Edwards
Berniece Edwards, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, in a San Antonio retirement community.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1913, in Belmont, to the Rev. W.D. and Carrie Williamson. She married Thomas Arthur “Bud” Edwards in 1935.
Mrs. Edwards graduated from Mathis High School, West Morland Girl’s College and Southwest  Texas Teaching College in San Marcos, where she received her teaching certificate. She began her career in Martindale. She taught in Benham (located between Ray Point and Three Rivers) from 1935-36; in Sandia from 1936-38; in Pawnee from 1938-40 and 1942-46; in Pettus from 1947 to 1953; in Three Rivers from 1953-54 and retired from teaching in George West, where she taught from 1954 to 1978.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Ruthie E. Caron and Marilyn Gilmore; and a brother, Davis Donothan Williamson.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Kim Caron (Shawn) Keith of Flower Mound and Annette Caron (Jeff) Boeck, Brett and Bartt Caron, all of George West; a son, Arthur (Sandra) Edwards of San Antonio; a sister, D. Moll of Eastland, Md.; her great-grandchildren, Melissa and Kayla Mokry, Dillon Boeck and Brea Caron, all of George West, and Bailey and Landry Keith of Flower Mound.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eckols Chapel with the Rev. Mel Hazlewood officiating. Burial followed in the Pawnee Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary and Lacy Pogue, Tom Reagan, Larry Holm, Shawn Keith and Jeff Boeck.
Memorial contributions may be made to the George West First United Methodist Church.
Arrangements were handled through Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.

Godfrey
Lewis Lee Godfrey, 70, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline in Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held Monday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the same location. Burial followed in Skidmore’s Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Godfrey was born on April 6, 1932, in Stamford,  Jones County, to Lester Franklin and Sadie Bell (Thetford) Godfrey. He married Pauline Beard in Coleman on Dec. 17, 1955. He resided in Skidmore and was the retired owner of L&P Trucking (located in Cedar Park). He was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline B. Godfrey of Skidmore; three sons, Lewis Godfrey Jr. of Fort Worth, Mark Godfrey of Georgetown and Terry Godfrey of Joshua Tree,  Calif.; a brother, Lester Godfrey and wife LaVerne of Cedar Park; six grandchildren, Craig O’Dell of Dallas, David O’Dell of Fort Worth, Kelly and Brandon Godfrey of Georgetown and Aubrey and Joel Godfrey of Joshua Tree,  Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Goebel
Charles Larry Goebel, 70, of Three Rivers died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003.
A prayer service was held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Three Rivers, with the Rev. John Alsbrooks officiating. Special music included “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Luke Goebel, Harlyn Goebel, Randall Rosebrock, Randy Maupin, Eugene Woelfel, Quintus Woelfel, Warren Woelfel, Lance Callaway and Booky Goebel. Honorary pallbearers were George Piepras, Bobby Schneider, Hershal Caron, Dewey Bellows, Alvin Wernli, Les Wernli, Leroy Kaatz, Justin Meeks, Jerry Ulke, Phillip Ballard, Dickie Brown, Kevin Hennig, Martin Deuizk, Blanton Robertson, Barry Bridges and  Taylor Ballard.
Mr. Goebel was born to Sophia (Wieding) and Otto Goebel Sr. in Oakville on Aug. 14, 1932. He married Darlene Woelfel on Sept. 23, 1953, in Live Oak County. He served in the U.S. Army, was a rancher and member of First United Methodist Church. He was actively involved as a 4-H leader and honorary charter former member of FFA. He served on the El Oso Water Board, was a former member of BBU and the Ray Point Domino Club.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Darlene Goebel of Three Rivers; three sons, Gregg (Melissa) Goebel of Three Rivers, Gordon Goebel of The Woodlands and Jeffery Goebel of Three Rivers; two granddaughters, Ashley Blair Goebel and Andrea Kay Goebel; one brother, Otto (Margaret) Goebel Jr. of Three Rivers; two sisters, Marilyn (Terrel) Rosebrock and Frances (Calvin) Hedtke, all of Three Rivers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Golmon
Eula Odell Golmon, 92, died at her home in Van on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003.
Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Van, with the Rev. Mike Calhoun and James Day officiating. Tony Golmon, her grandson, was organist. Burial followed in Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Steve Davies, Kevin Dembroski, Ralph D’Herde, Jeff Golmon and Austin and David Horton.
Mrs. Golmon was born on Sept. 10, 1910, in Rule to Oscar David and Lila Mae (Sloan) Sanders. She had lived in the Van area for 72 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Herman Golmon, in 1975, as well as two half-sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Bill D. Golmon and wife Reneatha of Beeville and Lance Eugene Golmon and wife LaJoyce of Dallas; a daughter, Maxie Allene Choukrane and husband Henri of Asheville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled through Hilliard Funeral Home, Van.

Cramer
Earl James “E.J.” Cramer, 74, died Thursday, May 15, 2003.
Visitation will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel, followed by rosary there at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Beeville. Organist will be Sister Julie Macaraeg. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore.
Pallbearers will be Steve Puentes, Steve Bohac, Steve Sugarek, David Torres, Rick Bohac and Allen Bohac.
Mr. Cramer was born to Dorothy Helen Anderson and Earl Dewey Cramer in Bagley, Iowa, on Nov. 17, 1928. After 12 years of school, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He married Dorothy Stratmann on Oct. 2, 1956, in Mission and they resided in Skidmore. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad as a clerk/operator. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his spouse, Dorothy Cramer of Skidmore; four sons, Robert James Cramer and wife Connie of Bayside, Joseph Gerald Cramer and John Edward Cramer, both of Skidmore, and Paul David Cramer and wife Cara of Port Lavaca; two daughters, Mary Helen Swinky and husband Edward of Mathis and Diane Elizabeth Cramer of Skidmore; two sisters, Mary Cottone and husband Nino of Irwin, Pa., and Linda Legere of Sarasota, Fla., and two grandchildren, Brittany and Lauren Cramer.

Handy
Mary Ann Hicks Handy, 73, died Thursday, May 15, 2003.
Visitation was scheduled for Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at that location with the Rev. David Mundine officiating. Special music will include “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” with organist Mary Ellen Thoms and soloist Catherine Mylnar. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Troy Berthold, Clyde Evons, James Blackburn, Dodson Sullivan Jr., David Huser, Richard Rudeloff Jr., Ed Turner and Jimmy Porter.
Mrs. Handy was born to Effa Mae Sutton and J.M. Hicks in Stockdale on April 11, 1930. She attended college for two years and was married on May 14, 1950, to R.E. Handy in Beeville. They resided in Beeville and she was a housewife. She was a member of the United Methodist church, Junior Service League, Beeville Art Guild and a Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by her husband, R. Ellsworth Handy of Beeville; one daughter, Melissa Cherry of Houston; two sons, Wesley Handy of Corpus Christi and Robert Handy of Skidmore; four grandchildren, Mary Catherine, Bob, Will and Jennifer Handy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patsy Rudeloff and Lillian Marie Savage.

Nelson
Sara Elizabeth Nelson, 68, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at her residence in Mathis.
Mrs. Nelson was born April 21, 1935, in Mathis and had lived in Mathis most of her life. She was co-owner of Nelco Distributing Co. and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a son, Clay Nelson, and a brother, Basset B. Wright Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John R. Nelson Jr. of Mathis; one daughter, Lisa (Tim) O’Brien of Mathis; one sister, Virginia (Albert) Kastner of Sinton; one brother, Ronnie Wright of West Sinton; and three grandchildren, Colby, Reid and Courtney O’Brien, all of Mathis.
Funeral services were to be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Dobie Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Eads officiating. Interment will follow in Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis. Pallbearers were to be Gipper Nelson, Shane Nelson, Robert Tennil, Burt Thorne, David Kastner and Dennis Kastner.

Carter
James B. “Rip” Carter, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in Cuero.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at the same location. Burial will follow in Cuero’s Hillside Cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born in Anson on Feb. 16, 1927, to Steven Jessie and Reta (Wise) Carter. He was a hot shot driver for Petro Chemical Co. He served in the Army during World War II and was retired from Air Equipment Rental.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Hanson Carter; his parents; a grandson, Daniel Ellis; a granddaughter, Angel Nicole Ellis; and a brother, Charles Carter.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Ellis of LaSalle and Elaine Carter of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, James Boyd Carter of Arneckeville and Frank Carter of Crosby; three sisters, Sue Brzozowski of Beeville, Wanda Rathburne of New Braunfels and Maurine Hatcher of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, Sam Carter of Alice; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
Funeral arrangements were handled through Freund Funeral Home, Cuero.

Phillips
Clinton Gray Phillips, 29, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, in Breaux Bridge, La.
Memorial services were held Friday at Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette, La. Visitation was observed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a eulogy at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Phillips was the son of Claude Phillips II and Nona Sue McKinney. He was a native of Lafayette. He was employed by Greene’s Pressure Testing and Rental, Inc. at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Phillips II, grandmother, Arah Phillips, and great-grandmother, Leala Watson.
Survivors include his mother, Nona Sue McKinney of Beeville; his maternal grandparents, John and Nona Griffing of Beeville; his fiancé, Diedre McQuaig, USN Japan; six sisters, Shea Sieferman, Maia Bourdoumis and Leigh Orgeron, all of Lafayette, Sherry Cochran, Lynette Parr and Carolyn Palmer, all of Houston; two brothers, Claude C. Phillips III of Houston and Larry Phillips; seven nieces; and three nephews.
Funeral arrangments were handled through Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette.
