Martinez
Martin B. Martinez Sr., 82, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005.
Visitation will be held tonight (Wednesday) from 5 to 9 o’clock at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Eric Garcia, Cruz Martinez Jr., Jason Porras, Aaron Martinez, Justin Pfahler and John Wall. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the other grandsons.
Mr. Martinez was born in Monte Morelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on Jan. 2, 1923, to Jose and Amelia (Balladarez) Martinez. He married Juanita Naranjo on Sept. 24, 1949, in Beeville. He was a retired employee with the City of Beeville and a member of St. Joseph’s.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita N. Martinez of Beeville; three sons, Cruz Martinez of Ganado, Martin Martinez Jr. of Houston and Joe Martinez of Corpus Christi; six daughters, Amelia Garcia of Victoria, Maggie Porras, Maria Wall and Luisa Pfahler, all of Beeville, Lupita Martinez of Corpus Christi and Crystal Hathaway of San Antonio; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one half-brother, Benino Ramirez of Mission.

Ruiz
Dora Vidaurri Ruiz, 79, of George West died Saturday, May 14, 2005, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
She was born in Roma on March 23, 1926, to Antonio and Hilaria (Rios) Vidaurri. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eloy Ruiz Sr., and her parents.
Survivors include her daughters, Maria Ruiz (Santiago) Cantu of Mathis and Rufina (Angel) Ruiz of Three Rivers; her sons, Eloy (Mary) Ruiz Jr. of Beeville and Bert (Gloria) Ruiz of George West; two sisters, Concepcion Padron of Mathis and Bertha Sanchez of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited Monday at 7:30 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. George Catholic Church. Burial followed in St. George Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rodney Cantu, Rudy Ruiz, Michael Cantu, Leroy Ruiz, Bertie Ruiz, Christopher Ruiz, Alfred Soliz and Robert Esquivel.

Johnston
Lonnie Ray Johnston Sr.,83, of Orange Grove died Thursday, May 12, 2005.
Mr. Johnston was born on April 13, 1922, in Bransdahl, Okla. He was a retired oilfield derrick man.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary (Juan) Olivo of San Diego, Christine (Michael) Olive of Beeville and Lavenia Wills of Orange Grove; four sons, Lonnie (Betty) Johnston of Flour Bluff, Horace (Elaine) Johnston of Alice, Maco (Wesseleen) Johnston of Orange Grove and Albert (Emily) Johnston of Odem; a sister, Betty Nelson of Beeville; two brothers, Warren Johnston of Comanche, Okla., and Fred Johnston of Bakersfield,  Calif.; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday at the same location. Burial will follow in the Alice Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled through Holmgreen Mortuary Inc., Alice.

Miles
George Arthur “Bud” Miles, 82, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Rockport, after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 21, 1922, in New Castle, Pa. Mr. Miles served in the U. S. Navy during World War II aboard P.T. boats. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. Upon receiving his honorable discharge on Dec. 10, 1945, Bud returned to  Pennsylvania where he graduated from Penn State and went to work for the Social Security Administration.
After moving to Port Aransas in 1964, he enjoyed fishing and meeting with friends on the waterfront. He had moved to Rockport two years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Miles of Rockport; his children, Charles Miles of Corpus Christi, Patricia McCann of Mineral and Clark Miles of Port Aransas; his stepchildren, Ray Balentine of Rockport and Glenda Balentine of Port Aransas.
A private memorial service will be held upon Captain Clark Miles’ vessel at a later date.
Mr. Miles was a lifelong supporter of the Salvation Army and the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his memory to that organization.
Arrangements were handled through Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc.

Spindle
Mary Marie Geesee Spindle, 84, died Thursday, May 12, 2005.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel in Three Rivers. Graveside services will take place today (Saturday) at Hahls Memorial Cemetery in Freer with Pastor Bill Duke officiating. Special music by Duke will include “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” “God on the Mountain” and “Jesus Will Be What Makes it Heaven for Me.”
Mrs. Spindle was born in Okmulgee, Okla., on Aug. 26, 1920, to Albert William and Mary Corina (Buckner) Geesee. She marrried Will Hargus Spindle on March 12, 1953, in Duval County. She was a Baptist, a homemaker and a member of Eastern Star. She resided in Beeville and was a longtime resident of Freer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Hargus Spindle, a son, Forrest Wayne Haynes, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Claudine Ramsey of Beeville and Jonell Maxwell of Freer; a sister, Irma Lou Hunter of Pleasanton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Timlin
Frances St. Clair (Peggy) Cox Timlin, 90, died on May 12, 2005, in a Kingsville hospital. She was born on April 7, 1915, in Beeville, to Judge Robert E. Lee and Minnie Lucille Hayes Cox.
A third generation Texan, she is the granddaughter of the late Rev. Alexander Findley Cox and Amelia Varian Atlee, who moved to  Texas in 1856 from Virginia and Tennessee and settled in Goliad, a mere village then. Rev. Cox was a Methodist minister circuit rider for all the South  Texas District, president of the Aranama College in Goliad, editor of the original Goliad paper, the Goliad Messenger, and tithe collector for the Confederate government during the Civil War.
Her parents were the late Judge Robert E. Lee Cox and Minnie Lucille Hayes Cox of Beeville. Her father and late uncle, District Judge Thomas F. Cox, established the law firm of Cox & Cox, Attorneys of Law in Beeville.
Frances graduated in 1933 from Beeville High School as the salutatorian, and then attended  Texas State Christian Women’s College in Denton. She graduated from  Texas A&I University in Kingsville, with a B.S. in elementary education. During World War II, she was a weather girl at the Corpus Christi Naval Base instructing pilots of the current weather conditions before their takeoffs. She taught fifth grade for 28 years at Flour Bluff Elementary School and Kleberg Elementary School in Kingsville. She was also a tutor for the Literacy Council. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Corpus Christi,  Texas State Teachers’ Association, Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter in Corpus Christi, where she served as historian for many years, and a member of the Colonial Dames (Descendants of the Original Colonial States of the United States of America).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Timlin Jr., and grandson, William Garrett Rich.
She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Gail Spencer Birdwell, and her partner in life, Joe M. Cavazos of Kingsville and Goliad, four grandchildren, Kim Cherryhomes and Colt Coble Birdwell, both of Houston, D. Matthew Birdwell of Pleasanton,  Calif., and Gregory Clinton Rich of Corpus Christi, nine great-grandchildren, her companion and provider, Juana Vela, and numerous cousins (known as the Cox’s Army), friends, nieces and nephews. Of her 14 siblings, only two sisters survive, Mrs. Bill (Lyla) Olive of Aransas Pass and Mrs. Tom (Teenie) Reilly of Mineral Wells.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Corpus Christi. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the National Parkinson’s Association, or to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville.

Cumpian
Diana Cumpian, 59, died Monday, July 18, 2005.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will take place today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at the same location with the Rev. Jessy DeLaGarza officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers will be James Huebner, Ted Lara, Sonny Ray Ojeda, Joe Rocha, Pablo Gutierrez, Rufino Gutierrez, Marty Moya, Silbestre Porras, Jesus Mendoza and Jose Manuel Ojeda.
Mrs. Cumpian was born in Palacios on April 17, 1946, to Alejandro H. and Eva (Lucio) Cantu. She was raised by Juan Pardo.
She resided in Beeville and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her guardian and two brothers, Mele and Jerry Cantu.
Survivors include her daughters, Victoria Cruz Cardona and Carla Kay Gutierrez, both of Houston; two sons, Jose Manuel and Sonny Ray Ojeda, both of Beeville; 17 grandchildren; 10 sisters, Clara Lara of Corpus Christi, Mary Lou Bexley of Thomson, Ga., Donna Worden, Ortencia Cantu, Gloria Topewith, Emma Rangel and Miroslava Huebner, all of Beeville, Josephine Wells of Grand Rapids, N.D., Christela Trujillo and husband Mino of Silver Spring, Md., and Angie McClain of Flour Bluff; two brothers, Eugene Pardo of Corpus Christi and Alex Cantu Jr. of Beeville.

Gomez
Lucinda Gomez, 91, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Spring Season Nursing Home.
She was born in Beeville on Oct. 7, 1913, to Abelardo and Dolores (Martinez) Gutierrez. Mrs. Gomez was a housewife and a Catholic. She was married to Arnulfo Gomez Sr., who preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a housewife and a Catholic.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gomez was preceded in death by a son, Jose Gomez, and a brother, Abelardo Gutierrez.
Survivors include her daughters, Elva (Andres) Saenz and Maria Calderon, both of Beeville, Hortencia Perez of Rockport and Anita (Jose) Garcia of Tynan; her sons, Espidio (Juanita) Gomez, Arnulfo (Susie) Gomez and Juan Gomez, all of Beeville, and Adolfo (Eulalia) Gomez of Beaumont; two sisters, Adela (Lupe) Valdez and Elvira Benavidez, both of Beeville; 32 grandchildren; and 78 great-grandchildren.
Rosary was to be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Clareville’s San Pedro Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alfredo Gomez, Miguel Perales, Manuel Salazar, Arturo Gomez Jr., Jesse Garcia and Daniel Saenz.

Rodriguez
Eva Juarez Rodriguez, 84, died Monday, July 18, 2005, in Corpus Christi’s Kindred Hospital.
She was born in Beeville on Jan. 14, 1921, to Antonio and Herlinda (Chapa) Juarez. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
Survivors include her special friend, Henry Moreno Sr. of Beeville; her daughter, Lucilla A. Guerrero of Beeville; her son, Vicente “Tiny” (Estefana) Lopez III of Beeville; her sister, Esther Medina of Beeville; her brother, Antonio (Gloria) Juarez of Arroyo Grande,  Calif.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited tonight (Wednesday) at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be recited Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.

Soliz
Juanita Leos Soliz, 95, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at her home in Beeville.
She was born in Waco on March 9, 1909, to Gorgonio and Melquiades (Revilla) Leos. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
Survivors include her daughters, Lucy (Bobby) Vanden, Carolina (Apolinar) Villafana and Eloisa (Richard) Longoria, all of Fort Worth, and Lupita Sanchez of Beeville; her sons, Robert and Avelardo “Lalo” (Esther) Valdez, both of Beeville, and Gilbert (Soila) Valdez of Sinton; her sister, Elvira Capetillo of Waco; 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Luke officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Albert, Balde, Michael and James Valdez, Jerry Vanden and Domingo Villafana.
