William (Bill) Robertson Caldwell III

William (Bill) Robertson Caldwell III, age 65, of Levita, passed away, surrounded by his family, on September 26, 2010.

Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the Levita Cemetery with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating.

Mr. Caldwell was born on October 11, 1944, in Waco,  Texas, to the late William Robertson Caldwell Jr. and Anna Louise Nixon Caldwell. He was raised in Waco and lived there until 2005, when he moved to Gatesville and then to Levita. Growing up he played baseball and loved hunting, fishing and camping. Mr. Caldwell enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964, serving his country in Vietnam on the Aircraft Carriers Tycondroga and the Hancock. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1967. Mr. Caldwell married Shirley Earlene Hall in Tijuana, Mexico, on October 8, 1967, and in Escondido, CA, on March 23, 1968.

Mr. Caldwell is survived by his wife, Shirley Earlene Caldwell of Levita; his mother, Etta Caldwell of Longview; sons, Shawn Caldwell and wife, Rena, of Gatesville, Preston Morgan and wife, Rainey, of Weaver, AL, and Doug Morgan and wife, Chris, of Virginia; a brother, Randy Caldwell and wife, Becky, of Mississippi; a sister, Jo Allen Pelt and husband, Billy, of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Ashley Caldwell, Ethan Caldwell, Andrew Farr, Joshua Farr, Matthew Morgan, Michelle Morgan, Melissa Morgan, Elaina Morgan, Victoria Morgan, Aunna Morgan and Joshua Morgan.

Peggy Lee Wolff

Peggy Lee Wolff, age 77, of Gatesville, passed away surrounded by her family, on Thursday, September 30, 2010.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Scott’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Beaty officiating. Burial followed at Flint Creek Cemetery.

Peggy was born on August 7, 1933, in Houston,  Texas, to the late James William and Minnie Lee Ray McElroy. She attended school in Florence and Gatesville. She married Joe David Wolff on January 6, 1969. They made their home in the Owl Creek community. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2002. Peggy loved to sew, quilt and fish.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Tommy Joe Wolff; two brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her sons, David Lee Wolff and wife, Christie, of Robinson and Carl James Lacy of Dallas; daughters, ReeDonna Lynn Miller, Tammy Lacy and husband, George Akers, and Janice Lee Smith and husband, Tom, all of Gatesville; sisters, Wanda Walker, Janice Caudle and Patsy Blanchard; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.

Louie Lavon Walter

Louie Lavon Walter, of McGregor, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010. He was 81.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in McGregor with the Rev. Lianne Turner officiating. Private inurnment was in Crawford Cemetery.

Mr. Walter was born Aug. 30, 1929, in McLennan County, to James Fredrick and Ollie Alletha (Mitchell) Walter. He attended school in Speegleville. He married Ima Walker in Chilton on May 25, 1952. He was in the U.S. Army. He and his wife moved from Golinda to McGregor in 1965. He was employed as a mechanic by Tom Kirk Ford in McGregor and Bird-Kultgen Ford in Waco. He was later employed by Central Freight Lines as a truck driver. He retired in 1995, after 27 years of service. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Friendship Builders Class and the Methodist Men and served as a treasurer and an usher. He was a 55-year Mason and held a dual membership in the James V. Callen Da-Lite Lodge #1422 in Dallas and Fidelis Lodge #1127 in Waco. He was a 32nd degree Mason as a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Austin Orient of  Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jimia Lee Ruff.

Survivors include his wife, Ima; sons, Mitchel Walter of Riverside, Jeff Walter of McGregor and Mark Walter of Gatesville; daughters, Patricia Abbe of Arlington and Dana  Jones of McGregor; brothers, Arvis Walter of Robinson and Cecil Walter and Billy Joe Walter, both of South Bosque; sisters, Louise  White of Lorena, Mary Leard of Terrell and Virginia Dean Mudge of  Texas City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 500 South Madison St., McGregor, TX 76657 or Providence Hospice, 4830 Lakewood, Suite 5, Waco, TX 76710.

Robert Marshall Jackson

Robert Marshall Jackson, of Dublin, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at his residence. He was 82.

Graveside services were held Wednesday at Bunyan Cemetery, officiated by Dale West.

Mr.  Jackson was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Coryell County to Foy Marshall and Zelma Lee Whitton Jackson. He married Ruth Evelyn Bishop in Weatherford on May 13, 1958. He was veteran of the U.S. Army. He was in sales and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a daughter.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Dublin; son, Ronnie of Gatesville; daughters, Sandra West and Denise Collins, both of Burleson, and Tina  Johnson and Robie Armstrong, both of Dublin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Myrtia Hughes

March 14, 1913–November 15, 2010

Myrtia Long Hughes, age 97, of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010, at a local nursing home.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010, at Gatesville Funeral Home. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.

Myrtia was born on March 14, 1913, in Limestone County to the late Charley and Cornelia Moore Vandyke. She grew up in Coryell County. She married Willard Long in 1930; he preceded her in death in 1958. She then married Marvin Hughes in November 7, 1965; he died December 4, 2007. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God in Brenham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her daughter, Marilyn Morse.

Myrtia is survived by daughter, Juanita Erwin of Brenham; sons, Bill Long and wife, Myrt, of Gatesville and Marvin Hughes Jr. of Brenham; sisters, Gladys Franklin and Joyce Mensch, both of Gatesville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Harry Mason Bullard

Harry Mason Bullard, age 75, passed from this life on November 3, 2010.

He was born in Hamilton,  Texas, on September 9, 1935, to Floyd and Mamie Rucker Bullard. He married Gwynda Williams on December 26, 1954. After graduating from Hamilton High School in 1954, he attended Baylor University on a football scholarship. He transferred to  Louisiana College in Pineville,  Louisiana in 1956, and was selected on the All-Gulf States Conference Team in 1958. He graduated from  Louisiana College in 1958. After graduation from LC he coached and taught in Clifton,  Texas, for two years. Harry and Gwynda then moved to Irving for six years before moving back to Hamilton to go into the service station and used cars business with his brother, Alton.

Harry was an avid golfer and eventually went into the golf cart sales business. He retired in 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marion and Alton Bullard.

He is survived by Gwynda, his wife of 56 years; his son, Mason and wife, Tracy, of Hamilton; and daughter, Vere Conrad and husband, Scott, of Clifton. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Logan and Landon Bullard, Julie Hinote and husband, Mike, Tim Miller and wife, Ashley, and Jami Conrad.

Other survivors are two brothers, Gene Bullard and wife, Louise, of Sulpher,  Louisiana, and Clayton Bullard and wife, Helen, of Marksville,  Louisiana; two sisters, Doris Conner and husband, Curtis, of Centerpoint,  Louisiana, and May Aymond and husband, Erroll, of Effie,  Louisiana; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Riley Funeral Home on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Felton officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Jamie Martin, T.J. Wilson, Casey Sommerfeld, Boyd Holley, Jon Mark Jester, Stanley Sellers, Randy Gardner and Aaron Gardner. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Gautier, Jimmy Whitt, Stanley Stanford, Cart Jones, Carl Dunlop, Billy Powell, Frank Sprague, Ray Williams, Jan Pearcy, Jesse Kirkland and Kenneth Boatwright.

Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
