SILVAS
Jose Luis Silvas, 47, died on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, in Beeville. He was born on Jan. 13, 1958, in Mathis.
His father, Maximo Silvas, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Silvas; sons and daughters, Joe Maximo (Melissa) Silvas, Sara (Gonzalo) Echavarria, Esmeralda (Jimmy Raye) Williams, Felicia Florez, Janie Leandra Florez and Ruth Ruiz, all of Mathis; his mother, Remigia O. Silvas; brothers and sisters, Lydia Villarreal of Franklin, Alma Delgado of Stanford, Aurora (Jesus) Huerta, Alicia Silvas DeLeon, both of Mathis, Amelia Lopez of Franklin, Domingo Silvas, Rogelio Silvas, Alberto Silvas, all of Mathis, Abel Silvas of Sandia and Arnoldo Silvas of Mathis.
Public visitation was held Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home in Mathis with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis. Interment followed at Descanso Eterno Cemetery No. 2 in Mathis.

Campbell
Vivian Marie Crenshaw Campbell, 82, died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006. She resided in Beeville and was a retired restaurant owner.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Crenshaw, and mother, Dora Barnes Crenshaw.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann Sparks Zorn of Mountain Home; four grandchildren, Wayne Fulfer of Jacksboro, Shawn Fry of Cisco, Tracy Moreno of Beeville, and Trey Sparks of George West; and several great-grandchildren.
Ms. Campbell will be cremated.

Mrs. Carpenter
Dorothy Mae Carpenter, 81, passed away on January 5, 2006. She was born to James M. and Annie Juenger Dorsey on October 26, 1924 in Beeville,  Texas. On January 11, 1946 Dorothy married Richmond Carpenter in Sinton,  Texas.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville,  Texas. Because of Mrs. Carpenter’s dedication to her church she was honored for her 40 plus years of service. She received the Diocese of Corpus Christi Medal of Honor Award. This special diocesan award is given by the Bishop when a parish feels that an outstanding parishioner has shown dedication and service for the good of the parish and the diocese over a long period of time. Dorothy was a member of Mardi Gras Ball Association of St. Joseph Alter Society. She was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. Store in Beeville where she was a manager and retired after 28 1/2 years of service.
She is survived by her husband Richmond Carpenter of Beeville,  Texas; her son Richmond E. Carpenter, II of Beeville,  Texas; grandson Richmond E. Carpenter III of Refugio,  Texas; granddaughter Annie Bailey of Beeville,  Texas; two great-grandchildren, Shyanne Bailey and Justice D. Carpenter; a brother, George E. Dorsey of Alamo,  Texas; two sisters, Anna Mary Ward of San Antonio,  Texas and Margaret Love of  Louisiana; niece Valerie Ann Dorsey Schweers and husband Gary of San Marcos,  Texas; newphew James M. (Jimmy) Dorsey and wife Debbie of Durham, North Carolina; and a special sister-in-law Rose Dorsey.
Visitation was held Sunday, January 8, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church that same evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, January 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating and musical selections included “Ave Maria”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers were the 4th degree Knights of Columbus.

Mrs. Lamprecht
Jaynel M. Bertrand Lamprecht, 58, died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006. She was a cosmetologist and a member of the Catholic church. She resided in Skidmore.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Father Patrick Donohoe officiated. Special songs included “Amazing Grace” and “Rock of Ages.” She will be cremated.
Mrs. Lamprecht was born on July 19, 1947, in Port Arthur to the late Gloria Thelma Bouse and Eldas Joseph Bertrand. She married Richard David Lamprecht.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Richard Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Richard D. Lamprecht of Skidmore; one daughter, Desiree Dawn Dolezal (Evan) of Frisco; one sister, Earline Jean Gernand of Bay City; two brothers, Robert Earl Bertrand (Nina) of Bay City, Allan Dale Bertrand (Shirley) of Houston; and grandchild, Cullen Thomas Dolezal of Frisco.

Mr. Lawrence
Roy Alvin Lawrence, 86, died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006. He was a retired plant operator for Amoco Plant in Pettus.
Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. A funeral service was held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at that chapel with ministers Marc Stone and Robert Moore officiating. Special songs were sung by the congregation. Burial followed at the Beeville Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers were Michael Todd, Kenneth Ware, Lance Dowdy, Keith Webb, Ronnie Smith and Kyle Mansker.
Honorary pallbearers were Albert Randall, Lester McCoy, Doyle Childress, Jack Elder, Ted Denson and George Isaacs.
Mr. Lawrence was born on July 1, 1919, in Asher, Okla., to the late Willie Brewer and William Henry Lawrence. On July 31, 1939, he married Eva Majors Lawrence in Allen, Okla. He resided in Beeville and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mr. Lawrence served in the National Guard and in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was transferred to Beeville from Tulsa, Okla., in 1949. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ where he served as a teacher and an elder for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Lawrence of Beeville; a son, David Lawrence (Linda) of Abilene; a daughter, Darlene Todd (David) of Beeville; four grandchildren, Lindy Dowdy of New Braunfels, Lorri Ware of Abilene, Dana Ross of Mount Dora, Fla., and Michael Todd of Dallas; nine great-grandchildren, Landa, Landry, Luke and Lacy Dowdy, Sierra, Rylee and Kendra Ware, Kayley and McKenna Ross; one sister, Mary Calvert (Dale) of Tulsa, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Bandina Christian Youth Camp, P.O. Box 3383, Alice, TX 78333.

Lt. Col. Parks
Retired Lt. Col. L.C. Parks Jr., 85, died on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. He was a command pilot for the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Parks was born on Aug. 19, 1920, to the late Corrine Slade and J.M. Warfield. He married Mildred June Parks on Aug. 11, 1942. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pettus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred June Parks; father, J.M. Warfield; mother, Corrine (Slade) Warfield; and brother, David Warfield (missing in action in Korean War).
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Michael) Rheinlaender of New Braunfels and Linda (Richmond) Carpenter of Beeville; one son, Larry (Sharon) Parks of Blanchard, Okla.; one brother, Billy Warfield of Seguin; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Family received friends on Sunday at the Eckols Chapel. A graveside service with military honors was held on Monday, with Wesley Barnett officiating. Burial was held at the Mineral Cemetery in Mineral.
Lt. Col. Parks flew B-17’s in WW2, recalled in 1968 during the Pueblo incident and remained on active duty, flying C46’s, C119’s and C124’s in Vietnam. He was a member of the 433rd Airlift Command in San Antonio, the Beeville Masonic Lodge 0261 for 50 years, Kenedy Rotary Club, Bexar Ramblers Camper Club and a board member of Pettus Municipal Utility District.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice.

Mr. Phillips
Antonia Hidalgo Phillips, 78, died on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, in Angleton. She was from Beeville.
Visitation was on Sunday and funeral services were held on Monday at the Palms Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed at the Angleton Cemetery. Pallbearers were J.T. Pena, Jonathon Pena, Jason Phillips, Miguel Brionez Hidalgo, Salvador Brionez Hidalgo and Paco F. Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips was born on April 12, 1927, in Motril, Spain, to the late Joaquin and Anna Hidalgo Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Roy Pena; and grandson, Joel A. Phillips.
Survivors include her husband, Jack L. Phillips ; sons, Jose (Juani) Phillips of Cartagena, Spain, Juan (Elsa) Phillips of Angleton, Paquito (Elena) Phillips of Cartagena, Spain, and Charles (Norma) Phillips of Oak Grove, Ky.; daughters, Maricarmen (Benito) Brionez of Cartagena, Spain, and Maria (Roy) Pena of Angleton; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Gibson
Mrs. Ella Beth Sherling Gibson, 80, died on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006.
Mrs. Gibson was born on Jan. 15, 1925, in Kirwin, Kan., to the late Jess W. Sherling and Myrtle Power. She married Murl E. Gibson on Aug. 21, 1948, in Hoisington, Kan. She resided in Beeville as a homemaker and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gibson was also heavily involved in AARP local and district level.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Ada Jean Tomlinson, and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from noon-3 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the graveside in Glenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Duke will officiate.
Survivors include two sons, Kent Gibson (Carolann) of Seguin, Monte Gibson (Ann) of Corpus Christi; one daughter, Gayla Gibson of San Antonio; one brother, Jess. E. Sherling (Sandra) of San Antonio; two sisters, Virginia Hooper (William) of Bogue, Kan., Bernettia Follis (Norman) of Phillipsburg, Kan.; two grandsons, Cavan Maddox (Sandra) of Corpus Christi, Eric Gibson (Emily) of Mathis; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Gibson of Lott, Ian Maddox and Madison Maddox, both of Corpus Christi, and Michael Gibson of Mathis.
Memorials may be made to the local Salvation Army.

Smitherman
Jim Smitherman, 94, died on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006. He was a farmer and rancher from Cadiz.
Mr. Smitherman was born on Oct. 26, 1911, to the late Barnes and Sally Smitherman in Abernathy. He married Fern Brown Smitherman on April 14, 1979, in Big Wells.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Henry Coleman; first wife, Dolly Burris Smitherman; parents; and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Smitherman of Big Wells; eight stepchildren, Wesley Brown Coleman of New Braunfels, Daisy Hayley of McKinney, Johnny Coleman of San Antonio, Alma Colston of Arcada, Jackie Marburger of Pearsall, Mary K. Doolin of Dallas, Polly Ackerman of San Antonio and Ruby Lindsey of Florida; numerous step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and step-great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Thelma Slayton-Hawkins of Beeville, and Jean Horton-Mitchen of Houston.
Visitation will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. at Cadiz Baptist Church in Cadiz. The Rev. R.C. Jeanes will officiate. Burial will follow at Three Rivers Cemetery in Three Rivers.
