Doubrava
Helen Louise Herzog Doubrava, 96, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 6 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Funeral services will take place at the same location on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Father Sebastian Vettah officiating. Special music will include “In the Garden,” “Amazing Grace,” “Precious Memories” and “How Great Thou Art.” Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Allen, Gary Dean, Allen, Keith and Aaron Blayne Doubrava and Les Odom.
Mrs. Doubrava was born in Kyle on March 29, 1908, to Robert and Janie (Ewald) Herzog. She married Frank Doubrava in 1929. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a Skidmore resident. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Henry, Robert, Fritz and James, four sisters, Mannie, Ann, Edith and Frances, a son, Frank Doubrava Jr., and two grandsons, Ronald and Donald.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances Streb of Corpus Christi and Jo Ann Odom and husband Joe of Brazoria; three sons, Allen Doubrava and wife Lee of Corpus Christi, Norm and Henry Doubrava of Skidmore; three sisters, Dorothy Herzog of  Pennsylvania, Floralee Marshall of Houston and Lucille Custer of Sinton; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Gutierrez
Robert Christobal Frank Gutierrez III, 13, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004.
Robert was born on Nov. 20, 1990, to Robert Gutierrez and Veronica Gonzales in Beeville.
Robert was a student a Calallen Middle School. He enjoyed playing football, baseball, hunting, fishing, playing his guitar and listening to music.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Christobal and Ofelia Gonzales.
Survivors include his parents, Robert Gutierrez Jr. of Corpus Christi; his mother, Veronica Gonzales Gutierrez of Beeville; one sister, Brittany Ann Gutierrez of Beeville; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Olga Gutierrez of Beeville; and many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers will be Christopher Gutierrez, Joshua Gonzales, Johnny Ray Gutierrez, Justin Rodriguez, Bryan Lee Salas and Jesse Gonzales.

Elliott
Richard “Dickie” S. Elliott, 69, of Pawnee died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004. He died at his daughter’s home following a short battle with cancer.
Mr. Elliott was born to O.B. and Joyce (Harvey) Elliott on April 29, 1935, in Pawnee. He married Barbara Knapp on Feb. 21, 1960, in Corpus Christi. Mr. Elliott resided in Pawnee his entire life, where he was a farmer and rancher and served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Three Rivers.
Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his parents, O.B. and Joyce (Harvey) Elliott.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Knapp Elliott of Pawnee; two sons, Stan (Joyce) Elliott of New Braunfels and John (Anne-Marie) Elliott of Fayetteville, Ark.; a daughter, Kim (John) Herber of New Braunfels; a brother, Thomas “Scooter” Elliott of Three Rivers; and eight grandchildren, Kyle, Thad, Cordell and Rowdy Herber, Darian and Stanley Elliott and Christopher and Matthew Elliott.
Visitation was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Three Rivers, and the funeral followed at 3 p.m. there with Minister Don  Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Pawnee Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Thad Herber, Cordell Herber, Rowdy Herber, Danny Ikels, Doyle Culpepper and Dane Elliott.

Muñoz
Estella Garcia Muñoz, 84, of Corpus Christi died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, there.
She was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Berclair to Jose P. Garcia and Dionicio Garcia Garcia. She was married June 30, 1937, to Manuel H. Muñoz Jr. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Beeville. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Reyes Chapa Treviño and Carolina G. Villarreal.
Mrs. Muñoz is survived by her daughters, Anita M. (Joe) Vargas and Diana M. (Santos) Baldillez, both of Corpus Christi; sons, Mike G. (Tina) Muñoz of Beeville, Robert G. Muñoz of Austin and James G. Muñoz of Corpus Christi; a brother, Ricardo G. Garcia of Lamesa; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Church with Father Luke officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.

Vargas
Filomena F. Vargas, 96, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at her home in Harlingen, where she had resided for the last 10 years.
She was born in Live Oak on July 5, 1908. She married Abel P. Vargas Sr. on Nov. 16, 1933, in George West. The couple remained married for 63 years. They resided in Beeville for 30 years before moving to Rockport in 1963, where they lived for 31 years. In 1994, they relocated to Harlingen to live with their daughter. She was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Rockport.
Mrs. Vargas is preceded in death by her sons, Lionel and David Vargas, her husband, Abel Vargas Sr., and a great-grandson, Eric Maynard.
Survivors include her sons, Abel Vargas Jr. of Monterey,  Calif., and Daniel Vargas and wife Helga of La Porte; a daughter, Elodia “Laurie” V. Soliz of Harlingen; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A wake was held Sunday at 7 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were held Monday with burial following at Cemeterio Evangelico in Beeville.

Ellwood
Sue Marie Everson Ellwood of Cleveland,  Texas, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004.
Mrs. Ellwood was born on June 4, 1934, in Dayton, Ohio, to Dr. Herbert Stockwell and Marie Cooper Stockwell. After her father’s death when she was 8 years old, Sue moved to Gonzales, with her mother and stepfather, Daniel Shields Everson. She was the salutatorian of her high school class and in 1955, earned a degree in music from SMU, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She married Charles Burke Ellwood on Aug. 11, 1956. Sue and Burke moved to Beeville in 1958, where they raised their two sons, Dan and Tim. Sue and Burke lived in Wharton from 1979 until 1983, when they moved to Cleveland.
A gifted vocalist, she sang a solo at her college baccalaureate and was a member of the choir in the First United Methodist Church in Beeville and the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. She was an elementary school teacher, homemaker and wife, mother and grandmother. While in Beeville, she was active in the Junior Service League, the Rosetta Woman’s Club, the Mothers’ Club and Northside Little League. After her retirement in 1983, she was an active volunteer at Interfaith Ministries in Cleveland and an avid bridge player.
She is preceded in death by her parents and stepfather and by her husband, Burke. She is survived by her son Dan and wife Kathy, son Tim and wife Joy; four grandchildren, Amy, Jean Marie, Stephen and Matthew Ellwood; a niece, Sherry Feagans; a nephew, Mike Ellwood; sister-in-law, Ardice Ellwood; a grand-nephew, Scott Raynes; and many friends.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland at 2 p.m. today (Saturday). In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to First United Methodist Church, Cleveland, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

Garcia
Adolfo Garcia, 78, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel, with rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2., with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tony V. Garcia Jr., Lawrence Garcia Jr., Rickey Garcia, T.J. Standiferd, George Quionez and Don Saniankone.
Mr. Garcia was born in Beeville on Jan. 3, 1926, to Yndalecio G. and Livarda (Garza) Garcia. He married Aurora Villarreal Garcia in 1947 in Bee County. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a carpenter and roofer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aurora, who died June 26, 2004.
Survivors include his niece and caretaker, Elizabeth Garcia Standiferd, and husband T.J. of Beeville; and numerous other relatives

Alaniz
Ashley Marie Alaniz, 21, of George West died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1983, in McAllen to Rosie Alaniz. She graduated from George West High School in 2001 and was a student at Coastal Bend College enrolled in the nursing program.
Miss Alaniz was preceded in death by her grandfather, Anselmo Alaniz; and an uncle, Anselmo “Mitto” Alaniz Jr.
Survivors include her mother, Rosie Alaniz; grandmother, Carolina Alaniz; her boyfriend, Danny Garcia of Hondo; an uncle, Arturo Alaniz of George West; three aunts, Louisa (Rusty) Brown and Connie Alaniz, all of George West, and Gloria (David) Shaw of Sedgwick, Kan.; and numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation was held Friday at Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church. Burial followed at St. George Catholic Cemetery.

Fonseca
Alberto Fonseca, 85, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Mathis.
Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated today (Wednesday) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial followed in Descansco Eterno Cemetery No. 1 in Mathis.
Pallbearers were Jason Leal, Joel Sandoval, Israel Morin, Bobby Fonseca, Raul Gutierrez III and Ubaldo Villarreal Jr.
A resident of Mathis, Mr. Fonseca was born in Barranco Blanco on Feb. 25, 1919, to Prudencio and Eulogia (Garcia) Fonseca. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his daughters, Joaquina Bustamante of Round Rock, Yolanda Leal, Minerva Villarreal, Norma Fonseca and Olga Garcia, all of Mathis, and Christina Fonseca of Calallen; his stepsons, Rogelio Salazar of Mathis, Valentin Morin of Rotan, Adan Morin of Stanton, Elvis Morin of Dallas, Israel Morin of Beeville and Raul Gutierrez III of Victoria; three brothers, Daniel and Jesus Fonseca, both of Mathis, and Jose Fonseca of Austin; 31 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Gonzales
Rafaela Barrera Gonzales, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in Beeville.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Joshua and Mathew Cantu, Servando Silva, Jimmy Rios Jr., David Rios and Oscar Chavarria III. Honorary pallbearers were John, Roland, Salome and Joey Gonzales, Candelario Rios and Richard Guajardo.
Mrs. Gonzales was born in Beeville on Aug. 16, 1929, to Fernando Sr. and Matiana (Perales) Barrera. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Castulo Gonzales, her parents, two sons, Antonio “Tony” and Ruben Gonzales, and a daughter, Maria Luisa Reyna.
Survivors include her daughters, Adelita Gonzales, Rosa Linda (Salvador) Silva, Virginia (Santiago) Rios, Maria Christina (Oscar) Chavarria, and Maria Luisa (Melivanel) Cantu, all of Beeville; two sons, Salome (Jennifer) Gonzales of Beeville and Jose Luis (Prisilla) Gonzales of Austin; four brothers, Fernando (Eulogia) Barrera and Rodolfo (Karen) Barrera, both of Beeville, Ernesto (Patricia) Barrera of Tomball and Baldemar (Ernestina) Barrera of Houston; 28 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
