Hyde
Evelyn Ivy Hyde, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Hillside Nursing Home.
Visitation was held Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were held Friday at 10 a.m. at the same location, with the Rev. Greg Traylor officiating. Burial took place Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the Woodmen of the World Cemetery in Rosenberg.
Mrs. Hyde was born on Aug. 17, 1918, in Ellinger to Charles L. and Vlasta (Syptak) Kotrla. She married Chester D. Hyde in 1943 in Houston. She resided in Houston for most of her life before moving to Beeville. She was a retired food demonstrator and a member of Brethren Church.
Survivors include her sons, Chester Douglas Hyde Jr. of Spring and Charles Edward Hyde and wife Crystal of Beeville; and four grandchildren, Trey, Nathan, Matthew and Catherine Hyde.

Estrada
Lydia De Leon Estrada, 70, died in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003.
Rosary was recited Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Special music was provided by the St. James Choir. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Jerome Villarreal, Dion Tanguma, Luz O. Garza, Benjamin O. Garza, Wesley Hinton and Jaime Villarreal.
Mrs. Estrada was born in Yorktown on Dec. 20, 1933, to Antonio and Ysabel (Guzman) De Leon. She had resided in Beeville most of her life. She was a housekeeper and a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Hortencia Guzman, and three brothers, Raul and Valentin De Leon and Gilberto Rosales.
Survivors include her husband, Ernesto Estrada of Beeville; two daughters, Cynthia Hernandez of Bay City and Nora Tanguma of Beeville; six sons, Manuel, Edolio, David and Jaime Villarreal, all of Beeville, Eloy Estrada of Panama City, Fla., and Javier Estrada of  Pennsylvania; four sisters, Eva De Leon of Grand Rapids, Mich., Elia De Leon Tafoya of Lubbock and Adela Hernandez and Geneva Torres, both of Lexington, Ky.; five brothers, Ricardo, Reynaldo and Roman De Leon, all of Lubbock, Ruben De Leon of Fort Worth and Tony De Leon of Lexington, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Garza
Alfredo “Papi” Garza, 78, died at his residence in Beeville on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003.
Rosary was recited Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Special music was provided by the St. James Choir. Burial with full military honors followed at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Joe A. Hernandez, Faustino Bernal, Ray Martinez, Tony Flores, David Benavidez, Martin Garza and Mike Cano.
Mr. Garza was born in Beeville on April 12, 1925, to Maximo and Rosario (Basaldu) Garza. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He resided in Beeville and was a retired businessman and the owner of Papi’s Place.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Santos “Tita” Estrada Garza, who died Oct. 24, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his five sisters, Jovita Vidal, Beatrice Gamez, Minerva Hernandez, Rosa Rodriguez and Guadalupe Treviño, and a grandson, Gary Montez.
Survivors include daughter, Genoveva (Faustino Bernal Jr.) Hernandez of Beeville and Ray (Nelda Elizalde) Garza of Corpus Christi; a brother, Judge David B. (Carmela) Garza of Beeville; two sisters, Raquel (Ysidro) Ramon of Beeville and Hortencia Fernandez of Victoria; eight grandchildren, Maggie Martinez, JoAnn Benavidez, James and Joseph Garza and Joe Anthony Hernandez, all of Beeville, June Flores of Harlingen, Velma Hernandez of Houston and Angela Garza of Pharr; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Syester
Brian James Syester, 32, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in  Oklahoma City, Okla.
Visitation was held Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the same location. Burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Freddie Martinez, Rowland and Jonnie Arzola, Ray Webb, Kevin and Jeffrey Syester, Curtis Seal and Tim Brown.
Mr. Syester was born in Beeville on Aug. 22, 1971, to Clyde and Amelia (Martinez) Syester. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He resided in  Oklahoma City, Okla., but was a former Beeville resident. He was a heavy equipment driver who enjoyed fishing and computers.
Survivors include his parents, Clyde “Bud” and Amelia Syester of  Pennsylvania; two brothers, Kevin Syester and wife Susan of Georgia and Jeffery Syester of  Oklahoma City, Okla.; two nieces, Samantha and Haley Syester of Georgia; two nephews, Shay and Wesley Syester of  Oklahoma City, Okla.; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Quintero
Nona Marie Quintero, 15, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, in San Marcos.
Visitation was held Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at the same location. Burial followed in Clareville’s San Pedro Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Staggarlee Ortiz, Damian Canales, Crystal Benavidez, Austin Maldonado, Michael Casares and Joseph Casares.
Miss Quintero was born in Torrance,  Calif., on Nov. 29, 1988, to Robert and Gloria (Casares) Quintero. She resided in San Marcos and was a student at San Marcos High School. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in San Marcos. She was active in school activities and studied French and art. She enjoyed swimming, tap dancing, karate and tubing.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Quintero.
Survivors include her son, Matthew Robert Quintero of Beeville; her mother, Gloria Quintero, her sister, Heather Quintero, both of San Marcos; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Zoller
Gladys R. Zoller, 85, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Summit Hospital in Baton Rouge, La.
She was a native of George West and a former Beeville resident.
Visitation was held Friday at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs, La., from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held at the same location on Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, La.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto J. Zoller Sr.; her parents, Michael Perry and Anna Mae Wharton; her sons, Otto J. Zoller Jr. and Robert Perry Zoller; her sister, Mary Lou Everett; and her brother, Perry Wharton.
Arrangements were handled through Seale Funeral Service, Inc., Denham Springs, La.
Survivors include her sons, Russell Zoller of Livingston, La., and Ray Zoller of Evergreen,  Colo.; a sister, Marjinel  Whitenton of Beeville; five grandchildren, Kami Mercado and Kristen, Kris, O.J. III and Todd Zoller; and two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Joshua.

Bernal
Ester Lydia Bernal, 80, of George West died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, in Corpus Christi.
Mrs. Bernal was born in Oakville on July 13, 1923, to Tomas and Bartola (Martinez) Balderas. She married Charley Isaias Bernal in George West in 1947. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.
Mrs. Bernal was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Bernal, on July 16, 1988; her parents; a son, Armando Esteban Bernal; and a daughter, Rita Landin.
Survivors include three daughters, Esther Soliz of Freer, Ruby Sanchez of Corpus Christi and Julie Smithwick of Alice; three sons, Charley Bernal Jr. of Pratville, Ala., Arnold Bernal of Victoria and Jerry Bernal of Beeville; two sisters, Dominga Gonzales of George West and Beatrice Lopez of Lamesa; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Galloway and Sons chapel in George West. A graveside service was held at the George West Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating.

Kent
Mary Jim Kent, 78, of Paris died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in Paris Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Kent was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was born on Jan. 11, 1926, to Earl and Zona (Stewart) Chambers. She was a member of the Episcopal church. She married William Robert Kent in 1942.
Survivors include her children, Penny Davis of Paris, Gary Kent of Beeville and Ed Kent of Shay, Okla.; five grandchildren, Tony Davis of Austin, Sydney and Hayley Davis, both of College Station, Monica Garcia and husband Carlos of Beeville and Mark  Washington of Corpus Christi; two great-grandchildren, Chad and Cross Garcia of Beeville; and a sister, Jayne Robinson of Dallas, Ga.
Arrangements were handled through Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris.

Reagan
Dr. James Lawrence Reagan, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Funeral services took place today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mark Spence officiating.
Pallbearers were Sundown Hunter, Dr. Thomas S. Winston, Joel R. Huehn, Brad J. Mock, John S. Reagan, William W. Reagan, John Michael Reagan and Charles R. Reagan. Honorary pallbearers were Manuel Farias, Dr. John Hester, Dr. Orville Schroeder, Dr. Grady C. Hogue Jr., Dr. Joe Larakers, Woody May, Sid Malone, John Nicholson, Bob Schneider, Don Vickery and Robert Gayle.
Dr. Reagan was born in Beeville on July 19, 1923, to Charles H. and Susan Elizabeth (Brown) Reagan. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1947, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He continued his education at the University of  Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, graduating in 1952. There he was a member of Phi Beta Phi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy’s Seabees during World War II.
He married Mary Gloria Christakos on Sept. 14, 1946, in Beeville. He was an elder at First Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Reagan had a long-established medical practice in Beeville, retiring in 1999. In addition, he was the Bee County health doctor for 10 years. He belonged to the  Texas Medical Association, the  Texas Tuberculosis Association and was a member of the Beeville Rotary Club for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, photography and wood carving.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Gloria Reagan of Beeville; three daughters, Stephany and husband Richard Compton of Denton, Gloria and husband Tom Winston of Corpus Christi and Robbin Mitchell of Redway,  Calif.; two sons, John C. and Lawrence Tom Reagan, both of Beeville; two grandchildren, Dr. Thomas S. Winston of Amarillo and Meredith Tibbets of Auburn,  Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Echo and Zoe Winston and Avery Lawrence Staflien.

Kennard
Oscar Kent Kennard, 69, died Monday, April 19, 2004, in Seattle, Wash.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Traylor officiating.
Mr. Kennard was born in Wilson on Sept. 30, 1934, to James P. and Eula L. (Gee) Kennard. He served in the U.S. Navy. He resided in Seattle and was an automotive salesman. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his daughters, Dora Lee Kennard (Pinner) of Round Rock and Deborah and Pam Kennard, both of Tacoma, Wash.; three sons, Dan Kennard of Puyallup, Wash., and Jody Kennard and Marshall B. Music, both of Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Ann Jacobs of San Jose,  Calif.; a brother, Bobby Joe Kennard of Spruce Pine, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
