Latham
Mildred Ann Latham, 66, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002.
The funeral was held at 2 o’clock this afternoon (Wednesday) at the Galloway & Sons chapel in George West, with the Rev. Steve Briggs officiating.
Burial followed in the Latham Cemetery in the Anna Rose community in McMullen County.
Mrs. Latham was born March 30, 1935, in Hargill to Gladys (Smith) and Pete Hunt. She married Floyd C. Latham on July 15, 1952, in Falfurrias. She had resided on the George West Ranch in McMullen County’s Anna Rose community for 16 years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd C. Latham of George West; two sons, David Latham and wife Cindy of Tilden and Ronald Latham and wife Beverly of Sinton; a daughter, Darla Lopez and husband Michael of Spring; a sister, Katy Abbott and husband Shawver of Strawn; two brothers, Henry Hunt and wife Nancy of San Antonio and Nelson Hunt and wife Charlotte of Kermit; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous other relatives.
Mrs. Latham was preceded in death by a son, Floyd C. Latham Jr.

Taylor
Mary Frances McGuffin Taylor, 85, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002. She was born Nov. 7, 1916, and lived most of her life in Dinero and Beeville before moving to San Antonio.
Mrs. Taylor attended Texas Woman’s University and The University of Texas at Austin, where she was a Bluebonnet Belle.
She worked for the U.S. Post Office here for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in George West and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church here.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindi Taylor Krier and husband Joe of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made to St. Philip’s Church or St. Philip’s School in Beeville, the Church of the Good Shepherd in George West or the Barshop Center for Longevity and Aging at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Philip’s Church. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville.

Terry
Johnathan Paul Terry, 2, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002.
A graveside service and burial were held at 1 p.m. Monday in Glenwood Cemetery.
Johnathan was born March 5, 1999, in Beeville to Paula Terry Sexton and Robert Sexton.
Survivors include his mother, Paula Terry Sexton; his father, Robert Sexton; two brothers, David and Dylan Keller; one sister, Destiny Sexton; maternal grandparents, Paul L. Terry and Nancy Barrow and husband Edgar Watts; paternal grandparents, Beverly Alvarez and husband Adam; great-grandmothers, Lupe Massey and Modene Terry; aunts, Leeann Burt, Lacy Etheridge, Susan Terry and Carolyn Terry; and uncles, Brian, Edwin and Leon Terry, Jason Burt and Randy Sexton.

Viele
J.A. Viele, 90, of Wichita, Kan., died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita.
Born Nov. 3, 1911, in Avila, Mo., to Ralph and Lena (Simmons) Veile, he married Dorothy Moore in 1955 in Texas. She preceded him in death in 1996. Mr. Veile was a corporate pilot for the West Corp. in Texas and a member of the Wichita Lodge No.99 AF&AM.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Yvonne McGrew of Wichita; a nephew; and three nieces.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 7 o’clock this evening (Wednesday) at the Kansas Masonic Home chapel. Memorials have been established with the Kansas Masonic Home and Hospice Care of Kansas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culbertson-Smith Mortuary of Wichita.
Bush
Mary Kathryn Church Bush, 84, of Lytle died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in New Orleans, La. A member of a South Texas pioneer ranching family, she was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Oakville to Frank Lee and Verda Lee (Brown) Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Edward Milton Bush.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Edward Church and Cynthia Bush of New Orleans, La.; and a niece, Karen McKinney Johnston of Austin.
Mrs. Bush was a member of the Colonial Dames of America, the Jamestown Society and U.S. Daughters of 1812.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lytle Masonic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tondre-Guinn in Castroville.
Grigar
Mary Frances Grigar, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in League City. She was born Dec. 6, 1924, to Josef and Frances Oujesky. She was a first generation American, whose relatives arrived here from the former Czechoslovakia. She met her husband, Rudolph John Grigar, at a Czech lodge and they were married in July 1941.
Mrs. Grigar spent most of her life in Houston and later, as an adult, moved to Pearland. She worked as a graphic artist for Data Duplicators and the Exxon Corp., the former of which involved her in projects for NASA. She later joined her husband in their sporting goods store and guide fishing business. After retirement, the Grigars moved to Pettus where their eldest daughter lived.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years; and her daughter, Donna, who died of cancer in March 2000.
Survivors include her other three children, Dene, Rudy Jr. and Randy; nine grandchildren, Victor, Jamet, Desiree, Danet, Rudy John, Carolyn, Allie, Jarrod and Kylie; four great-grandchildren, Desiree, Victor, Robin and James; two sisters, Edith and Emily; and a brother, Charles.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, beginning with a Catholic Mass at St. Helen’s Church in Pearland at 1 p.m., followed by a graveside commemoration at Forest Park Funeral Home on Lawndale Drive.
Malone
James Carl Malone, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at his home here.
Visitation was scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Angelus Funeral Home chapel.
A graveside service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Malone was born on Feb. 26, 1914, in Beeville to Laura (Grissom) and Walter Malone. He married Mildred Ingram here in 1933. He was a retired oil field pusher for the Allen Taylor Construction Co.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Ross of Corpus Christi, Carol Henderson of Chula Vista, Calif., and Shirley Shannon of Tuleta; a son, James Malone of Ogden, Utah; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Carabajal
Jose Angel “Chanque” Carabajal, 58, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002. He was born May 25, 1943, in Tuleta and was self-employed as a mechanic. He was a member of the Catholic church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angelita Carabajal.
Survivors include his father, Pedro Carabajal of Beeville; his mother, Maria Arrisola Estrada of Hereford; one daughter, Rosa Maria Carabajal Delgado of Pearland; six sisters, Yolanda Soto, Carolina Tijerina and Jesusa Cantu, all of Hereford, Olga Cantu of Amarillo, Sylvia Rodriguez of Houston and Alicia Medina of Baytown; three brothers, Daniel Perez and Paul Estrada Jr., both of Hereford, and Leo Carabajal of Beeville; four grandchildren, Uvaldo Aguilar and Artemio, Arthur and Maria E. Delgado; and one great-grandson, Andrew A. Aguilar.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 o’clock this morning (Wednesday) at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating.
Burial followed in Normanna’s Del Bosque Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Estrada, Uvaldo Aguilar, Artemio Delgado, Arthur Delgado, Eric Frausto and Ronnie Rico.
Garcia
Consuelo R. Garcia, 55, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in a Corpus Christi hospital, following a short illness. She was born in Robstown and had resided in Beeville for the past 15 years, moving here from Odem. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by a daughter, Elvira Garcia.
Survivors include her husband, Abdon Garcia of Sinton; eight sons, Abdon Garcia Jr. of Skidmore, Felipe and Jose M. Garcia, both of Sinton, Pedro and Freddie Garcia, both of Rosenberg, George Garcia of Corpus Christi and Sergio and Saul Garcia, both of Beeville; seven daughters, Maria Consuelo Garcia and Gracie Garcia, both of Corpus Christi, Norma Lee Garcia of Rosenberg, Maria D. Garcia and Jesusa G. Gomez, both of Odem, Jessica Garcia of Beeville and Donna Garcia of Crystal City; four brothers, Carlos Garcia of St. Paul, Johnny and Jose Angel Garcia, both of Odem, and Thomas Garcia of Mathis; five sisters, Esperanza Cruz of Brazoria, Rosa Segovia of Freeport, Manuela Medina of Marble Falls, Jesusa Tobar of Sinton and Janie Lara of Rosenberg; and 38 grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home chapel in Sinton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Odem.
Burial will follow in Odem’s San Pedro Cemetery.
Hickey
Estelle Agnes Hickey, 96, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. She was the mother of Charles L. Hickey of Beeville.
Mrs. Hickey was born May 18, 1905, in Sweet Home and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Austin. She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Alice since 1933 and was a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Altar Society, Alice Deanery and St. Elizabeth’s Order of Martha. She also was a past president of the Corpus Christi Diocesan Council of the National Council of Catholic Women.
Other organizations in which she was involved include the KJZT, the Alice Firemen’s Auxiliary, Alice Garden Club and St. Vincent de Paul.
She was educational chairman of the Alice Council for Retarded Children, past president of the Alice Emergency Relief Fund, a life member of the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers and past chairman of the Red Cross Camp and Hospital. She was a volunteer at Alice P&S Hospital for many years. She received the Pro Eccleseia et Pontifice Medal from Pope John XXIII in 1964 in recognition of her service to the Catholic church and the country, the Bishop Drury Medal in 1986 and was named outstanding senior citizen of Jim Wells County in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry X. Hickey Sr.; a granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Klare; a grandson, Michael Wayne Klare; a great-grandson, Brooks X. Miketinek; two sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Imogene Hickey Klare of Victoria; three sons, Perry X. Hickey Jr. and wife Tommie of Houston, Dennis E. Hickey and wife Jeannine of San Antonio and Charles L. Hickey and wife Kay of Beeville; a brother, Eugene Valenta of Hallsville; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice.
Burial followed in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Perry Hickey Jr., Dennis Hickey, Charles Hickey, Phillip Hickey, Steven Hickey, Ronald Hickey, Craig Hickey and David Hickey.
