr. Todd Shenkenberg.

Alejandro (Alex) D. Cantu

LOS INDIOS/BOSSIER CITY, LA — Alejandro (Alex) Domingo Cantu, 65, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at his home in Lousiana. Mr Cantu was born and raised in Los Indios, he later moved to California and finally moved to  Louisiana.

Survivors include his parents, Alfredo and Clara Cantu of Los Indios; his wife, Estella Cantu; and a daughter, Selina Cantu both of Bossier City, LA.

From a previous marriage he had 3 sons and 2 daughters which reside in California: Alejandro Cantu Jr., Juan and Jose Cantu, Josefina Elizabeth Tijerina and Maria Clara Cantu. Also 2 step children: Richard and Marty Randall. He has one brother, Claudio A. Cantu and three sisters, Gloria Sanchez, Selina Cantu and Emmelina Blanco.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2005 from 1p.m. to 9 p.m. with prayer of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of christian burial will be held Thursday, April 21, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict‘s Catholic Church. Burial will follow to Cantu-Gomez Cemetery.

Eudelia L. Dominguez

MERCEDES, TX — Eudelia "Lela" Dominguez, 59, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2005 at her residence.

She had been employed by the Hidalgo County Head Start Program for 33 years.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will follow at Dominguez Cemetery in Relampago.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Maria C. Alvarez

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen. Interment will follow at El Muerto Cemetery also in Harlingen.

Maria V. Rodriguez

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Maria V. Rodriguez, 80, passed away Monday, April 18, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. She was born January 7, 1925 in Raymondville,  Texas to Tomas and Catarina (Garza) Villarreal.

A Rosary will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., April 21, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Rodriguez lived in Willacy County all her life.

She is survived by her loving husband of sixty one years, Ramiro R. Rodriguez of Raymondville; three sons, Rey (Yolanda) Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Roy (Gloria) Rodriguez of Harlingen and Rick (Cheryl) Rodriguez of Houston; three brothers, Roberto (Eloisa) Villarreal of  Louisiana and Lupe Villarreal of California; one sister, Maria Elena Alejandro of California. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three of her children, Ramiro Rodriguez, Jr., Rodolfo Rodriguez and Rosalinda R. Acevedo.

She was also a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She served as a Eucharist Minister in the Eucharist Prayer Group and was a long time member of the Guadalupanas.

Mrs. Rodriguez will be lying in State at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church until time of funeral.

Pallbearers will be John Henry Rodriguez, Salvador Acevedo, Jr., Michael Rey Rodriguez, Roy Rodriguez, Jr., Robert Cervantes, Jr., and Saul Silva.

Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Anthony Cervantes.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Jose G. Rodriguez

HARLINGEN, TX — Jose G. Rodriguez 93, passed away at Valley Grande Manor in Weslaco, TX April 20, 2005. Born November 1, 1911 in Cadereyta de Jimenez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to his parents Isaac Rodriguez and Luisa Garcia. Jose was a lifelong resident of La Feria.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Irma Rodriguez.

Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Maria C. Rodriguez of La Feria; sons: Ramiro G. Rodriguez and his wife, Cruzita, Jesus G. Rodriguez and his wife, Juanita both of La Feria, Jose G. Rodriguez Jr. and his wife, Maria Dora of King City, CA; and a daughter: Enedelia R. Vaiz and her husband, Rogelio of Corpus Christi, TX; 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.

God looked around his garden and he found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God‘s garden must be beautiful because he only takes the best. He knew you were suffering he knew you were in pain. He knew you would never get well on earth again. So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace Be Thine." He then took you to heaven, with hands gentle and so kind. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for parts of us went with you the day God called you home. Forever in our hearts we will always miss you from your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitations will begin today, Thur., April 21, 2005 at 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM with prayer of the holy roasry at 7:00 PM tonight.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Fri., April 22, 2005 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, La Feria with Deacon Hugo De La Cruz as celebrant. Interment will follow to Heavenly Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honored to be pallbearers will be Ramiro Rodriguez, Jesus Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez Jr., Rogelio Vaiz Sr., Rogelio Vaiz Jr., Ramiro Rodriguez Jr., Jesus Rodriguez Jr., and Micheal Lee Aguilar.

The whole family would like to thank everybody at Valley Grande Manor, and the staff and doctors at Knapp Medical Center. Thank you for your kindness and help in this time of need.

Jay C. Harmon

HARLINGEN, TX — Jay C. Harmon, 62, of Cuchara, CO, and formerly of Harlingen, passed away April 17, 2005.

He was retired from South Point Nursery, was a US Army Captain and  Texas A&I graduate. He loved golf, hunting, snow skiing and farming.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Perkins Harmon; daughter, Sherilyn H. Goad; son, Major Craig M. Harmon; and 4 grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2005 at 4 p.m. at the Central Christian Church in Brownsville, with graveside services on Saturday, April 23, 2005 in Goliad County at the Sarco Cemetery.

Alfred H. Bray

HANNIBAL, MO — Alfred H. Bray, 96, of Hannibal, MO died at 7:38 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2005 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hannibal. Rev. Doug Darnold will officiate. Burial will be at in Olathe, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday at the James O‘Donnell Funeral Home.

Mr. Bray was born October 5, 1908, in rural Lowry City, MO to Arthur and Jessie B. Walters Bray.

He was married to Francis Virginia Garnett on January 1, 1934 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death November 4, 1990.

Survivors include 1 son, James A. Bray (Xiao Mei) of Austin,  Texas; 1 daughter, Sarah E. Whitaker (John R.) of Hannibal, MO; 5 grandchildren, Bryan A. Bray (Lisa), Brad A. Bray, Brett A. Bray, Jennifer K. Brooks (Michael), Christopher A. Whitaker (Heather); great-grandchildren, Ashley Bray, Amber Bray, Mayson Bray, Alec Bray, Alyssa Bray, Jeremy Brooks, Seth Brooks and Embrie Whitaker.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Mr. Bray was a recognized expert on food dehydration techniques and consulted with the U.S. Army during World War II. He also designed and built a phosphate processing plant that converted phosphate ore into livestock feed. His company, Fosforo, owned mines in Mexico and imported ore for processing in the Rio Grande Valley of  Texas. He was also involved in bonded warehousing at the port of Brownsville, TX. and was a licensed pilot for many years. Mr. Bray was also a 32nd Degree Mason. A resident of the Rio Grande Valley for 67 years, Mr. Bray retired at age 90 and relocated to Hannibal to be with his daughter and son in law.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hannibal. During his six years in Hannibal, Mr. Bray endeared himself to many and was known for his quick wit and good humor. He always had a joke or funny comment and wore a perpetual smile on his face. God granted him a fruitful mortal life and a passage filled with dignity to be with Him for eternity. He was a blessing to his family and friends, and he will truly be missed.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church .

Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan A. Bray, Bradley A. Bray, Brett A. Bray, Christopher A. Whitaker, and Robert Goans.

Dorothy R. Ostrander

HARLINGEN, TX — Dorothy Ruth Quass Ostrander, 71, went to be with her Lord and Savior to that Shining City on a hill and the home Jesus has prepared for her on Friday, April 15, 2005. She was born on June 25, 1933 in Independence, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Emma Quass and her two brothers.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Keith; sons, Wade Ostrander (Sonia) of Omaha, NE and Dr. Todd Ostrander (Jenifer) of Hayward, WI; two daughters are Valerie Rufe (Jerry) of Huntsville, AL and Andrea Thoenes (Michael) Huntsville, AL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsay Ostrander (U.S. Navy) Daniel Ostrander (USMC), Adriaan Ostrander, Alex Ostrander, Aaron Ostrander, Jillian Rufe, Jake Rufe, Maja Thoenes, Kate Thoenes, Ethan Thoenes and Theo Thoenes; two sisters, Lucille Clemons (Carl) of Harlingen, TX, Bernice Quass of Cedar Falls, IA; one brother, Wayne Quass (Rosella) of Fredericka, IA. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces.

While in high school, Dorothy participated in Girls Basketball making Girls All-State Iowa Basketball Team in 1949. In 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Keith and received her teaching certificate at Upper Iowa Univeristy, Fayette, IA, taught school in Maynard, IA, Dumfries, VA, Jacksonville, NC and Altoona, AL. She stopped teaching to raise her family and teach them to follow the Lord all the while supporting her husband in many activities with his career at Prudential Insurance Co. She was a busy member of the Gideons International Auxiliary holding a State position in Minnesota, taught Bethel Bible Series in Eau Claire, WI, was an adult Sunday school teacher and prayer group leader in Altoona, AL. Loving to sing, she was a member of the church choir where she attended as long as her health allowed. Her main focus was to share her faith to men, women, boys and girls.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 22, 2005 at the First Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Pat Graham and Rev. Chris Hall officiating.
