Funeral services for Lena Mae Landry, 87, of Brazoria, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas.
Mrs. Landry passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003, at her residence.
Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Palms Funeral Home.
Lena was born in Eagle Lake, Texas on September 15, 1915 to Everett and Martha McCullen Wright. She resided in Angleton from 1933 to 1975, at which time she moved to Brazoria, Texas.
Her parents; and husband, Francis Landry, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her three daughters, Frances & B.O. Pierce of Angleton; Jacqueline & Joseph Daniel of Brazoria and Stephanie Karen Landry & John Foad of West Columbia; five grandchildren, Belinda Gaines, B.O. Pierce, Jr., Jennifer Jack, Ross Robbins and Erick Daniel; and three great-grandchildren.

MARY LOUISE JOHNSON
Mary Louise Johnson, 73, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Willow Drive Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas, with Pastor Scott McKay officiating. There will also be services by Lake Jackson Eastern Star #1009, while at the church.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson, Texas.
She was born December 4, 1929, in Brokenbow, Oklahoma and grew up in Arkansas. Mary moved to Texas in 1959, then to Lake Jackson in 1961.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bob I. Johnson of Lake Jackson; son, Bob Ed Johnson & wife Debbie of Lake Jackson; daughter, Margie Tidwell of Albany; grandchildren, Jared and Jamie Johnson of Lake Jackson and Joe and Mary Catherine Tidwell of Albany; brother, James Holmes & wife Wanda of Conroe; numerous nephews, nieces and sisters-in-law; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward B. & Marjorie E. Holmes; brothers, John P. Holmes and Billy H. Holmes; and her oldest grandson, Sam Tidwell, in 1998.
Mary retired from Texas Dow Employees Credit Union, after 15 years of service. Mary was an active member of the Auxiliary of Brazosport Memorial Hospital, where she wrote the “Pink Link” newsletter and was a past president of the Auxiliary.
She was also active in the Eastern Star and a Past Matron. She had a Grand Chapter Appointment. She was a past president of The Angleton Social Order of the Beauceant and was also active in Galveston Daughters of the Nile, where she was elected Princess Tirzah. She was a board member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was a member of Willow Drive Baptist Church and secretary of the Helping Hands Committee.
Pallbearers will be Jared Johnson, Joe Tidwell, Jim Holmes, Johnny Holmes, Buddy Holmes and Kelly Holmes.

O.B. SIMMONS
O.B. Simmons, born November 12, 1927, in De Ridder, Louisiana, died after a long battle with cancer, Thursday, March 20, 2003, in Lake Jackson, Texas, at the age of 75 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Joy Simmons.
He is survived by his two sons, Tony Simmons of Houston and O.B. & wife June Simmons of Lake Jackson; daughter, Teri Pirtle of Houston; two grandsons, Darrin & wife Wendy Pirtle of Lake Jackson and Troy Simmons; one granddaughter, Amy Tasto of Lake Jackson; and one great-granddaughter, Joy Pirtle.
O.B. and his wife moved to the Brazosport area in 1950, where he retired from The Dow Chemical Co. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a father figure in the neighborhood, as his children were growing up. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Helping Hands & Hearts Hospice, 418 Plantation Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas.
The family will be receiving visitors from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2003, at his residence.
ANNETTE ELLIS
Annette Ellis, 102, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 in Sweeny, Texas.
She was born in Streetman, Texas on Sunday, September 2, 1900.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sweeny, Sweeny Civic Club, Home Demonstration Club and the Kitchen Band..
Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Dan T. & Peggy Ellis of Sweeny; daughter-in-law, Carrie Vee Ellis of Friendswood; grandchildren, Dannette Boyd & husband Monty of Sweeny, Kim Miller & husband Stephen of West Columbia, Cindy Prescott of Friendswood, Mike Ellis & wife Lori of Waco, David Ellis of Houston; and great-grandchildren Austin Boyd, Shelby Miller, Kristina Davidson and Shane Ellis.
She was preceded in death by parents, A.T. & Eliza Jane McGilvary; husband, W.C. (China) Ellis; and son, Ernie E. Ellis.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2003 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia
The funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Sweeny on Monday, March 24, 2003 at 9 a.m., with Rev. Alex Lupo and Roy Dittfurth officiating.
Pallbearers will be I.J. Brown, Frank Burttschell, Leo Finley, Bobby Nairn, Bill Surber and Bill Tillman.
Interment will be at Birdsong Cemetery on Monday, March 24, 2003 at 4 p.m. in Streetman, Texas.

MARGARITO CHAVEZ
Funeral services for Margarito Chavez, 66, of Freeport, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson, Texas, with Pastor Frank Moreno officiating.
Burial will be in Angleton Cemetery.
He passed away Friday, March 21, 2003, in Galveston, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Maria A. Chavez; sons, Margarito, Edmundo and Sergio; daughters, Martha, Lorena, Anabell and Maribell; and 16 grandchildren.

BERNIECE AGNES GARRISON
Berniece Agnes Garrison, 89, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003.
She was born August 19, 1913 in Duluth, Minnesota, and in 1938, moved to Freeport, Texas, with her parents.
He father was the General Superintendent for the Austin Company, which was responsible for building early phases of Dow Chemical, Texas Division. She began working as a secretary at Dow and eventually met and married Robert Edward Garrison, who preceded her in death, in 1971.
In 1979, she married Earl M. Futch, a long time resident of Jones Creek, Texas, who passed away in 1981. She remained in the Brazosport area until 2001, when she moved to Chicago to be near her daughter, Mary Elaine Barnett.
Berniece was highly involved in church activities, most recently most recently Chapelwood United Methodist. During her adult life, she dedicated her considerable skills to raising her children and contributing her musical talents to the church choir. She was involved as a Cub Scout leader for each of her sons, as well as being both a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Additionally, she loved to dance, swim daily (even in her 89th year), and continued to mow her own lawn when she was well into her 70’s.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert Edward II & Patricia Anne Garrison, Brian William & Helen Ruth Garrison, Bruce George Garrison, and Mary Elaine & Phillip Wayne Barnett; her grandchildren, Melanie Denise Weaver, Claire Elizabeth Young, Patricia Anne Garrison, Paige Allison Garrison, Robert Lee Garrison, Jill Anne Harris, Kevin Ross Barnett, Collin Troy Barnett; and by her great-grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Weaver and Garrison Mitchell Weaver.
She is also survived by her step-children, Katy Beth Schmidt, Clara Lou Schlegel and Ralph Earl Futch, along with their spouses and families.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Logan, Tommy Palmer, Victor Platt and the three grandsons.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2003, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Angleton Cemetery.

ANNA MARGUERITE WHITFIELD KNAPE
Anna Marguerite Whitfield Knape, age 74, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003.
She was born August 29, 1928 in Alvin, Texas.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert K. Knape; sons, Wayne Knape of Alvin & wife Shirley, and John Knape of League City & wife Annie; five grandchildren, Jay Knape of Columbus, Georgia & wife Beth, Melanie Harwell & husband Pat, Ken Knape of League City & wife Lisa, Amy and Guy Knape of Alvin; great-grandson, Michael Knape of Columbus, Georgia; expected great-grandson, Rylan Harwell of League City; and brother, Johnny Coleman of Chula Vista, California.
A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church of Friendswood, Texas, 111 East Heritage on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at 10 a.m.

OSSIE OLIVER MESKER
Mr. Ossie Oliver Mesker, 69, of Clute, TX, died Friday, March 21, 2003 in Lake Jackson, TX.
A native Texan, he was born July 16, 1933 to Eltra & Ossie Mesker in Corsicana, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. at an early age and served his country during the Korean War. After leaving the service he was employed by Coffield & Guthrie until 1955. He then moved his family to Dangerfield where he worked for Lone Star Steel as an electrician for 13 years. He served as a volunteer fire fighter and was fire chief for several years. He retired from Dow Chemical Company in 1994. He was active for the Brazosport Little League and High School baseball teams as an umpire.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Doris Mesker of Clute, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Tricia Mesker of Brazoria, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Mark & Claire Mesker of Cypress, TX; son, David Mesker of Vidor, TX; daughter, Susan Barnsheuer of Spring, TX; sisters, Wanda Jordan of Blooming Grove, TX; Mary Walt of Dallas; Caroline Mesker of Corsicana, TX; Brenda Mesker of Dallas and Ursa Lea; brothers, Toby Bain, David Mesker, Jesse Mesker and Charles Mesker; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brothers James Ellis Mesker, Jimmy Don Mesker and Harvey Monroe Mesker.
Visitation will be at Corley Funeral Home on Sunday, March 23, 2003 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Corley Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 24, 2003 at 2 p.m., with Bro. Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
