DeLeon
Alejandro R. De Leon Sr., 54, of George West died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003.
Rosary was recited Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Eckols Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pawnee, with Father Peter Gajda officiating. Burial followed at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery near Pawnee.
Mr. De Leon was born in Kingsville on June 5, 1949, to Simon Sr. and Rogelia (Ramos) De Leon. He married Yolanda Ybañez in Alice in 1983. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lupita and Rogelita De Leon, and a granddaughter, Delilah Prieto.
Survivors include his wife, Yolanda De Leon of George West; three daughters, Sonia (Manuel) Prieto of Tuleta, Linda (John) Eiland of Beeville and Elizabeth (Jeremy) Boltinghouse of George West; two sons, Alejandro (Jeanne) De Leon Jr. of Saginaw and Mark De Leon of George West; two sisters, Aurora Treviño and Adelfa Duenes, both of Pawnee; four brothers, Simon De Leon Jr. of Three Rivers, Reynaldo De Leon of Kyle and Domingo and Juan De Leon, both of Pawnee; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral arrangements were handled through Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.

Israel
Hertha Kendall Israel, 87, died Nov. 11, 2003, in San Antonio at Autumn Winds Retirement Lodge.
She had turned 87 on Nov. 4. Mrs. Israel was born in Cestohowa and grew up in Karnes City, but was a longtime resident of Beeville and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was primarily a housewife and mother, but also waitressed in many local restaurants over the years. She also sold records and tickets for Al Dean and the All Stars.
A memorial gathering was held in San Antonio at her daughter Etta Ruthenberg’s home Nov. 16. Her ashes will be scattered in Beeville in the spring.
Mrs. Israel was preceded in death by her husband, John Eric Israel, her son, Bartell Israel, grandson, Max Daniel Maxon, and great-granddaughter, Jessica Dennis. She is survived by daughters, Beda Kantarjian of Longwood, Fla., and Etta Ruthenberg of San Antonio, eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Schroeder
Charles Doug Schroeder died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in Houston.
He was a 1967 graduate of A.C.  Jones High School. He was elected student body president and Who’s Who Among Outstanding High School students. He earned his bachelor of science degree in finance from  Texas A&I University and a master’s of business administration in management from the University of Houston. Mr. Schroeder retired from the Attorney General’s office after 17 years of service and was selected as manager of the year in 2002.
Survivors include his parents, Dr. O.C. and Mattie Schroeder; a sister, Debbie Coldeway and husband Ron; his grandmother, Alice Schroeder, all of Beeville; his uncles, William Leroy Davis and wife Catherine and Robert Lewis Davis; and many friends.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd., in Houston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Southeast  Texas, 2400 Augusta Drive, Houston, TX 77057.
Arrangements were handled through Heights Funeral Home, Houston.

Alaniz
Sofia Perez Alaniz, 88, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003.
She was co-owner and bookkeeper for Alaniz and Perez Garage. She was a member of her church choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cruz Alaniz Sr., on April 16, 2000.
Survivors include her four sons, Cruz Alaniz Jr. and Moses (Patricia) Alaniz, both of San Antonio, Joe Henry (Elsa Z.) Alaniz and Luis (Olga B.) Alaniz, both of Beeville; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited Thursday night at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday morning at 10:30 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Fathers Richard Gonzales and Balaswamy Pasala officiated. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Jody Alaniz, Cruz Alberto Alaniz, Luis Alaniz Jr., Jaime Alaniz, Jeremy Alaniz and Bryce Carrillo.

Jameson
Lena Jo Jameson died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, after a long illness at the home of her daughter in New Orleans, La.
She worked for the Flour Bluff Independent School District for eight years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gilliam, her first husband, Ezra Harris Sr., brothers, Albert and Earl Gilliam, a sister, Morene Worley, a son-in-law, Thomas Medlin, and a daughter, Shirley Rose Harris.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Jameson of Flour Bluff; her sons, Ezra Harris of Dallas, Russell E. (Sharon) Jameson of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Michael (Holly) Jameson of Flour Bluff, Roger Jameson of Houston; stepsons, David Lee Harris of Big Springs and John Jameson of Houston; her daughters, Wanda Medlin of New Orleans, La., Linda (Robert) Dallas of Beeville, and Rosetta (Carl) Phillips of Lavinia, Tenn.; her sisters, Jeanie Lipchinski, Donnie Mangum, Margaret Vickery and Betty Graves; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 1 to 9 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home chapel in Corpus Christi. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at the same location. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Bennett
Evelyn Grace Chaddock Bennett, 82, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003.
Visitation was held Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Greg Traylor, assisted by the Revs. Mac Robinson and Vic Barris, officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mary Ellen Thoms and pianist Linda Burton, with vocalists the Rev. Dave Blanton and Pam Bennett Young. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Ed Smith, Galen Turner III, Chris Turner, Gene Smith, Galen Turner Jr. and Bob Young. Honorary pallbearers were Dee and Gavin Young.
Mrs. Bennett was horn on Oct. 5, 1921, in Cuero to Temple Henry and Mary (Klokau) Chaddock. She married Kirksey Alvin Bennett on July 15, 1938, in Cuero. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a Beeville resident. She served as a secretary for the  Texas Department of Human Services for 25 years. She was secretary at First Baptist for seven years, and belonged to the Garden Club and Home Arts Club and volunteered with the American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Nov. 24, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Temple Kaye Chaddock.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Temple Smith and husband Gene of Beeville, Suellen Turner and husband Galen Turner Jr. of Aransas Pass, and Pamela Grace Young and husband Bob of Brenham; two brothers, Clarence Alden Chaddock of LaPorte and Kyle Afton Chaddock and wife Lillian of Richmond; a sister, Hazel Marie Buck of Houston; six grandchildren, Ed Smith of Dallas, Dr. Galen Turner III and wife Tara of  Louisiana, Gracelyn Roman and husband John of Illinois, Chris Turner and fiancee Danielle Haunen of New Orleans, La., and Robert Dee Young and Gavin Young, both of Brenham; and a great-grandson, Galen Turner IV of  Louisiana.

Edgar
Howard Matthew Edgar, 54, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, from a heart attack, at his home in San Antonio.
Mr. Edgar was born on Jan. 26, 1949, to Carlos and Mary Edgar. He graduated from A.C.  Jones High School in Beeville in 1967. He was employed at USAA in San Antonio for 27 years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed going on yearly hunting trips to Colorado and fishing on the  Texas Gulf Coast.
Mr. Edgar is survived by his mother, Mary Edgar of Brackettville (formally of Beeville); his brother and sister in-law, Neville and Wanda Edgar of Griffin, Ga.; his sons and daughters in-law, William and Joy Edgar of San Antonio and Patrick and Mandy Edgar of Brackettville; his daughter and son in-law, Amber and Jeremy Liscum of Bandera; four grandchildren; and numerous friends.
Visitation is being held today (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. and services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Mission Park North Funeral Chapel in San Antonio.
Memorials can be made on Mr. Edgar’s behalf to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were handled through Mission Park North Funeral Chapel in San Antonio.

Hernandez
Asixlo Hernandez, 65, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in La Porte.
Rosary will be recited at Treviño Funeral Home tonight (Wednesday) at 7 o’clock. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pettus, with Father Joseph Varghese officiating. Burial will follow in the Pettus Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J.R. Acuña, Juan Aguirre, Sid Hernandez, Sid Montez, Robert Benavidez, Eddie Garza, Lupe Constante and Vidal Rodrigues.
Mr. Hernandez was born in Pettus on Oct. 18, 1938, to Ysidro and Refugia (Flores) Hernandez. He resided in Pasadena and was a construction worker. He was a member of the Catholic church and a former Pettus resident.
Survivors include two sisters, Kathryn H. Suniga and Josie Cardenas, both of Pasadena; two brothers, Felipe Hernandez of Pettus and Sid Hernandez of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

Isaacks
Florence Kay Williams Isaacks, 66, of Mineral died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, in San Antonio.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1937, in Corpus Christi to Adkins and Mary Williams. She married Thomas Max Isaacks on April 4, 1955, in Mathis. She was a Sunday school teacher and active in the Pettus Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Joyce Whitten, a brother, Henry Wesley Williams, and a grandson, T. Gavin Smith.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Max Isaacks of Mineral; a daughter, Kay Smith and husband Mike of Wimberley; two sons, Grady Isaacks and wife Carol of Round Rock and Thomas Raymond Isaacks and wife Terri of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Laura Smith Walla, Tonya Isaacks Bateman, Jennifer, Seth, Megan and Aaron Isaacks; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Walla, Avery Ann Walla and Jonathan Riley Bateman; a brother, Albert Williams and wife Sue of Story, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Williams of Mineral; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) at 5 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Mineral Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Seth Isaacks, Sean Williams, Kenny Isaacks, David Richardson, Gene Richardson and Jack Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be Elvie Richardson and Todd Walla.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pettus Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 460, Pettus, TX 78146.

Slomchinski
Josephine Margaret Slomchinski, 93, was born in Beeville on Feb. 9, 1910. She died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003. She was a resident of Refugio for the past 63 years.
She is survived by her six children: son, Bernard Austin and wife Joan of San Antonio; daughter, Mary Louise Slomchinski Vetters of Austin; daughter, Dottie Naeole and husband, Simeon, of Kaaawa, Hawaii; son, Charles Slomchinski of Refugio; daughter, Dolores Manley and husband Walker D. “Sonny” Manley Jr. of Missouri City; and daughter, Bernadine Fowler and husband Clyde of Richmond.
She had 16 grandchildren: John Austin and wife Daphne Previti-Austin; Mark Austin; David Austin and wife Sarah; Kate Austin; Debra Vetters-Kirchner and husband Harry; Clem Vetters; Mike Vetters; Catalina Vetters-Erps and husband Rick; Monica Naéole-Wong and husband Nelson; Abby Beatty and husband Byron; Chris Naeole and wife Tara; Mitchell Naeole and wife Tania Costa; Shawn Manley; Byron Manley and wife Joanne; Jennifer Easter and husband Patrick; Sam Fowler and fiancé Jeana Schifani; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Frank Slomchinski; her parents, Oliver Lee Shipp and Catherine Caroline Sheeran Shipp; brothers, Eugene, Walter and Aubrey Shipp; and sister, Leona Shipp.
She was a member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Refugio and a member of the Altar Society. She was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6290. She worked for many years in the Refugio County Courthouse in various positions until her retirement at the age of 82.
Rosary was recited on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Refugio. Mass was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Refugio. Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Refugio.
