Quinn
Ellis M. Quinn Jr., 80, of Liberty died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, after a brief illness.
A native of Beeville, Mr. Quinn was born to Zatella (Faupel) and Ellis M. Quinn Sr. in 1922. After high school, he attended Schriener military Institute until his National Guard unit was activated in 1940.
A combat veteran in World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Quinn completed his military career as a major. He served with the 4th Infantry Division on D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in combat. During the Korean War, Mr. Quinn commanded a Korean Artillery Company supporting combat infantry.
Mr. Quinn graduated from the University of  Texas in 1949, after marrying Mignette Moody in 1948. Together the Quinns raised three sons, Pat, Mike and Brian. The Quinns celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998. Mrs. Quinn preceded her husband in death by one-and-a-half years.
He is survived by three sons, Pat, Mike and Brian; one daughter-in-law, Bev; two nieces, Kittie and Linda; four grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Katie and Emily; and one sister-in-law, Scottie.
Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Allison Funeral Service chapel in Liberty with the Rev. Jerry  Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Fairlawn Memorial Park in Liberty.

Fenner
John “Jack” S. Fenner III, 54, died of a sudden illness on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002.
Mr. Fenner was a former resident of Beeville and had owned and operated a business here. At the time of his death he was living in Corpus Christi. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a toolpusher in the oil field business.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Stevens of Dublin, Ga.; a son, John Fenner IV of Bryan; a sister, Lindsey Marschall of Fredericksburg; a brother, Larry Nevels of Fredericksburg; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission in Corpus Christi.
Arrangements were handled through Guardian Cremation and Funeral Services.

Garza
Ysidro “Y” Garza, 56, of Goliad died on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002.
He was born in Beeville on March 6, 1946, to Cirildo Sr. and Isabel Garza. He was a ranch hand and a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include his parents, his wife, Frances Garza of Goliad; three daughters, Michelle Mascorro of Refugio and Monica and Christy Garza, both of Goliad; four sisters, Lilia Garcia of Goliad, Paula and Rosa Gomez, both of Beeville, and Alicia Zepeda of Inez; four brothers, Ernesto Garza of Refugio, Cirildo Garza Jr. and Ruben Garza, both of Beeville, and Richard Garza of Goliad; and four grandchildren.
A rosary was held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goliad. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at that same location at 10 a.m., with Father Ralph Baidoo officiating. Burial followed in Blanconia Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled through Colonial Funeral Home, Goliad.

Gonzales
Santos Moreno Gonzales Sr., 62, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002.
He was born on April 22, 1940, in Pettus to Manuel Sr. and Elena (Moreno) Gonzales. He married Dora Yanez on Oct. 14, 1957, in Woodsboro. He resided in Beeville and was a retired truck driver. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Mr. Gonzales was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Gonzales Sr. and Elena Gonzales and a sister, Maria Louisa Rodriguez.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Gonzales of Beeville; two daughters, Becky (Rudy) Ybarra of Beeville and Maria (Will) Dybala of Port Lavaca; four sons, John (Miyong) Gonzales of Seoul, South Korea, Santos (Diana) Gonzales Jr. of Victoria, Jose (Elizabeth) Gonzales of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Jerry Gonzales of Beeville; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Manuel (Olivia) Gonzales of Beeville and Mario (Erlinda) Gonzales of Hawly; six sisters, Margarita Garcia of Beeville, Chris Reese of  Oklahoma City, Okla., Patricia (Johnny) Almaguer and Delia Gonzales, both of Abilene, Ysabel (Steve) Floyd of Savannah, Ga., and Martina Gonzales of Willow Spring, N.C.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. A rosary was recited that evening at 7:30. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s. Burial followed in the Pettus Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Arriola, Raul, Robert and Rafael Lopez, Chris Flores and Jesse Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers were Raul Arriola and Manuel Gonzales Jr.

Flores
Elena Gonzales Flores, 57, of Corpus Christi died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003.
She was a retired LVN and a member of House of Prayer Church.
A prayer service was held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at House of Prayer Church. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the same location. Burial followed in the Lagarto Cemetery in Lagarto.
Mrs. Flores is survived by her five daughters, Wanda Perez, Roberta Flores, Jessica Alaniz and Linda Sifuentes, all of Corpus Christi, and JoAnn Vasquez of Kingsville; her mother, Julia Gonzales of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Susan Sylva of Beeville, Angelita Garcia of Alice and Janie Gonzales of Corpus Christi; her brother, Lupe Gonzales of Orange Grove; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled through Guardian Cremation and Funeral Service, Corpus Christi.

Nye
Nina Elizabeth Nye, 79, of Corpus Christi died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003.
She was born on March 17, 1923, in Beeville to Fred and Nina (Tollett) Hobrecht. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Emanon Study Club, Women’s Prayer Group, Journey to Damascus and was a Christus Spohn Hospital auxiliary member and Eucharistic volunteer.
She is survived by her husband, Judge Paul W. Nye of Corpus Christi; six children, Paul W. “Bill” (Barbara) Nye II, Sally (Dick) Grant, Richard (Debbie) Grant, Michael (Naomi) Nye, Patrick A. (Julie) Nye and Thomas F. (Pamela) Nye; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A rosary was to be recited Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities Inc., 1322 Comanche, Corpus Christi, TX 78401.
Arrangements were handled through Seaside Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.

Ramon
Estefana Medina Ramon, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Ramon Ranch Cemetery.
Mrs. Ramon was born in Bee County on Nov. 28, 1915, to Santos and Rafaela (Garcia) Medina. She married Ricardo Ramon on Oct. 13, 1938, in Beeville. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died on April 12, 1998; her parents; two brothers, Ramiro and Benito Medina; and two sisters, Carolina Rincon and Olivia Medina.
She is survived by her son, John Ramon; three grandchildren, Erika, Melissa and Farah Ramon; a daughter-in-law, Rose Ramon; and two sisters-in-law, Juanita and Maria Medina, all of Beeville.

Betts
Alee E. Betts, 71, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. at the same location, with the Rev. Bill Duke officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mrs. Betts was born in Haleyville, Ala., on March 10, 1933, to Louie and Nora (Ward) Mayfield. She married Nyal Dean Betts on March 21, 1960, in Memphis, Tenn. She was a Methodist and a housewife. She resided in Beeville.
Survivors include her son, James Kidd of Gautier, Miss.; three grandchildren, Christine McFarland of Sinton, Scotty Kidd of Odem and Noreddine (Smiley) Amara of Gautier, Miss.; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ivory Avery and Mary Joiner of Alabama.

Campbell
Paul Wesley Campbell, 70, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Beaumont.
Memorial services will be held today (Wednesday) at 5 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9170 in Beeville, with Perry Morris officiating. Mr. Campbell’s ashes will be scattered at sea, as per his wishes.
Mr. Campbell was a retired U.S. Navy chief petty officer. He was born in Walworth, N.Y., on Sept. 23, 1933, to Paul and Lucille (Gehm) Campbell. He was a former Beeville resident who had recently moved to Mauriceville to be near his daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Campbell Hernandez; two granddaughters, Miranda Terry and Crystal Meacham; and two great-grandsons, Cainan and Trent Terry, all of Mauriceville; two sisters, Pauline and Ruth Caplinger; a brother, Leonard Campbell, all of New York; and numerous family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 9170.

DeHoyos
Severino DeHoyos Jr., 59, of Goliad died Monday, March 15, 2004.
Services will be held Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home in Goliad at 10 a.m., with Pastor Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Cristo Rey Cemetery.
Mr. DeHoyos was born in Beeville on Jan. 7, 1945, to Severino Sr. and Reyes (Longoria) DeHoyos. He was self-employed as a mechanic. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Guadalupe Silvas DeHoyos of Goliad; four daughters, Norma DeHoyos of Big Spring and Ester, Reyes and Monica De Hoyos of Goliad; six sons, Richard DeHoyos of LaMesa, Kan., Severio DeHoyos III of Roma and Severino II, Jose, Roland and Mark DeHoyos of Goliad; six sisters, Jesusa Garcia and Rosa DeHoyos of Corpus Christi, Mary Elena Cano of Beeville, Flora and Alvina DeHoyos and Bobbie Gonzales of Houston and Theresa Bridge of Normanna; three brothers, Alejos DeHoyos of Floydada, Alcario DeHoyos of Beeville and Jessie DeHoyos of San Antonio; and 10 grandchildren.
Arrangement were handled through Colonial Funeral Home, Goliad.
