LOIS KLATTENHOFF MATTECK

Lois Klattenhoff Matteck, 68, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2003, at her home.

She moved to the area in 1956. Lois attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson,  Texas. She was a birder and flower lover, a former Board Member of His Love Counseling Services and a volunteer at both the San Bernard and Brazoria Wildlife Refuges. Lois was active all her life in the Lutheran Church, in many capacities: Sunday School Teacher, Church Council Member, Altar Guild, Lutheran Church Women and Bible School Teacher.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, C.W. Matteck of Lake Jackson; two children, Carla Schreiber & husband, Ernest, of Lake  Jackson and Steven Matteck & wife, Charista, of Lake Jackson; three grandchildren, Claire Schreiber and Riley and Eli Matteck; and two sisters, Annette Kennener of Port Lavaca and Naomi Peters & husband, Jack, of Georgetown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Nettie Klattenhoff; and her sister, Ida Marie Young.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson,  Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Steve Larsen officiating.

Interment will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Pfluegerville,  Texas, with the Rev. Tom Kesselring officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Riley and Eli Matteck.

The family requests memorials to: The Scholarship Fund for Preschool Ministry at St. Mark’s Lutheran, 501 Willow Drive, Lake Jackson,  Texas 77566, or to the Ida Pfluger and John H. Klattenhoff Scholarship in the Pfluger Educational Funds at  Texas Lutheran University Develop-ment Office, 1000 West Court Street, Seguin,  Texas 78155.

VIRGINIA ELIZABETH WILSON

Virginia Elizabeth Wilson, 77, of Clute,  Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 20, 2003.

She is preceded in death by her son, Anthony Wilson; daughter, Suzanne Wilson; grandson, Curtis Wilson; and sisters, Bertha Lake and Dymple Sanderford.

Survivors include her loving husband, Cecil Wilson; daughters, Coleen Wilson, Michelle Wilson; son, Jimmy Wilson; sisters, Loree Dagley, Sybil Sims, Kaly Farmer; grandchildren, Dean, Mark and Ashlee Wilson; Brett and Trevor Valigura; Jessamine Aleman, Amy Prochasjka and many other loving relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the Hospice Care Team for their loving care and support.

MILDRED CAPERTON ANSLEY

Mildred Caperton Ansley, 77, of Cameron,  Texas, died Saturday, September 20, 2003 in a Cameron nursing facility.

Graveside funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Oak Hill Cemetery pavilion with the Reverend James E. Lafferty officiating.

Family visitations were held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron,  Texas.

Mrs. Ansley, a homemaker, was born February 26, 1926, in Cameron to Pyrtle and Annie Elizabeth Mann Caperton. She married Tilmon David Ansley on November 22, 1949. She was a member of the Fist Baptist Church of Cameron.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tilmon David Ansley, in 1998.

Survivors include her sons, David Wayne Ansley of Denham Springs,  Louisiana; John Layne Ansley of Springfield,  Louisiana; Paul Michael Ansley of Friendswood; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ARNOLD A. (Mac) MACLEAN

Arnold A. (Mac) MacLean, 82, of Lake Jackson,  Texas passed away Monday, September 22, 2003, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson,  Texas, with the Reverend Charles Geller officiating.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mac moved to the Brazosport area in 1954. Mac was city manager of Lake  Jackson for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary F. Watson MacLean of Lake Jackson; two children, Steve MacLean & wife, Debbie, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Kathy Ragsdale & husband, Shane, of Weir; three grandchildren, Steve Ragsdale & wife, Casey; Shannon MacLean, Connor MacLean; one great-grandson, Lane Ragsdale; sister, Patricia Thorne & husband, Robert, of Peabody, Massachusetts.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred MacLean.

Family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 404 Azalea at Hwy. 332, Lake Jackson,  Texas 77566, The Lake  Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, #5 Oak Drive, Lake Jackson,  Texas 77566; or the Brazosport Health Foundation Inc., in care of the Brazosport Cancer Center Campaign, P.O. Box 90, Lake Jackson,  Texas 77566.

ALBERTHA  Jackson BARRETT

Albertha  Jackson Barrett, 97, of West Columbia, (Mound Creek Community)  Texas, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2003, at Sweeny Community Hospital.

Savas G. Cabarrubia, 92, of Angleton,  Texas, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Cypress  Woods Care Center in Angleton,  Texas.

ROSE ANN Parker GRAHAM

Rose Ann Parker Graham, 63, of Brazoria,  Texas passed away Monday, September 22, 2003.

ELIGAH "BLIB" O'NEAL

Memorial service for Eligah “Blib” O’neal will be from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003, at  Johnson Funeral Home on Calhoun and Griggs in Houston,  Texas.

Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2003 at the Veteran’s Cemetery.

Survivors include wife Bobbie O’neal of Houston; daughters Bobby Edwards of Freeport, Carolyn Scott of Bay City; son, Roland Star of Houston; sisters, Arianna Harrison of Cedar Lane, Inez  White of  Texas City, Flordine Lee of Houston, Amelia Woodard of Houston; aunt, Beatrice Woodard of Brazoria; niece, Ada Pierce Mitchell of Angleton; five grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Savas G. Cabarrubia

Savas G. Cabarrubia, 92, of Angleton,  Texas died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Cypress  Woods Care Center in Angleton,  Texas.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 25, 2003, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria.

A rosary will be recited at the funeral home from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2003, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1713 N. Tinsley in Angleton,  Texas with Father Jamie Abercrombie officiating.

Burial will follow at Angleton Cemetery.

He was a resident of Angleton since 1942. He worked as a carpenter and a rice truck driver. He was an avid pagan fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luisa & Trinidad Cabarrubia Sr.; four brothers, Trinidad Cabarrubia Jr., Loranzo Cabarrubia Sr., Carlos Cabarrubia, Hisabel Cabarrubia; one sister, Nena Cabarrubia; three nephews, Loranzo Cabarrubia Jr., Carlos Cabarrubia, Robert Cabarrubia; one niece, Francis Beaza; one great nephew, Jesse Cabarrubia.

He is survived by five nephews, Secundino Cabarrubia (Ann) of Liberty, Mississippi, Isabel “Jr” Cabarrubia (Connie), Joe Cabarrubia (Tina), Steve Cabarrubia, Manuel Cabarrubia (Ester), all of Angleton; eight nieces, Olivia Gaona (Mike), Angleton, Rosa Torrez of Houston, Lupe Ramos (Phelipe) of Alamo, Trina Herrera (Oscar), Julie Herrera (Armando), Louisa Herrera (Carlos) all of Donna; Benita Gomez, Naranja, Florida, Lala Lopez of Hessmer,  Louisiana; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Cabarrubia, Rudy Cabarrubia, Loranzo Cabarrubia III, Dave Gaona, Danny Gaona and Noel Beaza.

Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria,  Texas. 979-798-9113.

FRANCES CORBAN ALEXANDER

Graveside services for Frances Corban Alexander, 89, of Lone Star,  Texas, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2003, in the Gulf Prairie Cemetery in  Jones Creek,  Texas, with the Rev. Chris Volz officiating.

Mrs. Alexander was born Sunday, May 24, 1914, in Mt. Pleasant,  Texas and died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, in Longview,  Texas.

She graduated from Tyler High School and entered  Texas Women’s University in Denton, receiving her degree in 1936. She married K.C. Alexander one month later and they moved to Pasadena. After 8 years, they moved back to Tyler. She was a teacher and taught second grade for 33 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Freeport, where she served in many areas of the church. She was a member of the Brazosport Retired Teachers Association, chairman for The Hospitality Committee of Brazosport Hospital, and Hostess at the Museum of Natural Science.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burrell & Lillie Huffman Corban; and three sisters, Ruth, Nelda and Dorothy.

Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Earl C. & Billie Sue Alexander of Lone Star; two granddaughters, Jana Hayes & her husband, James, and Angie Allison, all of Lone Star; three great-grandchildren, James Loyd Haynes, Amber Sue Allison and Jamee Alexandra Haynes; along with several other relatives.

ERA GRIGGERS JACKSON

Era Griggers  Jackson passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson,  Texas. She was 93 years old.

She had been in Lake  Jackson and Richwood since 1980. Previously, she resided in Vernon and Wichita Falls,  Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, S.A. Griggers and Tandy R. Jackson; and her son-in-law, Ferman T. Ainsworth.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty G. Ainsworth of Lake Jackson; one grandson, F. T. “Tommy” Ainsworth Jr. & wife, Lea, of Galveston; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Ainsworth of Galveston and Thomas D. Ainsworth & wife, Jennifer, of Lake Jackson; one great-great-granddaughter, Kayla Ainsworth of Lake Jackson; and sister Gracie Hilbus & husband, Lee, of Wichita Falls.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson,  Texas.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 27, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Elder Conway Wood of Albuquerque, New Mexico, officiating.

Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park.

ALBERTHA  Jackson BARRETT

Albertha  Jackson Barrett, 97, of West Columbia, (Mound Creek Community)  Texas, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2003 at Sweeny Community Hospital as a result of a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 27, 2003, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, FM 1301 with the Reverend Wallace Johnson, officiating.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2003, at E. Viola & Son Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at  Johnson Cemetery in West Columbia, (Mound Creek Community),  Texas.

Survivors include her daughter, Virgie Barrett Fomby of West Columbia; sister, Beatrice Mitchell of Houston; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be Vernon Mack, Arther Jackson, Steve Williams, Edward Wilkes, Joe Williams and Filmore Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Fomby, Brock Bullard, Jordan Barrett, Theople Williams, Herman Fields, Jackie  Jackson and Otis Fields.

She was born on December 6, 1905. She was also a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church and member of Isaac Newton court of Heroines of Jericha No. 111.
