Retzloff
Adela Frieda Retzloff, 97, of Karnes City died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Karnes City with the Rev. Dr. Jon R. Bigsby officiating. Burial followed in the Fashing Cemetery.
She was a resident of Karnes City and a homemaker. She was also involved with the family farm and loved baking.
Mrs. Retzloff was born on July 23, 1905, in Yoakum. She married Otto Retzloff on Nov. 15, 1927, in Karnes City. She lived in Peggy since 1929, before moving to Karnes City in 1996. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and had been confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Fashing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Otto; her father, William Heider; her mother, Mary Emma Neuszer Heider; two sisters, Minnie Hall and Alma Lieke; three brothers, Ed, George and Adolph Heider; and one grandson, Daren Retzloff.
She is survived by two sons, Arlon (Elsie) Retzloff of Whitsett and Carroll (Janet) Retzloff of Peggy; one daughter, Joyce (Clyde) Ethridge of Choate; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bailey
Laura Jean Gilbert Bailey, 46, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002.
She was born on Oct. 22, 1956, in San Diego,  Calif. She married Michael Bailey on April 14, 1989, in Eastland. She resided in Beeville and was a former dispatcher for the Bee County Sheriff’s Department.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Bailey of Beeville; four sons, Richard B. Hamilton of Houston, James D. Hamilton of Missouri, Christopher H. Hamilton of Eastland and KC Scott Hamilton of Beeville; a daughter, Tori R. Bailey of Beeville; and a brother, Bruce Gilbert of Eastland.

Dickenson
Mary Nell Connally Dickenson, 91, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002.
Viewing was held Monday night at 7 o’clock at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Skidmore’s Evergreen Cemetery at 3 p.m. with Brother Lee Bevly of the First Baptist Church officiating.
Pallbearers were Chris Kobila, James Bennett, Jason Dickenson, Matt McWorter, John Cuevas and Ken Boland.
Mrs. Dickenson was born on Dec. 18, 1910, in Moody to Naylor and Minnie (Stevens) Connally. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oran R. Dickenson, her parents and her daughter, Wanda Hartman.
Mrs. Dickenson is survived by her daughter, Patty (John) Hill of Corpus Christi; two sons, Frank Dickenson and Jim (Rita) Dickenson, both of Skidmore; a son-in-law, W.T. Hartman of Victoria; a sister, Doris (Earl) Torrance of Waco; seven grandchildren, Lisa Garrett, James Bennett, Charise Allen, Carrie Kobila, Jason Dickenson, Debbie McWorter and Honey Dickenson; and five great-grandchildren, Stephen Allen, Ryan Kobila, Danill Miller, Alysa and Alyson Bennett.

Ferrell
Memorial services for Dale W. Ferrell, 66, of Eagles Bluff in Bullard, were held Friday, Oct. 25, at Emerald Bay Community Church with Dr. Leonard Molone officiating. He died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002.
He was the husband of Dorchie Hatcher Ferrell, formerly of Beeville, the daughter of the late Archie and Dorothy Hatcher.
Mr. Ferrell was born on Dec. 30, 1935, in Dade County, Fla. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He retired from Jostens, Inc. after 36 years and subsequently started his own business under the name of Scholastic Solutions.
He is survived by his wife, Dorchie Hatcher Ferrell of Eagles Bluff; a son, Jeff Ferrell of Eau Claire, Wis.; his daughters, Melissa (Bryan) Emberts of Sussex, Wis., Stephanie (Louis) Kruger of Midlothian, Sherry Ellenbogen of Austin, and Stacy (Ron) Hallmark of Tyler; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Les Hoover of Fayetteville, Ark.; his grandchildren, Jessica, Justine and Jasmine Ferrell, Talisa, Zachary and Hannah Emberts, Chris and Kimberly Kruger, Heather and Dane Ellenbogen and Hunter Hallmark.
Family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 130577, Tyler, TX 75713.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler

Ory
Inez Elizabeth Hall Ory, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002. Visitation was held Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services took place Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the same location with the Rev. Mack Caffey officiating. Burial followed in Papalote Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Bauman, Hank Bauman, Bruce Sellstrom, Jack Holcombe, Leslie Ory and Rusty Lee Hall.
Mrs. Ory was born on July 5, 1914, in Corpus Christi to Archie Sr. and Cora Lee (Stroman) Hall. She married Leslie F. Ory on Nov. 28, 1939, in Nueces County. She resided in Corpus Christi until moving to Papalote in 1986. She was a homemaker and a member of the Second Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening with her flowers, especially roses.
Mrs. Ory was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Aug. 3, 1992; a grandson, Gregg Sellstrom; and two brothers, Archie Hall Jr. and Ralph Hall.
She is survived by her daughter, Frances Sellstrom and husband Gary of Papalote; a son, Wallace Ory of Montana; and two grandsons, Timothy Sellstrom of Papalote and Leslie Ory of Wyoming.

Helland
James H. “Jim” Helland, 80, formerly of Beeville, died in San Antonio on Dec. 25, 2002, after a battle with cancer. Helland was an oilman, World War II veteran, politician, avid golfer, skier and entrepreneur.
After graduating from high school in San Antonio in 1939, he received a degree in geology from the University of  Texas at Austin. He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army (1943-46), with combat at Okinawa and Saipan and was in the Occupation force in Japan.
After he married his wife, Patty Ford, they moved to Beeville in 1950 where he started his own independent oil and gas exploration business. In 1957, he moved his family back to San Antonio where he lived until his death. He became active there in the Republican Party and helped initiate the infant party from primaries in garages to the eventual dominance of state politics.
In 1964, he became the first Republican elected as a Bexar County commissioner since Reconstruction. He also belonged to and held offices in many organizations there and labored successfully all his life as an independent oilman.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ford Helland; his children, grandchildren, sister, brother, nieces and nephews.
Private burial services were held Tuesday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Arrangements were with Porter Loring Mortuaries in San Antonio.

Carman
Robert Lee Carman, 66, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will take place today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at the same location. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Carman was born on Sept. 18, 1936, in Paintersville, Ohio, to Wayne and Mary (Pendell) Carman. He graduated from high school in Bowersville, Ohio, in 1954. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1978, completing three missions in Vietnam. He spent the last 25 years of his life in Beeville and George West.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Ronald Wayne Carman, and former wife Roberta (Ross) Carman.
Survivors include his sons, Robert Carman and wife Sonja of George West and Douglas Carman and Kim of Centersville, Ohio; a daughter, Tammy Jo Carman of Hillsboro, Ohio; five grandchildren, Derrick, Kindess, Joe, Keri and Jake; his mother-in-law, Eloise Ferguson of Odem; a brother, Jerry Carman and wife Mickie of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Wanda Carman Long of Xenia, Ohio; and a stepson, Len Kuykendall of Harahan, La.

Jalufka
Lucian Jalufka, 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003.
Visitation was held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were to take place Friday at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Traylor officiating. Burial was to follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Marcos Torres, Lindsey Chavez, Tim Rider, Joseph Palfreyman, Bobby Hester and Stephanie Phipps. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Huckle, Buckshot Boenig, Carroll  Johnson and John Richardson.
Mr. Jalufka was born on April 22, 1938, in Karnes County to D.J. and Jarmila (Jakubik) Jalufka. He worked for 17 years for various schools as a band director, he was a driver’s education teacher for 13 years and also served as a branch manager for Hochheim Prairie Insurance for 10 years. He also worked for the Victoria Advocate for five years. At the time of his death, he was employed as a correctional officer at the  Texas Department of Criminal Justice McConnell Unit. He was a member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Lynnette Jalufka of Canyon; his former wife, Bette Jalufka of Canyon; a brother, Darrell Jalufka of San Antonio; and his fiancee, Connie Henry of Beeville.

Bremer
Ida “Edith” Herzog Bremer, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel, with Ted Ryan officiating. Special music will include “Amazing Grace,” “Goin’ Home,” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee.” Burial will follow in Skidmore’s Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Carl Cheesman III, Gerald Henry Herzog, Charles Herzog, Ted Ryan, Gary Bohac and Lloyd Bohac. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Bohac.
Mrs. Bremer was born on Nov. 18, 1915, in Kyle to Robert Gus and Janie (Ewald) Herzog. She resided in Skidmore and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Antoinette Gangwer of Seguin and Kimbley Bremer of Skidmore; a grandson, Carl Cheesman III of Skidmore; and four sisters, Flora Lee Marshall of Houston, Helen Doubrava of Clareville, Dorothy Rupert of Philadelphia, Pa., and Lucille Custer of Mathis.

Briones
Felipe Briones, 91, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Hillside Nursing Home.
Visitation was held Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. A prayer service was held Friday night at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral services will take place today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at Monte Del Olivar Christian Church with the Rev. Jesse De La Garza officiating. Burial will follow in Berclair Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jay Brionez, Edward Brionez, J.D. Gonzales, Felix Lopez Jr., Marcos Brionez, Ismael Brionez Jr., Richie Sanchez and Jeremy Sanchez.
Mr. Briones was born in Kenedy on May 8, 1912, to Crispin and Rita (Garcia) Brionez. He married Maria Garcia in 1979 in Beeville. He was a retired custodian for the Beeville Independent School District and a member of Monte Del Olivar Christian Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Candido Brionez.
Survivors include his wife, Maria G. Briones of Beeville; four sons, Israel Brionez and wife Mary of Beeville, Dr. Rev. Ismael R. Brionez and wife Ruth of Corpus Christi, Isaac Brionez and wife Katherine of Beeville and Daniel Brionez and wife Dalia of Humble; five daughters, Irene B. Gonzales and husband Isabel of Beeville, Martha Alderete and husband Daniel of Taylor, Soila Gonzales of Beeville, Eloisa Dominguez and husband Ruben and Gloria Morelos, all of Farmersville; a sister, Dolores B. Naranjo of Corpus Christi; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
