Millikin
Former Beeville resident Elizabeth Faith Dodgen Millikin, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at her home in Fischer. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church here.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O.K. Fuller, 805 E. Inez St., on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Following the memorial service, a reception will be held at the First Presbyterian Church’s Activities Center.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Beeville, Hope Hospice in New Braunfels, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center of Houston or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Morris
Bennett Morris, 82, of Tarpley died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in a Kerrville nursing center. A resident of Tarpley for 15 years, he previously lived in Beeville. He was born in Tacoma, Wash., on April 11, 1919, to Rastus and Nannie Elizabeth (Taylor) Fulton. He was a retired manager of a propane sales company. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a survivor of the Normandy Invasion. He married Susie Loleta Underwood in March 1946 in Beeville. She preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 1996. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Young of Kerrville, Susie Craig of Laguna Nigel,  Calif., and Carole Morris of Napa,  Calif.; a brother, Oliver Morris of Tuleta; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Tapley Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Craig officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Schiwitz
W.L. “Bill” Schiwitz, 80, of Tynan died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. He was born June 22, 1921, in Uhland. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. A Tynan resident for 49 years, he was a television repair technician.
Survivors include his wife, Elna Schiwitz of Tynan; a daughter, Sandra Saynes of Glen Rose; a sister, Ruth Knobloch of Seguin; a granddaughter, Lauren Groff of Glen Rose; and a grandson, Travis Groff of Plano.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dobie Funeral Home chapel in Mathis. Burial will follow in Tynan’s Waldheim Cemetery.

Smith
Wanda P. Smith, 66, of Kingsland died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. She was born to Robert Shaw and Myrtle (Copus) Shaw on March 2, 1935, in Paducah.
Mrs. Smith married Raymond Roy Smith on April 4, 1954, in George West. She was a member of the Kingsland VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Bryan R. Smith of Beeville, Thomas A. Smith (Becky) of Alice, Vicki Gonzales (Willie) and George W. Smith, all of Kingsland; a stepson, Wesley S. Smith (Amy) of  Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Billy R. Shaw (Pauline) of Pool, Willard Shaw (Glenette) of Kerrville, Ivan Shaw (Claris) of Mathis, Lawrence Shaw (Joyce) of Park City, Ill.; sisters, Bonnie Griffith (Leighton) of George West and Betty Skidmore (Bill) of Mission; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Roy Smith; and two brothers, W.W. “Wimpy” Shaw and Kenneth “Shorty” Shaw.
Visitation was held Tuesday at the Putnam Funeral Home. The funeral was held at 10 o’clock this morning (Wednesday) at the Galloway & Sons chapel in Three Rivers. Interment followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph McCaleb, Noe Gonzales, Bob Fulbright, Kal Ratliff, Josh Lynch and Billy Joe Skidmore. Honorary pallbearers were her sons-in-law, brothers-in-law and grandsons.
Arrangements were under the direction of Putnam Funeral Home, Kingsland, and Galloway & Sons Funeral Directors, Three Rivers.

Byars
Ruby Lea Easley Byars, 80, a homemaker, retired civil service employee and member of the Church of Christ, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at her daughter’s home in Portland.
Mrs. Byars was born in Temple on March 24, 1921, and was the daughter of Henry and Ruth Easley who preceded her in death. She married Kenneth Byars on Oct. 8, 1938, in Bryan. They moved to Beeville in 1943. Her husband preceded her in death on June 22, 1999, after more than 60 years of marriage.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Wolf of Reno, Nev., and Carolyn Fox of Portland; one son, Kenneth Byars and wife Paula of Beeville; eight grandchildren, Michael and wife Allie Pape of Dayton, Cynthia Thomas of Reno, Nev., Gina and husband Joe Tomma of Scotsdale, Ariz., Wendi and husband Mike Bussard of Ingleside, Greg and wife Brandi D’Amore of North Padre Island, Stormy Byars and husband David and Angela Byars, all of Beeville, and Troy Byars of Livingston; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was scheduled for Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Beeville Memorial Park with Doyal Childress officiating.

Mendoza
Jovita Mendoza, 78, formerly of Beeville, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, in Houston.
She was born in Goliad on Sept. 23, 1923. Mrs. Mendoza is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gilberto Mendoza; three daughters, Juanita Cano, Herminia Garza and Ofelia Degollado; two sons, Felipe Mendoza and Gilberto Mendoza Jr.; one brother, Salvador Sandoval; three sisters, Beatrice Cisneros, Margarita Vela and Maria Rodriguez; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Refugia Sandoval, her brother, Anastacio Sandoval, and a sister, Elisa Sandoval.
Funeral Mass was held on Jan. 4 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Channelview. Interment followed in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
Funeral arrangements were by San Jacinto Funeral Home & Cemetery.

Millikin
Elizabeth Faith Dodgen Millikin, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at her residence at Fischer.
Mrs. Millikin was born in Blanco on Jan. 21, 1930, and was married to James Richard Millikin, formerly a certified public accountant in Beeville. She was the youngest of 10 children of Frank and Elitha Shelley Dodgen. She attended public schools in Blanco and Southwest  Texas State Teachers College at San Marcos where she graduated in 1951.
Mrs. Millikin met her husband in George West while she was teaching school. They married Aug. 8, 1953. She moved to Beeville and taught school one year before leaving the profession to be a full-time mother to her four children.
The Millikins built a home in the Hill Country she loved and moved to Fischer in 1997 where she lived until her death. They had lived together in Beeville 44 years.
Mrs. Millikin was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Beeville, Rosetta Club, Wednesday Luncheon Club, Home Arts Club, Birthday Club and Community Concerts. She also was involved in other organizations, was an avid tennis player and enjoyed outdoor activities, her friends and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, James Millikin of Fischer; three sons, Richard and wife Tege of Longview, Joel of Los Angeles,  Calif., and Michael of Austin; a daughter, Marcia of Austin; grandchildren Ryan and Conner Millikin of Longview and Bryce and Lucas Nayden of Austin; two sisters, Ann Beard of LaMesa,  Calif., and Martha Cowan of Seguin; a brother, Donald Keith Dodgen of Seguin; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews
A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Beeville.
Memorials may be made to the First Presibyterian Church of Beeville, Hope Hospice in New Braunfels, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center of Houston or a charity of choice.

Skidmore
James William Skidmore, 76, of Pleasanton died Tuesday, March 12, 2002. Prior to March 8, 2001, he lived in Beeville.
A memorial service is set for today (Saturday) at 4 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, with the Rev. Paul Hull officiating. The family will have a private family burial following the service.
He was born on April 20, 1925 in Blakely. Mr. Skidmore was a U.S. steel salesman and worked in the oil field supply industry. He was a 32° Mason of the Beeville Lodge. He was also a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Marines Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Skidmore of Pleasanton; a son James Ross Chaddock and wife Kay of Jourdanton; two daughters, Linda Woodruff and husband Don of Trinity, and Sandra Haugen and husband Danny of Pleasanton; a brother, Bill Skidmore of Mission; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Branham
Jimmy Boyd Branham, 67, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 in a Dallas hospital.
Funeral services were held today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Ark. Burial followed in Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford, Ark. A viewing was held Friday.
Pallbearers were Flynn Williams, James Harris, Jason Broom, David Brown, Kevin Wood and Charles Hillburn.
He was retired from El Paso Natural Gas after working for 35 years. At the time of his death, he was living in Barling, Ark.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Branham of Beeville; four daughters, Audrey Lee Gibbs of Plano, Paula Jean Holliday of Ripley, Miss., Valorie Lynn Blevins of Skiatook, Ok. and Karla Renee Chapman of Eunice, N.M.; a son, Kevin Branham of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Thelma Harris of Greenwood, Ark., Sue Hitt of Danville, Ark. and Shirley Wohl of Barling, Ark.; four brothers, Billy Branham of Cypress,  Calif., Raymond Branham of Tulsa, Ok., Leroy Branham of Spiro, Ok. and Tommy Branham of Danville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Galindo
Viola Galindo, 86, died Thursday, March 28, 2002. Rosary was recited Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Trevińo Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were scheduled for today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at the same location, with Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Mrs. Galindo was born in Beeville Feb. 4, 1916 to Richard  Taylor and Francisca Olivarez. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita (Gilbert) Estrada of Beeville; two sons, Richard (Alicia) Galindo of Corpus Christi and Bobby (Ofelia) Galindo of Beeville; four grandchildren, David and Coy Estrada, Ricky Galindo and Cindy Bueno and two great-grandchildren, Amber Danielle and Alexis Renee Bueno.

Green
Jackie Dewitt Green, 57, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Houston’s M.D. Anderson Hospital, following a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma cancer.
Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sinton. Burial will follow in the Gussettville Cemetery near George West.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Messer, Bob Brown, Dickie Greenwood, Wade Green, Justin Green and Toby Fojtik.
Mr. Green was born Feb. 19, 1945 in Olney to Abner Dewitt and Marion Lee Green. He grew up on his family ranch near Goree. He married Nancy Wright on Sept. 20, 1970 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sinton.
He graduated as valedictorian of his 1963 Goree High School class. He received his degree in accounting from  Texas Tech University in 1966. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the  Vietnam War. Before moving to the Mathis area he was an administrator of Dallas Medical and Surgical Clinic and Hospital in Dallas.
After moving to this area in 1980, Mr. Green opened an accounting practice. In 1986 he began a teaching career at Mathis High School, where he taught economics, accounting and business law.
Mr. Green was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tynan, where he had served as a church council member and president. He was an avid golfer, hunter and supporter of Mathis High School football and track.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Marion Lee Kinser Green in 1996 and Abner Dewitt Green in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Swinney Switch; one brother, Dickie (Peggy) Green of Magnolia; one sister, Beckie (Charles) Horry of Wichita Falls; two uncles, Harrell Green of Midland and Fred Green of Graham; one aunt, Margarette Dozier of Graham; one niece, Wendy Fojtik of Dallas; three nephews, Wade (Shelly) Green of Ft. Worth; Justin Green of Lawton, Ok. and Toby (Nikki) Fojtik of Grand Prairie; twin great-nephews, Brenden and Kyle Green of Ft. Worth and several cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mathis unit of the American Cancer Society.
