Martinez
Isabel “Chavez” Martinez, 91, died on Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Beeville.
Mr. Martinez was born on Sept. 17, 1912, in Clareville, to Joe Martinez and Florinda Soliz. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as one daughter, Janie Martinez Rivas, and Cosme Martinez.
Mr. Martinez was a retired plumber and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Manuela Diaz Martinez of Beeville; two daughters, Rosalinda (Robert) McKenzie of Arkansas and Mary A. Peña of Corpus Christi; nine sons, Rene Martinez, Albert Martinez and Ysabel Martinez Jr., all of Beeville, Ricardo (Esmeralda) Martinez and Robert (Kathy) Martinez, both of Houston, Carlos (Minnie) Martinez and Raymond (Terry) Nunez, both of San Antonio, Amador Martinez of Dallas, and Ray (Sandy) Martinez of California; 35 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jose Martinez of Fort Worth and Rogelio Martinez of Beeville; and two sisters, Virginia Guajardo of Beeville and Maria Longoria of Sinton.
Rosary was recited on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Aaron Peña, Richard C. Peña, Jose Cantu, Gabriel Cantu, Mike Gallagher and Ysabel Martinez III.

Athey
3/1/05
Catherine Athey, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Duke officiating. Special music included “The Lord’s Prayer,” “Jesus, Jesus Precious Jesus,” “I’ll Fly Away” and “You are my Wholeness,” with organist Lucille Kinkler and singer Tucker Rackley. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Gary Jones, Ed Wicker, Thad Moore, Bo  White, Allen Dunn and Dewayne Bowman Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Beasley, Jimmie Jackson, Kenneth McClintock, Carl  White, Woody May, Ralph Gaither, Don Ward, Dickie Rudeloff, Dr. John Hester, Clyde Lacy, Tommy Wroten, Jack Stewart, Herman Sandlin, Wilbur  Taylor and Loncito Cartwright.
Mrs. Athey was born in Leon County on Feb. 8, 1916, to Thomas Henry and George Amanda (Kirksey) Stanton. She was a member of FUMC. In 1941, she and her husband, Arthur, purchased a building on North  Washington Street which became Athey’s Tire Service. Mrs. Athey and her husband ran the business together until Arthur died in 1994.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, Wednesday Luncheon Club and the Home Arts Club. She was given her 50-year pin for the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Athey was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M. Athey, on Dec. 15, 1994, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Athey Young and husband Michael of Beeville and Sandra Athey Keener and husband Milburn of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Billings
3/1/05
James “Jim” Edward Billings, 66, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.
Mr. Billings was a native of Beeville. In 1963 he moved to Corpus Christi. He was a retired schoolteacher with the Robstown Independent School District.
Mr. Billings was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Frieda Billings.
He is survived by his wife, Carol D. Billings of Corpus Christi; one brother, L. Charles Billings; one sister, Verna Jean Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church in Corpus Christi, 3401 Santa Fe.
Arrangements were handled through Seaside Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.

Lott
3/1/05
Edna E. Danz Lott, 96, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005.
Graveside services were held today (Wednesday) at 1:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio.
Mrs. Lott was born in Stonewall on June 7, 1908, to Richard and Emelie (Jacoby) Danz. She married Walter Langbein in 1932, who preceded her in death. She married Victor A. Lott in 1943 in Fort Riley, Kan. She was a Lutheran and belonged to the Church of the Good Shepherd in San Antonio. A Beeville resident, Mrs. Lott worked as a seamstress during World War II and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Emilie (Jacoby) Danz; her first husband, Walter Langbein; her second husband, Victor A. Lott; five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her son, Frank Langbein and wife Patricia of Beeville; two sisters, Paula Schnider and Cora Danz, both of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Russell Langbein of San Diego,  Calif., Vicki Jenks of Skidmore and Perry Lee Langbein of San Marcos; two great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Langbein of San Diego,  Calif., and Megan Jenks of Phoenix, Ariz.

Tapia
3/1/05
Inocencio C. Tapia, 70, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005.
Visitation was held Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Christopher Lee Tapia, Domingo Puga Jr., Jonny and Jacob Puga, Augustine Esparza and Ricky Acuña Jr.
Mr. Tapia was born in Beeville on Aug. 20, 1934, to Jose C. Sr. and Maria (Chavarria) Tapia. He resided in Beeville and was a retired cemetery foreman for Mission Burial Parks in San Antonio. He was a member of St. James.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Jose Tapia Sr., Jessie Tapia, Israel Chavarria, Estela C. Tapia, Isabel C. Tapia, Angelita C. Tapia and Adelina C. Rodrigues.
Survivors include his son, Enocencio Tapia Jr. and wife Natalia; two daughters, Mary Jane T. Puga and husband Domingo and Rosa Maria Gonzales and husband Javier, all of Beeville; four sisters, Alvina T. Elizalde and husband Santos of Broaddus, Anestacia T. Zapata and husband Ramon, Felipa T. Peña and Eva Garcia and husband Pantaleon, all of Beeville; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

GONZALES
Josephine (Covarrubias) Gonzales, 74, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Josie was born Dec. 3, 1930. She is a direct descendant of Captain Blas de la Garza Falcon. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1949. She was an original member of the Hi-Fairnesse Girls Club. In 1957 she married Raul (Chino) Gonzales of Taft. They moved to Orange County,  Calif. Josie was a supervisor for Rockwell International for 28 years and retired. In those years she loved to paint in the Southwestern style.
In 1992, Josie was informed that she had cancer, the doctors told her she had three months to live. She believed that she would be healed. After all, the Doctor of all doctors Jesus Christ would heal her. In her faith, she was healed.
In 2000 Josie and Chino moved to Beeville. Josie loved to grow her orchids and tend to her greenhouse. She was active in church and her Cancer Support group CHEERS. In 2004 her cancer came back. Even during her illness, and in pain, she was always an inspiration to others who were battling cancer.
Josie would drive others to treatment, doctor appointments, speaking to doctors and cancer patients and providing other forms of support. Josie always said she was ready to go to heaven when the Lord would call upon her. After all, she had been a good soldier for the Lord and was a good wife, mother, grandmother, sister and good friend to all.
She is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Leonor (Falcon) Covarrubias.
Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, Raul D. (Chino) Gonzales of Beeville; sons, Ronald D. Gonzales and wife Carmen of Taft, Richard D. Gonzales and wife Mavis of Santa Ana,  Calif. and Raoul D. Gonzales and wife Linda of Beeville; a daughter, Cynthia Gutierrez and husband Sherman Andis of Edinburg; a sister, Charlene Mills, also known as Gloria Covarrubias of Douglas, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Amanda Gonzales, Ryan Gonzales and Raoul “R.J.” Gonzales Jr.
Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Galloway and Sons Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 o’clock that evening. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Christian Center with Pastor Bob Tomlinson and the Rev. Anna Salinas officiating. Interment was to follow at 2 p.m. at San Patricio Memorial Garden in Taft.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Wilkinson
Margarita “Margie” P. Wilkinson, 57, of Odem died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in a Corpus Christi care center, following a short illness.
She was born in Odem. She attended Corpus Christi State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. She was a GED teacher at the Adult Learning Center in Sinton for 15 years.
Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by one daughter, Frances (Jason) Salinas of Corpus Christi; three brothers, Vivian (Lupe) Pizaña Sr., Aristeo (Marcela) Pizaña and Irineo (Aurora) Pizaña, all of Odem; one sister, Guadalupe (Jacinto) Aguirre of Tulsita; her mother, Maria Guadalupe Pizaña of Odem; and one granddaughter, Rebekah Salinas of Corpus Christi.
A rosary was to be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton. Funeral Mass was to be celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Odem. Interment will follow in the San Pedro Cemetery in Odem.
Arrangements were by Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home Inc. in Sinton.

Mrs. Hafström
Anita Hafström, 62, of Havö, Sweden, died in her sleep on Aug. 8, 2006, at the family’s lake house in Furusjö, Sweden.
She was born on Jan. 16, 1944.
She is survived by two daughters, Mari Arnold and husband Carter of Beeville, and Mona Ostlund and husband Anders of Havö, Sweden; six granddaughters, Amanda, Amelia and Alexandra Arnold of Beeville and Linda, Anna and Lisa Ostlund of Sweden; and her husband, Jan-Olaf Hafström.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 21 in Jönköping, Sweden.

Mrs. Rodriguez
Lupe G. Rodriguez, 64, of Houston died on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at her home.
She was born on March 8, 1942, in Beeville to Maria and Daniel Garcia. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Joe Henry and Jesse Garcia.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Eusevio “Chevo” Rodriguez of Houston; two sons, “Chevy” (Jackie) Rodriguez of Sugarland, Roland (Melodie) Rodriguez of Houston; one daughter, Dolores (Ismael) Castillo of Manvel; five brothers, Reyes (Longie) Garcia, Alvino (Amelia) Garcia, Daniel (Jill) Garcia, Eugene (Isabel) Garcia and David (Sheila) Garcia; six sisters, Carmel Fernandez, Ramona (Tony) Montez, Olga (Jesse) Morales, Delores (Johnny) Soza, Mary Ann (Mel) Treviño and Cathy (Arnold) Lopez; aunts and uncles, Connie (Joe) Escalante Sr. of Houston and Gasper (Romona) Garcia of Beeville; five grandchildren, Bianca and Giselle Rodriguez, Patrick Jimenez, Isaac Castillo and Benicio Rodriguez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing was to be held on Friday at 6 p.m. at SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland, with rosary to be recited there at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon today (Saturday) at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Houston with Father Jesus Lizalde officiating. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews, Daniel Paul Fernandez, Rey Michel Garcia, Jesse Morales Jr., Alvin Garcia Jr., Matthew Garcia and David Treviño. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Patrick Jimenez and Isaac Castillo.
Arrangements were by SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland.
