Clara Mabery

Clara Mabery, age 96, passed away Thursday evening, October 3, 2002 at Pleasant Manor Living Center. She was born in Parker County on March 1, 1906. She was a longtime resident of Breckenridge and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Breckenridge.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Box and her husband, Boyd of Waxahachie and Carolyn Davidson and her husband, Cotton of Gatesville; grandchildren, David Cuaz, Mike Cuaz, Ann Moore, Kendall Box, Laura Wright, Tommy Davidson, Kelly Wood, Tracy Sage, Ty Davidson and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, David Francis McCleskey, mother, Callie Ann Williams McCleskey, husband, Ned Mabery, sons, Billy Gene Mabery and Nedward Wayne Mabery.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2002 at the Breckenridge City Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice of Waxahachie or Gideons International.

Arrangements were under the direction of Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home.

Lila D. McDonald

Lila D. McDonald, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at a Temple Hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rex Tilly officiating.
Burial followed at Copperas Cove Cemetery.
Mrs. McDonald was born March 2, 1921 in the Antelope Community of Coryell County, the daughter of the late Allen and Winnie Gannaway. She graduated from Gatesville High School and married Samuel Gaddy McDonald on Feb. 6, 1940. She was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church. She retired from Medical Plastics Laboratory after 34 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1948.
Survivors include a son, Samuel Gaddy McDonald; two daughters, Joann Jolly and Cheryel Pruitt; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Patrick Jolly, Allen McDonald, Clint Pruitt, Travis Pruitt, Larry Pruitt and Richard Jolly.

Shiloh Nolte

Shiloh Nolte, 2-year-old daughter of Jason and Mary Nolte of Gatesville, died Oct. 23, 2002 in an Austin hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Survivors include her parents, Jason and Mary Nolte of Gatesville; two sisters, Ariel and Beth-Phage Nolte; one brother, Josiah John Nolte; and grandparents, Russell and Donna Crosby of Gatesville, Richard and Terri Nolte of Ft. Sumner, NM, and Cammie Gesick of Gatesville.

Mr. James Haddox “Jim” Erwin

Mr. James H. “Jim” Erwin, age 94, of Gatesville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 in a local nursing home.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday at Scott’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. Burial with Masonic rites was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Erwin was born July 21, 1908, in Teague, TX. He was the son of the late Ed and Alice Corbella Erwin. He was reared and attended school in San Angelo, TX. Mr. Erwin worked on a ranch in west  Texas for George Blackstone in the Davis Mountains area. He had also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in his early years. Later, he moved to San Angelo where he managed the Southland Ice Co. He joined the San Angelo police force as a motorcycle officer and advanced to be chief of police. He married the former Miss Oves Lee Elliott on March 4, 1928, in San Angelo, TX, where they made their home. At the onset of WWII, he was called to Grand Prairie, TX, where he served with Plant Protection for North American Aviation. He loved flying and in 1957, he earned a commercial pilot’s rating. After the war, they moved to Hamilton, TX, where he went back to ranching and also served as a deputy sheriff. In December 1946, they moved to Gatesville and purchased the Hollingsworth Grain Elevator, and converted it to a feed mill, featuring “Big Jim Feed.” He later opened a grain storage facility in Gatesville, Temple and Moody. In 1963, he opened the Erwin Feed Lots in Ft. Gates. In the early ‘70’s, the feed mill was sold to Farmland Industries and he began a farming operation in the Bosqueville area.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of Gatesville Masonic Lodge, Karem Shrine and was a Scottish Rite Mason. He served many years on the board of trustees for the GISD. Jim enjoyed playing dominos, golfing and fishing and was an accomplished organist. His wife preceded him in death on February 16, 1990. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Milton Erwin; and three sisters, Edna Ladell, Mildred Walters and Margarett Johnston.

He is survived by one son, James E. (Jamie) and wife Corinne Erwin of Gatesville; brother, John and wife Ruth of Bellaire, TX; sister, Mary King of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Randy Erwin, Rob Erwin and Cindi McDonald, all of Gatesville; and seven great-grandchildren, Jamie, Raechel, Christopher, Nici, Kayce, Megan and Whittlei.
Pallbearers were Rob Erwin, Randy Erwin, Allen McDonald, Jamie Erwin, Christopher Erwin and Nolon Marshall.
The family requests that memorials be given to a favorite charity.

David Davila III

David Davila III, infant son of Stacy Rockey and David Davila Jr., died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 in a Temple hospital.
The funeral Mass was held Oct. 12 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Nesrsta officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
He was born July 14, 2002, in Temple. He lived in Troy with his parents and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his parents, Stacy Rockey and David Davila Jr., of Troy; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Herendon of Troy, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Garza of Troy, Mr. and Mrs. David Davila Sr., of Temple and Mr. and Mrs. John Rockey of San Antonio; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Pancake of Gatesville, Mrs. Francisca Salinas of Troy, Mrs. Martina Davila of Temple and Mrs. Robert H. Rockey of Pittsburgh, PA; and great-great-grandparents, Mrs. C. E. Pancake of Gatesville, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Beechly of Gatesville.

Lena Richards

Lena Richards, 93, of Gatesville died Nov. 10, 2002 in Gatesville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Live Oak Baptist Church with Dr. Levi Price and the Rev. Larry Key officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Richards was born Oct. 10, 1909, in Marble Falls, the daughter of the late Rev. Henry and Gracie Wells Summers. She was reared and graduated from high school in Gatesville. She married Otis Robert Richards on March 27, 1934, in Gatesville and they continued to make their home in Gatesville all their married lives. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1973. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ione Mustin, Lillie Mae Castro, Myrtle Murray and Minnie Wells Gault; and a brother, Henry Summers. After her husband’s death, she worked in the dietary department at Coryell Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church and the Dorcus Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughter, Gracie Ann Ford of Gatesville; four sisters, Leola Hodge of Gatesville, Jane Ariola of Waco, Millie Gore of Harker Heights and Viola Schultz of Lafayette, LA; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bobby Lowrey, Billy Bob Ford, Vennis Mensch, Billy Landua, Mike Smith and Bill Truss. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews.
The family requests memorials be made to the nursery or the R.A.’s at Live Oak Baptist Church.

Mrs. Joy Hamilton Perryman

Mrs. Joy Hamilton Perryman, age 72, of Gatesville, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at her residence.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, November 15, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Nance and the Rev. James Marrs officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Perryman was born on September 4, 1930, in Temple,  Texas, to the late James E. and Tinne LouAnne Ellis West. She was raised in Oglesby,  Texas. She married Wilton J.D. Hamilton on April 21, 1946. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1981. She married Ralph Perryman on February 2, 1987. She worked for Hill Country Transit, driving a bus and doing office work. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Perryman; sons, Herman Wayne Hamilton and wife Cindy; daughters, Tana Kay Nance and husband Steve, and Karen Lynn McCutcheon and husband Bill; stepson, Darrell Perryman; stepdaughter, Vicki Wright and husband Marty; brothers, James West, Billy Dawson and Larkin West; sister, Ava Fay Rodgers; grandchildren; Kenda Botkin Watley, Brenton Lee Davis, Jana Davis, Dawn Holden, Blair Wright, Maggie Wright and Austin McCutcheon; and great-grandchildren, Samantha Watley, Landon Holden and Lane Holden.

Floyd E. Hodges Sr.

Floyd E. Hodges Sr., 72, of Cleburne died Nov. 9, 2002 in Fort Worth.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
Mr. Hodges was born June 22, 1930, in Jonesboro to the late J.R. Hodges and Flora Ferguson Hodges. He married Lorene Roberts on Aug. 15, 1953, in Pascagoula, LA. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served during the Korean Conflict and  Vietnam War. He retired as a staff sergeant. After retiring from the Marines, he worked at the Comanche Peak Power Plant for 10 years. He was a former vice president of the Cleburne Bass Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Hodges.
Survivors include three sons, James R. Hodges of Cleburne, David Hodges of Granbury and Floyd Hodges Jr. of Cleburne; two daughters, Mary Jo Maurer of Albuquerque, NM, and Peggy Sue Laird of Cleburne; brother, John Hodges of Nebraska; sisters, Vera Mae Green of Dallas, Florene  White of Temple and Francis Ratliff of Whitney; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Laura Guthrie

Laura Elizabeth Guthrie, 7, of Texarkana, Ark., died Nov. 9, 2002 at her residence.
Memorial services were held Tuesday at Hickory Street Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Creek and the Rev. Joe Strebeck officiating.
She was born Dec. 6, 1994, in Marshall, the daughter of Ken and Ann Bell Guthrie. She had lived most of her life in Texarkana. She was a member of Hickory Street Baptist Church, where she was a Spark in the AWANA Club; a member of the Tornado soccer team; a second grade student at Vera Kilpatrick Elementary School; and a second year piano student.
Survivors include her parents, Ken and Ann Bell Guthrie of Texarkana, AR; two sisters, Alicia Guthrie and Kayla Guthrie, both of Texarkana, AR; grandparents, Charles and Marilyn Bell of Texarkana, AR, Elaine Guthrie of Gatesville, and Robert and Alice Guthrie of Gatesville; and great-grandmother, Lois Bell of Texarkana, AR.

Fern Marie Trammell

Fern Marie Trammell, 80, of Waco died Nov. 14, 2002 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Gateway Baptist Church in Gatesville with Brother Royce Cockrell officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Trammell was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Comanche County, OK, the daughter of the late Charley Chester and Myrtie Skinner Bowling. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1939. She was a telephone operator in Lawton, OK, and New Boston, and later worked as a bookkeeper in several businesses in the Lawton, OK, area. On April 5, 1958, she married Lester Trammell in Wichita Falls, and they made their home in the Gatesville area, where she worked for Coryell Memorial Hospital and later for MHMR. After her retirement, she did volunteer work as a crime victims’ advocate. She was a member of the Gateway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister and a granddaughter.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Trammell of Waco; a son, Craig Allan Scott of Nelson, MO; daughters, K’Ola Hamilton of Waco and Gerre Brenda Cathey of Austin; stepdaughter, Ann Bugh of El Dorado, Ark.; sisters, Vera Strange and Doris Jane Dodson, both of Elgin, OK; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be given to any Southern Baptist Church for World Hungry Relief.
