Morse
Mary Corine Morse, 94, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, in Austin.
She was born on March 3, 1909, in Morris, Okla., to Joseph Gilroy, a French immigrant, and Pauline Medeaut, a Creek Indian from Oklahoma. Mary was raised on a farm with seven brothers and sisters in the state of Oklahoma. She married Bailey A. Morse of Tennessee in Wewoka, Okla., on July 13, 1929. The couple followed work in the oil fields into the Texas Panhandle and then to South Texas, working in Freer, Pettus and Corpus Christi before retiring in Beeville on property they purchased in 1943.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beeville and worked with the Meals on Wheels program as a volunteer until the age of 86. After heart surgery at 89 years, she resided in Austin, close to her family.
Mary is survived by a stepdaughter, Elna Biggs of Cuero, and two sons, Charles Morse of Gainesboro, Tenn., and Jerry Morse of Austin; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, living both in the United States and Germany.
Funeral services were to be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Beeville. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Harrell Funeral Home, Austin.
Stapleton
Charles “Charlie” William Stapleton, 63, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, following a short illness. He was born to Zeno and Ruth Stapleton on Oct. 24, 1939, in Three Rivers.
Mr. Stapleton was preceded in death by two infant sons, Daniel and Charles Stapleton Jr.; his father, Zeno Stapleton; and his wife, Sue Stapleton.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Stapleton of Three Rivers; a son, Zeno (Armilla) Stapleton of George West; three brothers, Robert (Mopsy) Stapleton of Three Rivers, Ray (Laverne) Stapleton and Johnny (Jeannie) Stapleton, all of Damon; two sisters, Nelda (Joe) Fudge of Pettus and Lucy (Dave) Darling of Three Rivers; five grandchildren, Christine, Cassandra, Caleb, Clarissa and Clayton Stapleton, all of George West; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday at the Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers.
The funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Good Hope Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Warren Stapleton, Garlin Stapleton, Monte Stapleton, Keith Stapleton, Steve Stapleton and Bill Gazaway.
Honorary pallbearers were Adam Martinez and Johnny Darling.

Bowman
John Truman Bowman, 68, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in Corpus Christi.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Beeville Memorial Park with Pastor Bevans Welder officiating.
Mr. Bowman was born on March 19, 1935, in Rockford, Ill., to John W. and Florence L. ( Whitemore) Bowman. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and from the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked as a clerk. He marred Elaine Cleveland Bowman on Sept. 12, 1964, in Skidmore. He was a Baptist, a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Cleveland Bowman (who died on Oct. 24, 1988), and a daughter, Shawn Delaine Hamilton.
Survivors include his granddaughter, Allyssa Lain Hamilton of Nocona; a sister, Marjorie Mae Rogers of Illinois; and a son-in-law, E. Scott Hamilton of Nocona.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Goza
John Irving Goza, 92, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will take place today (Saturday) at 10:30 a.m. at the same location, with the Rev. Kenny Walker officiating. Special music will include “In The Garden,” “When They Ring Them Golden Bells,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace” and “Blessed Assurance,” with organist Mary Ellen Thoms and singer Ron Bissett. Burial will follow in Normanna’s San Domingo Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Goza Jr., Tim, T.W. and Warren Goza, and Ron and Rick Bissett. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Fox, J.W. Brundrett and Marvin Voss.
Mr. Goza was born on March 4, 1911, in Normanna to Fleet E. and Sarah (Hensley) Goza. He married Jennie Lucille Harris in Normanna on Jan. 2, 1932. He was a member of Normanna Baptist Church.
He was a farmer and worked at Chase Field as a fuel foreman for Avanta for 32 years. He was a trustee for the Normanna Baptist Church, and a member of the Normanna Fire Department and the Normanna Museum Association.
Mr. Goza was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jennie Lucille Harris (who died on July 13, 1994), four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his daughter, Helen Bissett and husband Ray of Beeville; a son, John M. Goza and wife Ellen of Normanna; four grandsons, John Goza Jr., Tim Goza and Ron and Rick Bissett; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mauritz W. Monson, 61, died Monday, July 28, 2003, on his ranch in Bee County.
Funeral services were scheduled to take place Friday at 10 a.m. at Elim Lutheran Church with the Rev. Beth Ann Doerring officiating. Burial followed at Elim Lutheran Cemetery near Kenedy.
Pallbearers were John Berry, Causey Smart, Trey Schrade, Jimmy Albert, Kirk Bauer, Ron Carter and Buddy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Don Wright, Ben Alexander, Dale Herbert, Patricia Morgan, Marie Hahler, Katherine Hahler, T.C. Mr. Monson was born on Nov. 21, 1941, in Kenedy to Hilmer and Elsie (Eklund) Monson. He married Dianna Zieze on Oct. 14, 1967, in Kenedy. He was a farmer and rancher and member of Elim Lutheran Church.
He graduated from Kenedy High School in 1960. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves and a 4-H leader for more than 20 years. He was a founder and original director of the Karnes County Junior Livestock Show Barn. He was active on various boards of the Texas Agriculture Extension Agency.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Kay Monson of Kenedy; a son, Philip Monson of Kenedy; a sister, Dorothy (Tom) Hahler of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Lawrence Monson and Edward (Janet) Monson Jr., both of Kenedy; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Karnes County Junior Livestock Show or Elim Cemetery.

Saenz
Hubaldo “Johnny” Saenz, 63, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, in Webster.
Rosary will be recited at Treviño Funeral Home on Saturday evening at 7:30. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers will be Arnold, Robert and Leonard Saenz, Joel Baldarramos, Ernesto Longoria and Eugenio Perez Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Andres Perez, Erineo and Raul Garcia, Wally Peña, Pedro Gaitan and Frank Longoria.
Mr. Saenz was born on Nov. 22, 1939, in Kenedy to Humberto Saenz Sr. and Elvira Castilla Saenz. He served in the U.S. Navy and resided in Seabrook. He was a former Pettus resident and a retired electrical technician at NASA Space Center in Houston. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Gonzales Saenz of Seabrook; a daughter, Johnny Rene Saenz of Houston; a sister, Julia Saenz Aguirre of Pettus; two brothers, Humberto “Beto” Saenz of Beeville and Esmeraldo Saenz of El Paso.

Hartmann
August H. Hartmann, 76, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at his residence in Floresville.
He was born in the community of Three Oaks in Wilson County on Nov. 1, 1926, to August and Alma Elizabeth (Haack) Hartmann.
He married Irene Kotzur on Oct. 28, 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Hartmann was a mechanic, service manager and shop foreman for John Deere Equipment Co., retiring in the early 1990s after 30 years of service. He was a longtime resident of Wilson County and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 47 years, Irene Kotzur Hartmann (who died July 5, 1995); and siblings, Emil, Elmore and Milton Hartmann, Agnes Kirk, Ida Frieda, Irma Ortmann and Hilda Hartmann.
Rosary was recited July 21 at Vinyard Funeral Home chapel in Floresville. Funeral services were held July 22 at 10 a.m. at the same location, with Father Victor Carrillo officiating. Special music included “Old Rugged Cross,” “Daddy’s Hands” and “How Great Thou Art.” Burial followed in the Floresville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Clint Hartmann, Bryan Hartmann, Daniel Baird, Joy King, Quinton Janek and Wesley Pawlik. Honorary pallbearers were Chad Hartmann, Dustin Janek, Gary Carlisle, Travis Hartmann, Russell King, Larry Pierce and Mac Gleeson.
Survivors include his children, Clarence “Squeaky” (Joyce) Hartmann of LaVernia, Allen (Joan) Hartmann, Carolyn (Gilbert) Pawlik, Sharon (Benny) Janek, Patty (Rufus) Baird and Marilyn (Steve) King, all of Floresville; his companion, Delia Lohse of Skidmore; a sister, Lorene Dismuke of Victoria; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law; and numerous sisters-in-law.
Arrangements were handled through Vinyard Funeral Home, Floresville.
Perkins
Mable Rebecca “Becky” Perkins, 61, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Ganado.
Mrs. Perkins was born in Laredo on Nov. 7, 1941, to James Frank and Anna Mae (Lloyd) Jackson. She was a secretary for H.B. Zachry from 1979 to 1985 and a Baptist.
Survivors include her first husband, Franklin Ed Davis; her second husband, Ronnie Perkins of Ganado; two daughters, Patricia Davis and Vivian “Scooter” Davis; four stepdaughters, Misty, Brittany, Sharron and Sylvianna Perkins; five sons, Jimmy D. Davis, Fred Lee Davis, Aubrey Davis, Rodney Jay Davis and Ronnie Perkins; three stepsisters, Catherine, Billie and Carol Jackson; two brothers, Ronnie Jay and Rodney Ray Jackson; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Ganado Funeral Home. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna, with the Rev. Ronald G. Edwards officiating.
Pallbearers were Jason Peters, Alex Douglas, Todd Thompson, Patrick Panel, Kenneth Nairn and Marvin Curtis. Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Texas.
