LaCour
Vera Ellen LaCour, 31, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Stockton officiating.
Ms. LaCour was born here on Sept. 14, 1969, to Mary Ellen (Ence) and Pascal LaCour.
Survivors include her parents, Pascal and Mary Ellen LaCour; a stepsister, Donna Moses; a nephew, James Jackson, all of Beeville; two uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd LaCour of Village Mills and Mr. and Mrs. Walter LaCour of Bishop; and numerous cousins.

Murphy
Curtis Raymond Murphy, 103, of Kenedy died Saturday, March 31, 2001, in a hospital there. He was born Jan. 12, 1898, in Gonzales to James and Katherine (McCoy) Murphy. He married Elizabeth Harris on Dec. 18, 1927, in Tuleta.
A resident of the Green community for 64 years, he had been engaged in farming, ranching and the oil business. Mr. Murphy was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenedy.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Martha and Leroy Angermiller of Baytown and Marianna and Clarence Stockton of Benton, Ark.; a son, Curtis R. “Pat” Murphy Jr. and wife Carolyn of Arlington; three granddaughters, Margaret Stockton Denton of Pinebluff, Ark., Donna Stockton Brown of Benton, Ark., Gloria Angermiller Graves of Highland and Sandy Angermiller Hicks of Baytown; and five great-grandchildren, Mark Denton, Jason and Justin Graves, Clint Brown and Ashley Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth, on March 28, 1977; his stepmother, Elva Murphy; four sisters, Alberta Smith, Ennis Murphy, Cleo Richards, Annie Heider; a half sister, Jewel Bright; and two brothers, Howard and Carlos “Times” Murphy.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy, with the Rev. Tim Williams officiating.
Burial followed in the Kenedy City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason, Justin and Paul Graves, Dallas Hicks, John Harris and Don Noah.

O’Hara
The Very Rev. Robert E. O’Hara, MSF, died Friday, March 30, 2001, in San Antonio. He was 62. He was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Chicago, Ill., to Margaret (Keenan) and Raymond T. O’Hara Sr.
Rev. O’Hara was the provincial of the North American Province of the Missionaries of the Holy Family. He made his first profession on Aug. 15, 1959, in Hillman, Minn., and was ordained on April 3, 1965, in St. Louis, Mo. He served numerous parishes, beginning with St. Wenceslaus in St. Louis from April 1965 to August 1965. He also served in Jourdanton; O’Campo, Mexico; Charlotte; Beeville (October 1972-January 1976); Collinsville, Ill.; Granite City, Ill.; Donna; and New Braunfels.
Survivors include three brothers, Raymond T. O’Hara Jr. and wife Rose; Brother Patrick O’Hara, MSC; and William O’Hara and wife Rosemary; two sisters, Sharon Lange and husband Robert and Mary Lesko and husband Dennis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maureen Mullaney; and his grandparents, Patrick and Margaret O’Hara.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Missionaries of the Holy Family, 210 El Rancho Way, San Antonio, TX 78209.
Arrangements were under the direction of Roy Akers Funeral Chapels in San Antonio.

Stanke
Edgar Henry Stanke Sr., 84, died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Brenham.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons chapel. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Don  Taylor officiating.
Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Steve Stanke, Ray Stanke II, Mark Drees, Robert Drees, Robert Doubrava Jr. and Joe Linnstaedter.
Mr. Stanke was born April 18, 1916, in Burlington to Minnie (Richter) and Ernest Stanke. He married Mildred Moon on April 9, 1945, in Greenville, S.C. A resident of Beeville since 1965, he was an oil field worker, retired from Fish Oil Well Services. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Stanke of Beeville and Loretta Drees and Linda Stanke, both of Brenham; three sons, Edgar Jr. and Darrell Stanke, both of Brenham, and Michael Stanke of Beeville; three brothers, Ben Stanke of Marlin, Raymond Stanke of Temple and Ernest Stanke of Marquez; two sisters, Hilda Paris of Marlin and Elsa Carlisle of Whitney; and two grandchildren, Mark and Kelli Drees.

Thomas
Jerry Kenneth Thomas, 56, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at his home here.
The funeral was held at 2 o’clock this afternoon (Wednesday) at the Galloway & Sons chapel, with Joe Cox officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Thomas was born here on June 7, 1944, to Katherine Lois (Fox) and John P. Thomas Sr. He was employed as a car dealer.
Survivors include his father, John P. Thomas Sr. of Beeville; a son, Jerry Don Thomas; a daughter, Gina Michelle Thomas Kay; a grandson, Bishop Townsend Thomas, all of El Paso; a brother, John P. Thomas Jr. of Victoria; and three sisters, Barbara Vickery and Linda Ashcraft, both of Corpus Christi, and Dianna  Taylor of Beeville.

Brown
Almus J. “A.J.” Brown, 70, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001. He was born on April 20, 1931, in Purvis, Miss., to Nannie Leruth and Almus Cecil Brown. He served as a ranger with the U.S. Army and after his military tour returned to  Texas. He retired from the  Texas Department of Transportation after 37 years. He was a member of the Lutheran church and the Bishop Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Eveline; three daughters, Claudia Ann Brown, Katherine Dee Guerra and Patricia Carline Chaffin; seven grandchildren, all of Corpus Christi; and a sister, Cecile Horton of Jacksonville, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Galilean Lutheran church in Corpus Christi.
Arrangements are under the direction of Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.

Ford
Gladis Ford, 94, of Kenedy died there Wednesday, May 30, 2001.
Visitation was scheduled Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Angelus Funeral Home chapel.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pawnee Baptist Church, with the Rev. Homer Hanna officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pawnee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Floyd Wolff, Ray Wolff, Ross Ballard, Robert Ford, Glen Ford and Roger Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Tindol, Ray Tindol, Jack Stewart, Dr. James Stewart, John Davidson and Alvin O’Neal.
Mrs. Ford was born Sept. 5, 1906, in Biloxi, Miss., to Janie (Brewer) and Edgar F. Ray. She married William Henry Ford here on Oct. 31, 1930. She was a member of the Pawnee Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Patrick Henry Ford; a daughter, Edna Mae Ford; three brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Norman Kallies and Billie Jo and Bennie Wolff, all of Stockdale; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Thoms
Former Three Rivers resident Norma Thoms died Wednesday morning, May 30, 2001, at her home in Carmel,  Calif. She was the sister of Helen Chesnutt of Beeville.
Her memorial service is pending.

Langham
Jerry R. Langham, 59, died at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Beeville Memorial Park, with Carl Dixon officiating.
Mr. Langham was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Harlingen to Essie (Duncan) and Jack Langham. He married Lafawn Worster on April 24, 1965, in Pensacola, Fla. A 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served two tours in Vietnam. He also was a bus driver for the Beeville ISD.
Survivors include his wife, Lafawn Langham of Beeville; a daughter, Evonne Steffens of Poteet; a son, Jerry R. Langham Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four granddaughters, Tabitha and Maranda  Taylor and Samantha and Cassandra Steffens; his mother, Essie Walk of Pharr; three sisters, Faye Utecht of San Antonio, Betty Hinchman of Houston and Janie Thompson of McAllen; and one brother, Larry Langham of Harlingen.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Faye Dixon.

Treviño
Richard L. Treviño, 76, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in a Corpus Christi hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Beeville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Treviño, and a brother, Roger L. Treviño.
He opened Richard’s Record Shop in 1954, and in addition to his store, he was a master of ceremonies at theaters and dance halls in the 1940s and 1950s. He also was a custom leather worker, making saddles, belts and holsters. In 1975, he changed his store to Richard’s Leather Shop to focus solely on the leather business. He retired after 46 years.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Maria Elena Treviño; six children, Martha (Tony) DeBenedetto, Richard G. (Veronica) Treviño and David Treviño, all of Houston, and Antonio (Kay) Treviño, Frank (Elizabeth) Treviño and Elizabeth (Paul) Bernal, all of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Consuelo Delgado of Beeville and Trini Gonzales of Houston; and five grandchildren, Justin and Haley Bernal, Trey Treviño, John Michael Treviño and Maegan DeBenedetto.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Funeral Home, Holly Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. Burial followed in Seaside Memorial Park.

Burchfield
Former Beeville resident Jewel Calvin Burchfield, 69, of Crandall, Ga., died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001. He was born Sept. 10, 1932, in Palestine to Burdon Eugene and Eunice Mae (Griffin) Burchfield. The family later moved to Berclair and he was a graduate of A.C.  Jones High School.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served 22 years. He served during the occupation of Germany, the Korean War and  Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mozelle Phillips Burchfield; a son, David Calvin Burchfield; his parents; and a sister, Linnie Raspbeary.
Survivors include three daughters, Melissa Burchfield, Teresa Boyd and Nancy Adams, all of Crandall; a son, James Burchfield of Crandall; three sisters, Winnie Chesnutt McCarrell of Shiner, formerly of Normanna, Leck Wilson of Kingsville and Doris Scofield of Bullhead City, Ariz.; three brothers, Gene Burchfield of Weed,  Calif., Kenneth Burchfield of Purvis, Miss., and Joe “Charlie” Burchfield of Sealy; and four grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Peeples Funeral Home chapel in Chatsworth, Ga., with the Air Force chaplain officiating.
Burial with full military honors followed in the Sumach Cumberland Cemetery.
