CHRISTINE MARIE "MILLIE" McKINNEY

She passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Kindred Hospital in  Oklahoma City, Okla., at the age of 75 years and 8 days.

A descendant of a  Texas pioneer family and proud Apache heritage, Millie spent her childhood in the  Texas Hill Country before moving to Yuma, Ariz. There she quickly grew into young adulthood with the desert world spread before her door. As if written by fate, Mrs. McKinney met her future in the closing days of World War II, when she found her young airman from  Oklahoma, who brought his young desert rose to the green hills of Southern  Oklahoma to be his bride. She married H.W. McKinney Jr. on May 25, 1945, in Ardmore, Okla., and they made their home in Love County for the next 57 years.

Once transplanted, this desert rose flourished as she and H.W. began their life together on their ranch. Soon children blessed this union as they gave birth to eight children, six of whom survive, including Jennifer Fenn, Randy McKinney, Joe McKinney, and Tom McKinney, all of Marietta, Okla., Pam Thompson of Midwest City, Okla., and Carolyn Gates of Tulsa, Okla.; and six spouses of these children. All of Millie's five grandsons, eight granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren survive here, along with many loved nieces, nephews, and dear friends too numerous to name.

Millie's years on her beloved land were filled with tending crops and herds... the days always full of babies. Her love for nature reflected best in the compassion she felt for her horses and pets. This, along with her dedication to family, made her life a testimony to one well-lived. Truly this desert rose bloomed and will again. She was a member of Marietta's First Baptist Church. Millie was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son and an infant daughter.

McKinney Jr. of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Janeice McKinney of Marietta, Okla., Joe and Theresa McKinney of Marietta, Okla., and Tom and Barbara McKinney of Marietta, Okla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Gary Fenn of Marietta, Okla., Pam and Pat Thompson of Midwest City, Okla., and Carolyn and Michael Gates of Tulsa, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces, nephews, and dear friends too numerous to name.
