Everett
Mary Louise Wharton Everett, 83, former longtime resident of Beeville, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Northside Convalescent Hospital in Hollister,  Calif., from complications after heart surgery.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Beeville.
Born at Dinero on Oct. 5, 1919, the second daughter of Michael Perry Wharton and Anna Mae  Johnson Wharton, Mrs. Everett grew up in Live Oak County and Normanna in Bee County. She graduated from high school at Old Main High School in San Antonio. She was married to Ned Everett on Feb. 19, 1941, in San Antonio.
Mrs. Everett was active in both church and civic life while she lived in Beeville. She was a member of the Beeville Mother’s Club, the Birthday Club, the Parent-Teachers Association and the Women’s Society of Christian Service at the First United Methodist Church, serving in various leadership positions. She was a Girl Scout troop leader for Beeville Girl Scout Troop 13, whose members included her daughter Sabra. In 1958, she served as adult troop sponsor for Beeville Girl Scout Troop 1 when the troop attended Knolle Farm summer encampment in preparation for the National Senior Scout Roundup in Colorado Springs,  Colo. She enjoyed cooking and quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Ned, also of Hollister,  Calif.; her daughters, Louise Everett Graham of Lexington, Ky., and Sabra Ann Everett of Hollister,  Calif.; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Mary Louise and Nicholas William Pozaric of Louisville, Ky.; her former son-in-law, Samuel Russell Graham of Austin; her sisters, Mrs. W.H. (Marjinel)  Whitenton and Gladys Zoller of Beeville; a number of nieces and nephews, and her companion, MLE (Emily) P. Everett of Hollister,  Calif.
Burial arrangements in Beeville will be conducted by Galloway and Sons Funeral Directors. Her ashes will be buried at the George West Cemetery in the Wharton- Johnson family plot.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the youth fund at the First United Methodist Church of Beeville.

Garza
Pablo T. Garza Sr., 67, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003.
Visitation was held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Burial followed in Ross Cemetery.
Mr. Garza was born on April 4, 1936, in Beeville to Jose Maria and Anselma (Tapia) Garza. He resided in Tuleta and was a truck driver and equipment operator for Beck Brothers, and a rancher. He was a member of St. Joseph’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Maria Garza and Anselma Tapia Treviño.
Survivors include his companion, Jesusa Martinez of Tuleta; a son, Pablo (Juanita) Garza of Pearsall; four daughters, Mary Ann (Richard) Garcia and Ramona (Ysidro Jr.) Carabajal, both of Beeville, Dominga (Ricardo) Morón of Tynan and Sara (Guadalupe) Gomez of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Susana Yzaguirre of Beeville and Solia Flores of Choate; two brothers, Lorenzo Garza of Placido and Chris Garza of Kenedy; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; his step-father, Gabriel Treviño of Beeville; and his ex-wife, Sovieda Cardenas of Beeville.

Gregory
Barbara Louise (Lippard) Gregory, 76, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, after a battle with cancer.
Mrs. Gregory was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Taft to Clinton Sr. and Florence (Willis) Lippard. She grew up on the family farm at Karon. She attended school at Votaw before graduating from George West High School in 1946. She attended nursing school at the old Beeville hospital and became a licensed vocational nurse in 1952. She worked in Beeville and Hondo until 1976.
Mrs. Gregory married Russell A. Gregory in Beeville on March 31, 1952. They were both members of the Three Rivers Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Clara Patsy Colwell, and a son, Russell C. Gregory.
Survivors include her husband, Rusty; a daughter, Patsy (Lonnie) Wiemers of Hondo; three grandchildren, Colleen (Kevin) Zinsmeyer of Castroville, Farrah (James Neuman) Wiemers of Hondo; and Russell G. Gregory of Phoenix, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Rainee Neuman and Tristan Zinsmeyer; a brother, Clinton (Carolyn) Lippard Jr. of Luling and Willis (Anna) Lippard of Monroe, N.H.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Monday at Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Three Rivers.
Interment followed at the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Gregory to the Church of Christ in Three Rivers or the American Cancer Society.

McCelvey
Brett McCelvey, 45, of Dilley died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, in San Antonio.
Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday). Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church in Cotulla at 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Devine.
Pallbearers will be Herb Bourquin, Jeff Friesenhan, Joey Friesenhan, Ronnie Friesenhan and Wayne and Wayde Swaim.
Mr. McCelvey was the son of James “Rex” and Minerva (Swaim) McCelvey. He is also survived by his daughter, Cassiday Ann McCelvey of San Antonio; three sons, Brett Jr., James Rex and Charles Houston McCelvey, all of Dilley; a brother, Lynn McCelvey and wife DaSha of Dilley; a niece, Lyndsey McCelvey of San Antonio; two nephews, Justin McCelvey of San Antonio and Lando McCelvey of Dilley; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.D. McCelvey of San Marcos.
Arrangements are being handled through Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

Alaniz
Amado Alaniz, 83, of Pawnee died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at John Paul II Nursing Home in Kenedy.
Rosary was recited Thursday at Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pawnee, with Father Peter Gajda officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Pawnee.
Mr. Alaniz was born on March 8, 1920, to Santiago and Anderia (Salinas) Alaniz in Yoakum. He was a lifelong resident of Pawnee and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He married Leonor Leal on April 22, 1941, in Pawnee. He was a farmer and a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Leonor Alaniz of Pawnee; five daughters, Betty Pate of Vernon, Emma Wysong and Leonor Nelson, both of Jacksboro, Anita Aguirre of Houston and Sylvia Bourgois of Gibson, La.; three sons, Jim and Vidal Alaniz, both of Pawnee, and Rudy Leal of New Mexico; a brother, Santiago Alaniz of Pawnee; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Rivas
Andres M. Rivas, 68, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Spring Season Nursing Home.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel, with a prayer service at 7 o’clock. Funeral services will take place today (Saturday) at the same location at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Daniel Castro officiating. Burial will follow in Evangelico Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Garza Jr., Epi Garcia Jr., Victor Rodriguez Jr., Ezequiel Rivas Jr., Raul Osorio, Paul Anthony Benavidez, Manuel Rivas and Jose Natividad Rivas.
Mr. Rivas was born in Live Oak County on Oct. 16, 1934, to Paulino and Eulalia (Mejia) Rivas. He resided in Beeville and was a retired home care provider. He was a member of the Pentecostal church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Natividad M. Rivas, and a sister, Magdalena R. Garcia.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Osorio of Red Oak; two grandchildren, Veronica Osorio and Monica Zambrano; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Adam Rivas of Brownsville, David Rivas of Beeville and Ezequiel Rivas of Skidmore; and four sisters, Eva Martinez of San Antonio and Maria Rodriguez, Ofelia Benavidez and Olga Garza, all of Beeville.

Tejada
Tony Tejada, 64, of Avon Park, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, in Tampa, Fla.
Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at Walker Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church in Avon Park. Visitation was to be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, Fla.
Mr. Tejada was born on May 26, 1939, in San Pedro, De Lloc, Peru, and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1985, moving there from Beeville. He was a physical therapist with a home health agency, a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army, and a Seventh-day Adventist.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Brooker Tejada of Avon Park, Fla.; his daughters, Anna Tejada of  Jefferson, Rebecca (Patrick) Porter of Orlando, Fla., and Raquel Barajas of Avon Park, Fla.; two sisters, Tia La Madrid of Avon Park, Fla., and Julia Rodriguez La Madrid of Lima, Peru; and a brother, Ricardo Tejada of Lima, Peru.
Memorial contributions may be made to Walker Academy Worthy Student Fund, 1525 W. Avon Boulevard, Avon Park, FL 33825.

Tsourianis
John George Tsourianis, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.
Services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Tsourianis was born on April 2, 1925, in Natick, Mass., to George John and Francis (Sowers) Tsourianis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy’s Fighting Sea Bees. He resided in Beeville and was formerly of Mathis (at Sunrise Beach) and Natick, Mass. He was a retired machinist who worked as a tool and die maker with Greers & Raytheon & Co. in Somerville, Mass. He was a Catholic and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His hobby was making model airplanes.
Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Antinarella of Beeville and Cheryl Fullilove and husband Jim of Gulfport, Miss.; a grandson, Michael John Antinarella of Beeville; three sisters, Theresa Courney of Melbourne, Fla., Patsy Tsourianis of Somerville, Mass., and Mary Finn of New Hampshire; a brother, Peter Tsourianis of Somerville, Mass.; an ex-wife, Rosemary Ricci of Beeville; and a niece, Barbara Chianese and husband Tony of New York.

Barrett
Joan Uzzell Barrett, 73, died Sept. 6, 2003, in Shreveport, La.
Funeral services were held Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, with Father John Raish officiating. Burial followed at Forest Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Glasgow, Pat Fojtik, Bruce Potter, Pat Miciotto, Steve Lenox and Mike Stephens. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Fojtik and Mike Miciotto.
Mrs. Barrett was born in Beeville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Barrett, and son, Steve Barrett.
Survivors include her son, Mark (Caroline) Barrett of Shreveport, La.; a sister, Dovey Fojtik of Beeville; grandchildren, Brittany Barrett of Shreveport, La., and Melisa (Chris) Glasgow of Lafayette, La., and great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Barrett Glasgow.
The family requests memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
Arrangements were handled through Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Shreveport, La.

Bryan
William Earl Bryan, 90, of George West died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003.
Mr. Bryan was born May 29, 1913, in Live Oak County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a retired oilfield pumper and gauger.
He is survived by one daughter, Frances Earlene Martinez of Beeville; one son, Keith Bryan of Hastings, Neb.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the George West Cemetery, with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Dobie Funeral Home, Mathis.
