BERNICE WEBB

ATLANTA,  Texas - Bernice L. Webb, 80, of Atlanta died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, in Texarkana.

Mrs. Webb was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Guion,  Texas. She was retired from Red River Army Depot and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Webb.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters - in - law, Frank Webb Jr. and David A. and Donna Webb of Atlanta and John Gregory and Debra Webb of Aurora,  Colo.; three sisters, Lola Norman of Glenrose,  Texas, Mildred Peterson of San Diego,  Calif., and Jessie Mae McMeekin of Weatherford,  Texas; four grandchildren; six great - grandchildren; and two great - great - grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Smyrna Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Parker and Butch Blizzard officiating. Burial will be in Alamance Cemetery under direction of Hanner Funeral Service.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

THIREL CAREY

Thirel Madden Carey, 92, of Hooks,  Texas, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, in a Texarkana hospital.

Mrs. Carey was born Feb. 7, 1912, in Foreman, Ark. She was a homemaker and a member of Hooks First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Carey; and one daughter, Betty Green.

Survivors include two sons and daughters - in - law, Charles and Maxine Carey of Sherman,  Texas, and Sam and Lynda Carey of Redwater,  Texas; 10 grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; seven great - great - grandchildren; one special friend, Nellie Rowe of Texarkana; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Ford officiating. Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery, Atlanta,  Texas.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hooks First Baptist Church Building Fund.

LARRY FOWLER

Larry Wayne Fowler, 59, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, in a local hospital.

Mr. Fowler was born Oct. 14, 1944, in Texarkana, Ark. He was a veteran of the  Vietnam War.

Survivors include six children, Larry Fowler and Chris Fowler of Simms,  Texas, Lorri Day of Seattle, Kimberlea Garza and Bryan Cox of New Boston,  Texas, and Jennifer Treadway of Texarkana; his parents, Hazel Tidwell of Simms and Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Fowler of Texarkana; two brothers, Junior Fowler of Paris,  Texas, and Danny Fowler of New Boston; one sister, Donna Stewart of New Boston; 15 grandchildren; one great - grandchild; and a number of other relatives.

Memorial services with military honors will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Red Bayou Methodist Church, New Boston, with Dr. John N. Day and the Rev. Chris Fowler officiating. Burial will be under direction of East Funeral Home, Downtown.

Memorials may be made to Red Bayou Cemetery Fund, New Boston,  Texas.

GREGORY SMITH

MOUNT PLEASANT,  Texas - Gregory Wayne Smith, 48, of Mount Pleasant died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in Tyler,  Texas.

Mr. Smith was born April 2, 1955, in Mount Pleasant. He was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his mother, Billie Jo Minter of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Debra Grant of Mount Pleasant; two nieces, Katrina Harper of Dallas and Yuquchessia Grant of Mount Pleasant; two nephews, Roderick Grant and Michael Grant of Mount Pleasant; two great - nephews, Tydedrick Harper of Dallas and Micah Grant of Mount Pleasant; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant First COGIC with Elder Tommy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Searcy Cemetery under direction of Tumey Mortuary.

The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

KENNETH ROBERSON

LINDEN,  Texas - Kenneth L. Roberson, 38, of Atlanta,  Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, in a Clarksville,  Texas, hospital.

Mr. Roberson was born June 22, 1965, in Atlanta. He was a member of Hendrix Temple COGIC.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Howard Roberson; two stepdaughters, Denisha Ray and Jasmine Howard of Texarkana; one stepson, Leon Howard of Texarkana; his parents, Eddye Roberson of Atlanta and Arthur and Dorothy Roberson of Columbia, S.C.; three sisters, Elder Juanita Roberson of Atlanta, Wanda Verner of Cedar Hill,  Texas, and Angelia Howard of Columbia; two brothers, Arthur Roberson Jr. of Dallas and Cedric Roberson of DeSoto,  Texas; his grandmother, Vada Mickens of Atlanta; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be noon Saturday at St. Paul CME, Atlanta, with the Rev. C.L. Slade and Bishop C.D. Willis officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery under direction of Linden Funeral Home.

Wake services will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hendrix Temple COGIC.

ANDREW BERGAN

SULPHUR SPRINGS,  Texas - Andrew Herman Bergan, 93, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in a Texarkana hospital.

Mr. Bergan was born May 2, 1910. He was a retired keno boss at the Stardust Hotel, Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by two wives, Jean Zbrzeznj and Myrtle Kronneberg.

Survivors include one daughter and son - in - law, Diane and Patrick McDaniel of Texarkana; one brother and sister - in - law, Sylvester and Eileen Bergan of Antioch, Ill.; four grandchildren, Veronica  Whitehead, Cindy Flournoy, Andrea Burkland and Michael Purifoy; eight great - grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

The body will be cremated.

ERVA HOWELL

Erva Willamette Howell, 83, of Hooks,  Texas, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, in a New Boston,  Texas, nursing home.

Mrs. Howell was born April 8, 1920, in Waldron, Ark. She was a homemaker and a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Pilot Prairie Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her infant twins, Reginald Howell and Regina Howell.

Survivors include her husband, William Watson Howell of Hooks; two sons, Delbert McEntire of Nash,  Texas, and Mike Howell of Hooks; three daughters, Linda Berry of Madison, N.C., Judy Fagan of Redwater,  Texas, and Denese Freeman of Lawton, Okla.; one sister, Louise Lee of Mena, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great - grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at East Funeral Home, Moores Lane, Memorial Chapel with James Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family will be at 200 Andrews St., Hooks.

PAULINE CLARK

DeKALB,  Texas - Pauline Clark, 79, of DeKalb died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, in a Texarkana hospital.

Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Bowie County,  Texas. She was a homemaker, owner of Clark's Nursery and Landscaping and a member of Pinkham Memorial Missionary Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by two great - grandchildren, Emily Clark and Haleigh Walton.

Survivors include her husband, Lanan V. Clark Sr. of DeKalb; four sons, L.C. Clark, Gary Clark and Keith Clark of DeKalb and Terry Clark of Foreman, Ark.; two daughters, Patsy Parker and Wanda Bishop of DeKalb; two sisters, Iva McShane and Dorothy Grimes of Weatherford,  Texas; 15 grandchildren; 21 great - grandchildren; seven great - great - grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services were Feb. 24 at Bates - Rolf Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rufus Castro officiating. Burial was in Woodmen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Research or American Cancer Society, 5325 Summerhill Road, Texarkana,  Texas, 75503.

NADINE RICKETT

HUGHES SPRINGS,  Texas - Nadine Rickett, 82, of Longview,  Texas, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, in a Longview nursing home.

Mrs. Rickett was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Ontario, Wis. She was a teacher and a bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Rickett, in 1996.

Survivors include one son and daughter - in - law, Les and Joanne Rickett of Longview; one sister, Beth Hopkins of St. George, Utah; three grandchildren, Karen Butler, Linda Gunter and Mark Rickett; and four great - grandchildren, Lisa Butler, Thomas Gunter, Blake Gunter and Ryan Rickett.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today in Woodlawn Memorial Park with Dottie Bachtell officiating. Burial will be under direction of Reeder - Davis Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

MOUNT PLEASANT,  Texas - Rose M. Johnson, 54, of Mount Pleasant died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, in a Tyler,  Texas, hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Tumey Mortuary.

LOU HOPKINS

ATLANTA,  Texas - Lou Hopkins, 54, of Sugar Land,  Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in Sugar Land.

Mrs. Hopkins was born Aug. 3, 1949, in Atlanta. She was a computer technician and a member of Hood Brigade and Sugar Land First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Hopkins of Sugar Land; two sons, Benjamin Hopkins of Sugar Land and Samuel Hopkins of Houston; one brother, Arthur Detwiler of Atlanta; and one sister, Sherry Anne Detwiler - Cummins of Sacramento,  Calif.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Union Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. John Bingham officiating. Burial will be under direction of Hanner Funeral Home.

BILLIE GIBBONS

ATLANTA,  Texas - Billie Merle Gibbons, 76, of Longview,  Texas, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004.

Mr. Gibbons was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Atlanta. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration,a charter member of Judson Community Baptist Church in Longview and a World War II Navy, Army Air Corps and Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen Gibbons of Longview; one daughter and son - in - law, Barbara J. and Dr. Keith Rothra of Longview; two sons and one daughter - in - law Billie Wayne and Patricia Gibbons of Dallas and Steven L. Gibbons of  Oklahoma City; one brother, Tom Gibbons of New Mexico; six grandchildren; and nine great - grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hanner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Keith A. Rothra officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Hardy Deshun Sheppard Jr. of Bivins,  Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in a Shreveport, La., hospital.
