Moreno
Amado E. Moreno Sr., 81, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, in Corpus Christi.
Mr. Moreno resided in Beeville and was born in Goliad County on Sept. 12, 1922. He was a retired laborer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Flora Maldonado Moreno; two sons, Agapito and Felipe Moreno; one stepson, Eugenio Vidaurri; one sister, Petra Ramos; and one brother, Martin Moreno.
Survivors include his spouse, Minerva Martinez Moreno; two daughters; Juanita M. Campos of Beeville and Yolanda M. (Martin) Flores of Dallas; four sons, Gregorio (Beda) Moreno and Amado (Rosa) Moreno Jr., both of Alvarado, Pedro Moreno of Beeville and Juan Moreno of Dallas; three stepsons, Tony, Sisto and Arturo Arredondo; seven stepdaughters, Beatrice Long, Irma Reynero, Dora, Elena and Lupita Arredondo, Celina Camacho, Rosie Landreth; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers were Raven D. Moreno, Gavino Moreno, Mario Moreno, Rito “Popo” Campos, Epimenio “Epi” Campos IV and Arturo Arredondo. Honorary pallbearers were Felipe Moreno Jr. and Agapito Moreno Jr.

Toomey
Joseph Kevin Toomey, 45, died Friday, July 30, 2004, in San Antonio.
Visitation was held Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Deacon Luis Treviño officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Craig Theall, John Cooper, Roger Cope, Joe Porrini, Robert Richards and Arthur Ocampo. Honorary pallbearer was  Taylor Theall. Alternate pallbearer was Jim Simonsen.
Mr. Toomey was born in Dallas on April 24, 1959, to Joseph Wallace and Jane (Smith) Toomey. He graduated from the University of  Texas at San Antonio with his architect’s degree. He was a Catholic and resided in San Antonio. He was employed as an architect with Officesource Limited.
Survivors include his father, Joe W. Toomey of San Antonio; his mother, Jane Toomey of Concord, N.C.; his sister, Karen Toomey of Dallas; and a niece, Lindsey Ramos of Dallas.
Mr. Toomey’s parents and grandparents were originally from Beeville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Therapy and Research Center (CTRC), 1-800-340-2872, in San Antonio.
Galloway and Sons Funeral Directors

Ada R. Bowman
Ada R. Bowman, 84, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004.
Visitation was held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Don  Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Brent James, Scott Childress, Doug Fohn, Dru Canion, Lucas Wright, Jimmy Thomson, Johnny Hunter and Bobby Stuart. Honorary pallbearers were Jason F. Jones, Mike Huchinson, Willie Spreen, Ronnie Dunn, Robert Vaughn, Harold Galloway, Ernest Davis, Joe Lindstaedter and all Exclusive Home Health and Hospice employees.
Mrs. Bowman was born in Chicago, Ill. on Dec. 24, 1919, to Frederick and Anna Margaret (McKinney) Northrup. She married Dewayne Bowman Sr. on Nov. 26, 1939, in Bexar County. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Dewayne Bowman Sr. of Beeville; a son, Dewayne Bowman Jr. and wife Sherry of Beeville; three daughters, Judy B.  Jones and husband Wayne of Beeville, Nancy B. James and husband Willie of George West, and Susie B. Childress of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren, Callie Bowman, Britanni (Dru) Canion, Shannon (Doug) Fohn, Stacey James, Brent James, Brent W. Jones, Jason F. Jones, Matthew Jones, Casey Childress and Scott (Cristina) Childress.
Memorial donations may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Memorial fund.

JOHN DAY THOMAS
1936-2004
John Day Thomas was born on April 20, 1936, in Anthony, Kansas and died on October 3, 2004 in Houston,  Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Thomas and Bertha Goble Thomas, and all of his siblings; brother, Roy W. Thomas of Amarillo, TX; sisters, Louise Rippy of Whittier,  Calif., and Polly Connally of Carlsbad, N.M.; also brothers-in-law, Bill Connally and Johnnie Rippy.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rosilyn Range Thomas, 2 children; son Jeff Thomas of Sugarland, Tx.; daughter Kelly Thomas Moore of Flower Mound, Tx.; son-in-law Walter Moore; sister-in-law Willa Thomas of Amarillo, Tx.; granddaughter Laura Beth Thomas; grandsons, Samuel and James Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
JD was born in Anthony, Kansas and moved with his family to Carlsbad, N.M. when he was two years old. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1954. He attended New Mexico School of Mines in Socorro for two years. He joined the Navy in 1956 and became a Naval Aviator. He was stationed at Chase Field in Beeville,  Texas, where he met his future wife, Rosilyn Range of Skidmore,  Texas. JD spent 14 years in the Navy, including tours of duty in California, the Pentagon, Guam, and Virginia. He retired as a Commander in the Naval Reserves in 1996. After leaving the Navy in 1970, the family lived in Grand Prairie,  Texas, for eight years before moving to Houston in 1978, where, for several years, he had his own business in the cable TV industry.
JD was a lifelong Methodist. He and his family were members of a Methodist Church in every community in which they lived. He was an active member of Fair Haven UMC and the Searcher’s Sunday School Class in Spring Branch for the past 26 years. He taught Sunday school classes for many years.
JD loved animals and all his life had a faithful dog at his side. He had many hobbies, some of which included collecting coins and stamps; auto mechanics and gardening, especially growing roses.
He loved his family an was so proud of his children and grandchildren.
A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Spring Shadows Pines Alzheimer’s Unit and the many friends who supported the family through his long illness.
A memorial service will be held at Fair Haven United Methodist Church, 1330 Gessner, Houston,  Texas at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 8th, 2004. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 9th, 2004, at Evergreen Cemetery, Skidmore,  Texas.
In lieu of flowers, please make gifts to the Fair Haven United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, (1330 Gessner, Houston,  Texas, 77055).

Blanchard
Frank M. Blanchard, captain, U.S. Navy (retired), 85, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, in Virginia Beach, Va.
A native of Warsaw, Mo., Capt. Blanchard was the son of the late Paul M. and Sudie Rouse Blanchard. He was the surviving spouse of his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Meuth Blanchard, a native of Skidmore.
Capt. Blanchard entered the U.S. Navy in March 1941 as an aviation cadet and served his country for more than 31 years until his retirement in 1972. During World War II, he served as commanding officer of Composite Squadron 91, a squadron of 20 fighter and 12 torpedo bomber aircraft flying from three different aircraft carriers against the Japanese. Prior to his retirement, he held five different commands, served aboard the first aircraft carrier to circumnavigate the globe, the first aircraft carrier to operate in the Persian Gulf, and was able to see his two sons graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy and be commissioned in the Navy.
After his retirement, Capt. Blanchard commissioned and headed the first Navy Junior ROTC unit at Granby High School in Norfolk, Va. He served there until his second retirement in 1981, completing more than 40 years in the uniform of the U.S. Navy.
Capt. Blanchard received his bachelor’s degree in physics from William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., in 1940 and his master’s degree in education from the George  Washington University in  Washington, D.C., in 1974. He was also a graduate of the U.S. Navy General Line School in Monterey,  Calif., and the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eleanor Meuth Blanchard, and an older brother, Paul Jr., who died in infancy in 1918.
Survivors include his two sons and their families, Commander Frank M. Blanchard (USN, retired) and wife Karen and their children, Brooke, Laura Anne, Trey and Bryan and son Capt. Robert K. Blanchard (USN, retired) and his wife, Deborah, and their sons, Michael and David of Virginia Beach, Va. He is also survived by a brother, Dr. Gerald L. Blanchard and wife Grace of Durham,  Calif., as well as by many nieces and nephews in  Texas and California.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach with the Rev. Dr. Dwight O. Christenbury officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church building fund or to the Eleanor Blanchard Memorial Garden of the Bay Colony Garden Club, c/o Rhonda Byrd, 1113 Cedar Point Dr., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451.
Arrangements were handled through H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Inc., Norfolk, Va.

Hoffmeyer
Stanley Edward Hoffmeyer, 83, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004.
Graveside services were held Wednesday (today) at 10 a.m. in the Mineral Cemetery, with Pastor Joe Burke officiating.
Pallbearers were Fred Quimby, Kenneth Stokley, Tim Stokley, James Kennison, Frank Gunderman and Jim King. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Gunderman, Eddie Stokley, Bobby Walters and Darrell Walters.
Mr. Hoffmeyer was born in Page, N.D., on Aug. 28, 1921, to August Theodore and Emma (Baasch) Hoffmeyer. He was married to Nancy Lee Williamson for 58 years and resided in Mineral. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Mineral Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hoffmeyer of Mineral; two daughters, Gwyndolyn Diane Forgue and Nancy Louise Zembower, both of Houston; two sons, Henry Edward Hoffmeyer of Austin and John Lee Hoffmeyer of Mineral; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Longoria
Ester Longoria, 59, of Kenedy died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.
She was born in Nell on July 11, 1945, to Dolores and Guadalupe (Carreon) Sanchez. She married Blas Longoria Jr. on April 15, 1967, in Pawnee. She was employed as a cashier at Wal-Mart and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pawnee.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Blas Longoria Jr. of Kenedy; a son, George Longoria of Kenedy; three sisters, Rita Ruiz of Three Rivers, Alicia Nuñez of Zapata and Belia DeLaGarza of Kenedy; and a brother, Ernest Sanchez of San Antonio.
Rosary was recited by Deacon Gus DeLaGarza on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe with Father Mauricio Lopez officiating. Burial followed in Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Cemetery in Pawnee.
Pallbearers were George Longoria, Clyde Sanchez, Michael Nuñez, Larry DeLaGarza, Eddie and Gilbert Ruiz and Albert and Robby Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers were David Sanchez and Allen Nuñez.
Arrangements were handled through Eckols Funeral Home, Inc., Kenedy.

Rickey
Raymond Rickey, 68, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004.
Visitation will be held tonight (Wednesday) from 5 to 9 o’clock at Galloway and Sons chapel. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. at the same location with the Rev. Bill Duke officiating. Special music will include “Amazing Grace,” “He Touched Me” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Veterans of Foreign Wars members Tony Kuharski, Ramon Moreno, Paul Begin, Bernard Henke, Bob Gibson and Eloy Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Phillips, also a member of the VFW.
Mr. Rickey was born in Russellville, Ohio, on Nov. 29, 1935, to James Henry and Katie Belle (Jamison) Rickey. He married Lola Mae Stautzenberger in Beeville on Oct. 26, 1974. He was retired from the U.S. Navy. He had worked for the civil service for many years and was a retired  Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional officer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lola Mae Stautzenberger Rickey, who died in 2002.
Survivors include his sons, Dennis DeWitt and wife Gwen and Michael Page and wife Susan, all of Beeville; four grandchildren, Kyle DeWitt, Jenifer Davis, Matthew and Brandon Page; a great-grandchild, Harley DeWitt; and three brothers, Lowell Rickey of Arkansas, Bruce Rickey of Ohio and Eddie Rickey of Virginia.

Ramona Colunga, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, in Corpus Christi.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services will be held today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2, with Deacon Luis Treviño officiating.
Mrs. Colunga was born on Feb. 28, 1927, in George West to Anastacio and Luisa (Ramirez) Colunga. She was a homemaker and Catholic, residing in Beeville.
Survivors include her son, Frank Moreno of Lansing, Mich., and five grandchildren.
