Flores
Roberto Flores, 65, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary was recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Julian Zamudio, Ruben Baltazar, David Lopez, Antonio Montez, George Cano, Pete Salas, Adan Martinez and Gilbert Arguijo.
Mr. Flores was born on May 12, 1938, to Epifanio and Julia (Gonzales) Flores in Tuleta. He married Emiliana Rodriguez in Beeville in 1959. He was a retired route person for a distributing company and a member of Our Lady of Victory.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Santos Flores, a sister, Elida Flores Cuellar, and a stepdaughter, Rachel Montez.
Survivors include his wife, Emiliana Rodriguez Flores of Beeville; three sons, Roberto Flores Jr. and wife Ida of George West, Ruben Flores of Beeville and Ramon Flores and wife Debbie of Clareville; two daughters, Rebecca Martinez and husband Ramon of Mineral and Rita Flores of Beeville; four stepdaughters, Micaela Martinez and husband Roman, Theresa Garcia, Mary Jane Villarreal and Dolores Puga and husband Dionicio of Beeville; one stepson, Gil Montez and wife Neida of Houston; his mother, Julia Flores of Beeville; a brother, Rey Flores of Beeville; two sisters, Herlinda Treviño and husband Aurelio and Elizabeth Franco and husband Eddie, both of Beeville; 12 grandchildren; 24 step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

Hooper
Eleanor Anne Graham Hooper, 77, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at the Shenandoah Health Care Center in Charlestown, W.Va.
She was born on April 5, 1926, in Bath County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Roy C. and Leila Burns Graham. Her husband, Clifford S. Hooper, died July 30, 1995. Before retiring she worked at the Bee County auditor’s office in Beeville. She graduated from Westminster High School in 1943 and attended Locust Valley Bible Church in Middletown, Md.
Survivors include her son, Gary C. and Shelby Hooper of  Jefferson, Md.; daughters, Diana Susan and Bob Eckenrode of Ocean City, Md., Dale and Jose Ramon of Beeville, and Debra and David Monroe of Brunswick; three brothers, Roger Graham of Purcellville, Va., Bruce Graham of Pomfret, Md., and Robert Graham of Ninde, Va.; two sisters, Helen Walsh of Berlin, Md., and Charlotte Frantz of Kingsville, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church in New Windsor, Md., with the Rev. Curvin Stambaugh, pastor of Locust Valley Bible Church, officiating. Interment followed in the St. James Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled through Fletcher Funeral Home, Westminster, Md.

Nowak
Joyce C. Nowak, 62, of New Braunfels died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in her residence after a long illness.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1941, in South Bend, Ind., to Andrew and Elizabeth Vargyas who survive her. On Nov. 3, 1962, she married John C. Nowak in South Bend, Ind., at St. Steven Catholic Church.
In 1958, she graduated from St. Mary Academy and in 1962, she graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing. In 2000, she retired from the  Texas Department of Health Region 8.
She is survived by her husband and children, Anthony and Christopher Nowak, Susan Lopez and Paula Walker; eight grandchildren, Avery and Andrew Nowak, Logan and Leahm Nowak, Benard and Justin Lopez and Tommy and Jushua Walker.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Zoeller Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated Sunday at 2 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels.
Arrangements were handled through Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels.

Pawlik
George Frank Pawlik, 68, of George West died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel in George West. Family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at the same location, with Father Peter Gajda and Don  Jones officiating. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dan, Sam and Andrew Barbaro, James Stanley Pawlik, Julian Perales and Wesley Jennings.
Mr. Pawlik was born on Feb. 10, 1935, in George West to Stanley and Justina (Brysch) Pawlik. He married Mary Evelyn Smith on Dec. 8, 1962, in George West. He resided in George West and was retired from the  Texas Department of Transportation after 29 years of service. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Pawlik of George West; a daughter, Catherine Ann Barbaro and husband Daniel E. of Portland; two grandchildren, Sam and Andrew Barbaro; two brothers, Leonard and wife Betty and Mitchell and wife Debby Pawlik, all of George West; three sisters, Aggie and husband Henry Lyssy of San Antonio, Grace McCann of Breckenridge and Gladys Stearns of New Braunfels; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Castleberry
George Curtis Castleberry, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004.
Burial was held at the George West Cemetery on Wednesday.
Mr. Castleberry was born in Bastrop on May 20, 1932, to Joseph Weldon and Drucie Elizabeth (Pendleton) Castleberry. He resided in Beeville and was a former George West resident. He worked many odd jobs throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Drucie Castleberry, and a brother, Ray Castleberry.
Survivors include his brother, Donald Castleberry of Tennessee Colony; a sister, Evelyn Cook of San Marcos; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Downing
Barbara Davis Downing, 44, of Corpus Christi died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004.
She was born in Beeville on Nov. 14, 1959, to Ernest and Rose Karcher Davis. She was a pediatrics nurse.
Survivors include her husband, David L. Downing; her daughters, Danielle and Allison Downing; her son, Tyler Downing, all of Corpus Christi; her parents, Ernest and Rose Davis of Beeville; her sister, Teresa (Ernest) Szuminski of San Antonio; her in-laws, Margaret and Dean Castle of Stanford, Ky.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation began at noon on Wednesday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Sawyer-George Funeral Home chapel in Corpus Christi. Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church with the Rev. Morgan Rowsome, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Arrangements were handled through Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.

Muñoz
Analisa Marie Muñoz, infant daughter of Mario Anthony and Elissa Muñoz of Beeville, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in Victoria.
Survivors include her paternal grandparents, Mario and Leticia Muñoz, paternal great-grandparents, Serafin and Olga Quiroga and Ramon and Rosa Muñoz, all of Beeville; maternal grandparents, Teresa Gonzales of Houston and Frankie Hysquierdo of Victoria; maternal great-grandparents, Lucy Garza of Karnes City, Eduardo Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Frank and Lilie Hysquierdo of Victoria; and a paternal great-great-grandmother, Maria Martinez of Beeville.
Private services were held.

Salazar
Felipe G. Salazar, 79, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at his residence.
Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. and a funeral service Monday at 10 a.m., both at Angelus Funeral Home. The Rev. Rey Salazar and Rey Salazar Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow at San Pedro Cemetery in Clareville.
Pallbearers will be Felipe Salazar IV, Rey Salazar Jr., Johnny Lee Salazar, Henry Jhon Dominguez, Joshua Flores, Hector Salazar Jr., Artie Dominguez Jr. and Gabriel Salazar.
Mr. Salazar was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Rio Grande City to Felipe and Teodora (Garza) Salazar. He married Victoria Castillo and they resided in Beeville. He was a retired railroad worker.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria Castillo Salazar of Beeville; six sons, Felipe C. Salazar Jr., Rey Salazar and Roy Salazar, all of Mission, Johnny Joe Salazar of Beeville, Jamie Salazar of Detroit, Mich., and Hector Salazar of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Maria Victoria Flores and Rosalinda Dominguez, both of Beeville; one sister, Theresa Salazar of Beeville; one brother, Aristeo Salazar of Detroit, Mich.; a stepmother, Juanita Salazar of Beeville; 44 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Bateman
Former Pettus resident Mildred Fay  Johnson Bateman, 84, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, in New Iberia, La.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lydia (La.) United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bobby Cormier will conduct the service. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until service time. After services, she will be interred in the Mason Cemetery in Arp,  Texas, beside her husband.
Mrs. Bateman was born in Hamilton County,  Texas, on Aug. 27, 1919. When she was 7 months old, her father passed away from the flu while farming in Hamilton County. At the age of 11, she moved to Montana with her mother, stepfather John Newman, two older brothers and two stepsisters. After graduation from high school, she moved back to  Texas where she was married in Carthage, to Kermit Bateman of Arp. They moved to Pettus in 1948, where Kermit was the district superintendent of Toronto Pipe Line Co. In 1968 they moved to Corpus Christi, where Kermit was employed by Cardinal Petroleum Co., until his death in 1971. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Luling to be near two of her sons. After four years in Luling, she moved to New Iberia, La., to be close to her daughter. Mrs. Bateman was a member of the Lydia United Methodist Church in Lydia, La.
Survivors include her children, Robert W. Bateman and wife Jenny of Houma, La., James H. Bateman and wife Elfreda of Hesperus,  Colo., Richard L. Bateman and wife Peggy of Harper, Barry L. Bateman and wife Linda of Boerne, and Lynda G. Bateman Davies and husband Brad of New Iberia, La.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and four brothers, the twins Bob Newman of Bozeman, Mt., Bert Newman of Lewistown, Mt., Tom Newman of Greybull, Wyo., and Glen Newman of Missoula, Mt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kermit Bateman; parents, Andrew  Jackson  Johnson and Mamie Verr Terral Johnson; three brothers, A.J. Johnson, Terrell  Johnson and Jimmy Newman; and granddaughter, Debra Ann Bateman Hutchinson.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, La. 70503 or your local hospice, or to the  Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home, Attn: Jeff Camp, 901 S. Vienna, POB 929, Ruston, La. 71273-0929.
Arrangements were handled through Evangeline Funeral Homes, New Iberia, La.

Chimene
Frank M. Chimene, 69, died Monday, April 12, 2004.
A memorial service will be held in the near future in Houston.
Mr. Chimene was born in Houston on Feb. 27, 1935. He was married to Lanelle Perkins Chimene and resided in Beeville. He was a pipefitter for refineries.
Survivors include his wife, Lanelle Perkins Chimene; five daughters; two sons; two stepsons; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
