Jerry Lawrence “J.L.” McCarver

Jerry Lawrence “J.L.” McCarver, 75, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007, after a nine-month battle against a traumatic brain injury he suffered while riding a personal transportation device.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home-Bowen Chapel in Arlington. Interment was at Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington.

J.L. was born Oct. 24, 1931, in  Whitehall, Coryell County. He was a U.S. Army veteran and owner and operator of several businesses in Arlington, including Mac Sporting Goods, and co-owner of M&S Western Wear and M&S Properties. He was a member and past president of the Arlington Rebel Riders Riding Club, member of the National Rifle Association, a 32nd-degree Mason with the Arlington Lodge #438 and a member of the Fort Worth Scottish Rite. J.L. also served on the Dalworthington Gardens City Council in 1972. He was passionate about the outdoors and for five years he coached his son’s baseball team with the Arlington Optimist League.

J.L. was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Don McCarver; and his father, Joe Lawrence McCarver.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, JoAnn; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and John DeVos of Springtown; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Cyndi McCarver of Lillian; grandchildren, Lindsay DeVos of Mansfield, J.T. and Katelyn DeVos of Springtown, Jace McCarver of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Jared and Kyle McCarver of Lillian; mother, Maedell McCarver of Gatesville; sisters, Linda Ann McClure and her husband, Jerry, of Gatesville and Sue Hodges and her husband, Jim, of Alvarado; brothers, Glen and his wife, Jerry, of Gatesville and Gary and his wife, Peggy, of Golinda; brother-in-law, Charles Hollabaugh and his wife, Darlene, of Holly Lake Ranch; sister-in-law, Patsy Solais of Arlington; nieces, Juli Allison, Stacie Swearingen, Misti Kennedy, Georgia Altom and Cheryl Tabbert; nephews, Jamie Hodges, Jodie Hodges, Tim McCarver, Terry McCarver, Toby McCarver, Jerry Solais, Matt McClure, Steven McClure and Sid Hollabaugh; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Russell S. Holt

Russell S. Holt died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at a Sugar Land hospital. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at First Baptist Church of Richmond with Dr. John Lockhart officiating.
Mr. Holt was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Gatesville. He served in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a 1948 graduate of Baylor University, and worked as an accountant with Mobil Oil for 35 years. Het was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sugar Land and First Baptist Church of Richmond, serving as a deacon, member of the Silver Tones Choir, and active in numerous church activities. He served as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Holt; son, David Holt; and brothers, Wayland Holt, Lowell Holt, Jim Holt and Garland Holt.
Survivors include sons, Garry Holt of Springtown and Larry Holt of Corpus Christi; daughter, Paula Bush of Bixby; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Brad Holt and William A. “Dub” Holt;

Memorials may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church of Richmond, TX or to College of the Ozarks.

John Clayton Ingram

John Clayton Ingram, age 20, of Little River,  Texas passed from this life into the next on April 11th, in Little River.
Clayton was born July 25, 1986 in Gatesville,  Texas. Clayton was raised and attended school in Gatesville until moving to Little River-Academy where he graduated in 2004. He was involved in FFA and active in football and track. Clayton went on to attend Temple College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Academy.
Clayton was an avid bull rider and lived to fish. He also enjoyed hunting and riding around with his friends, but most of all he loved his family. He will always be remembered for his beautiful blue eyes and his infectious personality. He had the wonderful ability to light up a room by simply being there.
Clayton is survived by his mother, Pat McCray and step-father Matt McCray of Little River; his father, John Ingram and step-mother, DeAnca Ingram of Terrell,  Texas; brother, Jarrod Ingram and wife, Trizma of Levita,  Texas; grandmother, Marilyn Robbins of Greenville, Ill; two nieces, Elizabeth and Jada. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

A celebration of Clayton’s life was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Academy,  Texas. Interment followed at Holland Cemetery in Holland,  Texas. The family received visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at The First Baptist Church in Academy.
Clayton’s pallbearers were his father, John Ingram; step-father, Matt McCray; brother, Jarrod Ingram; uncle, Kenny Robbins; cousin, D’Wayne Pavelka and his best friends, Gary Laxton & Anthony Cortese.

Edward Ludwig Kramer

Edward Ludwig Kramer died April 18, 2007, at a Waco hospital. He was 96.
Rosary was recited Friday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, and Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Burial was in Waco Memorial Park.
Mr. Kramer was born May 12, 1910, in Sandusky, OH. He attended Sandusky schools and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1928. He worked in the Sandusky area until 1937. He worked in various concrete plants throughout the country before moving to Waco in 1942. He was the plant manager for  Texas Concrete Works until his retirement in 1975. He and his wife, Leota, were co-owners of Magnolia Antiques until 1985. He was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He served as grand knight of the Waco Council 1358 of the Knights of Columbus in 1956-57. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include three sons, John Kramer of El Paso, Victor Kramer of Decatur, GA, and Dennis Kramer of Oglesby; daughter, Karen Griffin of Waco; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Stephen Herbert, Robert Ross, Henry Griffin, Donald McClinton, Roy Wegwerth and George Luck.

Joe W. Jones

Joe W.  Jones passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock after a brief illness.

Joe was born November 19, 1922 in Coryell County,  Texas. He graduated from Evant High School and attended Tarleton State College on a basketball scholarship. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he attended  Texas A&M University, where he graduated in 1948. He worked as assistant county agent for Lubbock County from 1948 until 1950, when he moved to Farwell. He served as county agent for Parmer County from 1950 until 1961 during which time he helped many producers locate their first irrigation well. He joined Security State Bank in 1961 where he worked for 44 years before retiring in 2006.

Joe was a founding member of the Texico-Farwell Rotary Club and a long time member of the Farwell Chamber of Commerce. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, and was selected Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1983. He also served as chairman of the Texico-Farwell Youth Commission.

He married Mary Irene Shanks on June 25, 1955 at West Camp.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jim B. and Flora  Jones and a brother, Bruce Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene; sister, Eva Edwards and brother-in-law, L.Z. Edwards of Gatesville,  Texas; two sons, Russ of Canadian and Brad and wife, Ellen of Euless,  Texas; granddaughters, Lauren and Amy; and five nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church, Farwell,  Texas or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo,  Texas 79174.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. (CDT) Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell,  Texas with Rev. Scott Spitsberg officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell.

Arrangements were by Steed-Todd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manan, Clovis, New Mexico, 505-763-5541

Lorene Denton

Lorene Denton of Gatesville died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at a McGregor nursing home. She was 87.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Hartsell Family Cemetery near Gatesville.

Mrs. Denton was born on Jan. 23, 1920 in Caddo, TX to the late James Madison and Rebecca Glover Whitley. She attended schools in Caddo and graduated from Caddo High School. She married Bill Denton in 1970. Mrs. Denton was a member of Westview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; and five brothers.

Mrs. Denton is survived by sons, Herman Lee Whitley and Roger Whitley of Gatesville and Mike Smith of Evant; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Fae Braziel

Mrs. Fae Braziel, age 74 of Gatesville, walked into the presence of her Savior on Wednesday, May 23, 2007.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter Davidson officiating. Burial followed at the Hemmeline Cemetery. The family received visitors Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Fae was born in the Plainview community on September 17, 1932. She grew up in the Plainview Community, attending school there and Gatesville. She married Jack Braziel August 27, 1949. Fae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She was a member of the Coryell Community Church and delivered funeral notices for the Gatesville Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey & Beulah Mae Bartlett Necessary, and a grandson, Zachary Wade Braziel.
Fae is survived by her husband Jack of Gatesville; sons, David Braziel, Gene Braziel and wife, Cherry and Doug Braziel and wife, Robin, all of Gatesville; brothers, Dwaine Necessary and wife, Laverne of Jonesboro, Bruce Necessary and wife, Becky, Jerry Necessary and wife, Audine and Van Necessary and wife, Sharon, all of Gatesville; grandchildren, Donna Sprouce, Jason Braziel, Brittany Currie, Shannon Thompson, Cortnie Hatton and Chad Braziel; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coryell Community Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 683, Gatesville, TX, 76528.

Rosie Limmer

Mrs. Rosie Limmer, age 77, of Gatesville, passed away Friday, May 25, 2007, at a McGregor nursing home.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City with Pastor Thomas Beers officiating. Burial followed at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Priddy.
Mrs. Limmer was born in San Angelo, TX, on October 19, 1929, to the late August and Minnie Wagner Niemann. She grew up in Miles and Veribest, graduating high school from Priddy. She married Clifford Limmer on October 20, 1949. They have resided in Gatesville since 1967. Mrs. Limmer was a homemaker and member of St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Grim; and brother, Durwood Niemann.
Mrs. Limmer is survived by her husband, Clifford Limmer of Gatesville; daughter, Beverly Altum and husband Denny of Coleman; sons, Russell Limmer and wife Helen of McGregor and Scott Limmer and wife Lisa of Waco; and six grandchildren, Trevor, James, Cordell and Andilina Limmer and Greg and Brent Niemeier.

Memorials may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Sterling (Ruth) Edwards

Mrs. Sterling (Ruth) Edwards, age 95 of Gatesville, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at a local hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Crosby and Dr. David Crosby officiating. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery. The family received visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Randy Haines, Bob Meharg, Roy Robb, Charles Wise, Bobby Vidler, Jerry Dyson, Stanley Chado, and James Baize. Honorary Pallbearers were John Frank Post, Loyd Lam, Ed Parrot, Donnie Brown, Charles Cook, Wayne Caldwell, Rickey Phillips, and the Deacons of Trinity Baptist Church.
Ruth Edwards was born February 12, 1912, in Gatesville to the late John Frank and Lillie Adams Smith. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1928. Ruth married Sterling Edwards, co-owner of the Gatesville Messenger, on December 18, 1930, at the First Baptist Church. They lived all of their married lives in Gatesville. Mr. Edwards preceded her in death in January 1973. Ruth worked part-time at the Gatesville Messenger for 20 years as county correspondent and Society Editor, retiring in 1997. She and her husband were associated with The Gatesville Messenger for more than 68 years.

She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she was a nursing home volunteer, department Sunday School director, WMU president and other offices. She has held offices in the associational WMU, Morris Federation and Eastern Star. Her hobbies included oil painting, ceramics, crocheting, all kinds of needlework, playing 84, and traveling.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Wilkinson and Lillian Reed; and four brothers: John Frank, Jr., Fred, Davis and Charles Smith.
Survivors include: son, Bob and his wife, Barbara; two grandsons, Brett Edwards and his wife, Kristi and daughters, Lauren Renee, Katelynn Ann, and Susan Catherine Edwards; and Brian Edwards and his wife, Amanda, and sons, Mason David and Logan Mark Edwards.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church of Gatesville.

William T. Rogers

William Rogers, 58, of Gatesville, died June 22, 2007, at his residence.
Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday in the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Rogers was born March 11, 1949, in North Kingstown, RI. He was the son of Lester Rogers and Gladys Wilcox Rogers. He attended school in Groton, CT and graduated from Fitch High School. He joined the Air Force in 1968, serving until 1975. He married Debra Tackett on Feb. 1, 1975. He was preceded in death by his father in 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Rogers; mother, Gladys Wilcox; sons, Robert Rogers and Matthew Batcho; daughters, Rebecca Gomez, Heidi Bobeck and Rene Torres; sister, Sharon Rogers; brothers, Charlie Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, David Rogers and Raymond Rogers; and 10 grandchildren.
