WANDA GAY HERRON

Wanda Gay Herron, 68, of San Angelo,  Texas, passed away Friday, May 24, 2002, at 11:10 a.m. at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Herron was born in San Angelo and raised in Corpus Christi and San Angelo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaylon and Myrtie Hart.

She was formerly Chief Deputy of the tax office in Midland,  Texas, for three years and the title clerk for 13 years in Tom Green County, where she retired at the age of 63.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bur Herron; four sons, Terry McMillan of San Angelo,  Texas, Michael McMillan of Corsicana,  Texas, David McMillan of San Angelo,  Texas, and Duane Herron of Olden,  Texas; along with daughter-in-laws, Judy McMillan of San Angelo and Laneta Herron of Olden,  Texas. She is also survived by one brother, Ronald Hart of Cleburne; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; several close and wonderful friends; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.

Many thanks to the Hospice of San Angelo, for their love and care to our family. The family asks that any memorials be made to Hospice of San Angelo in Wanda Gay Herron’s name.

RUBY (CORBELL) ALVINA WOOLEY

Ruby (Corbell) Alvina Wooley went to be with the Lord May 24, 2002.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Mitchell and Dr. Byron Orand officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Ruby was born Sept. 10, 1910, to Jack and Bertha Corbell in Eden,  Texas, in Concho County. She married Carroll Wooley Dec. 17, 1927, in Paint Rock. Ruby was a loving, caring mother, sister and friend. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist and was a charter member of Harris Avenue Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and loved crafts. She was a pianist and organist.

Mrs. Wooley was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, after 65 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Jack and Bertha Corbell; two brothers, E.B. (Burley) Corbell and Billy Jack Corbell; one sister, Winnie (Corbell) Niedzwiecki; a daughter, Doris in 1943; and two infants.

Ruby is survived by one sister, Jonnie Corbell of San Angelo; one brother, R.E. (Boots) Corbell and wife, Alma; two sister-in-laws, Annie Fay Corbell and Billie Faye Corbell; and a very special friend, Effie Goodner. Surviving nieces and nephews, Bonnie Broyles, Charles Lee Corbell, Judy Cain, Kayde Farquhar, Sheila Trahan, Jerry Don Niedzwiecki, Karen Hitt, Allan Corbell, Tonya Recalda, Joy Bowen, David Corbell, Billy Charles Fletcher, Brenda Yates, Bess Terhune, Bridgette George, Belinda Yarnell and Cheryl Pleas; several great-nieces and nephews; three great-great- nephews; and two great-great-nieces.

Pallbearers will be Charles Dennis, Ed Forehand, Curtis Morris, Mike Trahan, David Corbell and Merlin Hurt.

The family wishes to thank Regency House and VistaCare Family Hospice for their loving care and kindness during her last precious moments. It would be appreciated if memorials are given to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund or VistaCare Family Hospice.

MARY YBARRA

Mary Ybarra, 74, went to be with her heavenly Father and Savior Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002. Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Mary was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Big Lake,  Texas, to Rosendo Reyes and Pilar Hernandez Reyes. She is retired from the San Angelo Independent School District, spending 22 years at the Edison Junior High School campus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Adam Reyes and Albert Reyes.

Survivors include her husband, Jesus M. Ybarra; children, Abelardo (Abe) Villescaz and wife, Micaela, of Lansing, Mich.; Robert Villescaz and wife, Oralia, of San Angelo, Daniel Villescaz and wife, Mary, of Austin, Jose Villescaz and wife, Denise, of Keller, Sylvia Uriegas and husband, Alex, of Cedar Hill, Mary Luna of Houston, and Jesse Villescaz and wife, Denise, of Nashville, Tenn.; 23 grandchildren, who affectionately called her Grandma Angelo; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Manual Reyes of Plainview and Rosendo Reyes of Dallas; sisters, Eva Sanchez and Patsy Lopez of San Angelo; and many nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Roberta Hinshaw, Theresa and staff, Dr. Flynn, and the Shannon ICU staff for their care and compassion shown to their mother during her illness.

FRED WITTENBURG JR

LAMPASAS — Frederick Gregory Wittenburg Jr., 71, of Lometa died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his residence following a valiant battle with cancer.
Rosary and Mass will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lampasas. Service for the celebration of Fred’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Graveside service will follow in Lometa Senterfitt Cemetery, with a reception following at the Lometa Baptist Church.

Fred, the son of Fred Wittenburg Sr. and Zollie Mae Holland Wittenburg, was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Belton,  Texas. He married Mary Alice Close on May 24, 1952.

Survivors include Mary Alice Wittenburg of Lometa; daughters, Paula Wittenburg Sage and Mary Anna Wittenburg Beard; and sons, James Mark Wittenburg and William Michael Wittenburg. Fred is also survived by eight grandchildren, a brother, William E. Wittenburg, a sister, Mary Lou Wittenburg Parmer, brother, James Robert Wittenburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Lometa Good Shepherd Catholic Church, c/o Ruthy Wittenburg, H.C. 62-Box 67, Lometa, TX 76853.

KELMER LOYD WHITE

Kelmer Loyd  White, 80, of San Angelo died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Baptist Memorials Center.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, in  Johnson Street Church of Christ Chapel with Brian Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Harbour Lawn Memorial Park in Costa Mesa,  Calif.

Kelmer was born May 3, 1921, in Beardsly, Kan., to William Clarence and Annie Myrtle  White. He had been a resident of San Angelo for two years and lived in Corsicana,  Texas, for six years.

Kelmer was a retired cabinetmaker, a United States Army veteran, a member of Southgate Church of Christ and a member of VFW Post 1815.

Kelmer was married to Ruth Heinzerling on Feb. 22, 1942, in Los Angeles,  Calif. She preceded him in death in May 1998.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John Kelmer and Tennie  White of San Angelo and Loyd Eugene and Cindy  White of Hotsprings, Ark.; granddaughter, Rebecca Greebon and husband, Gregg, of New Braunfuls,  Texas; grandsons, John Avedis  White and wife, Jenny, of Jacksonville, N.C., Travis F.  White of Dallas and Kyle E.  White and wife, Willow, of  Whitefish, Mont.; granddaughter, Nicole  White of Hotsprings, Ark.; and great-grandson, John A.  White II of Jacksonville, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr. James C. Barnett, the staff and the caregivers at Baptist Memorials Center.

HERMAN C WALKER

Herman C. Walker, 88, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed from this life on Feb. 9, 2002, at Baptist Memorials Center.
He was born to R.O. and Eula Walker on Oct. 4, 1913, in Beaver County, Okla. He married Janet Phillips on Jan. 7, 1934, in San Angelo,  Texas and they had three children, Janna Sue, Phillip and Herman.

They ranched throughout West  Texas and he was ranch manager for T Half Circle Ranch of Sonora for 25 years. He was awarded honorary director for life of the  Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; daughter Janna Sue Lambert; and brothers, Glenn, Lloyd and George.

He is survived by sons, Phillip and wife, Marilyn, of San Angelo and Herman and wife, Deanne, of Eldorado; son-in-law, Roger Lambert of Jonesboro, Ark.; grandchildren, Michelle Fairchild of Ingram, Trey Walker of Midland, Susan Matthews of Dallas and Jim Walker of San Angelo; great-grandchildren, Braden and Austin Fairchild and Kaitlyn Walker; sister, Lois Wilmoth of San Angelo; a sister-in-law, Relda Walker of Midland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Patrick Officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity.

ORALIA V. TOVAR

Oralia V. Tovar, 63, of San Angelo died Monday in a local nursing facility.
Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with interment to follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Esmeralda Tovar of Sweetwater; son, Dionicio Tovar of San Angelo; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Armando Gonzales of San Angelo; grandchildren, Christina Villeda, Marcus Fuentes, Fernando Tovar and Eleni Tovar; and former daughter-in-law, Rosemary Tovar.

Her husband, Domingo Tovar, and sister, Sulema Gutierrez, preceded her in death.

The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to the staff of Park Plaza Nursing Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

DOUGLAS SNEAD

BRONTE — Douglas Snead was born Dec. 2, 1904, in Johnsville, Erath County,  Texas, to John Carson and Hattie Viola Bragg Snead. Douglas moved to Coke County at six months of age. He passed away Feb. 10, 2002, peacefully at his home with his family by his side.
Douglas married the love of his life, Virginia Helen Thetford on Aug. 19, 1930. Virginia preceded Douglas in death in 1995 after 65 years of marriage. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, J.C., Joe Long and Dewitt, and two sisters, Iva Snead and Ethel Nichols.

Douglas is survived by his sons, Ben Douglas Snead Jr. and wife, Jo, of Bastrop and Billy Doak Snead and wife, Kelley, of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Hattie Jane Roberts and husband, Norman, of Coahoma and Wanda Bell Parker and husband, Jerry, of Bronte; 13 grandchildren, Rancy Corbin of San Angelo, Sujane Schoenfield and Melinda Reed of Bronte, Gary Roberts of Cortez,  Colo., Terry Roberts of Winters, Sherri Whitten of Austin, Rachel McCarty of Austin, Emma Claire Snead of Nashville, Tenn., Ginger Lindsey of Fredericksburg, Julie Morrow of Miles, Ben Douglas Snead III of San Antonio, John Snead of Buda and J.T. Fort of Bastrop. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Fairview Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Paul Evans.

Douglas enjoyed farming and ranching. He retired from the First National Bank in Bronte in 1972, after 30 years. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Margaret Baker for all her help.

MARCELINA NORIEGA SANCHEZ
SONORA — Marcelina Noriega Sanchez died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. Rosary and prayer service was Friday, Feb. 8, at Kerbow Funeral Home. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sonora Cemetery.
Marcelina Noriega Sanchez was born June 2, 1921, in Del Rio,  Texas, to Jesus and Maria Noriega. Later the Noriega family established themselves in Sonora,  Texas, in the community known as Loma Alta. In 1941, Marcelina married Alfredo Flores Sanchez.

Marcelina Sanchez is survived by her husband, Alfredo Sanchez; her daughter, Alma Sanchez Pérez of San Antonio; her son, Hector Sanchez and wife, Carmen, of Sonora; her grandchildren, Marisol Pérez of San Antonio, Louie Pérez and wife, Amy, Stephanie Pérez Minjarez and husband, Jesse Rene, all of San Angelo, Melinda Castañeda and husband, Osbaldo, Adrian Sanchez and Anthony Sanchez of Sonora; and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Austin Lee Castañeda, Osbaldo Castañeda, Leandra Castañeda, Timmy Sanchez, Abigail Sanchez, Jordan Minjarez, Joshua Minjarez and Jonah Minjarez. She is also survived by her brother, Jesus Noriega of Sonora; sisters, Benecia Cavazos of Ballinger, Esperanza Arredondo and Guadalupe Jimenez, both of Sonora; and many nieces and nephews throughout  Texas and California.

Marcelina Noriega Sanchez will be remembered by everyone as a woman of faith, charity and as someone who loved her family and community.
