Catarino Trevino, Jr.

HARLINGEN, TX — Catarino Trevino, Jr., 32 years of age, entered into the eternal kingdom of Christ his savior early in the morning of May 3, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Catarino was born on June 12, 1972 in Harlingen,  Texas and was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, a nurse since 1998, employed with Sunglo Home Health Care for the past 5 years and has been a devoted man to his family, and his patients with Sunglo Home Health Care.

A very special mention of gratification on behalf of the immediate family of our loved one, by saying "Thank You" to the wonderful staff of Sunglo Home Health Care not only for being such good friends to Catarino but also for being in the service of serving others when they need it most.

We also would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Valley Baptist Medical Center serving in the N.I.C.U. and C.C.U.

Catarino is survived by his wife, Klein S. Trevino, Harlingen, TX; daughter, Monica Lee Trevino, Harlingen, TX, son, Catarino Trevino III, Harlingen, TX, daughter, Ashley Nicole Trevino, Harlingen, TX, son, Eric Nathan Trevino, Harlingen, TX; mother, Teresa O. Trevino, San Benito, TX; 3 brothers, Emilio (Rudy Alaniz) Gomez, Jr., Harlingen, TX, Reynaldo (Ofelia) Garza, San Benito, TX, Genaro (Norma) Trevino, San Antonio, TX; 2 sisters, Susana Gomez, San Benito, TX and Janie (Arturo) De La Fuente, San Benito, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Catarino Trevino, Sr., and his sister, Martha Cantu.

Visitation will begin today on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary in the North Chapel.

The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rudy Alaniz, Genaro Trevino, Jorge Morin, III, Alex Cantu, John Montanez, and Javier Zamora. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Thomae Garza Funeral Home, 395 S. Sam Houston Blvd., San Benito,  Texas 78586. 399-1331.

Nelda Black

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — Nelda R. Black, 73, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005 of lung cancer.

She is preceded in death by husband, E. E. "Blackie" Black; daughter, Jamie Chandler-Black; her parents, Clifford and Mary Habenicht.

She was born in Mineral Wells,  Texas but raised in Harlingen all her life until moving to Aransas Pass,  Texas to live closer to her daughter, Rae. Nelda retired from Kathryn Beich after 20 years of fund raising. Nelda had been a professional photographer in the Harlingen area for many years before going to work in fund raising.

She met and married E. E. "Blackie" Black, spending 25 adventurous years married to the man she loved, until his death in August of 1990. They loved the arroyo and fishing.

She is survived by her daughter, Rae Kane and her husband, Michael Wiener of Corpus Christi; grandson, Michael Kane of Corpus Christi; her sister, Jean (Dewey) Scott of Spring and Douglas (Janet) Habenicht of Milam,  Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A private Memorial Service is scheduled.

Louise Bea Crosswhite

HARLINGEN, TX — Louise Bea Crosswhite, 79, entered into rest on Monday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.

Mrs. Crosswhite was a longtime resident of Harlingen and was preceded in death by her husband, T.B. Crosswhite and three brothers.

She is survived by her loving children, Juanita (Edward) Horne of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Phyllis Crosswhite (Harold) Lutz of Warrenton, VA, Jeannie (Andrew) Williams of College Station, TX, Deborah (Robert) Nott of Harlingen, TX. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and her sisters, Julia Bach and Ruth Hathman both of Missouri.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2005 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Roses with the family present from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 10:00 AM at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home with Pastor Pat Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, TX.

Pallbearers will be Frank Rangel, Harold Lutz, Andrew Williams, Robbie Nott, Jesse Pool and Steven Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Amstutz and Tom York.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Crosswhite was a loving sister, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

George Cowie Dunlap

AUSTIN/LA FERIA, TX — George Cowie Dunlap currently of Austin,  Texas died on May 15, 2005 in Austin. He was 92. George was born at Mercedes, Hidalgo County,  Texas on December 23, 1912. He was the first of three children born to Bailey H. and Josephine (Cowie) Dunlap of La Feria,  Texas.

George attended schools at La Feria,  Texas and graduated class valedictorian. He spent two years at the Virginia military Institute before transferring to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts. He received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from MIT in 1935. He was elected to Tau Beta Pi honorary engineering society, and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. George secured a position with the Panama Canal Company in the Electrical Division, and subsequently moved to the Canal Zone to assume his duties.

On July 11, 1936, George married Grace Mildred Golder at Ancon, Canal Zone. Grace, the first of six children of Charles Munn and Eliza (Shenstone) Golder, was born at Boston, Massachusetts, on July 13, 1913. Grace was educated in schools at Cambridge and Boston Massachusetts, where she and George met. She is well known in international amateur radio circles. Three children were born to George and Grace Dunlap.

George Dunlap held various engineering positions with the Panama Canal Company, and was promoted to Chief of the Power Branch in 1951. In 1955 George took an Associate Engineer position on the 60 Cycle Power Conversion Project, which he held until 1957, the twenty second anniversary of his employment with the Panama Canal Company. The family then returned to La Feria,  Texas, where George devoted his time to the family operated land and investment business, growing citrus crops and numerous civic activities. Some of their happiest times were spent at their ranch near Rand, Colorado.

Both George and Grace were active in various civic, social and religious organizations in the La Feria area, where they resided until moving to Austin,  Texas in 2002. George was an active member of the La Feria Kiwanis Club and a past president; he has served as Chairman of the American Field service in La Feria; he served three years on the executive Board of the Bailey Dunlap Memorial Library and was President of the Board of Trustees of the La Feria School District. George was very active as an adult in leadership of the Boy Scouts of America and was presented the Silver Beaver Award for noteworthy service of exceptional character to boyhood. George and Grace were members of St. Alban‘s Episcopal Church of Harlingen,  Texas where George has been a delegate to a number of Diocesan Councils.

George is survived by his beloved wife Grace; sons, David and Robert; four grandchildren, Laura, Glenn, James and George; and two great grandchildren, Olivia and Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister; and a child, Bailey Hague III.

A memorial service will be held at St. Alban‘s Episcopal Church in Harlingen on Monday, May 23rd at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, consideration may be given to donations to the Alzheimer‘s Association.

Alejandro Guerrero

LA FERIA, TX — Alejandro Guerrero, three months old, entered into rest on May 18, 2005 in Harlingen.

He is survived by his parents, Roumaldo and Anna Guerrero; and a brother, Noah Guerrero of La Feria. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Helen Escobar and Hilton Yarnell; paternal grandparents, Abel and Petra Guerrero; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, May 20, 2005 at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel in La Feria from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005, departing the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel at 12:30 p.m. for a 1:00 p.m. funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Plutarco Belanggoy C.I.C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Palms Chapel in La Feria.

Barbarita G. Cantu

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Barbarita Garcia Cantu, 101, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. She was born November 7, 1903 in Laguna Larga,  Texas, Willacy County to Pedro L. and Candelaria (Torres) Garcia.

A Rosary will be held Friday 7 p.m. at Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral service will be held Saturday 10 a.m., May 21, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Cantu was the last surviving sister of the Garcia Family.

She is survived by four nieces, Alma Vasquez and Maricela B. Garcia both of Raymondville, Isabel Trevino of Lyford and Maria Elena Rivera of Raymondville; her sister-in-law, Guadalupe B. Garcia of Raymondville. She is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Guadalupe E. Arroyo

HARLINGEN, TX — Guadalupe E. Arroyo, 77, entered into rest on May 17, 2005 in Houston, TX.

Mrs. Arroyo was a lifelong resident of Harlingen and was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Maria Elizondo and sister, Daminia De La Rosa.

She is survived by her loving children; daughter, Sylvia (Arthur) Romero of Katy, TX; sons, Jimmy (Arlene) Arroyo of Milpitas, CA, Robert (Kelly) Arroyo of Ft. Worth, TX, Joe Arroyo of Katy, TX, Pete (Tami Jo) Arroyo of Tennessee; 19 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Ferman Elizondo, Felix Elizondo Pedro Elizondo, Jose Elizondo, Manuel Elizondo;, and one sister, Librada Lerma.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home today, Friday, May 20, 2005 at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park in Harlingen, TX.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Arroyo, Robert Arroyo, Joe Arroyo, Pete Arroyo, Jimmy Arroyo, Jr. and Jonathan Arroyo.

Mrs. Arroyo was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by all whose life she touched.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.

Maria Del Carmen Gomez

BROWNSVILLE, TX — Maria Del Carmen Gomez, 77, passed away on May 15, 2005 in Chicago, Illinois. She was born on April 12, 1928 in Brownsville,  Texas to Jose and Maria Saldana Gutierrez, who have preceded her in death.

She is survived by the following: son, Joseph Gomez, Harlingen,  Texas; 7 daughters, Guadalupe Irma Poellot, Chicago, Illinois, Dora S. Colin, Brownsville,  Texas, Margie Arroyo, Brownsville,  Texas; Maria Bartosz, Chicago, Illinois, Terry Gomez, Chicago, Illinois, Rosie Gomez, Chicago, Illinois, and Raquel Balderas, Chicago, Illinois; 26 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Brownsville,  Texas and Teresa Gutierrez, Brownsville,  Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Gomez; and her son, Miguel Tomas Gomez.

The funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. today, May 20, 2005 at St. Benedict‘s Catholic Church. Interment will follow to El Naranjo Cemetery.

William A. (Bill) Green

DONNA — William A. (Bill) Green passed away June 2, 2005 at the age of 82. Bill was the manager of the Donna Irrigation District for 34 years and for the Santa Cruz Irrigation District for 6 years, retiring in January 2005. He was honored on May 17, 2005 by the Lower Rio Grande Valley Water District Manager’s Association for his many years of dedication and involvement in water issues along the Rio Grande River.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Green of Donna, his children, Debbie (Dennis) Payne of Corpus Christi, Billy Green of Edinburg, Glenn (Noemi) Green of Donna, Dawn Green of San Antonio and Lee Gardner Green of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Derek Payne, Adam Green, William Austin Green, Christian Green, Hayley Green and Hunter Green.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2005 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Graveside services and interment will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Val Verde Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2 ½ mile North of Hwy 83 on Val Verde Rd. FM 1423 in Donna.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Christine Kellogg Colorectal Cancer Endowment, MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or the American Heart Association 1210 W. Expwy.83, Ste. 3, Pharr, TX 78577.

Ofelia Gonzalez

HARLINGEN — Ofelia Gonzalez, 68, entered into the Lord’s heavenly kingdom Saturday June 4, 2005 at her residence.

She was a lifetime resident of Harlingen and attended Harlingen Public School. She was employed for over 37 years and retired from  Texas State Chest Hospital where she also volunteered for over 12 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Maria Sada and her beloved daughter Velma Gonzalez. And sister Esperanza Perez

Survivors include her husband of 46 years Robert R. Gonzalez of Harlingen. Daughter: Marivel Gonzalez of Harlingen. 6 Brothers: David (Chavela) Sada, Daniel (Mertala) Sada, Gilbert (Faustina) Sada, Baldemar Sada and Gabriel Sada all of Harlingen. Alfredo (Maggie) Sada of California. 2 Sisters: Eva Hamilton also of California and Beatrice Dodson of Harlingen. Sister-in-law: Sofia Gonzalez of Harlingen.

Visitation will be held Sunday June 5, 2005 from 5pm to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

We will depart Trinity Funeral Home at 1:30pm for a 2 p.m. service Monday June 6, 2005 at The Second Preybestrian Church. Burial will follow to Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trinity at Harrison Funeral Home 1002 E. Harrison Harlingen, TX.

Juan E. Moreno

SAN BENITO — Juan E. Moreno, 58, of San Benito entered into eternal rest on June 2, 2005 at San Antonio Veterans Hospital.

Mr. Moreno, was a lifetime resident of San Benito and member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Juan Moreno his wife; Beatrice Moreno and grandmother, Cayetana Hernandez.

Survivors include his mother; Salome C. Moreno of San Benito, TX., daughter Angie Moreno. 3 sisters Angie (Frank) Saldivar of Harlingen, TX. Josie Moreno of Arizona, Mary Lou Cervantes of San Benito, TX. 4 brothers Joe E. (Ninfa) Moreno of Los Indios, TX., Tony Moreno of Harlingen, TX., Roy (Lydia) Silva, of Harlingen, TX., Domingo (Soila) Moreno of San Antonio and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005 with a Holy Rosary to be recited 7 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will begin 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church. Interment will follow to San Benito City Cemetery. military honors will be conducted by American legion Post 205 and VFW. Post 2410.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thomae Garza Funeral Directors.
