Maria V. Rodriguez

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Maria V. Rodriguez, 80, passed away Monday, April 18, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. She was born January 7, 1925 in Raymondville,  Texas to Tomas and Catarina (Garza) Villarreal.

A Rosary will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., April 21, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Rodriguez lived in Willacy County all her life.

She is survived by her loving husband of sixty one years, Ramiro R. Rodriguez of Raymondville; three sons, Rey (Yolanda) Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Roy (Gloria) Rodriguez of Harlingen and Rick (Cheryl) Rodriguez of Houston; three brothers, Roberto (Eloisa) Villarreal of Raymondville, Oscar Villarreal,  Louisiana and Lupe Villarreal of California; one sister, Maria Elena Alejandro of California. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three of her children, Ramiro Rodriguez, Jr., Rodolfo Rodriguez and Rosalinda R. Acevedo.

She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She served as a Eucharist Minister in the Eucharist Prayer Group and was a long time member of the Guadalupanas.

Mrs. Rodriguez will be lying in State at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church until time of funeral.

Pallbearers will be John Henry Rodriguez, Salvador Acevedo, Jr., Michael Rey Rodriguez, Roy Rodriguez, Jr., Robert Cervantes, Jr., and Saul Silva.

Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Anthony Cervantes.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Lowry Hester

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Lowry Hester, son of Darrell and Nell Hester, died on April 19, 2005, in San Antonio,  Texas. Born April 11, 1955 in Harlingen, he attended Harlingen schools and received his Bachelor‘s and Master‘s degrees from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches,  Texas, where he met and married Nancy Mitchell in 1978. At the time of his death, Lowry was Senior Vice President of Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc., in San Antonio.

Lowry is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his sons, Doug and Ben, of San Antonio,  Texas; parents; his sisters, Anne (Jeff) Flowers of Weslaco,  Texas, Judy (Kelton) Green of Austin,  Texas, Ellen Cave of Houston,  Texas and Barbara (Dan) Ponder of Pasadena,  Texas; four nieces, two nephews, and number of cousins.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at Grace Presbyterian Church in San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society or charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Porter Loring Funeral Home in San Antonio.

Carol Ann McKinney

BROWNSVILLE, TX — Carol Ann McKinney passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville on April 21, 2005 after a long illness.

Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed. Her greatest joy was her family, and she adored her eight grandchildren. Carol was born in Cushing,  Oklahoma on December 12, 1936. She attended the University of  Oklahoma and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta soroity. Carol was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni Association, served on the Panhellenic board, and the Woman‘s Auxilary Medical Society. She served as a board member at Saint Joseph Academy, Saint Joseph Academy booster club, and the Lower Rio Grande Valley Cotillion. Carol was the hostess of the inaugural Saint Joseph Academy Wine Tasting fundraiser and she served with the Junior Service League of Brownsville.

Carol was a resident of Brownsville since 1972. She is survived by her husband, Dr. William James McKinney and five children, William Bradford McKinney (Rancho Viejo), James Camden McKinney (Rancho Viejo), Ann Michelle Evans (Atlanta), Kristopher Lynn McKinney (Harlingen), and Carol Shannon Garza (Brownsville), and the love of her life, her eight grandchildren, Julia, William, Emily, Chase, Madison, Will, Alden, and Camden.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Helen Bradford.

There will be a memorial service at Darling-Mouser Funeal Home in Brownsville on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 4 p.m. Interment will follow to Buena Vista Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be William Bradford McKinney, James Camden McKinney, Kristopher Lynn McKinney, Charles Dunn Evans, Carlos Garza and Chris Politte.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Scleroderma Foundation at 1-800-722-Hope.

Edward R. Radil

HARLINGEN, TX — Edward R. Radil, age 78, formerly of Omaha, NE passed away April 9, 2005.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Kathleen of Harlingen; 6 children, Janette Sodoro, Linda Girtton, Diane Cernik, Edward, Bradley and David all of Omaha; 3 sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; one brother, Robert Radil; two sisters, Anna Millen and Dorothy Lanaha; sister-in-law, Phyliis Radil; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joseph Radil.

Edward retired from U.S. Postal Service. He was also a member of the Shriners Alamin of Harlingen, a life member of the VFW, American Legion and the Elks all of Harlingen.

A Mass was held in Omaha on April 15, 2005. He was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery with Full military Honors conducted by the VFW of Omaha.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Gilberto Guajardo, Sr.

LOS FRESNOS, TX — Gilberto Guajardo, Sr., 83, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical

Center. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Maria C. Guajardo; one son, Gilberto (Alicia) Guajardo,Jr.; and four daughters, Rosita (Ygnacio) Caraveo, Dora Lopez, Mage Guajardo, Cynthia Guajardo; and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Guillermo Guajardo of Laureles; and five sisters, Lydia G. Reyna, Abelina Guajardo, Emma G. Cisneros of Laureles and Odelia G. Salazar of Los Fresnos.

Pallbearers will be Celedonio Cruz, Jesus Cisneros, Silverio Cortez, Manuel Cisneros, Jr., Evan Reyna, and James Guajardo.

Honorary Pallbearers are Joey Guajardo, Anthony Guajardo, Ygnacio Caraveo, Jr., Hector Lopez, Jr., Gloria Lopez, Yvonne Caraveo, and Jennifer Lopez.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, April 22, 2005 at San Benito Funeral Home. A Rosary will be conducted at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2005 departing funeral home at 12:30 p.m. to Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos with interment to follow at Los Cuates Cemetery.

Services are under the auspices of the American Legion Post 205 and American Legion Post 632, and V.F.W. Post 240.

Jesusa B. Caballero

LA FERIA, TX — Jesusa B. Caballero, The Lord called home our beloved mother, grandmother, sister; Jesusa B. Caballero was born on April 19, 1930 in Brownsville, TX to Aniceto and Herlinda S. Betancourt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Rosa Shears Betancourt; husband, Pvt. Pedro L. Caballero and companion, Enrique Leal, Sr.; brothers, Baldo, Aniceto and Roberto Betancourt; sisters, Francisca Garcia, Aurora Gonzalez and Alicia B. Gonzales; and one great-granddaughter, Alisha Ashley Loya.

She is survived by her daughters, Carmen (Art) Medrano of Harlingen, TX, Herlinda Caballero and Emilia (Danny Maganas) Leal of La Feria, TX; one son, Enrique (Melinda) Leal, Jr. of Santa Rosa, TX; 10 grandchildren, Pete (Susan) Guevara, Steve and Andy Guevara of La Feria, TX, Randy (Cindy) Gonzalez, Lorie (Juan) Loya, Enrique (Amy) Leal, III, Julian Adrian, Isabella and Ian Mychal; 10 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Danielle Guevara, Naithal Lamar and Gavin Guevara, Juan, III, Vincent and Ashley Loya, Enrique, Jr., Tammy and Dravan Leal; sisters, Andrea Olevera of Brownsville, TX, Rosa Lopez of San Antonio, TX, Paulita Zavala and Petra Vega of La Feria, TX, Susana Mireles of Arizona, Grace Rivera of Caudwell, Idaho; one brother, Emilio Betancourt of La Feria, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 9:00 AM at the Spirit of Praise Church in Harlingen, TX. God Saw You- God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "Come to ME". With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Jouette T. Robinson

BROWNSVIILE, TX — Jouette T. Robinson, 61, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2005 at her residence in Brownsville. She was born on November 17, 1943 in Lee County, Arkansas to Dick and Velma Thomas.

Jouette had been a resident of Brownsville for the past 10 years moving here from Arlington,  Texas. She was the Office Manager of the CEI Construction Co. in Arlington before moving to Brownsville. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the DFW Women‘s Golf Association, All Valley Women‘s Golf Association, and the VICC Women‘s Golf Association where she was the Women‘s Golf Champion 4 times.

Jouette is survived by her husband, Guy D. Robinson of Brownsville; children, David A. (Christy) Robinson of Enid, OK, Mary (Richard) Mallet of Kyle, TX, Linda (Greg) Hayes of Fredericksburg, TX, Darrell Robinson of Austin, TX; and 8 grandchildren; sisters, Polly (Manuel) Perez of Russellville, AR, Delana Lee of Little Rock, AR, Hazel Dunigan of Marianna, AR, Joy Crow of Water Valley, MS; brother, D. Ed Thomas of Mariana, AR; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Alida Chapmon, Virginia Higginbotham, and Louise Dreue.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica Blvd., Brownsville,  Texas, 1 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2005 with the Rev. Steve Purdy officiating.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Todd Shenkenberg, Dr. Ramon Arguelles, Jorge del la Garza, and Tom and Wanda Pope for their care and concern.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Healthcare, 2108 Central Blvd., Brownsville,  Texas 78520.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Juana S. Alcocer

PORT ISABEL, TX — Juana S. Alcocer, 69, of Port Isabel,  Texas passed away on April 21, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.

Mrs. Alcocer was a member of Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic Church and lived in Port Isabel most of her life. She was a loving dedicated Mother to her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her grandson, Marvin Perez, Jr.; 1 great grandson, Vicente Ramon Lopez; parents, Martin and Maria Luisa Sariana; brother, Jesus Sariana.

She is survived by her husband, Ramon Alcocer, Sr. of Port Isabel; 2 daughters, Anna Luisa (Marvin) Perez and Martha Alicia Alcocer both of Port Isabel; 6 sons, Ramon (Maria) Alcocer, Jr., of Port Isabel, Martin Alcocer of Houston, Oracio (Susie) Alcocer of Port Isabel, Guadalupe (Earlene) Alcocer of Port Isabel, Aurelio (Rosalinda) Alcocer of Harlingen, and Jaime (Manuela) Alcocer of Port Isabel; 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carmen Garza and Gracelia Gonzalez; 2 brothers, Jaime Sariana and Federico Fierro.

Visitation will be held today, Saturday, April 23, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be continued on Sunday, April 24, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home Chapel and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic Church, 705 Longoria Street in Port Isabel.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 25, 2005 at Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic Church with Father Jerry Frank officiating. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her 6 sons and 2 grandsons, Ramon Alcocer, Jr., Martin Alcocer, Oracio Alcocer, Guadalupe Alcocer, Aurelio Alcocer, Jaime Alcocer, Michael Alcocer and Joshua Alcocer.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae Garza Funeral Home, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito,  Texas. 399-1331
