Baltazar
David Baltazar, 74, of Corpus Christi died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at his residence.
He was a former Beeville resident. He moved his family to Corpus Christi in 1954. He was married for 54 years to his wife, Dora Baltazar.
He was the top insurance sales agent for 19 years for the Western Southern Life Insurance Co. He later worked at Corpus Christi Army Depot as an aviation transmission mechanic for 20 years until his retirement.
He was a boxing promoter and manager and owner of the Baltazar Boxing Stable. He traveled all around the world with his boxing. He even appeared on ABC’s “Wide World of Sports.”
Mr. Baltazar served in the U.S. Air Force. He helped the community for more than 30 years. He played semi-professional baseball for the Blue Jays, Estrada Motor Co. and Corpus Christi Seals. He loved sports and music and taught himself to play the trumpet. He loved to dance, play golf, cook on Sunday for his family, make up his own recipes and spend time outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Dora; five daughters, Salia Martinez (Joe Molina), Tina Ortiz (B.J.) and Diane Garcia (Pete Jr.) of Corpus Christi, Doris Ortega (Elias) of San Antonio and Charlotte Suarez (Alex) of Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, David Baltazar Jr. of Corpus Christi; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday with a rosary recited that evening at Memorial Funeral Home’s Holly Chapel.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment followed at Rose Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers were David Baltazar III, Jason Ortiz, Christopher, Michael and Robert Lee Ortega, T.J. Martinez, Patrick Cisneros Jr., Pete Garcia III and Alex Suarez Jr.

Coffeen
Rosa Lydia Fernandez Coffeen, 62, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002.
Rosary will be recited tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers will be Daniel Paul Fernandez, Paul J. Fernandez, Rocky Tapia, Ray Anthony Ramirez, Gilbert Moreno and John Contreras. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy and Juan Galvan, Joe Cano Jr., Lucio Del Toro and Placido Garcia Jr.
Mrs. Coffeen was born on Aug. 4, 1939, in Benavides to Pablo and Enriqueta (Saenz) Fernandez. She was married to Fernando Coffeen Sr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Baldemar S. Fernandez.
She was employed as a teacher’s aide at Tiny Tots Day Care Center and was a Catholic.
Mrs. Coffeen is survived by two daughters, Lillian (Glen) Urqhart of Dallas and Judith (Emilio) Gonzales of Beeville; four sons, Fernando David (Barbara), Gerald William, Thomas Henry and Gary William (Rosa) Coffeen, all of Beeville; one sister, Ana Maria (Ray) Ramirez of Round Rock; two brothers, Pablo (Elena) Fernandez of Pasadena and Mike (Rafaela) Fernandez of Beeville; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Garza
Maria Garza, 95, died Thursday, July 4, 2002.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 3:30 p.m. with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Special music was provided by Lupita Amador.
Burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 1. Pallbearers were Joe Garza, Robert Garza, Pablo Garcia, Placido Garcia Jr., Gregory Gutierrez and Adam Perez Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Jason L. Gutierrez, Gerald Perez, Christopher and Randy Flores, Pablo Jr. and Aaron Garcia, Joey Arciba, Jaime Lopez Jr., Ernie Garza, John Gabriel and Jody Orozco, David Anthony and Michael Anthony Barrientes, Taylor Quimby, Brandon J. Fuentes and Orlando and Joshua Garza.
Mrs. Garza was born on Nov. 26, 1906, in Goliad to Guadalupe and Guadalupe (Cano) DeLuna. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by a great-great-grandson, Marcus Arciba, and one daughter-in-law, Nicanora Garza.
Mrs. Garza is survived by three daughters, Isabel (Placido) Garcia, Martha Gutierrez and Rosa Linda (Adan) Perez, all of Beeville; one son, Ernesto Garza of Beeville; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Knight
Bee County rancher Leland Francis Knight died in his sleep Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his ranch in Mineral.
Mr. Knight was born on Aug. 17, 1920, to Ernest Lucien and Alma (Goree) Knight, at Buckholts in Milam County.
He received the American Farmer Award in 1937. He served in the U.S. Air Force as gunnery instructor beginning in 1941 and was honorably discharged as staff sergeant in 1946. He ranched continuously since that time in Bee and other counties. He raised registered Angus cattle for more than 43 years beginning in 1959, purchasing good black cattle wherever they were found across the Midwest. He served as past director of the Texas Angus Association.
He was also the undisputed “mayor of Mineral” at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Kathleen Knight Messimer; brother, J.G. Knight; and two nephews, Steve Messimer and Tom Knight.
He is survived by two nieces, Nancy Messimer Byrne and husband Joe of Corpus Christi and Amy Messimer Grobe and husband John of Moultrie, Ga.; two nephews, James Knight of Beeville and Mike Knight and wife Katie of Mineral; three great-nieces, Katie Byrne, Amanda Grobe and Jenny Knight; one great-nephew, Gradyn Grobe; ranch foreman Jesus Castillo Ramirez of Silao; and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy, with Dr. Jack Green officiating. Interment will be in Beeville’s Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sid Malone, Tom Keller, Ted Staples, David Chesnutt, Bimbo Champagne, Adam Coronado and Jack Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Rhonda Chesnutt, Mary Frances Keller, John Lansford, John Tatton, Joe Fern, Glenn Kilppenstein, J.P. Izez and Zeb Smith.
The family will receive friends today (Wednesday) from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Eckols Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Texas Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, Texas 78104.

Loya
Ernest Loya, 63, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Rosary was recited Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Mr. Loya was born in Beeville on Dec. 4, 1938, to Francisco and Dora (Treviño) Loya. He served in the U.S. Marines. He married Connie Ramirez in Beeville on July 17, 1968. He was a retired refinery worker and a painter. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Mr. Loya was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Loya of Beeville; three sons, Johnny, Ernest Jr. and Gabriel Loya, all of Beeville; one daughter, Roxanne Loya of Beeville; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Adolfo and Frank Loya, both of Beeville; and two sisters, Elodia Zarco of Houston and Virginia Granado of Edinburg.

Cindy A. Martin, 51, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in San Antonio’s Methodist Hospital.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Beeville Memorial Park.
Mrs. Martin was born in Beeville on Oct. 21, 1950, to Paul and Marie Gilbert. She married David Martin on June 6, 1980, in Awahnee, Calif. She resided in Beeville and was a housewife and a member of the Pentecostal church. She loved to attend yard sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, David Martin Jr.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, David Martin of Beeville; two daughters, Debbie Arruda of Hayward, Calif., and Cindy A. Martin of Beeville; four sisters, Maxine Harris of Beeville, Mary Stanley of Florida, Pat Walton of Maxwell, Calif., and Lucille Nelson of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Dale Gilbert of Fresno, Calif., and Charles Gilbert of Virginia; and four grandchildren.

Anthony Carl Padron, 49, died Friday, July 5, 2002.

Mr. Padron was born in Corpus Christi on Oct. 7, 1952, to Antonio Padron and Maria (Rodriguez) Garcia. He was a self-employed carpenter and a Catholic.
Mr. Padron is survived by his daughter, Lisa Williams of California; one son, John Gabriel Padron of Beeville; his parents, Antonio Padron of Corpus Christi and Maria (Ray) Garcia of Normanna; two brothers, John Michael (Patricia) Padron of Corpus Christi and Red (Gracie) Padron of Normanna; three sisters, Eloise (Jesse) Guerra of Utah, Julie Landa of Beeville and Mary Jane Zipagah of Corpus Christi; and three grandchildren.

Bauman
Bartley Cornett Bauman Jr., 70, died Friday, May 30, 2003 in Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services took place Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the same location with the Rev. Samuel Ingram officiating. Special music included “Amazing Grace.” Burial followed in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.
Mr. Bauman was born on Nov. 3, 1932, in Corpus Christi, to Bartley Cornett Sr. and Hulda (Hennig) Bauman. He married Joyce Knioum on Oct. 3, 1953, in Corpus Christi. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was an asbestos worker. He resided in Papalote and was a Baptist. He also belonged to Masonic Lodge #1337 and the Asbestos Workers Union.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Knioum Bauman of Papalote; a daughter, Patricia Wallek and husband Kenneth of Olmos; two grandchildren, Dustin Wallek of Olmos and Cheryl and husband Al Kennedy Jr. of Germany; four sisters and two brothers.
Crain
Derrel Leon Crain, 66, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003.
Visitation was held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services followed that day at 2 p.m. at the same location. Special music included “Old Rugged Cross,” “Whispering Hope,” and “Amazing Grace.” Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Cole Hooper, Howell Adkison and Don Pryor.
Mr. Crain was born on Feb. 14, 1937, in Gordon, to Dorsey and Willie (McAlister) Crain. He served in the U.S. Army and was a self-employed truck driver. He married Ona Mae Bilderback Crain on July 27, 1961, in Andrews. His wife preceded him in death in 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include a son, Mark Crain of Beeville; a daughter, Shelley Crain of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Ann Crain Hooper of Center and Dolores Crain Pryor and husband Don of Andrews; a grandchild, Brianna Mae Crain of Portland; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Luther Hall, 72, of Conway, Pa. died Monday, June 2, 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Matsook Hall; his children, Charles Martin (Dale) Hall, Eugene (Toni) Hall and Danette Vasquez; his siblings, Leo (Mardell) Hall and Evie (James) Staples; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Hall willed his body for medical studies to the Humanity Gifts Registry. There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, Conway, Pa.
