Wilson
A memorial service for Arthur A. Wilson, 74, of Bryan took place Friday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Lightsey officiating.
Mr. Wilson died Monday at Scott &  White Hospital in Temple. He was born in Wharton and had lived in Bryan since 1961. He received his associate’s degree from Bee County College and later worked there as a supervisor for many years. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a drummer in the Air Force Band. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Wharton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula D. Wilson.
Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Herbie Richards and Marcia and Mike Lightsey, all of Bryan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudy and Jane Wilson of Live Oak, Fla., and Weldon and Nettie Lou Wilson of Freer; a sister, Freda McCarty of Van Vleck; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Scott &  White Cancer Research Center, 2401 S. 31st St., Temple, TX 76501.
Arrangements were handled through Callaway- Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Carpenter
5/3/05
Ave Lea Bickford Carpenter, 87, died Sunday, May 1, 2005.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Graveside services will be held today (Wednesday) at Beeville Memorial Park with the Rev. Bevans Welder officiating. Special music will be provided by singer Doug Burton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray, Ronnie and Rick Bissett, Monte Paul, Matt and Mike Marshall, Sid Dugat, Lee Archer and numerous nephews.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Cuero on March 4, 1918, to William A. and Ave Marie (Wallingford) Bickford. She married Robert L. Carpenter in Cuero on Nov. 19, 1948. She was a Presbyterian. Mrs. Carpenter was co-owner of Carpenter’s Quick Serve Grocery Store and worked at the Beeville Livestock Association and Bickford Jewelry Store. She was a volunteer for the USO and a charter member of the Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Clare Dell Cain and Nora Alice Peurifoy, a brother, Joy Bickford, and a grandson, Adam C. Carpenter.
Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Carpenter of Beeville; two sons, William B. Carpenter and wife Bridget of Longview and A.W. “Pat” Cain and wife Chris of Georgetown; a daughter, Kelly Carpenter of Houston; and two grandsons, William B. Carpenter Jr. of Sugar Land and Bradley B. Carpenter of Kilgore.
Memorials may be made to the South  Texas Children’s Home or the American Cancer Society.

Freeborn
Sidney Thurston Freeborn, 78, died Monday, May 2, 2005, in an auto accident in Live Oak County. He was born to Sidney and Bella Freeborn on June 27, 1926, in San Antonio.
He married Jean Lucille Harris on Aug. 27, 1947, in Dilley. Mr. Freebom was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy. He was also retired rancher.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Lucille Freeborn of Orange Grove; four daughters, Sharon Ann (Dwain) Skrobarcek of San Antonio, Katheryn (Jimmy) Strause of George West, S. Lynn Freeborn of Portland, M. Elisabeth Freeborn (Kevin Fetterman) of Austin; one son, Sidney T. (Leda) Freeborn Jr. of George West; one brother, Marshall (Mary Ann) Freeborn of Cuero; 13 grandchildren, Sidney Jarrett Skrobarcek, Brian Keith Skrobarcek, Gregory Paul Skrobarcek, Dwain Edward Skrobarcek, Gabriel Paul Freeborn, Wesley Caleb Freeborn, Morgan Freeborn, Sidney Freeborn III, Jame Douglas Strause, Christopher Carl Strause, Kate Marie Thistle, Magen Lynn Marlborough and Harley Franklin Fetterman; eight great-grandchildren, Logan Keith Skrobarcek, Landon Blake Skrobarcek, Lathan Bain Skrobarcek, Bradley Thomas Strause, Kayla Jean Strause, Wyatt David Thistle, Kaylee Belle Freeborn and Savanna Leigh Strause.
The visitation will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Alice.
Funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Orange Grove. The graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. at the Mission Park South Cemetery in San Antonio.
Services were under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home of Alice.

Martinez
Maria O. Martinez, 86, lifelong resident of Floresville, died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at her daughter’s residence in Floresville.
Mrs. Martinez was born in Floresville on May 18, 1918, to Cosme and Fransisca (Zuniga) Ortiz. She attended Lodi schools and was a homemaker and a gardener. She married Louis B. Martinez, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, a sister, Ninfa Barrera, a brother, Rufino Ortiz, a daughter-in-law, Lucy Martinez, and a son-in-law, Rudy Borrego.
Mrs. Martinez is survived by her children, Adan Martinez, Eva Borrego, Lupe Martinez, Rose Moya and husband Juan, Louis “Bebo” Martinez Jr. and wife Janie, Feliz Janson and husband Charles, Anna Lee “Nelly” Rivas and husband Jesse, and Rufino Martinez and wife Rachel; 30 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation began at 2 p.m. Tuesday and a rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. at Vinyard Funeral Home chapel in Floresville. Funeral Mass was celebrated today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Floresville, with Father Janusz Barczyk officiating. Interment followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rene Martinez, David Travieso, Rex Perez, Vicente Treviño, Brian, Adam and Leonard Martinez and Patrick Janson.
Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home, Floresville.

Parker
Lorene Viola Parker, 86, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in Alice.
She was born in New Fountain on Nov. 3, 1918, to Folker and Anna Mary Muennenk.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Leslie L. Parker (Carol) of Dilley and James Parker (Mary) of Lagarto; a daughter, Barbara J. Lane (Billy) of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mrs. Parker was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Tabernacle of Praise Church in Alice.
Services were under the direction of Saxet Funeral Home.

Zuniga 5/3/05 ture
The Rev. Domingo E. “El Crow” Zuniga, 58, died Monday, May 2, 2005.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A second prayer service will be held tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. at Monte Del Olivar Christian Church. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. at Monte del Olivar with the Revs. Jesse DeLaGarza and Joe Martinez officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Joe Henry Gonzales, Arturo Gonzales Jr., Luis Balderas, Jaime Martinez, Joel Martinez and John Gutierrez Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlos and Joel Balderas and Gary Sandoval.
Rev. Zuniga was born in Beeville on March 2, 1947, to Benselado and Dominga (Espinosa) Zuniga. He married Consuelo Martinez on Nov. 20, 1965, in Beeville. He was co-pastor of Monte Del Olivar Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Consuelo M. Zuniga of Beeville; a daughter, Cristine M. Balderas and husband Fili of Corpus Christi; three sons, Mark M. Zuniga and wife Tina of Pasadena, Domingo M. Zuniga Jr. and Aaron Zuniga, both of Beeville; a brother, Benselado Zuniga Jr. and wife Maria of George West; three sisters, Lupe Casas and husband Juan of George West, Maria Cano of Beeville and San Juana Zuniga of Mississippi; and six grandchildren.

Barrientes
Maria Alicia Barrientes, 20, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in McAllen Medical Center.
She was born on March 26, 1985, in Beeville to Pedro and Rosa Barrientes.
She was preceded in death by her father and sisters, Gloria and Irene.
Survivors include her mother, Rosa E. Barrientes; her brothers, Pedro Jr. and Ella Barrientes, Alfredo and Maria Isabel Barrientes, Maximiano and Diana Barrientes, Ruben and Rolando Barrientes and Alberto and Brenda Barrientes; sisters, Margarita B. and Manuel Solis, Lydia B. and Candelario Rodriguez, Diana B. and Jorge Salinas and Elda Barrientes; and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.
Visitation took place Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Gonzalez Family Funeral Home of Edinburg with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Gonzalez Family Funeral Home of Edinburg.

Garcia
Reynaldo Z. Garcia, 68, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, in Corpus Christi.
A Beeville resident, Mr. Garcia was born in Hebbronville on May 9, 1936, to Saragosa and Panfila (De Leon) Garcia. He was a retired mechanic. He was a volunteer with the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years, and named the father of the BVFD. He was a former instructor at  Texas A&M for 17 years as a pump operator for fire fighters. He was also named fireman of the year for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jose M. Salazar.
Survivors include his wife, Elida Garcia; two sons, Jose A. and Abel R. Garcia, all of Beeville; two sisters, Gloria Medellin of Calallen and Alvesa Inmon of Beeville; a brother, P.C. Salazar of Beeville; six grandchildren, Christina Rae Countryman, Gloria Nea Garcia Guzman, Rebeca Jo Vasquez, Angela L. Garcia, Clarissa A. Garcia and Jose A. Garcia Jr.; six great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters.
A prayer service was to be held Friday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at the same location with Pastor Mark Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the BVFD.

Canales
4/27/05
Saturnino “Nino” Canales, 85, died Monday, April 25, 2005.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Mission in Tynan with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Burial will follow in Tynan’s Waldheim Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ramiro, Chano, Juan and Jesus Castillo, Guadalupe Garcia Jr. and Jose Angel Menchaca Jr.
Mr. Canales was born in Odem on Nov. 29, 1919, to Juan and Maria DeLaLuz (Lopez) Canales. He married Siria Alaniz on June 22, 1974, in Tynan. He was a retired painter who worked with Hunt Refinery and a member of St. Francis Xavier.
Survivors include his wife, Siria Alaniz Canales of Tynan; a son; a sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.

4/26/05
Robert M. Hyturria, 53, died Friday, April 22, 2005, in a Corpus Christi hospital.
A resident of Beeville, Mr. Hyturria was born here on July 14, 1951, to Roberto Sr. and Guadalupe (Moreno) Hyturria.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brothers, Tommy Joe Rodriguez and Epifanio Jesus Gonzales.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Treviño Hyturria; his mother, Guadalupe Moreno Hyturria; his daughter, Dorothy (Jimmy Sylva) Hyturria; his son, John Robert (Leticia) Hyturria, all of Beeville; his sisters, Rose Mary Rodriguez, Alcaria Carrizales and Gracie Foster; his brothers, Cayetano and Fernando Cisneros, Sylvestor and Larry Rodriguez, all of Cuero; five grandchildren, Joshua and Joseph Posada, Jurnee Cano, Jordan Sylva and Gabriella Hyturria.
Rosary was recited Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Luke officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers were Joe, Phillip, Freddy, Charlie and Jerry Treviño and Ruben Flores.
