Almendarez
Max M. Almendarez of Corpus Christi died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at a hospital there.
He was born on May 29, 1909, in Skidmore. He lived there all of his life until 1984 when his wife, Dora, died, at which time he came to Corpus Christi to be with his family.
Mr. Almendarez was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore until his move to Corpus Christi at which time he joined St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dora Almendarez; his parents, Mariano and Refugia Almendarez; sister, Ida Del Bosque; and brothers, Benito and Carlos Almendarez.
He is survived by his children, Tony (Eliane) Almendarez of Goldsboro, N.C., Della (Jack) Swoboda, Lucy (John) Boyd of Corpus Christi and Bob (Kathy Jo) Almendarez of McAllen; grandchildren, Jacques (Terri) Almendarez of Beaufort, S.C., Brigitte (Frank) Gavas of Dover, Del., Jason (Suzanne) Swoboda of Austin, Jeffrey (Cristin) Swoboda of San Antonio, Thierry Almendarez of Greenville, N.C., and Kyle Almendarez of McAllen; great-grandchildren, Tony Almendarez and Eric Almendarez of Beaufort, S.C., David and Brandyn Blake of Dover, Del., Maya and Dane Swoboda of San Antonio and Jacob Swoboda of Austin; great-great-grandchildren, Ariah Almendarez of Beaufort, S.C.; brothers and sisters: Martin (Susie) Almendarez, Aurelio Almendarez, Lupe (Isabel) Almendarez of Skidmore, Porfirio (Emily) of Houston, Dora Gonzalez of Skidmore and Solia (Mardonio) of Houston.
Visitation was held at Seaside Funeral Home on Thursday with a rosary recited that same evening.
Funeral Mass was to be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Skidmore Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church Building Fund.
Arrangements were handled through Seaside Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.
Arrellano
Felix Arrellano, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004.
He was born in Skidmore on June 9, 1916, to Amado and Angelita (Garza) Arrellano.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Francisco Gonzales Jr., and a daughter, Gloria Briseno.
Mr. Arrellano enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a retired Beeville Independent School District employee, having served 17 years.
Survivors include his wife, Eva A. Arrellano of Beeville; two sons, Domingo (Maria) Gonzales of Beeville and Reyes (Victoria) Arrellano of Wharton; three daughters, Hope (Margarita) Garza and Margie (Abel Suniga) Vargas, both of Beeville, and Lucy (Feliciano) Garcia of Red Oak; two half-brothers, Seferino C. Garza of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jose Angel Garza of Odessa; 23 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
A prayer service was to be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at the same location with Julio Zuniga Sr. and Joe Richard Gomez officiating. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers will be Chris Garcia, Lee Roy Gonzales, Julio Salazar, Leonardo Briseno, Joseph Reyes Arrellano, Joe Louis Vargas, John Abel Suniga and his grandchildren.
Rivero
Gumersinda Rivero, 95, of Mathis died Aug. 27, 2004.
She is survived by one daughter, Miriam Snyder of Magnolia; a son, Regino Raul Armas of Mathis; nine grandchildren, Raulito and Benito Armas, both of Florida, Bruce Ferres of Fort Worth, Marcos and Nelson Ferres, both of Houston, Steven Ferres of San Antonio and Edward and George Armas and Carmen Ruth Whetzel, all of Houston.
The family received friends on Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home in Mathis, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. that day at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.
Arrangements were handled through Treviño Funeral Home, Mathis.
Staples
Brett Hunter Staples, infant son of Brady and Vanessa (Campbell) Staples of Georgetown, died Aug. 26, 2004.
Brady was born on May 20, 2004, and he was three months and six days old.
Survivors include his parents; his grandparents, Dexter and Maria Elkins of Dallas and Relda Staples of San Antonio; his great-grandparents, Will and Darlene Loughridge of Victoria, Tommy and Shirley Staples of Tuleta and Ampardo Garcia of Dallas; his aunt, Anna Rose Elkins of Dallas; and his uncles, Tyler and Jody Elkins of Dallas and Beau Staples of San Marcos.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tommy Staples Jr., and his great-grandfather, Juan Garcia.
A prayer service was held Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. at Eckols Chapel in Kenedy. Graveside services were held in the Choate Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday with the Rev. Walter Hill III officiating.

Pipkin
Mary Alice Hinderman Pipkin, 86, died March 9, 2002, in Glendale, Calif.
She was born in Beeville on Dec. 17, 1916, the first child of Lovest and Ida (Thompson) Hinderman.
While in her 20s, Mrs. Pipkin moved to Los Angeles, Calif. She resided and worked there until she moved to Glendale, Calif., a few years ago where she enjoyed the care of her niece, Yolanda McLeod Hall, and her niece’s husband, Bob Hall. Mrs. Pipkin’s niece, Kimberli McLeod Rivers, and her family were also a special part of her life, as was her nephew, Kenneth Dean Hinderman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Lovest, Calvin and Harold, and a sister, Beatrice.
Mrs. Pipkin is survived by her son and his wife, Sylviaus and June Pipkin of Los Angeles; her sisters, Nellie Jane McLeod of Dale City, Va., Gayola Adams of Chicago, Ill., and Ida Lytle of Alice; a granddaughter, Shema Pipkin of Los Angeles; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and other friends.
She will be interred at St. Rose Cemetery in Beeville.
Powers
Priscilla Garza Powers, 32, of George West died Friday, March 29, 2002.
Rosary was recited Wednesday at St. George Catholic Church in George West. The funeral Mass was celebrated at that same location Thursday, with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Burial followed in the Clegg Cemetery in Clegg.
Mrs. Powers was born May 10, 1969, to Jose Macario and Paula (Trejo) Garza. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a Catholic.
She is survived by her husband, David Powers of San Antonio; a daughter, Felicia Jo Powers of San Antonio; and a sister, Laura (Jaime) Ortiz of Corpus Christi.
Breaux
Ethel Breaux, 71, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Visitation was held Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held (today) Saturday at 4 p.m. at the same location with the Rev. Vernon Helgren officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Justin McGriff, Jason McGriff, James Pittman, Keith Siddon, Tommy Fox and Willie Moses. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne McGriff, James and Bill Siddon and Hollis Scott.
Mrs. Breaux was born to Samuel Leslie Moses and Lillie Wardrey Vickery Moses in Karnes County on Sept. 26, 1930. She married Buford Breaux on Feb. 12, 1951, in Louisiana. She was the retired owner of a welding supply store and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Mildred Siddon.
Mrs. Breaux is survived by her son, Terrence Lee Breaux and wife Cathy of Beeville; her daughter, Linda McCumber and husband Gene of Beeville; four grandchildren, Melissa Fox and husband Tommy, Ryan and Gregory Breaux and Megan McCumber; and several nieces and nephews.

Saenz
Estanislado “John” Saenz, 66, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel in Beeville. Prayer service was held that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location.
Graveside services were held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Saenz was born in Three Rivers on May 6, 1936, to Aniseto and San Juanita (Carreon) Saenz. He married Dora Navarro on Sept. 6, 1955, in George West. He resided in Beeville and was a rancher.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Navarro Saenz of Beeville; two daughters, Maria Magdalena Peña of Italy, Texas, and Rose Marie Saenz of Beeville; two sons, Edward Saenz of George West and Henry Saenz of Odem; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Santos Saenz, Esperanza Dominguez, Delores Rodriguez and Mary Alice Dominguez, all of Three Rivers, Consuelo Amaya of Houston, Felipa Hernandez of San Antonio and San Juana Aguilar of Florida; and five brothers, Fidencio and Jose Saenz, both of Oakville, Jesus and Alberto Saenz, both of Three Rivers, and Victor Saenz of Pleasanton.

Bates
Aline Bates, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Poteet.
Visitation was held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services took place Monday at 11 a.m. at the same location. Musical selections included “Amazing Grace,” “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Old Rugged Cross.” Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were John Bates, Paul Heard, Robin Hales, William Hales, Dean McMahan and Jim McMahan.
Mrs. Bates was born in McMahan on May 23, 1916, to John and Ellen (Jeffrey) McMahan. She resided in Beeville and was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, John Kircher and wife Ruth of Beeville, Will Bates and wife Mary Ann of Poteet and Jeff Bates of Victoria; six grandchildren, Debbi Heard, Roy Kircher, Megan Chandler, Josh Bates, Cassie Bates and Keri Bates; and three great-grandchildren, Mallory, Hillary and Campbell Heard.

DeSpain
Lorene A. DeSpain, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in a Beeville nursing home.
Mrs. DeSpain was born on Oct. 11, 1909, in Choate to John and Alice Brieden. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Freer and had been active in the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oran DeSpain Sr., in 1975, and by one sister and one brother.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond (Dorothy) DeSpain and Oran (Sarah) DeSpain Jr., all of Beeville; two sisters, Virginia Haner of Realitos and Georgia Gentry of Calallen; three brothers, Floyd Brieden of Camp Wood, Elmer Brieden of Realitos and Johnny Brieden of Brenham; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. Funeral services were conducted today (Wednesday) at the First Baptist Church in Freer at 10 a.m. Burial followed in the Greenhill Cemetery in Hebbronville.
