Benito P. Garza Sr., 71, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary was to be recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Fred Schauer III, Bobby Schauer, Kenneth Schauer, Raul Garza Jr., Juan Garza and Hilton Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Farias, David Garcia Jr., Espirio Gomez Sr. and Henry Davis.
Mr. Garza was born on April 9, 1931, in Clareville, to Pedro and Antonia (Peralta) Garza. He married Amada Gutierrez in Beeville on Dec. 17, 1960. He resided in Beeville and was retired from Bee Agricultural Co., where he had worked for 22 years. He was a member of St. James.
Survivors include his wife, Amada Gutierrez Garza of Beeville; six daughters, Mary Arredondo and Nelda Ulrich, both of Beeville, Rosa Amelia Rodriguez of Utah, Janie Gonzales of Lamesa, Olivia Reis of San Antonio and Olga Flores of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Benito Garza Jr. of Beeville and Armando Garza of Temple; four brothers, Raul Garza Sr. and Margarito Garza Sr., both of Beeville, Domingo Garza of Refugio and Antonio Garza of Corpus Christi; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Peters
Martha Elizabeth Meinrath Peters of San Antonio died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002.
A resident of San Antonio for many years, she was born on Dec. 11, 1920 in Beeville to John and Natalie (Henke) Meinrath. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church of San Antonio.
She married George M. Peters Jr. on July 16, 1949. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2001.
Survivors include her three sons, Michael (Glenda) Peters of DeSoto, Stanley Peters of Kilgore and Steven (Lissa) Peters; two grandchildren, Sarah and Travis Peters of Kerrville; a sister, Helen (Bob) Gayle of Beeville; six nephews and a niece.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Gregory’s in San Antonio, with Father Michael O’Gorman officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.
Arrangements were handled through Mission Park Funeral Home.

Rios
Services are pending at Treviño Funeral Home for Daniel (La Coyota) Rios, 83, who died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1919, in Nordheim to Silvestre and Josefa (Rodriguez) Rios. He was a former Beeville resident and a professional baseball player and was a member of the Hall of Fames in Laredo and McAllen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Rosaura (Rosa) Martinez, Enriqueta Rios, Ofelia and Fidela Rios; and five brothers, Silvestre Rios Jr., Filomeno, Francisco, Juan and Rafael Rios.
Survivors include his wife, son and daughter; a sister, Susie Perez of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews from Beeville.

Rocha
Toribio Rocha, 92, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002. He was born on Dec. 13, 1909 in Beeville. Mr. Rocha was retired after 41 years with the  Texas Highway Department.
Rosary was to be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at Our Lady of Victory with Father Richard Gonzales officiating.

Maldonado
Abel Bazan Maldonado Sr., 86, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1916, in Beeville to Manuel and Margarita (Bazan) Maldonado. He married his wife, Carmen Garcia Maldonado, on June 19, 1944. He was a retired power line worker with Lay Construction Co.
Mr. Maldonado was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Garcia Maldonado of Beeville; six sons, Jesse (Linda) Maldonado, Abel Maldonado Jr., Ricky Maldonado and Pedro (Patricia) Maldonado, all of Beeville, Raul (Tomasita) Maldonado of Houston and Reynaldo Maldonado of Freer; six daughters, Margarita (Jose V.) Salazar, Estolia (Victor) Contreras, Adelita (Jose J.) Salazar, Esther (Felipe) Martinez, Teresita (Ruben) Alonso and Andrea Maldonado (David) Elizalde, all of Beeville; a brother, Frank (Fermana) Maldonado of Beeville; 38 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (today) at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers were Mr. Maldonado’s sons and honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, Frank Armijo, John Contreras, Joe Anthony Salazar, Micheal Martinez, David Lee Maldonado and Roland Maldonado.

Martinez
Guadalupe Ruiz Martinez, 64, of Beeville died on Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Corpus Christi.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1938, in Orange Grove to Priciliano and Maria (Ruiz) Martinez. He was a self-employed carpenter, and a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He enjoyed being a musician. He played several different instruments and played with the group, El Guesto Musical.
Visitation was held Wednesday (today) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was to be recited Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock at the same location.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers will be Theodoro Garza Jr., Mario Muñoz, Johnny Borrego, David Flores, John Martinez and Freddie Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Luz Garza and Luis Tamez.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Martinez of Beeville and Jerry Martinez of Mathis; two daughters, Betty Martinez of Beeville and Juanita Martinez of Mathis; his mother, Maria Martinez of Beeville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Adan Martinez of Beeville; and seven sisters, Esperanza Ashton of Dallas and Olivia Borrego, Rosa Munoz, Leonora Gonzales, Dora Garza, Celia Gutierrez and Maria Bonham, all of Beeville.

Moore
Mary J. Bryan Moore, 50, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Visitation was held Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Matthew, Ernest and Michael Moore and Ralph, Kyle and Hollis Stubenthal. Honorary pallbearers were Joe and Anita Linnstaedter, Dr. Grady C. Hogue Jr., Dr. Joseph Larakers and all the staff at Beeville Family Practice.
Mrs. Moore was born on Aug. 23, 1952, in Amarillo to Hollis Edward and Dorothy Nadine (Thompson) Bryan. She served in the U.S. Army and was employed as a dental technician. She was a member of St. Joseph’s.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Travis Alan Bryan, who died on Jan. 31, 1994.
She is survived by three sons, Ernest Allen Moore of Beeville and Matthew Edward and Michael David Moore, both of San Antonio; her parents, Hollis E. and Dorothy Bryan of Beeville; two sisters, Cindy Dougherty of Beeville and Vickie Stubenthal of Skidmore; her godmother, Sister Mary Joseph Brigin, SOLT; six nephews; three nieces; and four great-nephews.

Salazar
Delfina Rivera Salazar, 81, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002.
She was born on July 20, 1921, in Gonzales to Rafael and Consuelo (Hinojosa) Rivera. She and her husband, Cipriano Salazar Sr., had been married 62 years. She was a retired clerk with Cooper Industry.
Mrs. Sal-azar was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Josefina Salazar, and a son, Rene Ruben Salazar.
Survivors include her husband, Cipriano Salazar Sr. of Beeville; Placido Cipriano (Guadalupe) Salazar Jr. of Houston and Gilbert Serjio (Janie) Salazar of Beeville, formerly of Waco; three daughters, Silvia (Arge Miro) Garcia of Livingston, Daria Nina (Harold) Denton of Ponchatoula, La., and Josie S. (Raul) Mateos of Deer Park; a brother, Enrique Rivera of Corpus Christi; one sister, Consuelo Galvan of Jourdanton; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.
Visitation was held on Tuesday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were scheduled Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the same location, with the Rev. Aaron Guajardo officiating. Burial was to follow in the Mineral Cemetery.
Special music at the cemetery was to include “Amazing Grace” and “Un Dia a La Vez.”

Boyd
Donald T. Boyd Sr., 75, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. Visitation was held Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services were held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at Tynan’s Waldheim Cemetery.
Mr. Boyd was born on Jan. 10, 1927, to Arthur and Margaret (Windsor) Boyd. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Helen Marie Schroedter on Nov. 29, 1958 in Tynan. He resided in Beeville and was a retired carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, who died on March 8, 1991; his son, Jim Edwin Boyd, who died in 1979; and one sister, Daune Boyd.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Boyd Jr. of Fort Hood and Timothy Boyd of Whitt; three daughters, Sharon Garza and Deborah Moreno, both of Beeville, and Karen Gonzales of Refugio; a brother, Bobby Joe Boyd of Bullard; three sisters, Marie Laughlin of Adkins, Joyce Morris of Cibolo and Patricia Bodiford of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Castillo
Narciso B. (Chicho) Castillo Jr., 63, of Beeville died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002.
He was born on May 2, 1939, in San Antonio. He married his wife, Lydia Martinez, on Sept. 21, 1963, in Beeville. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor at Coastal Bend College.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Martinez Castillo of Beeville; two sons, Joseph Robert (Ellie) Castillo and Richard Lee (Anna) Castillo Sr., both of Beeville; four sisters, Trinidad (Blas) Hernandez, Maria Garza and Margaret (Joe) Saldana, all of Taft, and Rosalinda Moreno of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Jesse Ramon (Rosa) Castillo of Corpus Christi and Juan Castillo of Taft; a half brother, Bernardo Castillo of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Annette Lee, James Andrew and Richard Lee Castillo Jr. and Jessica Ann Chapa; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rosary will be recited this evening (Wednesday) at 7:30 at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Julio Martinez, Chris Gomez, Gerald Garcia, Robert Allen Moreno, Anthony Hernandez, Federico Garza and Joe Daniel Saldana. Honorary pallbearers will be James Andrew Castillo and Richard Lee Castillo Jr.

Keller
Jose (Joe) Angel Keller, 38, of Beeville died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002.
He was born on April 7, 1964, in Brownfield. He was preceded in death by his brother, Antonio Gonzales.
Mr. Keller is survived by his wife, Diana D. Keller; his son, Jose Angel Keller Jr.; and daughter, Jade Alexandria Keller, all of Corpus Christi; his father, Pablo (Julia) Kala, and mother, Carmel G. Keller, both of Beeville; three brothers, Pablo G. (Feliciana) Keller III of Brookshire, Ruben (Melissa) Keller of Austin and Jesus Vasquez of Beeville; five sisters, Cecilia Varra of San Antonio, Eva K. (Frank) Rivera of Victoria, Inez K. Amador of Beeville, Rebecca K. (Ernest) Benavidez of Tuleta and Monica G. Hernandez of Beeville; and his mother-in-law, Adelina Nevarez of Sinton.
Visitation was held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., with a rosary that evening at 7 o’clock at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donald Ernest, Noel Valdez, Jacob Olivarez, Pablo Keller III, Ruben Keller and Jesus Vasquez.
