RUTH E. HAGEMAN

Ruth Epsie Hageman, 83, of San Angelo died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in an area hospital.

Following a family luncheon and visitation at the church at noon, the funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the First Baptist Church in Tennyson. Burial to follow in Bronte Cemetery.

Ruth was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Roanoke,  Texas, in Denton County to Thomas Asa and Sudie Rutland Brown. Ruth married Clifford E. Hageman on Dec. 8, 1937, in San Angelo. The happy couple lived in the Tennyson area and in Bronte for over 50 years. She was a housewife and a Christian.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford in March of 1987; four brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Clifford Dwain Hageman and his wife, Sonja, of Pleasanton,  Texas, and Don Hageman and his wife, Suzanne, of San Angelo; a daughter, Epsie Jo Hanna of San Angelo; a sister, Emma Lou Stewart of San Angelo; two sisters-in-law, Lora Belle Brown and Frances Hageman; two brothers-in-law, Rance Brunson and James Hageman; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Robert Massie Funeral Home

MARLIN PORTER

LAMPASAS — Marlin Porter, 87, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at his residence in Lampasas. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Standard officiating. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery in Kempner.

He was born April 2, 1914, in the Sweatout Community in Lampasas County to Virgil Porter and Alga Hutcheison Porter. He was a lifetime resident of Lampasas.

He married Orean Lindsey June 22, 1935, at the Lampasas County Courthouse. He was a self-employed farmer and rancher and a member of the Agriculture Stabilization Commission for 17 years.

Survivors include his wife, Orean Porter of Lampasas; sons, Maylon Porter and wife, Judy, of Lometa, Melvin Porter and wife, Kathy, of Kingsland and Jimmy Porter and wife, Brenda, of San Angelo; daughter, Arleta Green and husband, Ronald, of Lampasas; brothers, L.A. Porter of Lampasas and Clayton Porter of Eldorado; sisters, Neva Machen of Lampasas, Alena Hutchison of Dilly, Edna Carroll of Tucson, Ariz., and Reba Weeks of Lampasas; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; aunt, Vivian Nelson of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alton and Clinton Porter.

MARY F. NATIONS

OZONA — Mary Nations ended her 78-year earthly journey, dying without pain in her home on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002. She was looking forward to being with her Lord, making the words of her favorite hymn “Nearer My God to Thee” become real.

She was born March 28, 1923, to Jimmie and Freida Wade of Alpine. She married Eddy Nations March 17, 1946.

A resident of Ozona for 47 years and a teacher there for 30 years, Mrs. Nations, a.k.a. “Mother Nations,” adopted every child who walked through the door of her classroom. It seems like everywhere you go in Ozona, people say “She was my teacher,” or “She was my dad/mom’s teacher.” She will be remembered for her feisty attitude and her toe in a jar.

Survivors include a son, Robert Nations of Kyle; a daughter, Michele Nations of Holliday; a sister, Margaret Smith of Baltimore, Md.; a great uncle, Charles Wade of Alpine; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the First Baptist Church of Ozona, with burial at 4 p.m. in Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine. Bring your best memories of Mrs. Nations.

The family would like memorials to be sent to the First Baptist Church of Ozona Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 1608, Ozona,  Texas 76943.

A special thanks for the wonderful loving care she received goes to Shelly Wood, Connie Gonzales, Jarrett Karels, Emily Cervantez, Kasi Yeager, Donna McDaniels, the beautiful people at InterLink and American Homepatient and all the other countless helping hands who made her last days precious. FRANCIS LEE BROCKER

Francis Lee (F.L.) Brocker was born Oct. 17, 1917, to Clarence and Elizabeth Russell Brocker in Kansas City, Mo. He left this life to be with his Lord on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002.

Francis married Mary Alma Stebens on Dec. 9, 1938, in Lakin, Kan. They moved to Monte Vista,  Colo., where he worked for Skilling Oil Co. before moving to Pueblo,  Colo., with Miller Construction Co. building air bases for the United States government during World War II. They then moved to Dodge City, Kan., where he was employed by Gynon Petro Grocery. After taking a position with Montgomery-Ward and Co., he worked at their stores in Lubbock, Albuquerque and San Angelo, retiring there in 1980. His life in San Angelo has included a longtime membership in Baptist Temple.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Brocker; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ed Fuqua; granddaughter, Kara Ferguson and her husband, Dale; grandson, John Fuqua and his fiancé, Holly Walraven; great-grandsons, Eric, Tyler and Harley Ferguson, Willy Fuqua and Dakotah Walraven.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, (Jack) Clarence Brocker, and by a stepfather, Charles Armstrong.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Baptist Temple with interment following in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Sample, Ernest Bloodworth, Gregory Economidis, David Words, Charles Hall, Jim Hamilton, Sid Patton and Don Butts. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former deacons of Baptist Temple.

The family offers special thanks to VistaCare Hospice and Dr. Morton for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be made to VistaCare Hospice or to Baptist Temple.

SAN ANGELO — Lewis Cecil Brooks, 87, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at his residence. Service will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Robert Massie Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie; daughter, June Hicks of San Angelo; and sister, Linnie B. Mills of Corpus Christi.

WINTERS — Ruby Armenda House, 83, died Friday, May 24, 2002, in a local nursing home. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Lubbock Cemetery. Arrangements are by Winters Funeral Home.

Survivors include daughter, Kathy Pringle of Winters; sisters, Geneva Gilbreath and Margie Johnson, both of Broken Bow, Okla.; and brothers, Eddie Mills and Leroy Lackey, both of Lake Charles, La., and A.V. Mills of Antlers, Okla.

COLEMAN — Ricky Glenn Eldred, 31, of Santa Anna died Thursday, May 23, 2002, in a local care center. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Glen Cove Cemetery. Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home.

Survivors include parents, Bill and Sandra Rodgers of Santa Anna, Ed and Betty Eldred of Coleman and Billy Walker of Brownwood; brothers, Chris Eldred of Santa Anna, and George Eldred and Scotty Kitchens, both of Coleman; sisters, Salinda Eldred of Santa Anna and Carmel Walker of Brownwood; stepbrother, Michael Hubach of Coleman; and stepsister, Chrissy Hubach of Winters.

COLEMAN — Brendan Lee Clay, infant son of Jessica Lee Clay and Landon Figert, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, in a Fort Worth hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Atoka Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Jessica Lee Clay of Fort Worth and Landon Figert of Granbury; and grandparents, Brenda Clay of Fort Worth, Dale Clay of Arlington, Stacy Gilmore of Midland and Michael Figert of Odessa.

BRADY — Lillian Barton Riggs, 96, died Saturday, May 25, 2002. Service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Leatherwood Memorial Chapels with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Survivors include her sister, Fay Caylor of Brady.

SAN SABA — Leonard O. Crim, 85, died Thursday, May 23, 2002. Service will be at 2 p.m. today in Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with burial in San Saba City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Crim of Del Rio; sons, Jim Crim of Waxahachie, Leonard Weldon Crim of New Braunfels, Douglas Crim and Bob Crim, both of Cedar Park, and Bill Crim of Kerrville; and daughter, Linda Hunt of Flatonia.

SWEETWATER — Joe Sanchez Jr., 30, died Saturday, May 25, 2002. Services are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.

GOLDTHWAITE — Mable W. Carter, 85, died Friday, May 24, 2002, in a Clifton hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Center City Cemetery in Center City.

Survivors include sons, Harold Carter of Austin, Sammy Carter of Mattapoisett, Mass., and Bobby Carter of Meridian; daughter, Wanda Carter of Clifton; brother, Herman Collier of Temple; and sisters, Mildred Horton of Goldthwaite, Elizabeth Hiller of Abilene and Edna Head of Center City.

FREDERICKSBURG — Helen Mae Hopf, 85, of Harper died Friday, May 24, 2002, at her residence. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday in Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel. Service will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harper with burial in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Hobson Hopf of Harper; and daughter, Mildred Lang of Kerrville.

BROWNWOOD — Tommie D. Morgan, 74, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, in a local hospital. Service will be at 4 p.m. today in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenleaf Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin Glynn Morgan of Brownwood; daughters, Glenda Gayle Moore and Janice Karen Newsome, both of Brownwood; sister, Dixie Lenz of Cisco; and brother, Bob Barker of Hewitt.

EDEN — William Guerden Schafer, 74, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, in a Kerrville hospital. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Eden Funeral Home Chapel.

Survivors include daughters, Nadine Lackey of San Angelo, Yvonne Chesser of Eden and Lyvonda Price of Ruidoso, N.M.; and sister, Sue Rainwater of San Angelo.

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Charlotte F. Jones, 89, of Indialantic, Fla., died Saturday, May 25, 2002. Service will be in Melbourne.

Survivors include daughters, Althea Krasny of Indialantic, Marilyn Cowley-Hillis of San Angelo,  Texas, and Janet Pitts of Lakeland, Fla.

JULIE COUCH

Julie Kathryn Couch passed from this life on Saturday, May 25, 2002, in a local hospital at the age of 49.

Julie was born to Wesley and Frances Couch on Oct. 28, 1952, in Matador,  Texas. She attended school in Matador and Gorman. Julie worked at Baptist Memorial and was employed at the San Angelo State School until illness forced her to retire several years ago. She was a member of Carlsbad First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Lukretia and husband, Nathan Nichols, of DeLeon,  Texas, and Kayla Couch of Carlsbad; special cousin, Dede Morgan and husband, Kevin, of DeLeon; two special friends, Phil Fox and wife, Becky, and son, all of Arlington,  Texas, and James Pritchett and wife, Anita, and children, all of Plainview,  Texas; five nieces and nephews; one grandniece; one grandnephew; and a number of cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; a great-grandmother; an aunt; and an uncle.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, in Shaffer Funeral Homes Pioneer Chapel. Burial will follow in Pioneer Memorial Park.
