James "Red" Bruce

LOS FRESNOS, TX — Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, James "Red" Bruce, 90, of Los Fresnos,  Texas passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Aurora; one son; his parents, Will and Mattie Bruce; four brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his children, Martha (Gustavo) Barreda of Los Fresnos, Jerry (Esther) Bruce of McAllen; four grandsons, Chris (Maria) Ewing of Ft. Stockton,  Texas, Carlos (Missy) Bruce of San Antonio,  Texas, Scott (Letty) Ewing of El Paso,  Texas and James Bruce of Brownsville; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Stecher of Des Moines, Iowa.

Also surviving are several brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Red was born on March 29, 1915 in Russellville, Arkansas. He came to Los Fresnos in 1934 and made farming his living for over 35 years.

He was a charter member of both the Los Fresnos Lions Club and the Los Fresnos Volunteer Fire Department.

He served for many years on the Water DIstrict #6 board as well as serving on the advisory boards for the Port Regional Gin and the Valley Grain Association.

Red also served in numerous civic organizations in Los Fresnos and throughout Cameron County.

To all who knew and loved him, he was a Prince of a Person and will be sorely missed.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Ewing, Scott Ewing, James Bruce, Carlos Bruce, Tom Moses, and Mark Miller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Pederson, Bud Wentz, Steve Mauro, Sam Sato, Bob Walsdorf and Raymond Kretz.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Henry Thomae Funeral Home in San Benito with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Henry Thomae Funeral Home Chapel in San Benito with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.

In lieu of flowers those who wish may make a donation to Sunshine Haven (Hospice Home) P.O. Box 4478 Brownsville, TX 78523.

Services have been entrusted to the care of Henry Thomae Funeral Home 701 N. Bowie San Benito. 399-9992.

Antonio Estrada, Jr.

SAN BENITO, TX — Antonio Estrada, Jr., 23, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2005 in San Benito,  Texas.

He was born in Harlingen,  Texas on February 22, 1982 to Olivia H. and Antonio Estrada, Sr.

He is currently survived by his wife, Karina Castillo, San Benito,  Texas; 1 daughter, Andrea Estrada, San Benito,  Texas; 1 son, Antonio Estrada, III, San Benito,  Texas; mother, Olivia H. Estrada, San Benito,  Texas; father, Antonio G. Estrada, Sr., San Benito,  Texas; 1 brother, Nicolas Estrada, San Benito,  Texas; 4 sisters, Maria D. Estrada, San Benito,  Texas, Crystal Estrada, San Benito,  Texas, Michelle Estrada, San Benito,  Texas, and Jasmine Estrada, San Benito,  Texas; paternal grandfather, Leonardo Estrada, San Benito,  Texas; maternal grandparents, Nicolas and Ricarda Martinez, Rio Verde, Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Maria de Jesus Estrada; and by his brother, Antonio Estrada, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Estrada, LeeRoy Estrada, Nicolas Estrada, Rodolfo Castillo, Reynaldo Leal, and Manuel "MeMe" Leal.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary scheduled for 7 p.m. in the North Chapel.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church and interment will follow to the San Benito City Cemetery.

Charles Lee Brannum

SHERMAN, TX — Services for Charles Lee Brannum, 62 years old, who passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Wilson N.  Jones Medical Center in Sherman,  Texas were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at the Friendship Cemetery in Sherman,  Texas.

Marie "Mickey" Conaway

HARLINGEN, TX — Marie "Mickey" Almond Conaway, 78, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Knapp Medical Center.

Mrs. Conaway worked in the U.S. Dept of Agriculture in Harlingen,  Texas as office Manager. She worked for the U.S. Dept. of Communicable Desease in Atlanta, GA, and as manager of Hud in Denver, Colorado.

Mrs. Conaway is preceded in death by her parents, Marie Audrey Almond and John Joseph Almond.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel Conaway from Columbus, Ohio of 31 years; sons, Patrick D. Walston from Farmington, MN, John Conaway from Austin,  Texas, Tim Walston of Denver, Colorado, Samuel S. Walston from Fayettville, GA, Ronnie L. Walston from Jacksonville, FL; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, April 26, 2005 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Mont Meta Restlawn Cox Funeral Home.

Graveside Service to be held today, April 26, 2005 at 1:00 pm at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria,  Texas.

Services are under the Care of Mont Meta Restlawn Cox Funeral Home, Cemeteries, Dignity Memorial Provider, 2906 S. Expressway 77-83, Harlingen,  Texas.

Maria C. Aguilar

SANTA MARIA, TX — Maria C. Aguilar, 93, entered into rest on Friday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.

Mrs. Aguilar was a lifelong resident of Santa Maria and was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Aguilar; and son, Arnoldo Aguilar.

She is survived by her children, Elodia (Eloy) Villarreal of Santa Maria, TX, Guadalupe Aguilar of Santa Maria, TX, Alberto (Enedina) Aguilar of Brownsville, TX, Armando (Herlinda) Aguilar of La Feria, TX., Abel (Ninfa) Aguilar of La Feria, TX, Alonzo (Nancy) Aguilar of Ashtabula, Ohio, Anna (Joseph) Davila of Santa Maria, TX; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Angelita De La Cerda of Mercedes, TX, Antonia Soto of Reynosa, MX; and brother, Juventino Cantu of Alamo, TX.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, April 26, 2005 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Gar za Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian burial at Santa Anna Margarita Catholic Church in Santa Maria, TX with Fr. Tom Matando as the celebrant.

Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, TX.

Pallbearers will be Steve Cox, Jr., Troy Cox, Arnoldo Aguilar, Abel Aguilar, Jr., Oscar Villarreal and Jose Villarreal.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Juan C. Camacho

SAN BENITO/COMBS, TX — Juan C. "Johnny" Camacho, 63, passed away Monday, April 25, 2005, at his residence. "My loving memory of you will remain forever in my heart.

The legacy of your life will live on through me and others you have touched".

A loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and uncle. Johnny was an avid hunter and Fisherman who loved the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Camacho; by his daughters, Linda Camacho, Norma

Maldonado (Matt), Sandra Camacho, Christina Camacho; by his sons, Juan Camacho, Jr. (Elida), and Javier Camacho (Michelle); a step-daughter, Elvira M. Orozco (Saul); and Step-son, David O. Martinez (Linda), his grandchildren, Krystal Buitron, Jon Matthew Maldonado, Isaac Camacho, Erica and Liana Mendoza, Vanessa, Dante and Dominic Camacho, Serena Orozco, Nicole, Raven, Destiny, and Emily Martinez; brothers, Macedonio Camacho (Mary), Daniel (Mary) Camacho, Jr.; sister, Anna C. Zepeda (Alfredo+); numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sara B. Camacho; his parents, Daniel and Manuela Camacho.

Haley Remy

HARLINGEN, TX — Haley (O‘Keeffe) Remy, 33, and baby David Zane Remy, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005 in Cement, OK.

Haley was born on June 17, 1971 in Harlingen,  Texas to Lloyd Wayne O‘Keeffe, Jr. and Janet  Johnson Magee. She was a life long resident of Harlingen until recently moving to Cement, OK. She was a graduate of University Prepatory School in Harlingen, a member of the Assembly of God Church in Cement, OK and faithful to her Thursday night Bible Study group.

Haley is survived by her husband, Jeff Remy; grandmother, Claudette O‘Keefe; mother, Janet Magee; step-father, John Magee; children, Natalie Groves, John Groves, Quinn Sidler, Logan Sidler and Riley Catlett; sisters, JoAnne (Seth) Gillen and Leslie Magee.She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Wayne O‘Keeffe, Jr.; grandfather, Lloyd Wayne O‘Keeffe, Sr.; and grandparents, Ross and Mary Johnson.

Visitation hours will be held from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2005 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 3 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2005 with the Rev. Ron Corzine officiating. Following the services family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship at the Christian Fellowship Church, 827 E. Vinson Rd., Harlingen,  Texas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Tanamachi, James Lacy, Joe Lacy, Jeff Lacy, Kevin Catlett, Roy Salazar and Moose Miller.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions may be made to Blue Sunday Child Abuse Prevention Initiative, P.O. Box 730, Port Isabel, TX 78578.

Haley is at peace now and her bright sense of humor and generous heart will be missed.

Andrea Rodriguez

LA FERIA, TX — Andrea Rodriguez, 85, of La Feria entered into rest Monday, April 25, 2005.

She is survived by her children, Lorenzo (Flora) Sanchez of La Feria, Guadalupe De La Fuente of Harlingen and Hector De La Fuente of La Feria; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be today, (Wednesday) from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and a rosary will be at 7 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel in La Feria.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, departing the Rudy Garza Chapel at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church and interment will follow at Solis Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Andrea loved gardening, her plants were her proud and joy. She also enjoyed going to Sammy‘s Club and going to Sunglo where she was very active.

Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Palms Chapel of La Feria.

Raymond B. Lanehart

HARLINGEN, TX — Raymond Brewer Lanehart 80, entered eternal rest early April 25, 2005. He was born October 6, 1924 in Norton,  Texas to his parents Willie Raymond Lanehart and Lila Sue B. Lanehart.

Ray was employed as a mechanic, master electrician and traveled the world setting and repairing power supply systems for Stewart & Stevenson before his retirement.

Ray proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy, 1942 - 1946 and served on the Destroyer Escort USS Tomich. Ray was a 32° Mason and a member of El Maida Shriners. He enjoyed golf and tennis.

He is preceded in death by his wife Leona Lanehart and his parents.

Survived by a brother: Burton Lanehart and his wife, Jo of Iraan, TX; a daughter: Jolaine Lanehart and her husband, Jim Najvar of Arroyo City, TX; a son: John Lanehart and his wife, Judy of Eastland, TX; 2 grandsons: Jake and Brodie Lanehart both of Eastland, TX; sister-in-law: Ruby Mahan of Odessa, TX; and numerous nephews and nieces.
